Shadow quotes by Ilsa J. Bick
#1. Why can't you like me?" he said, his voice breaking. His scent steamed then, hot and heady with a welter of contradictions: apples and fire and electric roil of those cold, black shadows. "Why can't you like me just a little?"
She would never know how she might have answered, because he never gave her the chance.
Instead, he kissed her. #Quote by Ilsa J. Bick
Shadow quotes by Lady Augusta Gregory
#2. And my desire,' he said, 'is a desire that is as long as a year; but it is love given to an echo, the spending of grief on a wave, a lonely fight with a shadow, that is what my love and my desire have been to me. #Quote by Lady Augusta Gregory
Shadow quotes by Pablo Neruda
#3. I do not love you as if you were salt-rose or topaz,
or the arrow of carnations the fire shoots off.
I love you as certain things are to be loved,
in secret, between the shadow and the soul.
I love you as the plant that never blooms,
but carries in itself the light of hidden flowers.
Thanks to your love a certain fragrance,
risen darkly from the earth, lives darkly in my body.
I love you without knowing how, or when, or from where,
I love you straightforwardly, without complexities or pride,
so I love you because I know no other way than this:
where "I" does not exist, nor "you,"
So close that your hand on my chest is my hand,
So close that your eyes close and I fall asleep. #Quote by Pablo Neruda
Shadow quotes by David Paul Kirkpatrick
#4. I love you, Shadow. I want you to go now," Theo said quiet-ly. "You can go, Shadow. Walk with me. C'mon, I'm just ahead of you. Come on, climb away from that old body of yours. Walk with me. Do you see me? I'm just ahead of you on the beach. See? You can now run fast 'cause you have all your legs, again. Can you feel them, boy? #Quote by David Paul Kirkpatrick
Shadow quotes by Sarah Cross
#5. You're safe with me, Mira. And I'm safe with you."

He kissed her again to prove it. And when the clock struck one - that lone, ominous tone hovering in the dark - they were still kissing. Her razor blade had snagged his shirt and nicked his chest, and they'd ended up lying in the grass, hidden inside a shadow, ignoring their names whenever someone called them. He traced her mouth again and again, like he still couldn't believe it was real.

There would always be a part of him she couldn't know. A secret place where his heartbreak was stored, where lost innocence and regret filled the air like smoke. She had no desire to open that door ... but she didn't know if that would change one day. If the key would tempt her, if a fairy would manipulate her or she would just be curious. But she had to believe she could be strong enough to resist. That what she wanted - what they both wanted - mattered more than the path that had been laid out for them.

She let her hand slip under his shirt to touch the heart mark on his back, and he brought her other hand to his lips, and kissed every finger he'd entrusted with the key. He was so much more than his curse, and she was so much more than the girl who could betray him.

Together ... they could be anything. #Quote by Sarah Cross
Shadow quotes by Linda Dillow
#6. Worry and anxiety give a small thing a big shadow, and this shadow creates problems, not just in the soul and spirit, but in the body. #Quote by Linda Dillow
Shadow quotes by Rajneesh
#7. The second thing: nobody has ever been able to drop the ego because ego is not a reality that you can drop; anything to be dropped at least has to be real, substantial. Ego is just a notion, an idea. You cannot drop it, you can only understand it. Can you drop your shadow? You can run as fast as you want but your shadow will run at the same speed, exactly the same speed ... #Quote by Rajneesh
Shadow quotes by Caitlin Kittredge
#8. My eye was caught by movement from behind the automaton. Just a flicker, but my heart clenched with surprise and fear, and I tapped Dean on the arm, pointing. "Something's over there."
He followed my finger, and we both saw the flicker of red on the unbroken gray brick of the foundry walls.
"Son of a bitch," Dean growled, jamming his hand in his pocket and pulling out his switchblade. "Hey!" he bellowed at the moving shadow. "Hey, you!"
"Dean …," I started, thinking that perhaps shouting at the figure wasn't the best idea.
"I see you!" Dean shouted. "No point in hiding."
"Dean, we don't know what it is," I whispered, worried that if he made a move, whoever or whatever lurked beyond the automaton would take it badly. Dean shook his head.
"Relax, princess. It's a kid." He advanced on the shadow. "Aren't you?"
"Up yours, mister!" the shadow shouted back. I pressed a hand over my mouth, both to stifle a laugh and from relief. To find another person in this wasteland was ten times more unexpected than finding a creature like the nightjars and ghouls that populated Lovecraft's underground.
"Say," Dean drawled, brows drawing together. "I know you, kid."
"I know your mother!" the kid retorted. "And she has some disappointing things to say about you. #Quote by Caitlin Kittredge
Shadow quotes by Sherrilyn Kenyon
#9. If you betray me, Leta ... Kill me. Be kind and don't let me live in the shadow of your cruelty. I can't take another blow like that. I'm not that strong. (Aiden) #Quote by Sherrilyn Kenyon
Shadow quotes by Gary Kemp
#10. For 24 hours a day, for 10 years, all I thought about was being in a band. That's all I did. I had no other social life. I don't want my life to be like that now. I've spent the past 10 years having a real life as well. But Spandau Ballet is such a difficult shadow to outrun. #Quote by Gary Kemp
Shadow quotes by Charlie Hasler
#11. When your mind is mainly in a dark place it is difficult not to think in shadow #Quote by Charlie Hasler
Shadow quotes by Socrates
#12. The comic and the tragic lie inseparably close, like light and shadow. #Quote by Socrates
Shadow quotes by C. G. Jung
#13. And just as the typical neurotic is unconscious of his shadow side, so the normal individual, like the neurotic, sees his shadow in his neighbour or in the man beyond the great divide. #Quote by C. G. Jung
Shadow quotes by Meg Hennessy
#14. Until we find Enio, I'm closer to you than your own shadow. #Quote by Meg Hennessy
Shadow quotes by Victoria Strauss
#15. There is an enormous shadow industry of scammers and amateurs who prey on aspiring writers, who divert people from the real publishing industry into this shadow world of vanity publishing and fee-charging agents. #Quote by Victoria Strauss
Shadow quotes by Ali Ibn Abi Talib
#16. The world is darkness; knowledge is light; but knowledge without truth is a mere shadow. #Quote by Ali Ibn Abi Talib
Shadow quotes by Lorrie Moore
#17. Pulling through is what people do around here. There is a kind of bravery in their lives that isn't bravery at all. It is automatic, unflinching, a mix of man and machine, consuming and unquestionable obligation meeting illness move for move in a giant even-steven game of chess – an unending round of something that looks like shadowboxing, though between love and death, which is the shadow? "Everyone admires us for our courage," says one man. "They have no idea what they're talking about."

"Courage requires options," the man adds.

"There are options," says a woman with a thick suede headband. "You could give up. You could fall apart."

"No you can't. Nobody does. I've never seen it," says the man. "Well, not really fall apart. #Quote by Lorrie Moore
Shadow quotes by Gemma Files
#18. Being a ghost is like being invisible, so being invisible must be like being a ghost. Like being inside the shadow, always blundering towards people with your hands out, angry that can't see to comfort you. #Quote by Gemma Files
Shadow quotes by Iris Murdoch
#19. Today there is a pleasant very light haze over the whole sky, and the sea has a misleadingly docile silvered look, as if the substantial wavelets were determined to stroke the rocks as hard as they could without showing any trace of foam. It is a compact radiant complacent sort of sea, very beautiful. There ought to be seals, the waves themselves are almost seals today, but still I scan the water in vain with my long-distance glasses. Enormous yellow-beaked gulls perch on the rocks and stare at me with brilliant glass eyes. A shadow-cormorant skims the glycerine sea. The rocks are thronged with butterflies. The temperature remains high. I wash my clothes and dry them on the lawn. I have been swimming every day
and feel very fit and salty. Still no move from Lizzie, but I am not worried. I feel happy in my silence. If the gods have some treat in store for Lizzie and me, good. If not, also good. I feel innocent and free. Perhaps it is all that swimming. #Quote by Iris Murdoch
Shadow quotes by Isabel Wilkerson
#20. I discovered, while working on The Warmth of Other Suns, that I was not writing about geography and relocation, but about the American caste system, an artificial hierarchy in which most everything that you could and could not do was based upon what you looked like and that manifested itself north and south. I had been writing about a stigmatized people, six million of them, who were seeking freedom from the caste system in the South, only to discover that the hierarchy followed them wherever they went, much in the way that the shadow of caste, I would soon discover, follows Indians in their own global diaspora. #Quote by Isabel Wilkerson
Shadow quotes by Peter F. Hamilton
#21. Alert> Five Chikoya approaching, open assault formation. Multiple target acquisition. Armed> Disruptor pulse. Maximum power rating. Sequential fire. U-shadow update: landing exit capsule behind Building-D. Armed> Neutron lasers. Maximum power rating. Sequential fire. U-shadow update: decoy capsules on collision vector. Mach eight. Accelerating. Shadow quotes by Amy Lowell
#22. The Wheel of the Sun"

I beg you
Hide your face from me.
Draw the tissue of your head-gear
Over your eyes.
For I am blinded by your beauty,
And my heart is strained,
And aches,
Before you.

