Period quotes by Ilona Andrews
#1. By the way," Arabella said, "you might get a call from school. I forgot to mention it before."
Mother paused. "Why?"
"Well, we were playing basketball and I guess I pulled on Diego's jersey. I don't even remember doing it. And Valerie decided it would be a good idea to snitch on me. I mean, I saw her walk over to the coach and pull on his sleeve like she was five or something. I even asked Diego if he cared, and he said he didn't even notice. It's a sport! I was into it."
"Aha," Mother said. "Get to the call-from-school part."
"I told her that snitches get stitches. And Coach said that I made a terrorist threat."
"That's stupid," Lina said, pushing back her dark hair. "It's not a threat, it's just a thing people say."
"Snitches do get stitches." Bern shrugged.
"Your school is stupid," Grandma Frida said.
"So he said I had to apologize and I refused, since she snitched on me, so I got sent to the office. I'm not in trouble, but they want to move me to third-period PE now."
Well, it could've been worse. At least she didn't hurt anybody. #Quote by Ilona Andrews
Period quotes by Emil M. Cioran
#2. If death is as horrible as is claimed, how is it that after the passage of a certain period of time we consider happy any being, friend or enemy, who has ceased to live? #Quote by Emil M. Cioran
Period quotes by Gary Larson
#3. Humans have changed ecosystems more rapidly and extensively than in any comparable period of time in human history, largely to meet rapidly growing demands for food, fresh water, timber, fiber and fuel. This has resulted in a substantial and largely irreversible loss in the diversity of life on Earth. #Quote by Gary Larson
Period quotes by Heather O'Neill
#4. Being a woman was a trap. Something would bring you down before you were twenty-three. The only time the world shows you any favor, or cuts you any slack, is during that very brief period of courtship where the world is trying to fuck you for the first time. #Quote by Heather O'Neill
Period quotes by Robert Fulghum
#5. Water is everywhere and in all living things; we cannot be seperated from water. No water, no life. Period. Water comes in many forms - liquid, vapor, ice, snow, fog, rain, hail. But no matter the form, it's still water. #Quote by Robert Fulghum
Period quotes by Francis Bacon
#6. Nevertheless if any skillful Servant of Nature shall bring force to bear on matter, and shall vex it and drive it to extremities as if with the purpose of reducing it to nothing, then will matter (since annihilation or true destruction is not possible except by the omnipotence of God) finding itself in these straits, turn and transform itself into strange shapes, passing from one change to another till it has gone through the whole circle and finished the period. #Quote by Francis Bacon
Period quotes by Karthikeyan V
#7. One day is not enough to watch a tree, one life is not enough to love a tree.
I wonder when i see a new leaf, it was like a new born baby come and meet the world; I feel great to see a plant bearing fruits, it was like a mother carrying her child during her pregnancy period #Quote by Karthikeyan V
Period quotes by Elizabeth Stuart Phelps Ward
#8. The Girl of the Period, sauntering before one down Broadway, is one panorama of awful surprises from top to toe. Her clothes characterize her. She never characterizes her clothes. She is upholstered, not ornamented. She is bundled, not draped. She is puckered, not folded. She struts, she does not sweep. She has not one of the attributes of nature nor of proper art. She neither soothes the eye like a flower, nor pleases it like a picture. She wearies it like a kaleidoscope. She is a meaningless dazzle of broken effects. #Quote by Elizabeth Stuart Phelps Ward
Period quotes by Marcel Proust
#9. Alexis had entered that ardent period in which the body labors so robustly at raising its palaces between the flesh and the soul that the soul quickly seems to have vanished, until the day when illness or sorrow has slowly undermined the barriers and transcended the painful fissure, allowing the soul to reappear. #Quote by Marcel Proust
Period quotes by Marilynne Robinson
#10. So, we have an element newly prominent in American religious and political life, a new form of entitlement, a self-declared elect. What some have seen as a resurgence of Christianity, or at least a bold defense of American cultural tradition - even as another great awakening! - has brought a harshness, a bitterness, a crudeness, and a high-handedness into the public sphere that are only to be compared to the politics, or the collapse of politics, in the period before the Civil War. Its self-righteousness fuels the damnedest things - I use the word advisedly - notably the acquisition of homicidal weapons. I wonder what these supposed biblicists find in the Gospels or the Epistles that could begin to excuse any of it. #Quote by Marilynne Robinson
Period quotes by Hirokazu Koreeda
#11. I don't believe in making movies to cater to a foreign audience. You never know what the reaction is going to be anyhow. At the time I made Maborosi, the Japanese movies getting any foreign attention were all period dramas and seemed to be about some representative element of Japanese life, and my movie was contemporary movie about one specific woman trying to understand her husband's suicide. #Quote by Hirokazu Koreeda
Period quotes by Michael Douglas
#12. All the pictures I do are contemporary. I've sort of discovered I haven't really been into science fiction or period pictures. And so, in that vein, psychological thrillers play a big part. #Quote by Michael Douglas
Period quotes by Cameron C. Taylor
#13. So often we look for a magic secret or new technique that will produce tremendous returns and results with little or no work. Those seeking this magic secret will never find it - for the secret to success is to continually live and apply basic, simple fundamentals over a long period of time. #Quote by Cameron C. Taylor
Period quotes by Francois Truffaut
#14. There are two kinds of directors; those who have the public in mind when they conceive and make their films and those who don't consider the public at all. For the former, cinema is an art of spectacle; for the latter, it is an individual adventure. There is nothing intrinsically better about one or the other; it's simply a matter of different approaches. For Hitchcock as for Renoir, as for that matter almost all American directors, a film has not succeeded unless it is a success, that is, unless it touches the public that one has had in mind right from the moment of choosing the subject matter to the end of production. While Bresson, Tati, Rossellini, Ray make films their own way and then invite the public to join the "game," Renoir, Clouzot, Hitchcock and Hawks make movies for the public, and ask themselves all the questions they think will interest their audience. Alfred Hitchcock, who is a remarkably intelligent man, formed the habit early--right from the start of his career in England--of predicting each aspect of his films. All his life he has worked to make his own tastes coincide with the public', emphasizing humor in his English period and suspense in his American period. This dosage of humor and suspense has made Hitchcock one of the most commercial directors in the world (his films regularly bring in four times what they cost). It is the strict demands he makes on himself and on his art that have made him a great director. #Quote by Francois Truffaut
Period quotes by Walter Kirn
#15. I studied English at Princeton in the early eighties in what I consider a period of high obscurity. Professors and students ran around discussing the work of critics and philosophers that I doubt they'd read or understood. #Quote by Walter Kirn
Period quotes by Maria Montessori
#16. Our work is not to teach, but to help the absorbent mind in its work of development. How marvelous it would be if by our help, if by an intelligent treatment of the child, if by understanding the needs of his physical life and by feeding his intellect, we could prolong the period of functioning of the absorbent mind! #Quote by Maria Montessori
Period quotes by William Clay Ford, Jr.
#17. One cannot find a healthy economy anywhere in the world that does not have a strong industrial base, period. #Quote by William Clay Ford, Jr.
Period quotes by Samuel Beckett
#18. But it is useless to dwell on this period of my life. If I go on long enough calling that my life I'll end up by believing it. #Quote by Samuel Beckett
Period quotes by Stephen King
#19. Time, Eddie had decided during this period, was in large part created by external events. When a lot of interesting shit was happening, time seemed to go by fast. If you got stuck with nothing but the usual boring shit, it slowed down. And when everything stopped happening, time apparently quit altogether. Just packed up and went to Coney Island. Weird but true. #Quote by Stephen King
Period quotes by Ambrose Bierce
#20. Childhood: the period of human life intermediate between the idiocy of infancy and the folly of youth - two removes from the sin of manhood and three from the remorse of age. #Quote by Ambrose Bierce
Period quotes by Jack Dunphy
#21. Success is so bad for everybody, period. Especially a certain kind of success, when people practically give up their identity. They forget who they are, how they are. #Quote by Jack Dunphy
Period quotes by John George Nicolay
#22. Lincoln's removal from New Salem to Springfield and his entrance into a law partnership with Major John T. Stuart begin a distinctively new period in his career. #Quote by John George Nicolay
Period quotes by Michel Houellebecq
#23. Adolescence is not only an important period in life, but that it is the only period where one may speak of life in the full sense of the word. The attractile drives are unleashed around the age of thirteen, after which they gradually diminish, or rather they are resolved in models of behaviour which are, after all, only constrained forces. The violence of the initial explosion means that the outcome of the conflict may remain uncertain for years; this is what is called a transitory regime in electrodynamics. But little by little the oscillations become slower, to the point of resolving themselves in mild and melancholic long waves; from this moment on all is decided, and life is nothing more than a preparation for death. This can be expressed in a more brutal and less exact way by saying that man is a diminished adolescent. #Quote by Michel Houellebecq
Period quotes by Sarah Dessen
#24. The health of the people I love is all that really matters in this world. Period. #Quote by Sarah Dessen
Period quotes by Ronald Carter
#25. THE METAPHYSICAL POETS

