Photographer quotes by James Nachtwey
#1. It is very hard to say where you're going until you get there. That kind of thing is based very much on instinct. As a photographer, one of the most important lessons I have learnt is that you have to learn to listen to and trust your own instinct. It has helped to guide me - this far at least. #Quote by James Nachtwey
Photographer quotes by John C. Reilly

Photographer quotes by Sally Mann
#6. The thing that makes writing so difficult is you don't have the element of serendipity. At least with a photograph, you can set up the camera, and something might happen. You might be a lousy photographer, but you can get a good picture if you just take enough of them. #Quote by Sally Mann
Photographer quotes by Nikki S. Lee
#7. Just because I use the photographic medium, that doesn't mean I'm a photographer. #Quote by Nikki S. Lee
Photographer quotes by Robert Adams
#8. The only things that distinguish the photographer from everybody else are his pictures: they alone are the basis for our special interest in him. If pictures cannot be understood without knowing details of the artist's private life, then that is a reason for faulting them; major art, by definition, can stand independent of its maker. #Quote by Robert Adams
Photographer quotes by Eric Bana
#9. I really enjoy behind the camera stuff and I'm a frustrated photographer myself and just love the camera. I love that side of it and that part of the [filmmaking] world and I enjoy developing things. It's an area that I'll continue to be more active in as time goes by. #Quote by Eric Bana
Photographer quotes by Henri Cartier-Bresson
#10. The most difficult thing for me is a portrait. You have to try and put your camera between the skin of a person and his shirt. #Quote by Henri Cartier-Bresson
Photographer quotes by Platon
#11. People are at their best when they can be natural. And that's the hardest thing as a photographer. #Quote by Platon
Photographer quotes by Vic Stah Milien

#14. If you want to be a photographer, first leave home #Quote by Steve McCurry
Photographer quotes by Jean Genet
#15. In the second photo I am thirty years old. My face has hardened. The jaws are accentuated. The mouth is bitter and mean. I look like a hoodlum in spite of my eyes, which have remained gentle. Their gentleness is almost indiscernible because of the fixity of gaze imposed upon me by the official photographer. By means of these two pictures I can see the violence that animated me at the time: from the age of sixteen to thirty. #Quote by Jean Genet
Photographer quotes by Hank Bracker
#16. Weston, having been born in Chicago, was raised with typical, well-grounded, mid-western values. On his 16th birthday, his father gave him a Kodak camera with which he started what would become his lifetime vocation. During the summer of 1908, Weston met Flora May Chandler, a schoolteacher who was seven years older than he was. The following year the couple married and in time they had four sons.
Weston and his family moved to Southern California and opened a portrait studio on Brand Boulevard, in the artsy section of Glendale, California, called Tropico. His artistic skills soon became apparent and he became well known for his portraits of famous people, such as Carl Sandburg and Max Eastman. In the autumn of 1913, hearing of his work, Margrethe Mather, a photographer from Los Angeles, came to his studio, where Weston asked her to be his studio assistant. It didn't take long before the two developed a passionate, intimate relationship. Both Weston and Mather became active in the growing bohemian cultural scene in Los Angeles. She was extremely outgoing and artistic in a most flamboyant way. Her bohemian sexual values were new to Weston's conventional thinking, but Mather excited him and presented him with a new outlook that he found enticing. Mather was beautiful, and being bisexual and having been a high-class prostitute, was delightfully worldly. Mather's uninhibited lifestyle became irresistible to Weston and her photography took him into a new and exciting art form. #Quote by Hank Bracker
Photographer quotes by Sebastiao Salgado
#17. When I was just starting out, I met Cartier-Bresson. He wasn't young in age but, in his mind, he was the youngest person I'd ever met. He told me it was necessary to trust my instincts, be inside my work, and set aside my ego. In the end, my photography turned out very different to his, but I believe we were coming from the same place. #Quote by Sebastiao Salgado
Photographer quotes by Ruth Bernhard
#18. My quest, through the magic of light and shadow, is to isolate, to simplify, and to give emphasis to form with the greatest clarity. #Quote by Ruth Bernhard
Photographer quotes by Anne Hathaway
#19. Because I take very seriously the idea that I can make an impact in the world, I hold back my voice so I can make more of an impact when I do use it. A cause like One Billion Rising is something I want to scream about, and I want you to take that scream seriously because I don't fall out of nightclubs. I don't have photographers capture me spending untold amounts on a handbag. #Quote by Anne Hathaway
Photographer quotes by Babette March