In the street,
You spread a brightness where you walk,
And I see your lifting silks
And rejoice;
But I cannot look up to your face.
You melt my strength,
And set my knees to trembling.

Shadow yourself that I may love you,
For now it is too great a pain. #Quote by Amy Lowell
Shadow quotes by Philippa Gregory
#23. Wideacre faces due south and the sun shines all day on the yellow stone until it is warm and powdery to the touch. The sun travels from gable end to gable end so the front of the house is never in shadow. When I was a small child collecting petals in the rose garden, or loitering at the back of the house in the stable yard, it seemed that Wideacre was the very centre of the world with the sun defining our boundaries in the east at dawn, until it sank over our hills in the west, in the red and pink evening. #Quote by Philippa Gregory
Shadow quotes by Elise Kova
#24. Something very small can cast a large shadow when its close to the sun. #Quote by Elise Kova
Shadow quotes by M. Teresa Clayton
#25. The skeleton key unlocks the mind and swings open the door of imagination. A far better place than here A much safer place than there The quintessential somewhere The mystical nowhere The enigmatic anywhere My gift to you - the key to everywhere.
The mortal will find itself lost while the soul always knows the way it is grateful for the darkness and celebrates the day

I can give you peace my peace I give you... but I cannot be your savior or your god - I cannot be the light along your path - I can only give you the lamp and point the way.

The blind will see... the deaf will hear... but those who choose reason will never understand.

Woe to the ones who think they know the answers they will cease to ask the questions that may be their own salvation.

We possess the knowledge of the Universe from conception. Once born we are taught to forget.

If we cannot look out at our world and see our children's vision then we are truly blind we are unable to lead them to paradise.

"Even people who are in the dark search for their shadows. Shadows exist only if there is light. We will never find total darkness - not even in death... ...and we always cast a shadow no matter how overcast our skies become. You are never alone."

Shadow quotes by Sarah J. Maas
#26. She had awoken this morning and slipped the amethyst ring off her finger. It had felt liked a blessed release, a final shadow lifted from her heart. #Quote by Sarah J. Maas
Shadow quotes by Renee Ahdieh
#27. Broad-shouldered, with skin of the desert and eyes of silver and ash, he was the kind of boy who turned heads and never noticed. The faint shadow of hair that darkened his jaw served only to accentuate features hewn from stone by the hand of a master sculptor. #Quote by Renee Ahdieh
Shadow quotes by Sarah Chauncey Woolsey
#28. Now the last red ray is gone;
Now the twilight shadows hie. #Quote by Sarah Chauncey Woolsey
Shadow quotes by Michael Hibbard
#29. There is a darkened corridor, forgotten by the sun, shrouded in shadow and transgression. #Quote by Michael Hibbard
Shadow quotes by Brandon Sanderson
#30. You like lies?" Shallan asked. "Good lies," Pattern said. "That lie. Good lie." "What makes a lie good?" Shallan asked, taking careful notes, recording Pattern's exact words. "True lies." "Pattern, those two are opposites." "Hmmmm . . . Light makes shadow. Truth makes lies. Hmmmm. #Quote by Brandon Sanderson
Shadow quotes by Jim Butcher
#31. Though I walk through the valley of the shadow of trauma, I will fear no concussion. #Quote by Jim Butcher
Shadow quotes by Dorothy Dunnett
#32. My dear Gaultier,' said Lymond. 'It will send the Shadow of God into transports. I suppose I've seen objects more grisly before, but it doesn't spring to mind where.… Twenty-four-carat gold, Jerott. Look. And studded with rubies like fish-roes.'

'Yes. I think he'll be pleased,' said Georges Gaultier. For the first time satisfaction, animation and even cheerfulness rang in his voice. 'Sickening, isn't it? #Quote by Dorothy Dunnett
Shadow quotes by B.R. Ambedkar
#33. Under the rule of the Peshwas in the Maratha country,11 the Untouchable was not allowed to use the public streets if a Hindu was coming along, lest he should pollute the Hindu by his shadow. The Untouchable was required to have a black thread either on his wrist or around his neck, as a sign or a mark to prevent the Hindus from getting themselves polluted by his touch by mistake. In Poona, the capital of the Peshwa, the Untouchable was required to carry, strung from his waist, a broom to sweep away from behind himself the dust he trod on, lest a Hindu walking on the same dust should be polluted. In Poona, the Untouchable was required to carry an earthen pot hung around his neck wherever he went - for holding his spit, lest his spit falling on the earth should pollute a Hindu who might unknowingly happen to tread on it. #Quote by B.R. Ambedkar

#34. ACT5.15 Insomuch that they brought forth the sick into the streets, and laid them on beds and couches, that at the least the shadow of Peter passing by might overshadow some of them. #Quote by Anonymous
Shadow quotes by Nighat Hafiz
#35. World has become a source for disguised depression. Every happiness celebrated under the shadow of death and destruction leads to disastrous psychic pain. #Quote by Nighat Hafiz
Shadow quotes by Erin Hunter
#36. Because I'm a Thunderclan cat like you," she replied, ad darker shadow in the darkness of the tunnel. "My name is Hollyleaf #Quote by Erin Hunter
Shadow quotes by Leigh Bardugo
#37. The key to the Shadow Fold is finally within our grasp, and right now, I should be in the war room, hearing their report. I should be planning our trip north. But I'm not, am I?" My mind had shut down, given itself over to the pleasure coursing through me and the anticipation of where his next kiss would land. "Am I?" he repeated and he nipped at my neck. I gasped and shook my head, unable to think. He had me pushed up against the door now, his hips hard against mine. "The problem with wanting," he whispered, his mouth trailing along my jaw until it hovered over my lips, "is that it makes us weak." And then, at last, when I thought I couldn't bear it any longer, he brought his mouth down on mine. His #Quote by Leigh Bardugo
Shadow quotes by David Selby
#38. You know ... the wonderful thing about Dark Shadows, the thing about going and looking back at it. It was so sucsessful at creating its own world. #Quote by David Selby
Shadow quotes by Vaddey Ratner
#39. Perhaps it's natural for a father, for every parent, to see in his child all that's unspoiled and good. #Quote by Vaddey Ratner
Shadow quotes by Pablo Neruda
#40. I love you between shadow and soul. I love you as the plant that hasn't bloomed yet, and carries hidden within itself the light of flowers. I love you without knowing how, or when, or from where. Because of you, the dense fragrance that rises from the earth lives in my body, rioting with hunger for the eternity of our victorious kisses. #Quote by Pablo Neruda
Shadow quotes by Elizabeth Gaskell
#41. Let us go on and see little Susan, said Margaret, drawing her companion up a grassy road-way, leading under the shadow of a forest glade. With all my heart, though I have not an idea who little Susan may be. But I have a kindness for all Susans, for simple Susan's sake. #Quote by Elizabeth Gaskell
Shadow quotes by Ruth Bernhard
#42. My quest, through the magic of light and shadow, is to isolate, to simplify, and to give emphasis to form with the greatest clarity. #Quote by Ruth Bernhard
Shadow quotes by Richard Francis Burton
#43. How melancholy a thing is success. Whilst failure inspirits a man, attainment reads the sad prosy lesson that all our glories "Are shadows, not substantial things." Truly said the sayer, "disappointment is the salt of life" a salutary bitter which strengthens the mind for fresh exertion, and gives a double value to the prize. #Quote by Richard Francis Burton
Shadow quotes by William Dalrymple
#44. Across the broken apses and shattered naves of a hundred ruined Byzantine churches, the same smooth, cold, neo-classical faces of the saints and apostles stare down like a gallery of deaf mutes; and through this thundering silence the everyday reality of life in the Byzantine provinces remains persistently difficult to visualise. The sacred and aristocratic nature of Byzantine art means that we have very little idea of what the early Byzantine peasant or shopkeeper looked like; we have even less idea of what he thought, what he longed for, what he loved or what he hated.
Yet through the pages of The Spiritual Meadow one can come closer to the ordinary Byzantine than is possible through virtually any other single source.