Had we but world enough, and time,
This coyness, lady, were no crime

(Andrew Marvell, To His Coy Mistress)

While theatre was the most public literary form of the period, poetry tended to be more personal, more private. Indeed, it was often published for only a limited circle of readers. This was true of Shakespeare's sonnets, as we have seen, and even more so for the Metaphysical poets, whose works were published mostly after their deaths. John Donne and George Herbert are the most significant of these poets.
The term 'Metaphysical' was used to describe their work by the eighteenth-century critic, Samuel Johnson. He intended the adjective to be pejorative. He attacked the poets' lack of feeling, their learning, and the surprising range of images and comparisons they used. Donne and Herbert were certainly very innovative poets, but the term 'Metaphysical' is only a label, which is now used to describe the modern impact of their writing. After three centuries of neglect and disdain, the Metaphysical poets have come to be very highly regarded and have been influential in recent British poetry and criticism. They used contemporary scientific discoveries and theories, the topical debates on humanism, faith, and eternity, colloquial speech-based rhythms, and innovative verse forms, to examine the relationship between the individual, his God, and the universe. Their 'conceits', metaphors and images, paradoxes and inte #Quote by Ronald Carter
Period quotes by Martina Hingis
#26. I was never happy that my injuries cut my career short and ultimately forced my decision to step away from tennis. I have enjoyed my time away from the court, a period that has allowed me to experience a different side of life. However, I miss the game and the challenge of competing at the highest level of tennis, and I want to gauge whether I can stay healthy and compete against today's top players. #Quote by Martina Hingis
Period quotes by Jack White
#27. Punk is an attitude, not a genre, age group, or time period. What's interesting is trying to define the blues and punk in different ways. They are very close cousins. #Quote by Jack White
Period quotes by James Howard Kunstler
#28. The human race needs a time out from all this techno-magic-mischief, a period to reflect on what we've done and how we ought to behave with this stuff. #Quote by James Howard Kunstler
Period quotes by Tony Benn
#29. In developing our industrial strategy for the period ahead, we have the benefit of much experience. Almost everything has been tried at least once #Quote by Tony Benn
Period quotes by Hjalmar Branting
#30. But it is possible that, in the days ahead, these years we have lived through may eventually be thought of simply as a period of disturbance and regression. #Quote by Hjalmar Branting
Period quotes by Mark Blyth
#31. The "German problem" after 1970 became how to keep up with the Germans in terms of efficiency and productivity. One way, as above, was to serially devalue, but that was beginning to hurt. The other way was to tie your currency to the deutsche mark and thereby make your price and inflation rate the same as the Germans, which it turned out would also hurt, but in a different way.

The problem with keeping up with the Germans is that German industrial exports have the lowest price elasticities in the world. In plain English, Germany makes really great stuff that everyone wants and will pay more for in comparison to all the alternatives. So when you tie your currency to the deutsche mark, you are making a one-way bet that your industry can be as competitive as the Germans in terms of quality and price. That would be difficult enough if the deutsche mark hadn't been undervalued for most of the postwar period and both German labor costs and inflation rates were lower than average, but unfortunately for everyone else, they were. That gave the German economy the advantage in producing less-than-great stuff too, thereby undercutting competitors in products lower down, as well as higher up the value-added chain. Add to this contemporary German wages, which have seen real declines over the 2000s, and you have an economy that is extremely hard to keep up with. On the other side of this one-way bet were the financial markets. They looked at less dynamic economies, such as the Un #Quote by Mark Blyth
Period quotes by Renee Carlino
#32. Emerson, are you paying attention?"

I sat up straight in my seat. "Yes, sir."

"Okay," Mr. Williams said. "Then tell us, the system we've been talking about this whole class period is called what?"

My heart was racing, and the room started spinning. I hated being called on. I had no idea what the answer was, but then Jackson whispered, "Binomial nomenclature."

It was like he had said, I want to make love to you. That's how Jackson saying "binomial nomenclature" sounded to me.

Mr. Williams was still glaring at me. I pointed my finger to the ceiling and announced, "Binomial nomenclature!"