Photographer quotes by Henri Cartier-Bresson
#22. The intensive use of photographs by mass media lays ever fresh responsibilities upon the photographer. We have to acknowledge the existence of a chasm between the economic needs of our consumer society and the requirements of those who bear witness to this epoch. This affects us all, particularly the younger generations of photographers. We must take greater care than ever not to allow ourselves to be separated from the real world and from humanity. #Quote by Henri Cartier-Bresson
Photographer quotes by Phil Stern
#23. Look, Matisse I ain't. You know how they have on the invitations, a reception for the artist will be held at ... And I say, Look, you gotta change this. I'm not an artist. I'm a photographer, a skilled craftsman. #Quote by Phil Stern
Photographer quotes by Stephen Shore
#24. I don't have to have a single point of emphasis in the picture. It can be complex, because it's so detailed that the viewer can take time and read it, and look at something here, and look at something there, and they can pay attention to a lot more. #Quote by Stephen Shore
Photographer quotes by Clarence John Laughlin
#25. It therefore should be possible for even the photographer - just as for the creative poet or painter - to use the object as a stepping stone to a realm of meaning completely beyond itself. #Quote by Clarence John Laughlin

Photographer quotes by Ernst Haas
#35. You become things, you become an atmosphere, and if you become it, which means you incorporate it within you, you can also give it back. You can put this feeling into a picture. A painter can do it. And a musician can do it and I think a photographer can do that too and that I would call the dreaming with open eyes. #Quote by Ernst Haas
Photographer quotes by Jerome Liebling
#36. These days it seems that physical truth can easily be rearranged, rethought, or re-created outright. Any image can be made pristine, all the warts can be removed. But returning to the source of a thing - the real source - means the photographer has to watch, dig, listen for voices, sniff the smells, and have many doubts. My life in photography has been lived as a skeptic. #Quote by Jerome Liebling
Photographer quotes by Weegee
#37. When you find yourself beginning to feel a bond between yourself and the people you photograph, when you laugh and cry with their laughter and tears, you will know you are on the right track. #Quote by Weegee

#39. When a photographer chooses a subject, he or she is making a claim on the interest and attention of future viewers, a prediction about what will be thought to have been important. #Quote by Frank Gohlke
Photographer quotes by Ansel Adams
#40. Photography is an investigation of both the outer and the inner worlds. The first experiences with the camera involve looking at the world beyond the lens, trusting the instrument will 'capture' something 'seen.' The terms shoot and take are not accidental; they represent an attitude of conquest and appropriation. Only when the photographer grows into perception and creative impulse does the term make define a condition of empathy between the external and the internal events. #Quote by Ansel Adams
Photographer quotes by Garry Winogrand
#41. Photos have no narrative content. They only describe light on surface. #Quote by Garry Winogrand

Photography is still a very new medium and everything is allowed and everything should be tried and dared ... Photography has no rules. It is not a sport. It is the result which counts, no matter how it was achieved. #Quote by Bill Brandt

Photographer quotes by Minor White
#52. Insight, vision, moments of revelation. During those rare moments something overtakes the man and he becomes the tool of a greater Force; the servant of, willing or unwilling depending on his degree of awakeness. The photograph, then, is a message more than a mirror, and the mans a messenger who happens to be a photographer. #Quote by Minor White
Photographer quotes by Naomi Campbell
#53. I do feel that I'm talking to someone who's in a totally different place from where I was when I started modeling. I was fortunate enough to have the wonderful designers and amazing photographers around me, and editors that I knew, and if I wanted to ask a question, I asked them. So that gap has broadened a bit. #Quote by Naomi Campbell
Photographer quotes by Ernst Haas
#54. The best pictures differentiate themselves by nuances ... a tiny relationship - either a harmony or a disharmony - that creates a picture. #Quote by Ernst Haas
Photographer quotes by Caleb Deschanel
#55. The great photographers of life - like Diane Arbus and Walker Evans and Robert Frank - all must have had some special quality: a personality of nurturing and non-judgment that frees the subjects to reveal their most intimate reality. It really is what makes a great photographer, every bit as much as understanding composition and lighting. #Quote by Caleb Deschanel
Photographer quotes by Ralph Gibson
#56. One night I was on my [Navy] ship ... on my first cruise crossing the North Atlantic in a horrible storm, chained to the rails so I wouldn't fall overboard. It was as big an epiphany as any man ever had. #Quote by Ralph Gibson

#62. Edward counseled that a photograph of consequence could be made from just about anything. Subject matter, in itself, was not critical. The understanding of the photographer was. #Quote by Mary Street Alinder
Photographer quotes by Evan Dara
#63. ...And all the while, accompanying my every step, The Photographer is sounding in my head, purling incessantly through my clamped-on Walkman; it's a good piece, Glass's homage to Muybridge, minimalism used to maximal effect: with its repeating rhythms, endlessly rechurning, the music resembles a wave that doesn't move, a standing wave; that's what you listen to, the change and unchange of the wave, not any emergent melody: listening not above, but within; #Quote by Evan Dara
Photographer quotes by John Paul Caponigro
#64. Photographs are never records of the way things are; they're records of the way things were. #Quote by John Paul Caponigro