Shadow quotes by Leonardo Da Vinci
#45. Shadow is the obstruction of light. Shadows appear to me to be of supreme importance in perspective, because, without them opaque and solid bodies will be ill defined; that which is contained within their outlines and their boundaries themselves will be ill-understood unless they are shown against a background of a different tone from themselves. #Quote by Leonardo Da Vinci
Shadow quotes by Lindy West
#46. Never mind the fact that coding sensitivity as a weakness is bizarre (what do you think this is-the Ministry of Magic under Voldemort's shadow government?), it's also simply out of step with reality. You can't do this job if you have an emotional hair trigger. Undersensitivity is practically a prerequisite. #Quote by Lindy West

Shadow quotes by Neil Gaiman
#48. Did that happen?" asked Shadow. "Did what happen, shit-for-brains?" asked Mr. Nancy. "The hall. The fire. Tiger balls. Riding the Carousel. #Quote by Neil Gaiman
Shadow quotes by Tim Weiner
#49. The spectacle of the United States Army chasing the unarmed veterans, their wives, and their children out of the shadow of the Capitol was a scene of American urban combat without parallel since the Civil War. #Quote by Tim Weiner
Shadow quotes by Tori Amos
#50. From in the shadow she calls. And in the shadow she finds a way, finds a way. And in the shadow she crawls, clutching her faded photograph. My image under her thumb. Yes with a message for my heart. She's been everybody else's girl maybe one day she'll be her own. #Quote by Tori Amos
Shadow quotes by Gwenn Wright
#51. For a moment she believed he had left, but as she shifted away from the wall she sensed him there beside the bed. He was very close.
Wretched curiosity!
But she would fight it and not look.
"Katherine," he whispered, his breath rolling in a warm wave across her cheek. A traitor tear spilled out, the humiliation was too much to contain. Gently, a finger dabbed the wetness from her skin. He said it again, softly, as though it pleased him just to say it, "Katherine."
"Viktor!" the accented voice bellowed from below. And then the shadow was gone.
Darkness overwhelmed her then and carried her away to a land of crows and mocking strangers. #Quote by Gwenn Wright
Shadow quotes by Cassandra Clare
#52. There is a coldness to the Clave, it is true. We are dust and shadows. But you are like the heroes of ancient times, like Achilles and Jason."
"Achilles was murdered with a poisoned
arrow, and Jason died alone, killed by his own rotting ship. Such is the fate of heroes; the Angel knows why anyone would want to be one. #Quote by Cassandra Clare
Shadow quotes by Jean Rhys
#53. She was a shadow, kept alive by a flame of hatred for somebody who had long ago forgotten all about her. #Quote by Jean Rhys
Shadow quotes by Simon Van Booy
#54. But those who seek only reassurance from life will never be more than tourists - seeing everything and trying to possess what can only be felt.
Beauty is the shadow of imperfection. #Quote by Simon Van Booy
Shadow quotes by Sherrilyn Kenyon
#55. We are Darkness. We are Shadow.
We are the Ruler of the Night.
We, alone, stand between mankind and those who would see mankind destroyed. We are the Guardian
The Soulless Keepers. Our souls were cast out so that we would not forewarn the Daimons we pursue. By the time they see us coming, it's too late.
The Daimons and Apollites know us. They fear us. We are death to all those who prey upon the humans. Neither Human, nor Apollite, we exist beyond the realm of the Living, beyond the realm of the Dead
We are the Dark-Hunters.
And we are Eternal #Quote by Sherrilyn Kenyon
Shadow quotes by Margaret Mitchell
#56. Scarlett, I don't know just when it was that the bleak realization came over me that my own private shadow show was over. Perhaps in the first five minutes at Bull Run when I saw the first man I killed drop to the ground. But I knew it was over and I could no longer be a spectator. No, I suddenly found myself on the curtain, an actor, posturing and making futile gestures. My little inner world was gone, invaded by people whose thoughts were not my thoughts, whose actions were as alien as a Hottentot's. They'd tramped through my world with slimy feet and there was no place left where I could take refuge when things became too bad to stand. When I was in prison, I thought: When the war is over, I can go back to the old life and the old dreams and watch the shadow show again. But, Scarlett, there's no going back. And this which is facing all of us now is worse than war and worse than prison - and, to me, worse than death.... So, you see, Scarlett, I'm being punished for being afraid. #Quote by Margaret Mitchell
Shadow quotes by Solomon Northup
#57. Strange as it may seem, within plain sight of this same house, looking down from its commanding height upon it, was the Capitol. The voices of patriotic representatives boasting of freedom and equality, and the rattling of the poor slave's chains, almost commingled. A slave pen within the very shadow of the Capitol! #Quote by Solomon Northup
Shadow quotes by DJ Shadow
#58. I realized that people don't quite understand what I do when I was the new kid on the block and a lot of Hollywood was offering me fairly cheesy projects. #Quote by DJ Shadow
Shadow quotes by Jennifer Arnett
#59. Given that media has become fast-paced, readers now want books that show the action and don't just tell you what is happening. Modern readers don't want three pages of descriptions of a farmhouse. They want to hear the door's creak quiet the chirping of crickets out in the cornfield, they want to feel the cool air drift through the house, then they want to see the shadow of a man, gun drawn, standing over the bed of his disloyal lover. #Quote by Jennifer Arnett
Shadow quotes by Joe Meno
#60. His face almost looked the way it did when he was a teenager, when there was the subtle expression of both confidence and mischief in his darkly handsome eyes. When I think of him now, though, I don't picture his face the way it is. What I see is from a memory, from a moment when he must have been eleven or twelve years old and we were both in our backyard and it was summertime and I was drawing in a coloring book and he was there in the green grass and he didn't know I was watching him. He was crawling around on all fours; he was practicing being a lion or a tiger or more probably a leopard and he was growling to himself, stalking the shadow of a bird, and he didn't see me staring at him and I think my mother was there, looking at us from an upstairs window, watching us both and gently smiling, and what I remember most is that all of us were happy then with who we were at that moment; at that moment, all of us were quietly happy. #Quote by Joe Meno
Shadow quotes by Moira Katson
#61. You, Catwin, no longer exist. You no longer have a fate of your own, a will of your own, or indeed a soul of your own. Henceforth, you and Miriel are to be as one, she the light, and you the shadow. You are to cease thinking of yourself as other from my niece - you are to be her shadow, as Temar is mine. You will go where she goes, you will watch instead of being watched, you will hear instead of being heard. Do you understand me? - Eral Celys, Duke of Voltur #Quote by Moira Katson
Shadow quotes by Claire

Shadow quotes by Elizabeth Gilbert
#65. How many people have I heard claim their children as the greatest accomplishment and comfort of their lives? It's the thing they can always lean on during a metaphysical crisis, or a moment of doubt about their relevancy - If I have done nothing else in this life, then at least I have raised my children well.

But what if, either by choice or by reluctant necessity, you end up not participating in this comforting cycle of family and continuity? What if you step out? Where do you sit at the reunion? How do you mark time's passage without the fear that you've just fritted away your time on earth without being relevant? You'll need to find another purpose, another measure by which to judge whether or not you have been a successful human being. I love children, but what if I don't have any? What kind of person does that make me?