"So you are paying attention, Emerson. Good," Mr. Williams said. #Quote by Renee Carlino
Period quotes by Jon Meacham
#33. The break was in some ways a sign that Jefferson had transcended the simpler rhetorical categories of the post-1798 period. It was easy to speak theoretically and idealistically about politics when one is seeking power. The demands of exercising it once it is won, however, are so complex and fluid that ideological certitude is often among the first casualties of actual governing. Jefferson had achieved something that his Federalist foes would not have thought possible: He was, to some, no longer Republican enough. Jefferson was, in other words, a man who had displeased the extremes of his day - a sign that he had been guided not by dogma but by principled pragmatism. #Quote by Jon Meacham
Period quotes by Hank Bracker
#34. Glenn Hammond Curtiss was a bicycle enthusiast before he started building motorcycles. Although he only attended grammar school to the 8th grade, his interests motivated him to move on to greater things. In 1904, as a self-taught engineer, he began to manufacture engines for airships. During this time, Curtiss became known for having won a number of international air races and for making the first long-distance flight in the United States. On September 30, 1907, Curtiss was invited to join a non-profit pioneering research program named the "Aerial Experimental Association," founded under the leadership of Dr. Alexander Graham Bell, to develop flying machines. The organization was established having a fixed time period, which ended in March of 1909. During this time, the members produced several different aircraft in a cooperative, rather than a competitive, spirit. #Quote by Hank Bracker
Period quotes by Karen Swallow Prior
#35. Nothing defined the latter half of England's Victorian age more than the way in which Darwin's claims shook the collective faith of Victorian society. The cataclysmic effect of Darwin's ideas on his society is described by historians as a crisis of faith that turned the once-hopeful period into an "age of anxiety" and an "age of doubt." The years surrounding the publication of Darwin's work are the narrow gate through which the age of belief passed into the age of unbelief, not only for England but for the entire Western world within the shockingly brief period of one generation. #Quote by Karen Swallow Prior
Period quotes by Amy Bloom
#36. I find the 1940s very compelling. It is a very excitable period in the U.S. when, whether out of necessity or not, everybody was reinventing themselves. #Quote by Amy Bloom
Period quotes by James Monroe
#37. At no period of our political existence had we so much cause to felicitate ourselves at the prosperous and happy condition of our country. #Quote by James Monroe
Period quotes by Isaac Asimov
#38. You're surrounded by people in the waking period, and you feel their eyes and their hopes on you. You can't stand up under it. In the sleep period, you're free. #Quote by Isaac Asimov
Period quotes by Pat Robertson
#39. Never place a comma where God has placed a period. God has spoken! #Quote by Pat Robertson
Period quotes by Pratheepan Gulasekaram
#40. The 1790 Naturalization law determined that "free white persons" could naturalize after two years of residency, and established that the children of citizens would also be citizens. Soon after, in 1795, Congress extended the residency period to five years, and in 1798 extended the residency requirement even further, to fourteen years. #Quote by Pratheepan Gulasekaram
Period quotes by Stephanie Lahart
#41. #TeamLightSkin vs. #TeamDarkSkin… REALLY, are you serious? To the black females that participate in this garbage, shame on you! Yes, I said it and I won't take it back. After all that we've been through as a race regarding the light-skinned niggers versus the dark-skinned niggers, you're actually keeping this garbage up? It's time to wake up my Beautiful Black Queens! Educate yourself and know your history. This shouldn't be something that we're entertaining. WE are #TeamMelanin! Period. Enough of the foolishness! Respect yourself. Respect our race. We should be building one another up, not tearing each other down. Melanin is Exquisite Beauty in EVERY shade. Together, WE are strong, unstoppable, and powerful. Enough is enough! I encourage you to stop participating in things that keep us divided. Real Talk! #Quote by Stephanie Lahart
Period quotes by Ella Dominguez
#42. After the most amazing head I've ever gotten in my life over the longest period of time imaginable, I climax into Isa's mouth and she drinks me up like what I'm offering is life sustaining. #Quote by Ella Dominguez
Period quotes by Jim Gaffigan
#43. That time period is clearly a season of holidays. A holiday season. No matter what faith you belong to or what tradition you follow, everyone is partying. You're shopping, you're cooking, you're getting together with family, you're eating food that's bad for you, you're eating more food that's bad for you, and of course you're eating food that's bad for you. #Quote by Jim Gaffigan
Period quotes by Leo Tolstoy
#44. Only during a period of war does it become obvious how millions of people can be manipulated. People, millions of people, are filled with pride while doing things which those same people actually consider stupid, evil, dangerous, painful, and criminal, and they strongly criticize these things - but continue doing them. #Quote by Leo Tolstoy
Period quotes by Daniel Kehlmann
#45. One of the points where the art world is at its most metaphysical is in this weird aspect of the power of the expert. There are experts who claim they cannot be fooled because they have an inner connection to an artist and can feel whether something is genuine or fake. I've heard experts say, on panels: When it comes to my period, or my painters, I cannot be fooled. And of course that's completely ridiculous. #Quote by Daniel Kehlmann
Period quotes by Henry Kissinger
#46. New methods of accessing and communicating information unite regions as never before and project events globally - but in a manner that inhibits reflection, demanding of leaders that they register instantaneous reactions in a form expressible in slogans. Are we facing a period in which forces beyond the restraints of any order determine the future? #Quote by Henry Kissinger
Period quotes by Graham Hawkes
#47. There's something just magical about flight. Period. #Quote by Graham Hawkes
Period quotes by Steven Johnson
#48. How could so many intelligent people be so grievously wrong for such an extended period of time? How could they ignore so much overwhelming evidence that contradicted their most basic theories? These questions, too, deserve their own discipline: the sociology of error. #Quote by Steven Johnson
Period quotes by Debbie Macomber
#49. I generally read every night befi=ore I fall asleep: Brad does too. I find it comforting to lie beside my husband, each of us with a book in our hands. I see it as a period of calm and intimacy, and as the perfect metaphor-together, yet individual-for our marriage. #Quote by Debbie Macomber
Period quotes by Drew Gilpin Faust
#50. Americans in the Civil War period were very interested in Heaven and what it might be like, because they were having to face the fact that many of their loved ones were gone and many of their loved ones, they hoped, were in this other realm called Heaven. #Quote by Drew Gilpin Faust
Period quotes by Yukio Mishima
#51. The period of childhood is a stage on which time and space become entangled. #Quote by Yukio Mishima
Period quotes by Adrienne Kress
#52. There are certain bits of stories that, because of their nature, are rather dull. This is because very little happens in them. And for some reason, they also always happen to take place over a rather tediously long period of time. So, yes, I could tell you of the five-hour trek Timothy and Alex took to reach the hidden bay. I could tell you that when they reached the fort, the view was rather impressive. I could also mention that Timothy lost his footing at one point as they made their way through the thick forest on the other side and, had Alex not grabbed the back of his jacket, his tale would have ended there rather abruptly.
But honestly ...
Let's just get to the pirate stuff already. #Quote by Adrienne Kress
Period quotes by Margaret Thatcher
#53. I think we have gone through a period when too many children and people have been given to understand 'I have a problem, it is the government's job to cope with it!' or 'I have a problem, I will go and get a grant to cope with it!'; 'I am homeless, the government must house me!' and so they are casting their problems on society and who is society?
"There is no such thing! There are individual men and women and there are families, and no government can do anything except through people and people look to themselves first.
"It is our duty to look after ourselves and then also to help look after our neighbour and life is a reciprocal business and people have got the entitlements too much in mind without the obligations. #Quote by Margaret Thatcher
Period quotes by Herman Melville
#54. If in some cases a bit of a nautical Murat in setting forth his person ashore, the Handsome Sailor of the period in question evinced nothing of the dandified Billy-be-Dam, an amusing character all but extinct now, but occasionally to be encountered, and in a form yet more amusing than the original, at the tiller of the boats on the tempestuous Erie Canal or, more likely, vaporing in the groggeries along the towpath. #Quote by Herman Melville
Period quotes by Michael Jackson
#55. Because I think every child star suffers through this period because you're not the cute and charming child that you were. You start to grow, and they want to keep you little forever. #Quote by Michael Jackson
Period quotes by Albert Camus
#56. Only the modern city," Hegel dares write, "offers the mind a field in which it can become aware of itself." We are thus living in the period of big cities. Deliberately, the world has been amputated of all that constitutes its permanence: nature, the sea, hilltops, evening meditation. Consciousness is to be found only in the streets, because history is to be found only in the streets - this is the edict. #Quote by Albert Camus
Period quotes by Milton Friedman
#57. You had a flood of immigrants, millions of them, coming to this country. What brought them here? It was the hope for a better life for them and their children. And, in the main, they succeeded. It is hard to find any century in history, in which so large a number of people experience so great an improvement in the conditions of their life, in the opportunities open to them, as in the period of the 19th and early 20th century. #Quote by Milton Friedman
Period quotes by Leo Tolstoy
#58. In youth, the powers of the mind are directed wholly to the future, and that future assumes such various, vivid, and alluring forms under the influence of hope; hope based, not upon the experience of the past, but upon an assumed possibility of happiness to come, that dreams of expected felicity constitute in themselves the true happiness of that period of our life. Only God Himself knows whether those blessed dreams of youth were ridiculous, or whose the fault was that they never became realized. #Quote by Leo Tolstoy
Period quotes by Catherine Brady
#59. It's hard to write sex because it's hard to write desire, period. #Quote by Catherine Brady
Period quotes by Nigel Weiss
#60. Variable behaviour of the sun is an obvious explanation, and there is increasing evidence that Earth's climate responds to changing patterns of solarmagnetic activity ... If you look back into the sun's past, you find that we live in a period of abnormally high solar activity ... It's a boom-bust system, and I would expect a crash soon ... Having a crash would certainly allow us to pin down the sun's true level of influence on the Earth's climate. Then we will be able to act on fact, rather than from fear. #Quote by Nigel Weiss
Period quotes by Alfred North Whitehead
#61. The self-satisfied dogmatism with which mankind at each period of its history cherishes the delusion of the finality of existing modes of knowledge. #Quote by Alfred North Whitehead
Period quotes by David McRaney
#62. Any extended period of negative emotions can lead to you giving in to despair and accepting your fate. If you remain alone for a long time, you will decide loneliness is a fact of life and pass up opportunities to hang out with people. The loss of control in any situation can lead to this state. #Quote by David McRaney
Period quotes by William Hooper
#63. I am proud to find, from two astronomical observations, that Chapel Hill lies right in the orbit of Jupiter and his satellites, and that the period of his revolution is about twelve years. #Quote by William Hooper
Period quotes by Emily Susan Rapp
#64. I don't believe in God, but I do believe in that chaotic reality, and also this: that none of us knows anything about anything. Period. #Quote by Emily Susan Rapp
Period quotes by Barbara Tuchman
#65. The Hundred Years' War, like the crises of the Church in the same period, broke apart medieval unity. #Quote by Barbara Tuchman
Period quotes by Scott Bakula
#66. When you get into any kind of period work, or any kind of prosthetic work, or anything that alters what your 8x10 looks like, it's the joy of escaping and becoming somebody else. And it is definitely freeing. #Quote by Scott Bakula
Period quotes by Michael Crichton
#67. It is especially difficult for modern people to conceive that our modern, scientific age might not be an improvement over the prescientific period. #Quote by Michael Crichton
Period quotes by Jean Cocteau
#68. We are in a period of such individualism that one no longer speaks of disciples; one speaks of thieves. #Quote by Jean Cocteau
Period quotes by Italo Calvino
#69. What is more natural than that a solidity, a complicity, a bond should be established between Reader and Reader, thanks to the book?
You can leave the bookshop content, you, a man who thought that the period where you could still expect something from life had ended. You are bearing with you two different expectations, and both promise days of pleasant hopes; the expectation contained in the book - of a reading experience you are impatient to resume - and the expectation contained in that telephone number - of hearing again the vibrations, a times treble and at times smoldering, of that voice, when it will answer your first phone call in a while, in fact tomorrow, with the fragile pretext of the book, to ask her if she likes it or not, to tell her how many pages you have read or not read, to suggest to her that you meet again ... #Quote by Italo Calvino
Period quotes by Christopher Hitchens
#70. One must state it plainly. Religion comes from the period of human prehistory where nobody - not even the mighty Democritus who concluded that all matter was made from atoms - had the smallest idea what was going on. It comes from the bawling and fearful infancy of our species, and is a babyish attempt to meet our inescapable demand for knowledge (as well as for comfort, reassurance and other infantile needs). Today the least educated of my children knows much more about the natural order than any of the founders of religion, and one would like to think - though the connection is not a fully demonstrable one - that this is why they seem so uninterested in sending fellow humans to hell. #Quote by Christopher Hitchens
Period quotes by Michael Haneke
#71. Because in the feudal system of that period at least 80% of people lived in villages, so it's very simple to get a cross-section of society in a single village. You get the microcosm of the social macrocosm. #Quote by Michael Haneke
Period quotes by Amy Poehler
#72. I would love to do a serious period drama. Oh, absolutely. I mean, you'll find most comedians want to do more serious stuff, most musicians want to be comedians, and most serious actors want to be musicians. #Quote by Amy Poehler
Period quotes by Jamie Muir
#73. The reasons why I left were to do with my interest in Buddhism. There were experiences over a period of about six months which caused me to decide to give up music, so one morning I felt I had to go to E.G. Management and tell them. #Quote by Jamie Muir
Period quotes by Julia Quinn
#74. I'll talk to my mother," she promised. "If I'm sufficiently
annoying, I'm sure I can get the engagement period
cut in half."
"It makes me wonder," he said. "As your future husband,
should I be concerned by your use of the phrase if
I'm sufficiently annoying?"
"Not if you accede to all of my wishes."
"A sentence that concerns me even more," he murmured.
She did nothing but smile. #Quote by Julia Quinn
Period quotes by Mario Testino
#75. I like getting my ideas from the things of now. I am very conscious of the moment, of images that belong to this moment instead of another period. Fashion is really a reflection of our lives. You see women today and they don't do their hair up; they all wear their hair undone. So you have to reflect that in your photography . #Quote by Mario Testino
Period quotes by Lin Yutang
#76. There are no books in this world that everybody must read, but only books that a person must read at a certain time in a given place under given circumstances and at a given period of his life. #Quote by Lin Yutang
Period quotes by Julie McElwain
#77. She shook off her sense of amazement, and tried to pretend she was watching a period play. There was a lot of flirting going on, plenty of fluttering of ivory fans and eyelashes. It was weird to think that in another two hundred years people would flirt by pole dancing, twerking, and sexting. The #Quote by Julie McElwain
Period quotes by Pope Benedict XVI
#78. I believe that it is dangerous for a young person simply to go from achieving goal after goal, generally being praised along the way. So it is good for a young person to experience his limit, occasionally to be dealt with critically, to suffer his way through a period of negativity, to recognise his own limits himself, not simply to win victory after victory. A human being needs to endure something in order to learn to assess himself correctly, and not least to learn to think with others. Period quotes by Leven Rambin
#79. I feel a lot older than I am but at the same time I don't want to play too old on T.V. I still want to be young. I still want to be 20 and enjoy this period of my life where I still have that flexibility. #Quote by Leven Rambin
Period quotes by Martha C. Nussbaum
#80. The fact that a good and virtuous decision is context-sensitive does not imply that it is right only relative to, or inside, a limited context, any more than the fact that a good navigational judgement is sensitive to particular weather conditions shows that it is correct only in a local or relational sense. It is right absolutely, objectively, anywhere in the human world, to attend to the particular features of one's context; and the person who so attends and who chooses accordingly is making, according to Aristotle, the humanly correct decision, period. #Quote by Martha C. Nussbaum