Photographer quotes by Paul Strand
#66. The documentary photographer aims his camera at the real world to record truthfulness. At the same time, he must strive for form, to devise effective ways of organizing and using the material. For content and form are interrelated. The problems presented by content and form must be so developed that the result is fundimentally [sic] true to the realities of life as we know it. The chief problem is to find a form that adequately represents the reality. #Quote by Paul Strand

#67. I do what I feel, that's all. I am an ordinary photographer working for his own pleasure. That's all I've ever done. #Quote by Andre Kertesz
Photographer quotes by Louise Wilson
#69. Many students don't really like it (fashion). If they don't like it, they won't be able to tell you who the stylists are or the photographers. If they say they can't remember the names but they recognize the work, I'll say that's bullshit because if you were selling mobile phones, you'd know all about the phones' features and tariffs. #Quote by Louise Wilson
Photographer quotes by Nikki Ziering
#70. I was studying to be a dental hygienist and working as a dental assistant. I met a photographer and decided to put my job on hold for just a summer to begin modeling. #Quote by Nikki Ziering
Photographer quotes by Sally Mann
#71. There's always a time in any series of work where you get to a certain point and your work is going steadily and each picture is better than the next, and then you sort of level off and that's when you realize that it's not that each picture is better then the next, it's that each picture up's the ante. And that every time you take one good picture, the next one has got to be better. #Quote by Sally Mann

#73. When one photographer edged too close to the wolves, tirelessly dogging McIntyre for the best place to perch his bazooka-size lens I could see daggers in the eyes of the vvolunteers. But McIntyre was welcoming. Some individuals, her told me, could move freely about the valley; others were ruthlessly punished, chased off, or worse. He was talking about wolves. #Quote by Joe Roman

Photographer quotes by Henri Cartier-Bresson
#78. I believe that, through the act of living, the discovery of oneself is made concurrently with the discovery of the world around us, which can mold us, but which can also be affected by us. A balance must be established between these two worlds - the one inside us and the one outside us. #Quote by Henri Cartier-Bresson

Photographer quotes by S.S. Lorenzo
#89. A Photographer's Poem

To take a photograph is to learn new steps
Like a toddler's first walk from start to end
Visualize a dream, a paradigm, a theme
It could be about anywhere, anyone, any moment or anything
Let that sink in until your eyes see clearly
What image you cease to create to preserve in dearly
With a camera you take the picture in mind
A photographer's mistake is to leave it behind
Take it wherever a journey is to take place
There will always be something that comes across your ways #Quote by S.S. Lorenzo
Photographer quotes by Paul Caponigro
#90. Photography is not easy. You know it takes a painter or a sculpture or a musician years to perfect their technique. Then they're free to make an expression in a matter of moments. It takes moments for a photographer to perfect his technique. And then it takes years for him to make it into something that is truly creative and worthwhile. #Quote by Paul Caponigro
Photographer quotes by Ari Marcopoulos
#91. As my sons went into teenagehood, they started to look like some of the groups of people that I had photographed previously. They started to become like my old subjects. As if, as a photographer, you come around to the same visual points. #Quote by Ari Marcopoulos
Photographer quotes by Henri Cartier-Bresson
#92. Photographers deal in things which are continually vanishing and when they have vanished there is no contrivance on earth which can make them come back again. #Quote by Henri Cartier-Bresson
Photographer quotes by Salman Rushdie
#93. Eventually, the photographer had tried to catch her unawares, but she seized his camera and broke it over his skull. Fortunately, he lived; but there are no photographs of my grandmother anywhere on the earth. She was not one to be trapped in anyone's little black box. It was enough for her that she must live in unveiled, barefaced shamelessness - there was no question of allowing the fact to be recorded. #Quote by Salman Rushdie
Photographer quotes by John Sexton
#94. A photographer needs to be a good editor of negatives and prints! In fact, most of the prints I make are for my eyes only, and they are no good. I find the single most valuable tool in the darkroom is my trash can - that's where most of my prints end up. #Quote by John Sexton
Photographer quotes by Sam Abell
#95. I wanted life to be episodic. I wanted to be a magazine photographer and I was willing to do what it took to become that. #Quote by Sam Abell

Photographer quotes by Annie Leibovitz
#97. I've said about a million times that the best thing a young photographer can do is to stay close to home. Start with your friends and family, the people who will put up with you. Discover what it means to be close to your work, to be intimate with a subject. Measure the difference between that and working with someone you don't know as much about. Of course there are many good photographs that have nothing to do with staying close to home, and I guess what I'm really saying is that you should take pictures of something that has meaning for you #Quote by Annie Leibovitz
Photographer quotes by John Paul Caponigro
#98. All photographs are about light. The great majority of photographs record light as a way of describing objects in space. A few photographs are less about objects and more about the space that contains them. Still fewer photographs are about light itself. #Quote by John Paul Caponigro
Photographer quotes by Henri Cartier-Bresson
#99. I'm always amused by the idea that certain people have about technique, which translate into an immoderate taste for the sharpness of the image. It is a passion for detail, for perfection, or do they hope to get closer to reality with this trompe I'oeil? They are, by the way, as far away from the real issues as other generations of photographers were when they obscured their subject in soft-focus effects. #Quote by Henri Cartier-Bresson
Photographer quotes by Elliott Erwitt
#100. I like things that have to do with what is real, elegant, well presented and without excessive style. In other words, just fine observation. #Quote by Elliott Erwitt