Virginia Woolf wrote, "Across the broad continent of a woman's life falls the shadow of a sword." On one side of that sword, she said, there lies convention and tradition and order, where "all is correct." But on the other side of that sword, if you're crazy enough to cross it and choose a life that does not follow convention, "all is confusion. Nothing follows a regular course." Her argument was that the crossing of the shadow of that sword may bring a far more interesting existence to a woman, but you can bet it will also be more perilous. #Quote by Elizabeth Gilbert
Shadow quotes by John Locke
#66. The picture of a shadow is a positive thing. #Quote by John Locke
Shadow quotes by A. P. J. Abdul Kalam
#67. India should walk on her own shadow - we must have our own development model. #Quote by A. P. J. Abdul Kalam
Shadow quotes by Jaeda DeWalt
#68. Creativity connects me to my truest self and vulnerability. There is nothing more personally liberating, than reaching for my face and peeling off the social mask that hides my; shadow self, pain and weakness. When i produce from this place of truth, the results transform both creator and beholder. #Quote by Jaeda DeWalt
Shadow quotes by Hunter S. Thompson
#69. But I have a flash of Good News from the Police Atrocity front, which is heating up in Denver. ... Stand back! Good News is rare in the Criminal Justice System, but every once in a while you find it, and this is one of those times. To wit: the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers has formally entered the Appeals trial of young Lisl Auman - the girl who remains locked up in a cell at the Colorado State Prison for the Rest of Her Life with No Possibility of Parole for a bogus crime she was never even Accused of committing. She is a living victim of a cold-blooded political trial that will cast a long shadow on Denver for many years to come. Lisl is the only person ever convicted in the United States for Felony Murder who was in police custody when the crime happened. #Quote by Hunter S. Thompson
Shadow quotes by Joe Abercrombie
#70. It's not easy is it? Being a great man's son. You'd thought that would come with all kinds of advantages - with borrowed admiration, and respect. But it's only as easy as it is for the seeds of a great tree, trying to grow in its choking shadow. Not many make it to the sunlight for themselves. #Quote by Joe Abercrombie
Shadow quotes by Jodi Picoult
#71. Outside, the moon is a silver sliver. Every night, the shadow eats a slice of it, until it's nothing but this hollow rind. I feel the same way; with each day, I lose a little more of myself. #Quote by Jodi Picoult
Shadow quotes by Neil Gaiman
#72. Alviss, son of Vindalf. He's the king of the dwarfs. The biggest, mightiest, greatest of all the dwarf folk.
"But he's not a dwarf," pointed out Shadow. "He's what, five-eight?"
"Which makes him a giant among dwarfs," said Czernobog from behind him. "Tallest dwarf in America. #Quote by Neil Gaiman
Shadow quotes by Christine Feehan
#73. You make me feel alive, Grace. Every cell in my body wakes up around you. My heart. Who knew it was even possible? #Quote by Christine Feehan
Shadow quotes by Claire North
#74. I am frightened now. I am frightened that when he fades from my memory, a piece of me will die too. The feelings, the things I have learned, the ideas I have had today, so many ideas, so many feelings, they will die with my memory. I fear that loss. But more, a terror that I must share with my future self. I fear what this means for me. If you forget the joy of this day, then what joy you give to others will also be forgotten, and your life has no consequence, no meaning, no worth. I am a shadow, blasted away by the sun, a meaningless occlusion of light that fades with the day. #Quote by Claire North
Shadow quotes by Victor Hugo
#75. The duty of the inn-keeper,is to sell to the first comer, stews, repose, light, fire, dirty
sheets, a servant, lice, and a smile; to stop passers-by, to empty small
purses, and to honestly lighten heavy ones; to shelter travelling families
respectfully: to shave the man, to pluck the woman, to pick the child
clean; to quote the window open, the window shut, the chimney-corner,the arm-chair, the chair, the ottoman, the stool, the feather-bed, the mattress
and the truss of straw; to know how much the shadow uses up the
mirror, and to put a price on it; and, by five hundred thousand devils, to
make the traveller pay for everything, even for the flies which his dog
eats! #Quote by Victor Hugo
Shadow quotes by Cassandra Clare
#76. You are the two halves of a whole. You must be different, like light and shadow- he brings you caution to temper your recklessness, and you bring him recklessness to temper his caution. Without each other you would not function as well as you do. That is what parabatai means. #Quote by Cassandra Clare
Shadow quotes by L.J.Smith
#77. There is a Shadow World, like our own but different, existing alongside ours but never touching. Some people call it the world of dreams, but it is as real as anything else. #Quote by L.J.Smith
Shadow quotes by Leonard Nimoy
#78. Essentially, in photography, I think on two levels: one emotional and the other technical. The emotional impact has to do with looking for something dramatic happening in the photograph, something that reaches out and touches somebody in some way. And the technical is having to do with composition and framing - light and dark, light and shadow. #Quote by Leonard Nimoy
Shadow quotes by Adi Shankara
#79. You never identify yourself with the shadows cast by your body, or with its reflection, or with the body you see in a dream or in your imagination. Therefore you should not identify yourself with this living body either. #Quote by Adi Shankara
Shadow quotes by Nikolai Gogol
#80. What grief is not taken away by time? What passion will survive an unequal battle with it? I knew a man in the bloom of his still youthful powers, filled with true nobility and virtue, I knew him when he was in love, tenderly, passionately, furiously, boldly, modestly, and before me, almost before my eyes, the object of his passion - tender, beautiful as an angel - was struck down by insatiable death. I never saw such terrible fits of inner suffering, such furious scorching anguish, such devouring despair as shook the unfortunate lover. I never thought a man could create such a hell for himself, in which there would be no shadow, no image, nothing in the least resembling hope... They tried to keep an eye on him; they hid all instruments he might have used to take his own life. Two weeks later he suddenly mastered himself: he began to laugh, to joke; freedom was granted him, and the first thing he did was buy a pistol. One day his family was terribly frightened by the sudden sound of a shot. They ran into the room and saw him lying with his brains blown out. A doctor who happened to be there, whose skill was on everyone's lips, saw signs of life in him, found that the wound was not quite mortal, and the man, to everyone's amazement, was healed. The watch on him was increased still more. Even at the table they did not give him a knife to and tried to take away from him anything that he might strike himself with; but a short while later he found a new occasion and threw himself #Quote by Nikolai Gogol
Shadow quotes by Rosamund Marriott Watson
#81. The dim grass stirs with your footstep,
The blue dusk throbs with your smile;
I and the world of glory
Are one for a little while.
* * * * *
The spring sun shows me your shadow,
The spring wind bears me your breath,
You are mine for a passing moment,
But I am yours to the death. #Quote by Rosamund Marriott Watson
Shadow quotes by Ali Harper
#82. Logan felt like Icarus. He had never felt so free and blissfully alive as he did whenever he was with her. The closer he got to her the higher and happier he felt. Even at the mention of her name his heart would pound incessantly and all the giddy feelings he didn't quite understand would suddenly reemerge. Every glance upon her blinding beauty cast a shadow upon every other girl for him. Everyone else paled in comparison to her. With every passing moment he had somehow discovered something new and exciting about her. With her by his side he could feel the light breeze flapping against his sides and the warmth of sunshine beating down on his handsome face. This is what it meant to be truly awake. This is what it meant to be in love.
But just like Icarus he had gotten too close and had crashed and burned. As he lay crippled in the aftermath of his own destruction he wondered what hurt more the aching pangs of physical pain his body had been subjected to or the raw burning sensation he felt in his heart. He had gladly given her his heart and in return she threw it back in pieces claiming it wasn't enough. That he wasn't enough. #Quote by Ali Harper
Shadow quotes by Maxine Kumin
#83. Meanwhile let us cast one shadow in air and water. #Quote by Maxine Kumin
Shadow quotes by David Louden
#84. He was a shadow of the man that once intimidated us out of our home, a shell of a human being, a fragment of a father. #Quote by David Louden
Shadow quotes by Zelda Fitzgerald
#85. I have often told you that I am that little fish who swims about under a shark and, I believe, lives indelicately on its offal. Anyway, that is the way I am. Life moves over me in a vast black shadow and I swallow whatever it drops with relish, having learned in a very hard school that one cannot be both a parasite and enjoy self-nourishment without moving in worlds too fantastic for even my disordered imagination to people with meaning. #Quote by Zelda Fitzgerald
Shadow quotes by Shara McCallum
#86. You will leave your home:
nothing will hold you.
You will wear dresses of gold; skins
of silver, copper and bronze.
The sky above you will shift in meaning
each time you think you understand.
You will spend a lifetime chipping away layers
of flesh. The shadow of your scales
will always remain. You will be marked
by sulphur and salt.
You will bathe endlessly in clear streams and fail
to rid yourself of that scent.
Your feet will never be your own.
Stone will be your path.
Storms will follow in your wake,
destroying all those who take you in.
You will desert your children
kill your lovers and devour their flesh.
You will love no one
but the wind and ache of your bones.
Neither will love you in return.
With age, your hair will grow matted and dull,
your skin will gape and hang in long folds,
your eyes will cease to shine.
But nothing will be enough.
The sea will never take you back. #Quote by Shara McCallum
Shadow quotes by Henry Van Dyke
#87. The shadow by my finger cast Divides the future from the past: Before it, sleeps the unborn hour, In darkness, and beyond thy power. Behind its unreturning line, The vanished hour, no longer thine: One hour alone is in thy hands,- The NOW on which the shadow stands. #Quote by Henry Van Dyke
Shadow quotes by Karen Marie Moning
#88. It was a land of shadows and ice.
Of gray. And grayer. And black.
-The Unseelie prison of Aedan #Quote by Karen Marie Moning
Shadow quotes by Dan Brown
#89. Washington, D.C., has everything that Rome, Paris and London have in the way of great architecture - great power bases. Washington has obelisks and pyramids and underground tunnels and great art and a whole shadow world that we really don't see. #Quote by Dan Brown
Shadow quotes by Nalini Singh
#90. Mercy didn't get embarrassed easily, but her cheeks flamed now. Because if Riley knew she was in heat - like a freaking wild cat! - then so did the rest of her own pack. "So what, you followed me hoping I'd lower my standards and sleep with a wolf?" She intentionally made "wolf" sound about as appetizing as "reptile."
Riley's jaw tightened under a shadow of stubble a shade darker than the deep chestnut of his hair. "You want to claw at me, kitty-cat? Come on."
Her hands clenched. She really wasn't this much of a bitch. But goddamn Riley had a way of lighting her fuse. #Quote by Nalini Singh
Shadow quotes by Cassandra Clare
#91. James had thought he wanted a friend like himself, a parabatai who was shy and quiet and would enter in on James's feelings about the terror of parties. Instead here was Matthew, who was the life and soul of every party, who made dreadful hairbrush decisions, who was unexpectedly and terribly kind. Who had tried to be his friend and kept trying, even though James did not know what trying to be a friend looked like. Who could see James, even when he was a shadow. Yes, #Quote by Cassandra Clare
Shadow quotes by Rumi
#92. Being desirable means being comfortable with your own ambiguity. The most ambiguous reality is that we are flesh and spirit at the same time. Within everyone there is light and shadow, good and evil, love and hate. In order to be truthful, you must embrace your total being. A person who exhibits both positive and negative qualities, strengths and weaknesses is not flawed, but complete. #Quote by Rumi
Shadow quotes by Josh Lanyon
#93. He wouldn't spend another standing in the darkness, hot and sick and shaking inside with a confused mess of feelings that weren't worth analyzing. That he shouldn't have felt anyway.
With Rachel gone it was like balancing on the edge of a cliff - and all the little wildflowers, the netting of grass and roots that kept the cliff from sliding into the sea below, were gone. It was just Matt standing there looking down, waiting to fall.
Even Rachel's memory, the sweet recollection of all they had built, all they had shared, was no longer strong enough to fight gravity. From the moment he had looked across the wet grass and seen Nathan Doyle standing in the shadow of a stone saber-toothed tiger, something had changed inside him. Something battened down had torn free, like a sail taking its first deep breath of sea air.
It terrified him.
And at the same time it exhilarated him.
Which terrified him all the more. #Quote by Josh Lanyon
Shadow quotes by Lali A. Love
#94. Mira was abruptly awakened by the slamming of the front door when she realized that Lilac was sleeping beside her. She quickly moved Lilac's arm and went to see what had caused the noise. As she reached the front hall, she recognized the shadow of a man sitting on her sofa. A bolt of paralyzing fear shot right through her body. She was stunned to see Dragan staring at her; his eyes were cold and illuminating in the darkness of the room. #Quote by Lali A. Love
Shadow quotes by Abhijit Naskar
#95. Time and again the need arises for one fierce sword of character to stand face to face with the inhumans and bigots, and announce with a earth-shaking fervor - from this moment on, you are only inches away from extinction - at night look closely to every shadow - and by the light of day know that I am just one step behind you - mark me - one sinister move, one malicious deed and I will swoop down on you like god's thunder - from this moment on, I own your evil heart, and I will crush it, if you hurt the people anymore. #Quote by Abhijit Naskar
Shadow quotes by Michael Ashcroft
#96. The certainty with which Cameron informed MPs and Shadow ministers of the specifics of a Labour offer that never actually existed suggests a degree of flexibility with the truth. #Quote by Michael Ashcroft
Shadow quotes by Libba Bray
#97. Miss Ohio flailed with excitement. "Makeovers are so fun! It's like the Superman phone booth of girl."