Period quotes by W.E.B. Du Bois
#82. It is not enough for the Negroes to declare that color-prejudice is the sole cause of their social condition, nor for the white South to reply that their social condition is the main cause of prejudice. They both act as reciprocal cause and effect, and a change in neither alone will bring the desired effect. Both must change, or neither can improve to any great extent."(p.88) ... "Only by a union of intelligence and sympathy across the color-line in this critical period of the Republic shall justice and right triumph, #Quote by W.E.B. Du Bois
Period quotes by Jean Shinoda Bolen
#83. When we enter a forest phase in our lives we enter a period of wandering and a time of potential soul growth. Here it is possible to find what we have cut off from, to "remember" a once vital aspect of ourselves. We may uncover a wellspring of creativity that has been hidden for decades. #Quote by Jean Shinoda Bolen
Period quotes by Taylor Swift
#84. If you think about human nature, our favourite pair of shoes are the ones we bought yesterday, our favourite thing is the newest thing that we have ... and the thing we've seen the most and for the longest period of time is our reflection in the mirror, so obviously that's going to be our least favourite thing. #Quote by Taylor Swift
Period quotes by Joseph Campbell
#85. How, in the contemporary period, can we evoke the imagery that communicates the most profound and most richly developed sense of experiencing life? These images must point past themselves to that ultimate truth which must be told: that life does not have one absolutely fixed meaning. These images must point past all meanings given, beyond all definitions and relationships, to that really ineffable mystery that is just the existence, the being of ourselves and of our world. If we give that mystery an exact meaning we diminish the experience of its real depth. But when a poet carries the mind into a context of meanings and then pitches it past those, one knows that marvelous rapture that comes from going past all categories of definition. Here we sense the function of metaphor that allows us to make a journey we could not otherwise make ... #Quote by Joseph Campbell
Period quotes by Herbert Hainer
#86. It never feels good if you don't reach all of your goals, neither in sport, nor in business nor in your personal life. But the key thing is to never give up, we have taken our learnings from 2014 and developed an exciting and promising strategy for the period up until 2020. #Quote by Herbert Hainer

Period quotes by Jackie Kessler
#88. If Melissa Miller were an artist, she would have painted the world in vicious streaks of red. Nothing like Picasso's rose period, all soft and cheerful and so optimistic that it made you want to puke. Missy's red phase would have been brutal and bright enough to cut your eyes. Missy's art would have been honest. #Quote by Jackie Kessler
Period quotes by Rose George
#89. Rules governing defecation, hygiene, and pollution exist in every culture at every period in history. It may in fact be the foundation of civilization: What is toilet training if not the first attempt to turn a child into an acceptable member of society? #Quote by Rose George
Period quotes by Hudson Gurney
#90. [Young] was afterwards accustomed to say, that at no period of his life was he particularly fond of repeating experiments, or even of very frequently attempting to originate new ones; considering that, however necessary to the advancement of science, they demanded a great sacrifice of time, and that when the fact was once established, that time was better employed in considering the purposes to which it might be applied, or the principles which it might tend to elucidate. #Quote by Hudson Gurney
Period quotes by Dan C. Quayle
#91. The Holocaust was an obscene period in our nation's history. I mean in this century's history. But we all lived in this century. I didn't live in this century. #Quote by Dan C. Quayle
Period quotes by Zannie Adams
#92. I'm late."