Photographer quotes by William Wegman
#107. When I first started making photo pieces it wasn't with the idea of a commitment to the medium. I didn't think I would have to become a photographer to make my photographs. I recall that anything could be used as material for art in that era. Photography was just one more thing. #Quote by William Wegman
Photographer quotes by Jay Maisel
#108. As you see something that yo want to shot and it's bearing down on you, it's important to start framing long before the subject gets close to you. The light will reveal itself possibly long before you want to take the image, but you have to wait until the picture comes to you, and if you've been anticipating carefully when the subject will be in position, the background will have been figured out in advance. #Quote by Jay Maisel
Photographer quotes by Joel Meyerowitz
#109. We think of photography as pictures. And it is. But I think of photography as ideas. And do the pictures sustain your ideas or are they just good pictures? I want to have an experience in the world that is a deepening experience, that makes me feel alive and awake and conscious. #Quote by Joel Meyerowitz
Photographer quotes by Edwin Land
#110. The process must be concealed from - non-existent for - the photographer, who by definition need think of the art in the taking and not in the making photographs ... In short, all that should be necessary to get a good picture is to take a good picture. #Quote by Edwin Land
Photographer quotes by David LaChapelle
#111. I didn't see any difference between being a photographer or being an artist. I didn't make those boundaries. If someone wants to think it's art, that's great, but I'll let history decide. #Quote by David LaChapelle
Photographer quotes by Andreas Feininger
#112. The photographer has almost as much control over his subject matter as a painter. He can control light and shade, form and space, pattern and texture, motion and mood, everything except composition. #Quote by Andreas Feininger
Photographer quotes by Yudhanjaya Wijeratne
#113. I have always loved being behind the camera. I love how it sets you apart in a crowd, so that you can float at the edges, pausing only occasionally to capture a moment.
In its own way it's easier than writing. As a writer, I have to know people, to talk to them, to barge into silences with a dozen of those little lighthearted quips that lead up to a conversation. And even then, they're guarded around you. Nobody wants their drunken conversation written down somewhere.
Being a photographer is different. People come to you. They smile. They flirt. They make sure you see only their best side. Nobody wants to upset the camera. #Quote by Yudhanjaya Wijeratne
Photographer quotes by Chuck Close
#114. The first thing I do is take Polaroids of the sitter - 10 or 12 color Polaroids and eight or 10 black-and whites. #Quote by Chuck Close