Adina sat up. "It's denigrating and objectifying."

"No. It's eye shadow and lipstick and sex and mystery and magic and transformation and fun. And nobody's taking that away from me. #Quote by Libba Bray
Shadow quotes by Edward Herrmann
#98. Flirting with the dark side has always had it's fascination. Because you learn, and there's wisdom there. Escpecially with the post-Freudian era with the young, the shadow is ninety percent gold. You hold treasures there that you need to learn about yourself to be a whole person. #Quote by Edward Herrmann
Shadow quotes by Robin Sloan
#99. It was tall, made of pale blue light, a creature with long arms and long legs and the shadow of a smile, and above it all, eyes that shone bluer still than its body. "What do you seek in this place?" the shade asked plainly. #Quote by Robin Sloan
Shadow quotes by C. G. Jung
#100. It is the face of his own evil shadow that grins at Western man from the other side of the Iron curtain. #Quote by C. G. Jung
Shadow quotes by Hermann Hesse
#101. He lost his Self a thousand times and for days on end he dwelt in non-being. But although the paths took him away from Self, in the end they always led back to it. Although Siddhartha fled from the Self a thousand times, dwelt in nothing, dwelt in animal and stone, the return was inevitable; the hour was inevitable when he would again find himself in sunshine or in moonlight, in shadow or in rain, and was again Self and Siddhartha, again felt the torment of the onerous life cycle. #Quote by Hermann Hesse
Shadow quotes by Rajneesh
#102. Doing brings ego. Ego is the shadow of action. And there is only one thing that is not doing and that is awareness, watchfulness. The only thing that is not part of the world of action is pure awareness. No shadow is created by pure awareness. It is so pure that light can pass through it - it is transparent and no shadow is created. #Quote by Rajneesh
Shadow quotes by Jarod Kintz
#103. I had a dream about you. You were a sunscreen salesperson, and you approached me and said, "Would you like to buy some sunscreen?" I looked at you like you were a curious insect as I replied, "No thanks. I'm still standing in my father's shadow. #Quote by Jarod Kintz
Shadow quotes by Henry Ward Beecher
#104. The great men of earth are the shadow men, who, having lived and died, now live again and forever through their undying thoughts. Thus living, though their footfalls are heard no more, their voices are louder than the thunder, and unceasing as the flow of tides or air. #Quote by Henry Ward Beecher
Shadow quotes by Leonard Holton
#105. Facts are delusion," he said. "They are a delusion of truth as a mirage is a delusion of sight. The real facts lie in people's minds and not in fingerprints and books and photographs and all the other physical things which are only the accidents that occur as a result of what lies in the mind. Truth is a matter of the mind and all else is only a blurred shadow to reconstruct the original image. Bit it is the image we are searching for. #Quote by Leonard Holton
Shadow quotes by Jean-Paul Sartre
#106. We stay silent for a moment. Evening is coming on; I can hardly make out the pale spot of her face. Her black dress melts with the shadow which floods the room. I pick up my cup mechanically, there's a little tea left in it and I bring it to my lips. The tea is cold. I want to smoke but I don't dare. I have the terrible feeling that we have nothing more to say to one another. #Quote by Jean-Paul Sartre
Shadow quotes by S.C. Parris
#107. Tears fled her eyes as she ran, and they slid into her ears, but she did not wipe them, no, she pressed forward through the many trees, keeping her eyes upon the large shadow that flew forward, almost guiding her out of the woods, but that was preposterous – so why am I following it?
What do you mean why are you following it? It's the only thing that's putting distance between you and those...monsters back there!
But what about Lord Delacroix?
What the devil about him?
He tried to keep you safe – he truly did attempt to save you -
And what did that get him? Crushed by a damned Lycan – again!
But I should still go back to save him....
I should keep moving!
But he's saved my life – I can't let him die!
Technically, he's already dead, Alexi....
Goddamn it all!
Run – run now – come back when you're safe!
Come back? With who?!
Help, of course!
Where on Earth am I going to find help?! #Quote by S.C. Parris
Shadow quotes by Debbie Ford
#108. To get past your ego and its defenses you need to get quiet, be brave, and listen to your inner voices ... When you embrace the messages of each aspect of your shadow, you begin to take back the power you've given to others and form a bond of trust with your authentic self. The voices of your unembraced qualities, when allowed into your consciousness, will bring you back into balance and harmony with your natural rhythms. #Quote by Debbie Ford
Shadow quotes by Christine Feehan
#109. If you let yourself believe in me, I'll take care of us. I believe absolutely, without a shadow of a doubt, that you'll take care of us just as well. #Quote by Christine Feehan
Shadow quotes by Neil Gaiman
#110. Shadow had noticed that you only ever catch one episode of shows you don't watch, over and over, years apart: he thought it must be some kind of cosmic law. #Quote by Neil Gaiman
Shadow quotes by Richard Rudd
#111. Every intentional act is a magical act." Even the smallest action has a spin-off effect that travels out into the universe. Actions made out of resentment or fear reinforce the Shadow frequency both in the world and in the individual. Indifferent acts reinforce indifference, whereas acts done in joy or service create more joy. #Quote by Richard Rudd
Shadow quotes by Dickens Charles
#112. After bursting open a door of idiotic obstinacy with a weak rattle in its throat, you fell into Tellson's down two steps, and came to your senses in a miserable little shop, with two little counters, where the oldest of men made your cheque shake as if the wind rustled it, while they examined the signature by the dingiest of windows, which were always under a shower-bath of mud from Fleet-street, and which were made the dingier by their own iron bars proper, and the heavy shadow of Temple Bar. #Quote by Dickens Charles
Shadow quotes by William Shakespeare
#113. Which dreams indeed are ambition;for the very substance of the ambitious is merely the shadow of a dream. A dream itself is but a shadow. #Quote by William Shakespeare
Shadow quotes by Lao-Tzu
#114. The higher the sun ariseth, the less shadow doth he cast; even so the greater is the goodness, the less doth it covet praise; yet cannot avoid its rewards in honours. #Quote by Lao-Tzu
Shadow quotes by Daisy Whitney
#115. Why am I doing this? Because it feels so good to talk like we used to, even though I know this is just a shadow of what we had. But I chase it anyway. #Quote by Daisy Whitney
Shadow quotes by Ivan Goncharov
#116. Ah! This is retribution for Promethean fire! Besides being patient, you must also love this sadness and respect your doubts and questions. They are an abundant excess, a luxury of life, and they appear more at the summits of happiness, when you have no crude desires. They are not born in the midst of mundanity. They have no place where there is grief and want. The masses go along without knowing the fog of doubts or the anguish of questions. But for anyone who has encountered them at the right time they are dear visitors, not a hammer.'

'But there's no coping with them. They bring anguish and indifference to nearly everything.' she added indecisively.