He blinked and glanced instinctively at his wrist, where he usually wore his watch.

Despite her anxiety, Cali snickered. "Not late like that. My period is late."

He blinked again, but was otherwise frozen in place. His expression was unreadable and it made Cali's heart sink a little. #Quote by Zannie Adams
Period quotes by Veronica Roth
#93. He didn't have to guide his mom toward Cyra. She saw her and walked straight to her. It didn't make Cyra look any less scared.
"Miss Noavek," his mom said. There was a little catch in her throat. She tilted her head to see the silverskin on Cyra's neck.
"Oracle," Cyra said, inclining her head. He'd never seen Cyra bow to anyone like she meant it before.
One of the shadows bloomed over Cyra's cheek and then spread into three lines of inky dark that ran down her throat like a swallow. He set his fingers on her elbow so she could shake his mother's hand when she offered it, and his mom watched the light touch with interest.
"Mom, Cyra made sure I got home last week," he said. He wasn't sure what else to say about her. Or what else to say, period. The blush that had chased him through childhood came creeping back; he felt it behind his ears, and tried to stifle it. "At great cost to herself, as you can see."
His mom looked Cyra over again. "Thank you, Miss Noavek, for what you've done for my son. I look forward, later, to finding out why."
With a strange smile, Sifa turned away, linking arms with Cisi. Cyra hung back with Akos, eyebrows raised.
"That's my mother," he said.
"I realize that," she said. "You're…" She brushed her fingers over the back of his ear, where his skin was heating. "You're blushing."
So much for trying to stifle it. The heat spread to Akos's face, and he was sure he was bright red. Shouldn't he have grown out of t #Quote by Veronica Roth
Period quotes by Merlin Stone
#94. It is difficult to grasp the immensity and significance of the extreme reverence paid to the Goddess over a period of (at least) seven thousand years and over miles of land cutting across national boundaries and vast expanses of sea. Yet it is vital to do just that to fully comprehend the longevity as well as the widespread power and influence this religion once held. #Quote by Merlin Stone
Period quotes by Karen Armstrong
#95. Religious discourse was not intended to be understood literally because it was only possible to speak about a reality that transcended language in symbolic terms. The story of the lost paradise was a myth, not a factual account of a historical event. People were not expected to "believe" it in the abstract; like any mythos, it depended upon the rituals associated with the cult of a particular holy place to make what it signified a reality in the lives of participants.

The same applies to the creation myth that was central to ancient religion and has now become controversial in the Western world because the Genesis story seems to clash with modern science. But until the early modern period, nobody read a cosmology as a literal account of the origins of life. In the ancient world, it was inspired by an acute sense of the contingency and frailty of existence. Why had anything come into being at all, when there could so easily have been nothing? There has never been a simple or even a possible answer to this question, but people continue to ask it, pushing their minds to the limit of what we can know. #Quote by Karen Armstrong
Period quotes by John Lennon
#96. It was my Fat Elvis period. I was eating and drinking like a pig. I was depressed and I was crying out for help. It's real. And I meant it. #Quote by John Lennon
Period quotes by Milan Kundera
#97. When I described Madame de T's night, I recalled the well-known equation from one of the first chapters of the textbook of existential mathematics: the degree of speed is directly proportional to the intensity of forgetting. From that equation we can deduce various corrollaries, for instance this one: our period is given over to the demon of speed, and that is the reason it so easily forgets its own self. Now I would reverse that statement and say: our period is obsessed by the desire to forget, and it is to fulfill that desire that it gives over to the demon of speed; it picks up the pace to show us that it no longer wishes to be remembered; that it is tired of itself; sick of itself; that it wants to blow out the tiny trembling flame of memory. #Quote by Milan Kundera
Period quotes by Gautama Buddha
#98. Suppose a man threw into the sea a yoke with one hole in it, and the east wind carried it to the west, and the west wind carried it to the east, and the north wind carried it to the south, and the south wind carried it to the north. Suppose there were a blind turtle that came up once at the end of each century. What do you think, bhikkhus? Would that blind turtle put his neck into that yoke with one hole in it?"
"He might, venerable sir, sometime or other at the end of a long period."
"Bhikkhus, the blind turtle would sooner put his neck into that yoke with a single hole in it than a fool, once gone to perdition, would take to regain the human state, I say. Why is that? Because there is no practising of the Dhamma there, no practising of what is righteous, no doing of what is wholesome, no performance of merit. There mutual devouring prevails, and the slaughter of the weak. #Quote by Gautama Buddha
Period quotes by Garrett Epps
#99. the Gilded Age Senate was in fact more subservient to established interests than the current one. It was during this period that the Senate came to be called "the Millionaire's Club," because industrial and banking magnates, having amassed huge fortunes, often bought themselves Senate seats so they could protect their wealth on the spot. #Quote by Garrett Epps
Period quotes by Arlene Dahl
#100. Every time you envy someone you use a muscle in your face to disadvantage. If you do it only once or twice, it can be erased. But over a period of years, those muscles will tighten your mouth, narrow your eyes, and help destroy your attractiveness. #Quote by Arlene Dahl
Period quotes by Noam Chomsky
#101. Take a look at the polls. The public overwhelmingly supports higher taxes on the wealthy, which have declined sharply in this period of stagnation and decline - higher taxes on the wealthy and preserve the limited social benefits. #Quote by Noam Chomsky

Period quotes by Michael Spence
#104. My father once said about being a parent that it is the only thing you do that requires a very long period of learning, and at about the time that you are becoming competent, you don't need the skills anymore. Notwithstanding this modest assessment of their parenting skills, they were wonderful parents. #Quote by Michael Spence
Period quotes by Maria Montessori
#105. There are many who hold, as I do, that the most important part of life is not the age of university studies, but the first one, the period from birth to the age of six. For that is the time when a man's intelligence itself, his greatest implement, is being formed. But not only his intelligence; the full totality of his psychic powers. #Quote by Maria Montessori
Period quotes by Karen Hawkins
#106. Since neither of us wish to be married, we must think of a way to soothe Grandfather's irritation." Christian looked amused. "I suppose I could put an end to my existence. That would please him a good deal." "Nonsense. He is not an impractical man. He has to know that would just lead to more scandal." Christian's lips twitched. "That would be horrid, wouldn't it?" Beth had to fight the urge to smile herself. "Horrid, indeed." "I suppose I shall not put a period to my own life then." "We will save that as our Avenue of Last Recourse." "Thank you," he said dryly. #Quote by Karen Hawkins
Period quotes by Elie Wiesel
#107. In retrospect I must confess that I do not know, or no longer know, what I wanted to achieve with my words. I only know that without this testimony, my life as a writer - or my life, period - would not have become what it is: that of a witness who believes he has a moral obligation to try to prevent the enemy from enjoying one last victory by allowing his crimes to be erased from human memory. #Quote by Elie Wiesel
Period quotes by Jewel Spears Brooker
#108. The period of general neglect of Eliot's poetry was one in which a revolution was occurring in the theory of interpretation. Existentialist, phenomenologist, structuralist, psychoanalytic, feminist, and poststructuralist theories appeared and stimulated dazzling conversations about how texts mean. Bloom, Miller, Poulet, Gadamer, Foucault, Lacan, Kristeva, and Derrida are just a few of the critics who have contributed to these conversations. These studies have enormous value for critics interested in Eliot. In the first place, they have popularized insights about language which are central in Eliot poetry from "The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock" to Four Quartets. Anyone who doubts this should read Derrida "Structure, Sign, and Play in the Discourse of the Human Sciences" and follow up with a reading of part 5 of each of Four Quartets. In the second place, the studies in theory have created an audience that will be able to appreciate Eliot's dissertation and early philosophical work, an audience unthinkable a generation ago. #Quote by Jewel Spears Brooker
Period quotes by Aubrey De Grey
#109. The aim is to postpone frailty, postpone degenerative disease, debilitation and so on and thereby shorten the period at the end of life, which is passed in a decrepit or disabled state, while extending life as a whole. #Quote by Aubrey De Grey
Period quotes by David Downie
#110. Depending on which flavor of academic scholarship you prefer, that age had its roots in the Renaissance or Mannerist periods in Germany, England, and Italy. It first bloomed in France in the garden of Jean-Jacques Rousseau in the 1780s. Others point to François-René de Chateaubriand's château circa 1800 or Victor Hugo's Paris apartments in the 1820s and '30s. The time frame depends on who you ask. All agree Romanticism reached its apogee in Paris in the 1820s to 1840s before fading, according to some circa 1850 to make way for the anti-Romantic Napoléon III and the Second Empire, according to others in the 1880s when the late Romantic Decadents took over. Yet others say the period stretched until 1914 - conveniently enduring through the debauched Belle Époque before expiring in time for World War I and the arrival of that other perennial of the pigeonhole specialists, modernism.