Photographer quotes by Haruki Murakami
#121. The photographer from the magazine, Masao Kageyama, would ride along in the van that accompanied me. He'd take pictures as they drove along. It wasn't a real race, and there weren't any water stations, so I'd occasionally stop to get water from the van. The Greek summer is truly brutal, and I knew I'd have to be careful not to get dehydrated.
"Mr. Murakami," Mr. Kageyama said, surprised as he saw me getting ready to run, "you're not really thinking of running the whole route, are you?"
"Of course I am. That's why I came here."
"Really? But when we do these kinds of projects most people don't go all the way. We just take some photos, and most of them don't finish the whole route. So you really are going to run the
entire thing?"
Sometimes the world baffles me. I can't believe that people would really do things like that. #Quote by Haruki Murakami
Photographer quotes by Paul Caponigro
#122. Can you keep your balance? Can you see what and where you are at any given moment? #Quote by Paul Caponigro
Photographer quotes by Isabel Allende
#123. Like my maestro, Juan Ribero, she believed that photography and painting are not competing arts but basically different: the painter interpets reality, and the camera captures it. In the former everything is fiction, while the second is the sum of the real plus the sensibility of the photographer. Ribero never allowed me sentimental or exhibitionist tricks-none of this arranging objects or models to look like paintings. He was the enemy of artificial compostion; he did not let me manipulate negatives or prints, and in general he scorned effects of spots or diffuse lighting: he wanted the honest and simple image, although clear in the most minute details. #Quote by Isabel Allende
Photographer quotes by John Sexton
#124. Having photographed the landscape for a number of years and specifically working with trees and in the forest I found, without consciously thinking about it, that it was a great learning experience for me in terms of organizing elements. #Quote by John Sexton
Photographer quotes by Biju Karakkonam, Nature And Wildlife Photographer
#125. Life is beautiful, not for everyone. #Quote by Biju Karakkonam, Nature And Wildlife Photographer
Photographer quotes by Lynsey Addario
#126. The truth was, the difference between a studio photographer and a photojournalist was the same as the difference between a political cartoonist and an abstract painter; the only thing the two had in common was the blank page. #Quote by Lynsey Addario
Photographer quotes by Ronald Reagan
#127. I like photographers-you don't ask questions. #Quote by Ronald Reagan
Photographer quotes by W. Eugene Smith
#128. I am constantly torn between the attitude of the conscientious journalist who is a recorder and interpreter of the facts and of the creative artist who often is necessarily at poetic odds with the literal facts. #Quote by W. Eugene Smith
Photographer quotes by Cornell Capa
#129. One thing that Life and I agreed right from the start was that one war photographer was enough for my family; I was to be a photographer of peace. #Quote by Cornell Capa
Photographer quotes by W. Eugene Smith
#130. An artist must be ruthlessly selfish. #Quote by W. Eugene Smith
Photographer quotes by Neil Young
#131. One of my favorite album covers is On the Beach. Of course that was the name of a movie and I stole it for my record, but that doesn't matter. The idea for that cover came like a bolt from the blue. Gary and I traveled around getting all the pieces to put it together. We went to a junkyard in Santa Ana to get the tail fin and fender from a 1959 Cadillac, complete with taillights, and watched them cut it off a Cadillac for us, then we went to a patio supply place to get the umbrella and table. We picke up the bad polyester yellow jacket and white pants at a sleazy men's shop, where we watched a shoplifter getting caught red-handed and busted. Gary and I were stoned on some dynamite weed and stood there dumbfounded watching the bust unfold. This girl was screaming and kicking! Finally we grabbed a local LA paper to use as a prop. It had this amazing headline: Sen. Buckley Calls For Nixon to Resign. Next we took the palm tree I had taken around the world on the Tonight's the Night tour. We then placed all of these pieces carefully in the sand at Santa Monica beach. Then we shot it. Bob Seidemann was the photographer, the same one who took the famous Blind Faith cover shot of the naked young girl holding the airplane. We used the crazy pattern from the umbrella insides for the inside of the sleeve that held the vinyl recording. That was the creative process at work. We lived for that, Gary and I, and we still do. #Quote by Neil Young
Photographer quotes by Steve McCurry
#132. We photographers say that we take a picture, and in a certain sense, that is true. We take something from people's lives, but in doing so we tell their story. #Quote by Steve McCurry
Photographer quotes by Casey McQuiston
#133. It's not one of the posed shots- it's one he didn't even realize had been taken, one he definitely didn't think would be released. He should have given the photographer more credit. He managed to capture the moment right when Henry cracked a joke, a candid, genuine photo, completely caught up in each other, Henry's arm around him and his own hand reaching up to grasp for Henry's on his shoulder.

The way Henry's looking at him in the picture is so affectionate, so openly loving, that seeing it from a third person perspective almost makes Alex want to look away, like he's staring into the sun. He called Henry the North Star once. That wasn't bright enough. #Quote by Casey McQuiston
Photographer quotes by Avijeet Das
#134. If an actor or a writer or a singer or a dancer or a photographer or an artist has more followers then does that mean that they are better in their craft? Why does the audience get attracted to those artists who have more followers? Why does the audience not give struggling artists their due recognition?

Because of money, clout, and nepotism these priveleged people occupy the center of the stage in every event and walk of life. And thus talented people are sidelined and they get thrown out of the stage.

When will the audience support the struggling and talented artists? After their death in most cases. #Quote by Avijeet Das
Photographer quotes by Galen Rowell
#135. Often when I walked alone in the mountains, I tried to make sense out of the two halves of my life. What went on in the city during the week seemed chaotic and unrelated to the events in my mountain world. #Quote by Galen Rowell
Photographer quotes by John Sexton
#136. So when I became interested in photography and further being inspired by the work that I saw of Ansel and others, it was a natural extension to go back to these places that I knew as a kid and explore them with my camera. #Quote by John Sexton
Photographer quotes by Edward Steichen
#137. Every other artist begins with a blank canvas, a piece of paper the photographer begins with the finished product. #Quote by Edward Steichen
Photographer quotes by Lola Alvarez Bravo

Photographer quotes by Lindsey Kelk
#139. Al: Now, remind me, who's walking who down the aisle again? #Quote by Lindsey Kelk
Photographer quotes by Bill Jay
#140. If there is a single factor which separates the best photographers from the wannabes it is the quantity of images which they produce. They seem to be forever shooting. I have watched many of them as they take picture after picture even when they are not photographing. [ ... ] Often these intimate images do not look as though they were taken by the same photographer. And that is their fascination and charm. #Quote by Bill Jay
Photographer quotes by Robert Doisneau
#141. The photographer must be absorbent - like a blotter, allow himself to be permeated by the poetic moment ... His technique should be like an animal function ... he should act automatically. #Quote by Robert Doisneau
Photographer quotes by Elliot Erwitt