'But for how long? Afterward they refresh life,' he said. 'They lead to an abyss from which nothing can be gained, and they force you to look again at life, with even greater love. They summon up your tested powers to struggle with it, as if expressly to let them sleep afterward.'

'This fog and these specters torment me!' she complained. 'Everything is bright and all of a sudden a sinister shadow is cast over life! Are there no means against this?'

'What do you mean? Your buttress is in life! Without it, life is sickening, even without any questions!'

Shadow quotes by Fernando Pessoa
#117. Dusk shrouds the long and useless day.
Even the hope it denied us crumbles
To nothing ... Life is a drunken beggar
Holding out his hand to his own shadow. #Quote by Fernando Pessoa
Shadow quotes by Laura Thalassa
#118. Mighty Nyx came,

Mighty Nyx sought,

All that he could,

Of his dark lot.

In the deep night,

His kingdom rose,

Beware, great king,

Of that which grows.

Easy to conquer,

Easy to crown,

But even the strongest,

Can be cut down.

Raised in the shadows,

Reared in the night,

Your child will come,

And ascend by might.

And you, the slain,

Shall wait and see,

What other things,

A soul can be.

A body to curse,

A body to blame,

A body the earth,

Will not yet claim.

Beware the mortal,

Beneath your sky,

Crush the human,

Who'll see you die.

Twice you'll rise,

Twice you'll fall,

Lest you can,

Change it all.

Or perish by day,

Perish by dawn,

The world believes,

You're already gone.

So darken your heart,

My shadow king,

And let us see,

What war will bring.

- The Prophecy of Galleghar Nyx #Quote by Laura Thalassa
Shadow quotes by Richelle Mead
#119. I think Adrian really likes you. Like, in a wanting-to-be-serious way."
I shook my head and stepped back. "Nope. He likes me in a wanting-to-get-the-clothes-off-the-cute-dhampir way. #Quote by Richelle Mead
Shadow quotes by DJ Shadow
#120. As for my store, most artists' sites send you to a third-party storefront like iTunes, whereas we're disseminating it ourselves. I was always uncomfortable with the thought of sending somebody who came to my site to buy something to some other store. It just occurred to me, "Why can't we do this?" #Quote by DJ Shadow

Shadow quotes by Neil Gaiman
#122. They walked downhill through the snow, pushing their way through the drifts. Chapman walked in front, his bare feet red against the crust-topped snow. "Aren't you cold?" asked Shadow. "My wife was Choctaw," said Chapman. "And she taught you mystical ways to keep out the cold?" "Nope. She thought I was crazy," said Chapman. "She used t'say, 'Johnny, why don't you jes' put on boots? #Quote by Neil Gaiman

Shadow quotes by Irvin D. Yalom
#125. Whether I will live a long time or a short time, I'm alive now, at this moment. What I want is to know that there are other things to hope for besides length of life. What I want to know is that it isn't necessary to turn away from thoughts of suffering or death but neither is it necessary to give these thoughts too much time and space. What I want is to be intimate with the knowledge that life is temporary. And then, in the light (or shadow) of that knowledge, to know how to live. How to live now. #Quote by Irvin D. Yalom
Shadow quotes by Herman Melville
#126. The shadows of things are greater than themselves; and the more exaggerated the shadow, the more unlike the substance. #Quote by Herman Melville
Shadow quotes by Antonio Dias
#127. Sere grass grew in tufts out of a pale, sandy soil, no richer for the thousands of souls planted there. Red-brown moss clumped amidst blankets of lichens of pale lavender-gray. Dark, twisted shrubs prickled rising above a knobby hillock, sharp, tiny leaves turning bronze or bright red and yellow with the advancing autumn. A wrought-iron gate guarded deep shadow inside a crypt, illustrated the silence of the grave, he thought. #Quote by Antonio Dias

Shadow quotes by Roxanne Dunbar-Ortiz
#129. Crazy Horse was a new kind of leader to emerge after the Civil War, at the beginning of the army's wars of annihilation in the northern plains and the Southwest. Born in 1842 in the shadow of the sacred Paha Sapa (Black Hills), he was considered special, a quiet and brooding child. Already the effects of colonialism were present among his people, particularly alcoholism and missionary influence. Crazy Horse became a part of the Akicita, a traditional Sioux society that kept order in villages and during migrations. It also had authority to make certain that the hereditary chiefs were doing their duty and dealt harshly with those who did not. #Quote by Roxanne Dunbar-Ortiz

Shadow quotes by Robert Musil
#131. For a long time now a hint of aversion had lain on everything he did and experienced, a shadow of impotence and loneliness, an all-encompassing distaste for which he could not find the complementary inclination. He felt at times as though he had been born with a talent for which there was at present no objective. #Quote by Robert Musil
Shadow quotes by Eric Weiner
#132. [Happiness is] a ghost, it's a shadow. You can't really chase it. It's a by-product, a very pleasant side effect to a life lived well. #Quote by Eric Weiner
Shadow quotes by Robert Jordan
#133. To stand against the Shadow so long as iron is hard and stone abides.
To defend the Malkieri while one drop of blood remains.
To avenge what cannot be defended. #Quote by Robert Jordan
Shadow quotes by Jennifer L. Armentrout
#134. You're safe now," Rider said. "I here. You're safe, Mouse. And I know you might not believe it, but I'm going to keep you safe forever." He swallowed and swiped at his lip. "That's a promise."
Forever.
He's promised he'd be there for me forever.
But I was of the mind that there were two types of forever.
The good kind.
The bad kind.
I'd learned early on that the good kind of forever was, well, it was a lie. That kind of forever literally and figuratively ended in flames, because no matter how tightly you tried to hold on, that kind of forever slipped between the fingers.
The bad kind of forever lingered like a shadow or ghost. No matter what. It stayed, always in the background. #Quote by Jennifer L. Armentrout
Shadow quotes by Johannes Kepler
#135. I used to measure the heavens
Now the Earth's shadows I measure
My mind was in the heavens,

Shadow quotes by Amie Kaufman
#136. But we have seen how brightly light shines in the dark, how sweetly music fills the quiet. All these years you have known only shadow and silence, and we have so much to show you. To save you.
I am not worth saving.
We are all worth saving.
How can you know?
We cannot ever know, not truly.
But we have faith. #Quote by Amie Kaufman
Shadow quotes by Stephanie Garber
#137. Scarlett's nana used to say the world of Caraval was Master Legend's playground. No words were spoken that he didn't hear. Not even a whisper could escape his ears, no shadow went unseen by his eyes. No one ever saw Legend---or if they did, they didn't know it was him---but Legend saw all during Caraval. #Quote by Stephanie Garber

Shadow quotes by Matt Tomerlin
#145. Her hair was matted to her head, glistening dark red, like wine through a murky bottle. Her torn shirt hung loose, a breast carelessly exposed, and her breeches were taut against the lean muscles of her legs. She treaded through the waves, never swaying in the current, until she stood before him, face concealed in shadow. "You swim faster with one arm than I with two," she said.
Nathan laughed. "You frightened me. #Quote by Matt Tomerlin

Shadow quotes by James Whistler
#147. As light fades and the shadows deepen, all petty and exacting details vanish, everything trivial disappears, and I see things as they are in great strong masses: the buttons are lost, but the sitter remains; the sitter is lost, but the shadow remains; the shadow is lost, but the picture remains. And that, night cannot efface from the painter's imagination. #Quote by James Whistler
Shadow quotes by Arthur W. Pink
#148. Absolute Purity, unsullied even by the shadow of sin. "God is light, and in him is no darkness at all" (1Jo 1:5). Holiness is the very excellency of the divine nature: the great God is "glorious in holiness" (Exo 15:11). Therefore do we read, "Thou art of purer eyes than to behold evil, and canst not look on iniquity" (Hab 1:13). As #Quote by Arthur W. Pink

Shadow quotes by Stephen King
#150. What comes in when daylight leaves is a kind of certainty: that beneath the skin there is a secret, some mystery both black and bright. You feel this mystery in every breath, you see it in every shadow, you expect to plunge into it at every turn of a step. #Quote by Stephen King
Shadow quotes by Paul Levy
#151. Paradoxically, in descending into the depths of the unconscious in order to deal with the prima materia of the shadow, we are simultaneously on the path of ascending to the truly real, as we become introduced to the higher-dimensional light worlds of spirit. #Quote by Paul Levy
Shadow quotes by Soren Kierkegaard
#152. This is what is sad when one contemplates human life, that so many live out their lives in quiet lostness ... they live, as it were, away from themselves and vanish like shadows. Their immortal souls are blown away, and they are not disquieted by the question of its immortality, because they are already disintegrated before they die. #Quote by Soren Kierkegaard
Shadow quotes by Simone De Beauvoir
#153. There was once a man who lost his shadow. I forget what happened to him, but it was dreadful. As for me, I've lost my own image. I did not look at it often; but it was there, in the background, just as Maurice had drawn it for me. A straightforward, genuine, "authentic" woman, with out mean-mindedness, uncompromising, but at the same time understanding, indulgent, sensitive, deeply feeling, intensely aware of things and of people, passionately devoted to those she loved and creating happiness for them. A fine life, serene, full, "harmonious." It is dark: I cannot see myself anymore. And what do the others see? Maybe something hideous. #Quote by Simone De Beauvoir
Shadow quotes by Dennis Sharpe
#154. Inching into the room, it's clear something is wrong here. There's a tingling sensation up my legs and back before I can even really focus on the parlor's details. There are silhouettes of people, but I can see through them. It's like shadows were cast and left behind to do as they please. Lost in the surreal sight of them for a moment, I inch further into the room without noticing that some were now moving behind me.