There are those, however, who look beyond dates and tags and believe the Romantic spirit never died, that it overflowed, spread, fractured, came back together again like the Seine around its islands, morphed into other isms, changed its name and address dozens of times as Nadar and Balzac did and, like a phantom or vampire or other supernatural invention of the Romantic Age, it thrives today in billions of brains and hearts. The mother ship, the source, the living shrine of Romanticism remains the city of Paris. #Quote by David Downie
Period quotes by Lucy Powell
#111. Surely, the best and most effective measure is to get the economy moving and shorten the period of recession or slowdown. That's the rationale for Gordon Brown's 'fiscal stimulus' and it sounds like a good one to me. #Quote by Lucy Powell
Period quotes by Carol Shields
#112. This was during a period in my reading life when I was given to understand that "relating" to the fictional characters or situation was of prime importance, and so I read, I'm sorry to say, narrowly, frugally, unadventurously, as though I had no interest in the greater world and no desire to experience other cycles of thinking and being. This idea of "relating", or identifying, was encouraged by my teachers and even, I believe, by the critical theories of the day. Naive as it may sound, one read fiction in order to confirm the reality of one's experience. #Quote by Carol Shields
Period quotes by Jose Saramago
#113. News of the miracle had reached the doge's palace, but in a somewhat garbled form. the result of the successive transmissions of facts, true or assumed, real or purely imaginary, based on everything from partial, more or less eyewitness accounts to reports from those who simply liked the sound of their own voice, for, as we know all too well, no one telling a story can resist adding a period, and sometimes even a comma. #Quote by Jose Saramago
Period quotes by Eraldo Banovac
#114. There is a simple rule regarding wisdom: those who have a superficial knowledge cannot be wise. On the contrary, wise people have broad knowledge. However, besides the acquired knowledge, wisdom arises from observation and contemplation over a longer period of time. Wisdom is, therefore, often the privilege of older people who have a broad knowledge and respectable experience. Feel free to ask such people for advice. #Quote by Eraldo Banovac

Period quotes by Dick Latvala
#116. I don't have an agenda. I don't have things I want to get to or something. I have like a broad, slim grasp of certain periods and certain shows within that period, an awareness of them, but they demand re-listening. I have a flimsy grasp of all the eras and ideas within each period of what would be a good show to think of. #Quote by Dick Latvala
Period quotes by Catherynne M Valente
#117. Well," the Marsh King pursed his beak politely, "at any rate, your manliness need only last for a relatively brief period. I have already discussed this in detail with some of the lower Stars - white dwarfs and the like. I shall bundle you up tight as a mitten in a human skin until," and here he cleared his long blue throat dramatically, "the Virgin is devoured, the sea turns to gold, and the saints migrate west on the wings of henless eggs."
"In the Stars' name, what does that mean?" I gasped.
"I haven't the faintest idea! Isn't it marvelous? Oracles always have the best poetry! I only repeated what I was told - it is rather rude of you to expect magic, prophecy, and interpretation. That's asking quite a lot, even from a King. #Quote by Catherynne M Valente
Period quotes by Damaris Patterson Price
#118. Management or not, no matter what the next-level role is or what your organization calls it, it is a step into a higher degree of leadership. That's the first lesson. To be promotable, you must be seen as a leader. Period. Full stop. #Quote by Damaris Patterson Price
Period quotes by David Quammen

Period quotes by Alan W. Watts
#120. Wanting to get out of pain is the pain; it is not the "reaction" of an "I" distinct from the pain. When you discover this, the desire to escape "merges" into the pain itself and vanishes. Discounting aspirin for the moment, you cannot remove your head from a headache as you can remove your hand from a flame. "You" equals "head" equals "ache." When you actually see that you are the pain, pain ceases to be a motive, for there is no one to be moved. It becomes, in the true sense, of no consequence. It hurts - period. #Quote by Alan W. Watts
Period quotes by Tony DiTerlizzi

Period quotes by Nina Fedoroff
#122. We have domesticated crops over a very long period of time, like tens of thousands of years. And crops get - seeds get carried. Sometimes, if they're very small seeds, they get scattered off trucks. Pollen travels. #Quote by Nina Fedoroff
Period quotes by Frantz Fanon
#123. In order to assimilate the culture of the oppressor and venture into his fold, the colonized subject has to pawn some of his own intellectual possessions. For instance, one of the things he has had to assimilate is the way the colonialist bourgeoisie thinks. This is apparent in the colonized intellectual's inaptitude to engage in dialogue. For he is unable to make himself inessential when confronted with a purpose or idea. On the other hand, when he operates among the people he is constantly awestruck. He is literally disarmed by their good faith and integrity. He is then constantly at risk of becoming a demagogue. He turns into a kind of mimic man who nods his assent to every word by the people, transformed by him into an arbiter of truth. But the fellah, the unemployed and the starving do not lay claim to truth. They do not say they represent the truth because they are the truth in their very being.

During this period the intellectual behaves objectively like a vulgar opportunist. His maneuvering, in fact, is still at work. The people would never think of rejecting him or cutting the ground from under his feet. What the people want is for everything to be pooled together. The colonized intellectual's insertion into this human tide will find itself on hold because of his curious obsession with detail. It is not that the people are opposed to analysis. They appreciate clarification, understand the reasoning behind an argument, and like to see where they are going. #Quote by Frantz Fanon

Period quotes by Alain De Botton
#125. Logically enough, the office and the nunnery have been singularly popular in the imaginations of pornographers. We should not be surprised to learn that the erotic novels of the early modern period were overwhelmingly focused on debauchery and flagellation amongst clergy in vespers and chapels, just as contemporary Internet pornography is inordinately concerned with fellatios and sodomies performed by office workers against a backdrop of work stations and computer equipment. #Quote by Alain De Botton
Period quotes by Russell Simmons
#126. When I started the diamond business, no black person, period, was in it to do what we're trying to do to change the industry. So I like to do things that I see clearly that are in my, you know, scope. And then, I had to figure how I get talented or smart business people around me to execute. That's what I have to do. #Quote by Russell Simmons
Period quotes by Jude Law
#127. I was an optimist, a great champion of the human spirit. And I lost that for a time. I feel like I've regained a bit of that in the last few years but there was a period of my life in which I had a very low opinion of people in general. #Quote by Jude Law
Period quotes by Conor McPherson
#128. I would love to make a 1830's period piece, a house in the country, a classic atmospheric haunted house movie, visually it would be so beautiful, the costumes, the candles, the darkness, and the quiet, no radio, to TV, the clock ticking away. #Quote by Conor McPherson

#132. Me: Did you get your tree yet?
Ken: I'm a Jew, I don't decorate Christmas trees.
Me: So you're going to go with a wreath instead?
Ken: I just told you, I'm a Jew.
Me: Oh, I get it. You're looking for a cheap wreath.
Ken: I'm not looking for a wreath at all. Leave me alone, will you.
Me: You're probably just tense because you haven't finished your Christmas shopping.
Ken: I don't Christmas shop.
Me: What are you telling me? That you make all of your presents.
Ken: I don't give Christmas presents period. Goddamit, I told you, I'm a Jew.
Me: Well, don't you at least need to buy something for your parents?
Ken: They're Jews, too, idiot. That's what makes me one. It's hereditary. Do you understand?
Me: Sure.