Photographer quotes by Michael Bergin
#146. I guess that's what I was: a set of abs. And they lit the abs and shot the abs and sent the abs on their way. The photographer didn't look at my face once. I was humiliated. #Quote by Michael Bergin
Photographer quotes by Lauren Greenfield
#147. I've been a documentary photographer for much longer than I have been a filmmaker. #Quote by Lauren Greenfield
Photographer quotes by Beaumont Newhall
#148. More and more are turning to photography as a medium of expression as well as communication. The leavening of aesthetic approaches continues. While it is too soon to define the characteristic of the photographic style today, one common denominator, rooted in tradition, seems in the ascendancy. The direct use of the camera for what it can do best, and that is the revelation, interpretation, and discovery of the world of man and of nature. The greatest challenge to the photographer is to express the inner significance through the outward form. #Quote by Beaumont Newhall
Photographer quotes by Guido Palau
#149. I'm very lucky that I've worked mainly with two amazing photographers in David Sims and Steven Meisel. #Quote by Guido Palau
Photographer quotes by Stephen Shore
#150. I was photographing every meal I ate, every person I met, every waiter or waitress who served me, every bed I slept in, every toilet I used. #Quote by Stephen Shore
Photographer quotes by Sylvia Plath
#151. When they asked me what I wanted to be I said I didn't know.
"Oh, sure you know," the photographer said.
"She wants," said Jay Cee wittily, "to be everything. #Quote by Sylvia Plath
Photographer quotes by Andreas Feininger
#152. Light is the photographic medium par excellence; it is to the photographer what words are to the writer; color and paint to the painter; wood, metal, stone, or clay to the sculptor. #Quote by Andreas Feininger
Photographer quotes by Michael Kenna
#153. Nothing is ever the same twice because everything is always gone forever, and yet each moment has infinite photographic possibilities. #Quote by Michael Kenna
Photographer quotes by Roopal Patel
#154. There weren't paparazzi standing outside. There weren't all these photographers. People really didn't know what fashion was and what was happening in the tents. #Quote by Roopal Patel
Photographer quotes by Don McCullin
#155. Many people send me letters in England saying, 'I want to be a war photographer,' and I say, go out into the community that you live in. There's wars going on out there; you don't have to go halfway around the world on an airplane where there are bombs and shells. There are social wars that are worthwhile. #Quote by Don McCullin
Photographer quotes by Peter Menzel
#156. I have a completely worthless degree: a BS in Photojournalism from Boston University (BU). With this degree, I suppose I could have gotten a job teaching grade school kids how to photograph their relatives, but knowing about B&W photo processing and developing and how to shoot a picture story is good basic info that every photographer should have. #Quote by Peter Menzel
Photographer quotes by Bill Jay
#157. Evolution in action: First, God said, 'Let there be light.' Then, he created two nude models. Now we have photographers. #Quote by Bill Jay
Photographer quotes by Andy Warhol
#158. The pop artists did images that anybody walking down Broadway could recognize in a split second - comics, picnic tables, men's trousers, celebrities, shower curtains, refrigerators, Coke bottles. All the great modern things that the Abstract Expressionists tried not to notice at all. #Quote by Andy Warhol
Photographer quotes by Julia Ormond
#159. I have a really hard time stepping out of a limousine and confronting a sh*tload of photographers who are all screaming at you, because it's like saying, 'yeah, yeah, here I am!' #Quote by Julia Ormond
Photographer quotes by Anne Geddes
#160. I have a deep love and respect for children and I cannot imagine photographic life without them playing a major part. I hope that through my work as a photographer, I have been able to pass on my appreciation of their beauty and charm. #Quote by Anne Geddes
Photographer quotes by Mia Wasikowska
#161. Yes, a lot of European cinema and a lot of independent films and art-house stuff. She is a photographer. She is a visual artist and photographer and my dad is, too. My mum, I must credit for showing me good films. With my career, my parents were great and though they were a little wary, maybe, of the acting ambitions they have always been supportive. #Quote by Mia Wasikowska
Photographer quotes by Derek Ridgers
#162. I started out, in the mid-'70s, taking photographs of rock bands that I liked but not because I really wanted to photograph them. Initially, I was pretending to be a photographer, simply so that I could go up to the front of the crowd and be a bit closer to the bands. But, I found I was gradually developing an interest in the photos I took. #Quote by Derek Ridgers
Photographer quotes by Christine Feehan
#163. Why do I have to do this?" Gator demanded.
Cuz you're such a pretty boy. Our photographer isn't going to fall for one of us as the tied up model," Nico pointed out.
Dumbest plan you've ever come up with," Gator rumbled. "Offering myself all trussed up like a Christmas turkey to a serial killer who likes to torture people isn't too smart. #Quote by Christine Feehan
Photographer quotes by Annie Leibovitz
#164. My hope is that we continue to nurture the places that we love, but that we also look outside our immediate worlds. #Quote by Annie Leibovitz
Photographer quotes by Joe McNally
#165. We make pictures. At the end of the day, we create something potentially significant that did not exist at the beginning of the day. We go forward, despite the uncertainty. Because this is an act of love and passion, which defies reason and prudence. #Quote by Joe McNally
Photographer quotes by Ori Gersht
#166. For a short time I was an assistant to a professional photographer, and I felt that my soul was not there. That is the stage when I decided to stay in London and do a graduate degree. #Quote by Ori Gersht