There is no warning. I'm suddenly in the air, and moving backward rapidly toward the wall. It's almost a full second before my body registers the actual pain of the blow my stomach just took. Being hit by a car doesn't even compare to this, and I didn't even see it coming.

"For a shadow, you hit like a sledgehammer!" The words barely escape before something else slams into the base of my skull embedding most of my upper body in the wall and all but removing my head. These things are like Lucy; the disembodied dead who haven't moved on. I've never met others that can actually touch things physically, they must be fairly potent.

I pull my face out of the hole it had been planted in, letting plaster dust fall, coating my chest and legs like snow. Looking around quickly I try to gauge my surroundings. I can't see them, but I know they're there. Is one easy night, without a huge dry-cleaning bill, too much to ask for these days?

I only have time to dwell on it a moment before my head is bouncing off the hardwood floor; once #Quote by Dennis Sharpe

Shadow quotes by John Piper
#156. A woman who fears the Lord will not run away from God to satisfy her longings and relieve her anxieties. She will wait for the Lord. She will hope in God. She will stay close to the heart of God and trust in his promises. The prospect of departing into the way of sin will be too fearful to pursue; and the benefits of abiding in the shadow of the Almighty too glorious to forsake. #Quote by John Piper

#157. When the sun shines wondrously in the morning, even the shadows in our mind start running away! #Quote by Mehmet Murat Ildan
Shadow quotes by B. Perry E. Scarze
#158. What does a haunting feel like? Some say that they feel as though they have been watched. Others say that they have seen figures. Have you ever felt as though you are not alone in your house? Weird creaks? Footsteps in the dark? A laugh where there should never have been a voice. A man standing in your room? A figure? A shadow? A phantom? Your house may well be haunted, if you can say yes to any of those questions. The stories you are about to read are all true. All #Quote by B. Perry E. Scarze
Shadow quotes by John Stuart Mill
#159. There are nations in whom the passion for governing others is so much stronger than the desire of personal independence, that for the mere shadow of the one they are found ready to sacrifice the whole of the other. Each one of their number is willing, like the private soldier in an army, to abdicate his personal freedom of action into the hands of his general, provided the army is triumphant and victorious, and he is able to flatter himself that he is one of a conquering host, though the notion that he has himself any share in the domination exercised over the conquered is an illusion. A government strictly limited in its powers and attributions, required to hold its hands from overmeddling, and to let most things go on without its assuming the part of guardian or director, is not to the taste of such a people. #Quote by John Stuart Mill

Shadow quotes by Terry Pratchett
#163. O: You're quite a writer. You've a gift for language, you're a deft hand at plotting, and your books seem to have an enormous amount of attention to detail put into them. You're so good you could write anything. Why write fantasy?

Pratchett: I had a decent lunch, and I'm feeling quite amiable. That's why you're still alive. I think you'd have to explain to me why you've asked that question.

O: It's a rather ghettoized genre.

P: This is true. I cannot speak for the US, where I merely sort of sell okay. But in the UK I think every book - I think I've done twenty in the series - since the fourth book, every one has been one the top ten national bestsellers, either as hardcover or paperback, and quite often as both. Twelve or thirteen have been number one. I've done six juveniles, all of those have nevertheless crossed over to the adult bestseller list. On one occasion I had the adult best seller, the paperback best-seller in a different title, and a third book on the juvenile bestseller list. Now tell me again that this is a ghettoized genre.

O: It's certainly regarded as less than serious fiction.

P: (Sighs) Without a shadow of a doubt, the first fiction ever recounted was fantasy. Guys sitting around the campfire - Was it you who wrote the review? I thought I recognized it - Guys sitting around the campfire telling each other stories about the gods who made lightning, and stuff like that. They did not tell one another #Quote by Terry Pratchett
Shadow quotes by Wayne Dyer
#164. It may seem proper to comfort those in darkness by emulating their shadow thoughts, but you will help to eliminate that darkness altogether by bringing light to the present moment. #Quote by Wayne Dyer
Shadow quotes by Ernest Hemingway
#165. He watched Richard Gordon lurching down the street until he was out of sight in the shadow from the big trees whose branches dipped down to grow into the ground like roots. What he was thinking as he watched him was not pleasant. It is a mortal sin, he thought, a grave and deadly sin and a great cruelty, and while technically one's religion may permit the ultimate result, I cannot pardon myself. On the other hand, a surgeon cannot desist while operating for fear of hurting the patient. But why must, all operations in life be performed with out an anesthetic? If I had been a better man I would have let him beat me up. It would have been better for him. The poor stupid man. The poor homeless man. I ought to stay with him, but I know that is too much for him to bear. I am ashamed and disgusted with myself and I hate what I have done. It all may turn out badly too. But I must not think about that. I will now return to the anesthetic I have used for seventeen years and will not need much longer. Although it is probably a vice now for which I only invent excuses. Though at least it is a vice for which I am suited. But I wish I could help that poor man who I am wronging. #Quote by Ernest Hemingway
Shadow quotes by Rob Brezsny
#166. Push hard to get better, become smarter, grow your devotion to the truth, fuel your commitment to beauty, refine your emotional intelligence, hone your dreams, negotiate with your shadow, cure your ignorance, shed your pettiness, heighten your drive to look for the best in people, and soften your heart
even as you always accept yourself for exactly who you are with all of your so-called imperfections. #Quote by Rob Brezsny
Shadow quotes by R.S. Thomas
#167. Man is a dream about a shadow. But when some splendour falls upon him from God, a glory comes to him and his life is sweet. #Quote by R.S. Thomas
Shadow quotes by Patrick Suskind
#168. Moonlight knew no colors and traced the contours of the terrain only very softly. It covered the land a dirty gray, strangling life all night long. This world molded in lead, where nothing moved but the wind that fell sometimes like a shadow over the gray forests, and where nothing lived but the scent of the naked earth, was the only world he accepted, for it was much like the world of his soul. #Quote by Patrick Suskind
Shadow quotes by Paul Miller
#169. Even on especially hard days, I began to notice him everywhere, setting a table before me in the presence of my enemies, pursuing me with his love. Both the child and the cynic walk through the valley of the shadow of death. The cynic focuses on the darkness; the child focuses on the Shepherd. #Quote by Paul Miller
Shadow quotes by George Eliot
#170. Death is the only physician, the shadow of his valley the only journeying that will cure us of age and the gathering fatigue of years. #Quote by George Eliot
Shadow quotes by Erin Kellison

Shadow quotes by Paul Harding
#172. The flowers Howard now walked among were the few last heirs to that brief local span of disaster and regeneration and he felt close to the sort of secrets he often caught himself wondering about, the revelations of which he only ever realized he had been in the proximity of after he became conscious of that proximity, and that phenomenon , of becoming conscious, was the very thing that whisked him away, so that any bit of insight or afterglow that remained but that was not accessible through words. He thought, But what about through grass and flowers and light and shadow? #Quote by Paul Harding

Shadow quotes by Ben H. Winters
#174. I do it even now, you see? I play false, I dance and dance. I murmur the stories in shadow or half shadow; I pretend to myself that I don't remember the names, the details, when in fact I do. I did and I do - I remember all their names. #Quote by Ben H. Winters
Shadow quotes by Sarah Helen Whitman
#175. Beside the brook and on the umbered meadow, Where yellow fern-tufts fleck the faded ground, With folded lids beneath their palmy shadow The gentian nods in dewy slumbers bound. #Quote by Sarah Helen Whitman
Shadow quotes by Shunryu Suzuki
#176. It is said that there are four kinds of horses: excellent ones, good ones, poor ones, and bad ones. The best horse will run slow and fast, right and left, at the driver's will, before it sees the shadow of the whip; the second best will run as well as the first one does, just before the whip reaches its skin; the third one will run when it feels pain on its body; the fourth will run after the pain penetrates to the marrow of its bones. You can imagine how difficult it is for the fourth one to learn how to run!

When we hear this story, almost all of us want to be the best horse. If it is impossible to be the best one, we want to be the second best. That is, I think, the usual understanding of this story, and of Zen. You may think that when you sit in zazen you will find out whether you are one of the best horses or one of the worst ones. Here, however, there is a misunderstanding of Zen. If you think the aim of Zen practice is to train you to become one of the best horses, you will have a big problem. This is not the right understanding. If you practice Zen in the right way it does not matter whether you are the best horse or the worst one. When you consider the mercy of Buddha, how do you think Buddha will feel about the four kinds of horses? He will have more sympathy for the worst one than for the best one.