Period quotes by Benton MacKaye
#135. The problem of living is at bottom an economic one. And this alone is bad enough, even in a period of so-called "normalcy." Period quotes by Alexis De Tocqueville
#141. However, not only are fortunes equal in America, equality extends to some degree to intelligence itself. I do not think that there is a single country in the world where, in proportion to the population, there are so few ignorant and, at the same time, so few educated individuals as in America. Primary education is available to all; secondary is within reach of no one, which can be explained quite easily as the inevitable result, so to speak, of my argument above. Almost all Americans enjoy a life of comfort and can, therefore, obtain the first elements of human knowledge. In America there are few rich people; therefore, all Americans have to learn the skills of a profession which demands a period of apprenticeship. Thus America can devote to general learning only the early years of life. At fifteen, they begin a career; their education ends most often when ours begins. If education is pursued beyond that point, it is directed only towards specialist subjects with a profitable return in mind. Science is studied as if it were a job and only those branches are taken up which have a recognized and immediate usefulness. #Quote by Alexis De Tocqueville
Period quotes by Hans Matheson
#142. Put me in a costume, and I'm your man. I must have one of those faces which seems to suit period drama more than modern films and TV programmes. Period quotes by Scott Ritter

Period quotes by Leviak B. Kelly
#144. The Australian Aboriginal cave paintings, from this period, are the first hints of religion that humans have as proof of religious behaviour. The caves in which the paintings are found date to 50,000 years ago through forensic geology and carbon dating. Most of the images found in their religious stories and ceremonies are depicted in these caves. We also have confirmation from the aborigines themselves that these images are their religious images. These paintings also are likely to be significant evidence for linking the use of Amanita Muscaria to its use 50,000 years ago. This is because 50,000 years ago was when humanity entered Australia and also because Amanita Muscaria produces religious like experiences. #Quote by Leviak B. Kelly
Period quotes by Anthony Powell
#145. Because nothing establishes the timelessness of Time like those episodes of early experience seen, on re-examination at a later period, to have been crowded together with such unbelievable closeness in the course of a few years; yet equally giving the illusion of being so infinitely extended during the months when actually taking place. #Quote by Anthony Powell

Period quotes by Albert Memmi
#150. Colonized painting, for instance, is balanced between poles. From excessive submission to Europe resulting in depersonalization, it passes to such a violent return to self that it is obnoxious and esthetically illusory. The right balance not being found, the self-accusation continues. Before and during the revolt, the colonized always considers the colonizer as a model or as an antithesis. He continues to struggle against him. He was torn between what he was and what he wanted to be, and now he is making of himself. Nonetheless, the painful discord with himself continues.
In order to witness the colonized's complete cure, his alienation must completely cease. We must await the complete disappearance of colonization

Period quotes by Kyle Jones
#152. There are many fair places in heaven, and over everything there a godlike watch is kept. A hall stands there, fair, under the ash by the well, and out of that hall come three maids.... [T]hese maids determine the period of men's lives: we call them Norns; but there are many norns: those who come to each child that is born, to appoint his life." Prose Edda, Gylfaginning, Snorri Sturlson, translated by Arthur Gilchrist Brodeur #Quote by Kyle Jones
Period quotes by Claire Fullerton
#153. There's a period of uncertainty that comes into play upon meeting someone who interests you. It must be inherent in attraction, for I've never met anybody who hasn't experienced it, it's just a question of to what degree they're going to admit it. #Quote by Claire Fullerton
Period quotes by Alice Walker
#154. Creation is a sustained period of bliss, even though the subject can still be very sad. Because there's the triumph of coming through and understanding that you have, and that you did it the way only you could do it. You didn't do it the way somebody told you to do it. #Quote by Alice Walker
Period quotes by Aaron Sorkin
#155. We lead the world in only 3 categories: number of incarcerated citizens per capita, number of adults who believe angels are real, and defense spending, where we spend more than the next 26 countries combined, 25 of whom are allies. Now none of this is the fault of 20 year old college student, but you nonetheless are without a doubt a member of the worst period generation period ever period, so when you ask what makes us the greatest country in the world I don't know what the f^&k you're talking about. #Quote by Aaron Sorkin
Period quotes by Richard Paul Evans
#156. Remember that death is the punctuation at the end of the sentence. It's up to us to decide what kind of punctuation it will be - a period or an exclamation point. #Quote by Richard Paul Evans
Period quotes by Marshall Goldsmith
#157. The best ideas are like great wines. They improve with age. But they can also go through a dumb period when they need time to settle and sink in. #Quote by Marshall Goldsmith
Period quotes by Frances Conroy
#158. It's actually meditative to sit in a character for an extended period of time, realizing what your relationship is to who you're playing and then letting go, just being there. #Quote by Frances Conroy
Period quotes by Taylor Swift
#159. Different phases of your life have different levels of deep, traumatizing heartbreak, and in this period of my life, my heart was not irreparably broken. So it's not as boy-centric of an album, because my life hasn't been boy-centric. #Quote by Taylor Swift
Period quotes by Robert Loggia
#160. We rehearsed our 'Scarface' to the nines. Long period of rehearsal, so that by the time we started to shoot, it was almost like doing a play. We all had a grand time doing it. It was a wonderful cast. #Quote by Robert Loggia
Period quotes by Alethea Black
#161. Where did everyone find the will to do all the work in the world? We're all allowed a kind of grace period, she decided, when we can coast along, before we really need to choose a life and summon the determination to live it. Her grace period had just run out. #Quote by Alethea Black
Period quotes by Frederic Joliot-Curie
#162. We bombarded aluminum with alpha rays ... then after a certain period of irradiation, we removed the source of alpha rays. We now observed that the sheet of aluminum continued to emit positive electrons over a period of several minutes. #Quote by Frederic Joliot-Curie
Period quotes by Craig Cecil
#163. Just keeping yourself interested and motivated to train over a long period of time is often the biggest hurdle and one of the biggest factors for success in building sustainable muscle. #Quote by Craig Cecil
Period quotes by A.R. Rahman
#164. Beautiful film music can be made relevant to any period. #Quote by A.R. Rahman
Period quotes by Alain De Botton
#165. There is, in the early period of love, a measure of sheer relief at being able, at last, to reveal so much of what needed to be kept hidden for the sake of propriety. We can admit to not being as respectable or as sober, as even-keeled, or as "normal" as society believes. We can be childish, imaginative, wild, hopeful, cynical, fragile, and multiple; all of this our lover can understand and accept us for. At #Quote by Alain De Botton
Period quotes by Mohsin Hamid
#166. If you have ever, sir, been through a breakup of a romantic relationship that involved great love, you will perhaps understand what I experienced. There is in such situations usually a moment of passion during which the unthinkable is said; this is followed by a sense of euphoria at finally being liberated; the world seems fresh as if seen for the first time then comes the inevitable period of doubt, the desperate and doomed backpedaling of regret; and only later, once emotions have receded, is one able to view with equanimity the journey through which one has passed. #Quote by Mohsin Hamid
Period quotes by Bernd Heinrich
#167. The essential thing is to run period!
And to do it for a long time and consistently and then everything will take care of itself. #Quote by Bernd Heinrich
Period quotes by Maxwell Maltz
#168. Happiness is a mental habit, a mental attitude, and if it is not learned and practiced in the present it is never experienced. It cannot be made contingent upon solving some external problem. When one problem is solved, another appears to take its place. Life is a series of problems. If you are to be happy at all, you must be happy - period! Not happy "because of". #Quote by Maxwell Maltz
Period quotes by Gregory A. Boyd
#169. All indications are that most Americans have become entrapped in wealth. Studies have shown that the wealthier people become, the lower percentage of their income they tend to give away. For example, in 2000 the gap between the average wealth of Americans and that of the poorest 25 percent of people on the planet was four times greater than what it had been in 1960. During this same period of time, the percentage of our country's GNP (Gross National Product) that went to providing assistance to the poorest 25 percent of people on the planet decreased to about one tenth of what it had been in 1960. While there are many incredibly generous Americans, as a nation we've clearly become entrapped by our wealth. #Quote by Gregory A. Boyd
Period quotes by Anousheh Ansari
#170. Being an entrepreneur does require a lot of sacrifice of your personal time and personal hobbies and things that you enjoy. At least for the period of high growth that you experience at the beginning of a company's life cycle, you have to be ready to make a lot of time sacrifices and personal sacrifice. #Quote by Anousheh Ansari
Period quotes by Jim C. Hines
#171. 1. Bullying is not okay. Period.
2. Freedom of religion does not give you the right to physically or verbally assault people.
3. If your sincerely-held religious beliefs require you to bully children, then your beliefs are fucked up. #Quote by Jim C. Hines
Period quotes by Eric Bana
#172. I knew a bit but we don't study a lot of British history at school in Australia. We have our own 50-year period to concentrate on. #Quote by Eric Bana
Period quotes by Josh McDowell
#173. My father's life was changed right before my eyes [when he trusted Christ]. It was like someone reached down and switched on a light inside him. He touched alcohol only once after that. He got the drink only as far as his lips and that was it-after forty years of drinking! He didn't need it any more. Fourteen months later, he died form complications of his alcoholism. But in that fourteen-month period over a hundred people in the area around my tiny hometown committed their lives to Jesus Christ because of the change they saw in the town drunk, my dad. #Quote by Josh McDowell
Period quotes by Constance Marie
#174. I was 38 years old when we started trying to have a baby. I thought it would be no problem, but the 3 years it took us was the most difficult period of my life. #Quote by Constance Marie
Period quotes by Rory Freedman
#175. Compassion and mercy are important, period. It doesn't matter who's at our receiving end, but we need to be flexing those muscles. It's not mutually exclusive: If you have compassion for children starving in Africa, it doesn't mean you can't have compassion for adults in Africa or animals that are being tortured and abused. #Quote by Rory Freedman
Period quotes by Chris Colfer
#176. In what grade do we stop believing in ourselves? In what grade do we stop believing, period? #Quote by Chris Colfer
Period quotes by Max Hastings
#177. Winston Churchill wrote afterwards: 'No part of the Great War compares in interest with its opening. The measured, silent drawing together of gigantic forces, the uncertainty of their movements and positions, the number of unknown and unknowable facts made the first collision a drama never surpassed. Nor was there any other period in the War when the general battle was waged on so great a scale, when the slaughter was so swift or the stakes so high. Moreover, in the beginning, our faculties of wonder, horror, or excitement had not been cauterized and deadened by the furnace fires of years. #Quote by Max Hastings
Period quotes by Lynn Margulis
#178. People think the earth is going to die and they have to save it. That's ridiculous. If you rid the earth of flowering plants, people would die, period. But the earth was without flowering plants for almost all of its history. #Quote by Lynn Margulis
Period quotes by A. C. Green
#179. If you can control yourself sexually, you can control yourself. Period. #Quote by A. C. Green
Period quotes by Dmitry Merezhkovsky
#180. Before us is mighty, so to speak, transformative and preparatory work. From a period which is creative, immediate and elemental, we must proceed to a period which is critical, conscious and cultural. These are the two worlds between which exists the entire abyss. The contemporary generation has the misfortune of being born between these two worlds, before this abyss. Herein is explained its frailty, diseased anxiety, hungry search for new ideals and a certain fateful impotency in all of its efforts. The best youth and vigor of talent is not expended on vital creativity but on an internal destructiveness and struggle with the past, on the passage across the abyss to that land, to that shore, to the frontiers of a free and divine idealism. How many people are perishing in this passage or are losing their strength irrevocably!...