Photographer quotes by Bill Jay
#168. The best way for photographers to become rich and famous is to go into another field. #Quote by Bill Jay
Photographer quotes by John Paul Caponigro
#169. We're responsible for everything that's included in the frame. We're also responsible for what's not included in the frame. We're responsible for the way we frame the world. #Quote by John Paul Caponigro
Photographer quotes by Cris Mazza
#170. In college, unable to be "special" - or in demand - as a girl, I made myself useful, even essential, in my microcosm - as a writer and photographer for the band, particularly for the band director. My "specialness" was to produce something of value, not to look like something (with that different kind of "value"), so I was still fundamentally invisible, but had a significant purpose. #Quote by Cris Mazza
Photographer quotes by Jacques-Henri Lartigue
#171. The golden rule is work fast. As for framing, composition, focus-this is no time to start asking yourself questions: you just have to trust your intuition and the sharpness of your reflexes. #Quote by Jacques-Henri Lartigue
Photographer quotes by Berenice Abbott
#172. I am so fascinated with this century it will help keep me alive. I'll be there until the last minute, fighting. #Quote by Berenice Abbott
Photographer quotes by Susan Sontag
#173. Like the collector, the photographer is animated by a passion that, even when it appears to be for the present, is linked to a sense of the past. #Quote by Susan Sontag
Photographer quotes by Ernst Haas
#174. We can write the new chapters in a visual language whose prose and poetry will need no translation. #Quote by Ernst Haas
Photographer quotes by Saul Leiter
#175. My family was very unhappy about my becoming a photographer - profoundly and deeply unhappy. #Quote by Saul Leiter
Photographer quotes by Cindy Margolis
#176. A good photographer can make you look incredible, even when you're not feeling very sexy. #Quote by Cindy Margolis
Photographer quotes by Frederick Sommer
#177. The coherent way of investigating any field is to examine its possible relatedness to other things. #Quote by Frederick Sommer
Photographer quotes by Roland Barthes
#178. In terms of image-repertoire, the Photographer (the one I intend) represents that very subtle moment when, to tell the truth, I am neither subject nor object but a subject who feels he is becoming an object: I then experience a micro-version of death. #Quote by Roland Barthes
Photographer quotes by Arthur Tress
#179. Photography has an amazing ability to capture the fine detail of surface textures. But far too often these intricate patterns are loved by the photographer for their own sake. The richness of texture fascinates the eye and the photographer falls easy prey to such quickly-caught complexities. The designs mean nothing in themselves and are merely pictorially attractive abstractions. A central problem in contemporary photography is to bring about a wider significance in purely textural imagery. #Quote by Arthur Tress
Photographer quotes by John Sexton
#180. Obviously, we can see what was in front of the camera, but if a photograph is honestly made, it's a bit of a self-portrait. I think it's impossible for a photographer who is working honestly to keep this from happening. #Quote by John Sexton
Photographer quotes by Ralph Waldo Emerson
#181. "Do not call yourself an "artist-photographer" and make "artist-painters" and "artist-sculptors" laugh; call yourself a photographer and wait for artists to call you brother." #Quote by Ralph Waldo Emerson
Photographer quotes by Diane Arbus
#182. I work from awkwardness. By that I mean I don't like to arrange things. If I stand in front of something, instead of arranging it, I arrange myself. #Quote by Diane Arbus
Photographer quotes by Jeff Koons
#183. The entertainment industry, the advertising industry have taken [the] tools from the art world and made themselves much more politically potent. We are really devastated and very impotent right now. A photographer just working for an advertising company has a platform to be much more politically effective in the world than an artist. #Quote by Jeff Koons
Photographer quotes by Sarah Kay
#184. people used to tell me that i had beautiful hands
told me so often, in fact, that one day i started to believe them until i asked my photographer father, "hey daddy could i be a hand model"

to which he said no way,

i dont remember the reason he gave me and i wouldve been upset,

but there were far too many stuffed animals to hold
too many homework assignment to write,
too many boys to wave at
too many years to grow,

we used to have a game, my dad and i about holding hands cus we held hands everywhere, and every time either he or i would whisper a great
big number to the other, pretending that we were keeping track of how many times we had held hands that we were sure, this one had to be 8 million 2 thousand 7 hundred and fifty three.