When you are determined to practice zazen with the great mind of Buddha, you will find the worst horse is the most valuable one. In your very imper #Quote by Shunryu Suzuki

Shadow quotes by George R R Martin
#178. Some lights cast more than one shadow. Stand before nightfall and you'll see for yourself. The flames shift and dance, never still. The shadows grow tall and short, and every man casts a dozen. Some are fainter than others, that's all. Well, men cast shadows across the future, as well. One shadow or many. - Stannis #Quote by George R R Martin
Shadow quotes by Orson Scott Card
#179. Mom," said Peter, "nobody thinks you're a lackwit, if that's what you're worried about."
Lackwit? In what musty drawer of some dead English professor's dust-covered desk did you find that word? I assure you that never in my worst nightmares did I ever suppose that I was a lackwit. #Quote by Orson Scott Card
Shadow quotes by R. Scott Bakker
#180. Water everywhere, falling in thundering cataracts, singular drops, and draping sheets. Kellhus paused next to one of the shining braziers, peered beneath the bronze visage that loomed orange and scowling over his father, watched him lean back into absolute shadow.
"You came to the world," unseen lips said, "and you saw that Men were like children."
Lines of radiance danced across the intervening waters.
"It is their nature to believe as their fathers believed," the darkness continued. "To desire as they desired … Men are like wax poured into moulds: their souls are cast by their circumstances. Why are no Fanim children born to Inrithi parents? Why are no Inrithi children born to Fanim parents? Because these truths are made, cast by the particularities of circumstance. Rear an infant among Fanim and he will become Fanim. Rear him among Inrithi and he will become Inrithi …
"Split him in two, and he would murder himself."
Without warning, the face re-emerged, water-garbled, white save the black sockets beneath his brow. The action seemed random, as though his father merely changed posture to relieve some vagrant ache, but it was not. Everything, Kellhus knew, had been premeditated. For all the changes wrought by thirty years in the Wilderness, his father remained Dûnyain …
Which meant that Kellhus stood on conditioned ground.
"But as obvious as this is," the blurred face continued, "it escapes them. Because they cannot see what comes before the #Quote by R. Scott Bakker
Shadow quotes by Klaus Mikaelson
#181. We were innocent once. This bloodlust was forced upon us by our parents, turning us from prey to predator. We are the demons lurking in the shadow, We are the savage villains in fairy tales told to children. But not for my child. Not for Hope. In her story, we are the knights in shining armour. Without you by my side, I don't think I can survive my own love for my daughter. I need you. I need you, brother. The monster in me can only be checked by the monster in you. Only together can we defeat our demons and save our family. #Quote by Klaus Mikaelson
Shadow quotes by Henrik Ibsen
#182. The White God is coming northward; him will I not meet; the old gods are strong no longer; - they sleep, they sit half shadow- high; - with them will we strive! #Quote by Henrik Ibsen
Shadow quotes by Cyril Connolly
#183. We are captivated by the feminine shadow of the self we might have been; in my case by that counterpart of the romantic writer who should have had the courage to reject society and to accept poverty for the sake of the development of his personality. Now when I see such beings I hope that I can somehow be freed from my shortcomings by union with them. Hence the recurrent longing to forsake external reality for a dream and to plunge into a ritual flight...I am attracted by those who mysteriously hold out a promise of the integrity which I have lost. #Quote by Cyril Connolly
Shadow quotes by Margaret Atwood

Shadow quotes by Robin Sacredfire
#185. The world is full of cowards. They ridicule your ideas for the fear of losing you; they ridicule your achievements for the fear your success may shadow their uselessness as living beings; they ridicule your pride for the fear your awareness may cast light on the weak, evil and coward; they ridicule you with gossip to stop you from using your awareness to highlight what is rotting in the heart of others; and when everything fails they fear you from day to night and as they sleep. Their thoughts become so immersed by fear that they can't stop thinking on ways to destroy you in any way possible. In their mind you represent evil, danger and everything else they might fear. And so, they will use any excuse to finish you. But that is the inevitable path of the brightest light. Once you acknowledge such truth, your power and strength become immortal. #Quote by Robin Sacredfire
Shadow quotes by John Fowles
#186. When she went out she used to wear a lot of eye shadow, which married with the sulky way she sometimes held her mouth to give her a characteristic bruised look; a look that subtly made one want to bruise her more. #Quote by John Fowles
Shadow quotes by DJ Shadow
#187. I'm trying to satirize what it's like to be a recording artist in 2011. I realize that standing on a soap box and ranting and raving about my opinions on the digital age and its effect on music is only going to get you so far. #Quote by DJ Shadow
Shadow quotes by Richelle Mead
#188. Dimitri: "I also have a feeling your mother's going to have one ugly conversation with me."
Rose: "You're about to go face down Strigoi, and my mother's the one you're scared of?"
Dimitri: "She's a force to be reckoned with. Where do you think you got it from?"
Rose: "It's a wonder you bother with me then."
Dimitri: "You're worth it, believe me. #Quote by Richelle Mead
Shadow quotes by David Wong
#189. I stared at the thing, blinking, thinking it would reveal itself to be, I don't know, a hot-water heater or something. Then I realized the monster-shaped shadow was, surprisingly, a monster. #Quote by David Wong
Shadow quotes by Sonia Sotomayor

Shadow quotes by Ernie Pyle
#191. Below us the Thames grew lighter, and all around below were the shadows - the dark shadows of buildings and bridges that formed the base of this dreadful masterpiece. #Quote by Ernie Pyle
Shadow quotes by Julie Kagawa
#192. Time has no meaning in the wyldwood. Day and night don't really exist here, just light and darkness, and they can be as fickle and moody as everything else. A "night" can pass in the space of a blink, or go on forever. Light and darkness will chase each other through the sky, play hide-and-seek or tag or catch-me-if-you-can. Sometimes, one or the other will become offended ... and refuse to come out for an indefinite amount of time. Once, light became so angry, a hundred years passed in the mortal realm before it deigned to come out again. And though the sun continued to rise and set in the human world, it was a rather turbulent period for the world of men, as all the creatures who lurked in darkness and shadow got to roam freely under the lightless Nevernever skies. #Quote by Julie Kagawa
Shadow quotes by Israelmore Ayivor
#193. Shadows of doubt will always fall behind you when you keep your face towards the sunshine. Believe in God; face the brighter light and cast behind the dark shadows! #Quote by Israelmore Ayivor
Shadow quotes by J.R.R. Tolkien
#194. Then Eomer was silent, and looked on his sister, as if pondering anew all the days of their past life together. But Aragorn said: I saw also what you saw, Eomer. Few other griefs amid the ill chances of this world have more bitterness and shame for a man's heart than to behold the love of a lady so fair and brave that cannot be returned. Sorrow and pity have followed me ever since I left her desperate in Dunharrow and rode to the Paths of the Dead; and no fear upon that way was so present as the fear for what might befall her. And yet, Eomer, I say to you that she loves you more truly than me; for you she loves and knows; but in me she loves only a shadow and a thought: a hope of glory and great deeds, and lands far from the fields of Rohan. #Quote by J.R.R. Tolkien
Shadow quotes by William Sansom
#195. What is the colour of Christmas?
Red?
The red of the toyshops on a dark winter's afternoon,
Of Father Christmas and the robin's breast?
Or green?
Green of holly and spruce and mistletoe in the house,
dark shadow of summer in leafless winter?
One might plainly add a romance of white,
fields of frost and snow;
thus white, green, red- reducing the event to the level of a Chianti bottle.
But many will say that the significant colour is gold,
gold of fire and treasure, of light in the winter dark; and this gets closer,
For the true colour of Christmas is Black.
Black of winter, black of night, black of frost and of the east wind,
black of dangerous shadows beyond the firelight.

I am not sure who wrote this. I got it from page nine of "A Book of Christmas" by William Sansom. Google didn't help. It is rather true I think, that the true color of Christmas is black. For like the author said in succeeding sentences "The table yellow with electric light, the fire by which stories are told, the bright spangle of the tree- they all blazé out of shadow and out of a darkness of winter #Quote by William Sansom

Shadow quotes by Haruki Murakami
#197. I spent thirty-three years in another man's shadow. I went everywhere he went, I helped him with everything he did. I was in a sense a part of him. When you live like that for a long time, you gradually lose track of what it is you yourself really want out of life #Quote by Haruki Murakami

Shadow quotes by Frederic Farrar
#199. When God's children pass under the shadow of the cross of Calvary, they know that through that shadow lies their passage to the great white throne. For them Gethsemane is as paradise. God fills it with sacred presences; its solemn silence is broken by the music of tender promises, its awful darkness softened and brightened by the sunlight of Heavenly faces and the music of angel wings. #Quote by Frederic Farrar