hands learn more than minds do,
hands learn how to hold other hands,
how to grip pencils and mold poetry,
how to tickle pianos and dribble a basketball,
and grip the handles of a bicycle
how to hold old people, and touch babies ,
i love hands like i love people,

they're the maps and compasses in which we navigate our way through life, some people read palms to tell your future,

but i read hands to tell your past,
each scar marks the story worth telling,
each calloused palm,
each cracked knuckle is a missed punch
or years in a factory,

now ive seen middle eastern hands cl #Quote by Sarah Kay
Photographer quotes by Alexa Chung
#185. I get to work with great photographers, wear lovely clothes, be part of the creative process. #Quote by Alexa Chung
Photographer quotes by Bill Jay
#186. I seem to walk in the world as two people. The normal everyday-me is as preoccupied, unobservant and oblivious to visual clues as I ever was. Then there is the photographer-me, the one who has a camera in hand and a specific project in mind, and then the world suddenly jumps to life with potential pictures, as if a switch had been thrown in my brain and a different person is looking out of the same eyes. #Quote by Bill Jay
Photographer quotes by Lynne Tillman
#187. The desire to catch, as Bonnard hoped, the PASSING MOMENT is antithetical to being in the moment. The photographer is an observer to others' moments. The Picture People have dedicated themselves to this paradox, and consign themselves on either side of the equation. #Quote by Lynne Tillman
Photographer quotes by Burk Uzzle
#188. After all these years of wandering around as a street photographer and a journalist, I decided that this world is such a curious, screwed up place so full of contradictions ... that I couldn't look at it any more in the raw form without trying to find some way of balancing it in a more philosophical context - less in a reportorial manner and more in an artistic one. #Quote by Burk Uzzle
Photographer quotes by Joel Meyerowitz
#189. Then I thought, Whoa. If there are no photographs, then there is no history. I'm going to get in there. I'm going to make these pictures. We need a record. #Quote by Joel Meyerowitz
Photographer quotes by Abigail Spencer
#190. I love photography. Photographers and photos. I took a ton of pictures in Paris, and I find that I'm most inspired by following other photographers on Instagram. #Quote by Abigail Spencer
Photographer quotes by Lynsey Addario
#191. As a photographer who is constantly in violent, bloody situations where the instinct is to turn away, I am always trying to figure out how to make people not turn away. #Quote by Lynsey Addario
Photographer quotes by Katie MacAlister
#192. Gunner Ainslie made a face at his sister-in-law. "'Amateur' is a bit rough, Alice. I took a degree in archaeology, after all."
She looked even more confused. "Then why are you a photographer now instead of an archaeologist?"
"Because he didn't want to be a burden to the estate like all my other siblings," his brother Elliott, the current Baron Ainslie, answered, giving his wife a squeeze. "Or so he said. Frankly, I think it was a cover so he could take pictures of unclothed women. #Quote by Katie MacAlister
Photographer quotes by William Eggleston
#193. We have a few things in common - smoking, drinking, and women. Photography just gets us out of the house. (To photographer Juergen Teller) #Quote by William Eggleston
Photographer quotes by Mario Sorrenti
#194. You should be constantly asking yourself: What do I want to say next? What do I believe in? Who am I? What is my image? To be a successful photographer, you have to have a unique point of view otherwise you'll get lost in the mix. #Quote by Mario Sorrenti
Photographer quotes by Sally Mann
#195. I wish I could be a better writer, but writing is so difficult. I get seduced by visual aesthetics. Because I just like making beautiful pictures, sometimes I wander away from making a clear statement. #Quote by Sally Mann
Photographer quotes by Beat Streuli
#196. I don't see myself as a documentary photographer. I am more drawn to the image itself, rather than to the description of a scene. And, anyway, every image only halfway represents reality, whereas the other half is rather, more or less, fulfilling our imagination. #Quote by Beat Streuli
Photographer quotes by Helen Thomas
#197. Everyone with a cell phone thinks they're a photographer. Everyone with a laptop thinks they're a journalist. But they have no training, and they have no idea of what we keep to in terms of standards, as in what's far out and what's reality. And they have no dedication to truth. #Quote by Helen Thomas
Photographer quotes by John Sexton
#198. In 1979, I received a phone call from Ansel Adams asking me if I would be willing to consider coming to work for him. I was teaching photography in Southern California at that point. #Quote by John Sexton
Photographer quotes by Jay Maisel
#199. There are rules about perception, but not about photography. #Quote by Jay Maisel
Photographer quotes by Eve Arnold
#200. If the chemistry is right between star and photographer and the geometry of the pictures pleases the star, often the two people end up with a long-term professional friendship during which they continue to work together and to produce highly personal images. #Quote by Eve Arnold