("On The Reasons For The Decline And On The New Tendencies In Contemporary Literature") #Quote by Dmitry Merezhkovsky
Period quotes by Julie Kagawa
#181. Time has no meaning in the wyldwood. Day and night don't really exist here, just light and darkness, and they can be as fickle and moody as everything else. A "night" can pass in the space of a blink, or go on forever. Light and darkness will chase each other through the sky, play hide-and-seek or tag or catch-me-if-you-can. Sometimes, one or the other will become offended ... and refuse to come out for an indefinite amount of time. Once, light became so angry, a hundred years passed in the mortal realm before it deigned to come out again. And though the sun continued to rise and set in the human world, it was a rather turbulent period for the world of men, as all the creatures who lurked in darkness and shadow got to roam freely under the lightless Nevernever skies. #Quote by Julie Kagawa
Period quotes by William Donaldson
#182. On the whole popular fiction in Victorian Scotland is not overwhelmingly backward-looking; it is not obsessed by rural themes; it does not shrink from urbanisation or its problems; it is not idyllic in its approach; it does not treat the common people as comic or quaint. The second half of the nineteenth century is not a period of creative trauma or linguistic decline; it is one of the richest and most vital episodes in the history of Scottish popular culture. #Quote by William Donaldson
Period quotes by John Jeremiah Bigsby
#183. The Silurian Period-the grandest of all the Periods,-and, as yet, apparently the seed-time of all succeeding life. #Quote by John Jeremiah Bigsby
Period quotes by Friedrich August Von Hayek
#184. With the exception only of the period of the gold standard, practically all governments of history have used their exclusive power to issue money to defraud and plunder the people. #Quote by Friedrich August Von Hayek
Period quotes by Montgomery Clift
#185. I have the same problem as Marilyn. We attract people the way honey does bees, but they're generally the wrong kind of people. People who want something from us - if only our energy. We need a period of being alone to become ourselves. #Quote by Montgomery Clift
Period quotes by Dwight Schultz
#186. Being closer to the genesis of this whole period, it captured the importance of the concept of making contact and accurately depicted the paranoia of the time. It's an excellent film. #Quote by Dwight Schultz
Period quotes by Alan Parker
#187. Period recreation is very difficult unless you make a black-and-white movie. #Quote by Alan Parker
Period quotes by Deirdre O'Kane
#188. My salary swings an unbelievable amount. When I had Holly, I took seven months off, so my salary was very low. It fluctuates wildly. No one pays you for the period you spend writing. I am certainly not rich. #Quote by Deirdre O'Kane
Period quotes by Eric Avery
#189. I just didn't like the idea of doing reunions, period. I could only see it as I'd just be going over the same old ground. I'm only years older and fatter and I'll just do an older, fatter version of me. #Quote by Eric Avery
Period quotes by Nikki Reed
#190. I kind of went through a rough period. I could have kept going down that road and then off the cliff and into the ocean. #Quote by Nikki Reed
Period quotes by Grace Lee Boggs
#191. In the 1950s I rarely went to a community meeting without Jimmy and would usually just listen or ask questions. Now, having worked in the city and socialized with Jimmy's friends and Correspondence readers for years, I felt I had something to contribute. I was beginning to feel comfortable with the we pronoun, so comfortable that in FBI records of that period I am described as Afro-Chinese. #Quote by Grace Lee Boggs
Period quotes by Robert Mankoff
#192. While the end-of-the-world scenario will be rife with unimaginable horrors, we believe that the pre-end period will be filled with unprecedented opportunities for profit. #Quote by Robert Mankoff

Period quotes by Ian Watson
#195. If you look back on a period of psychological or spiritual growth, you'll generally find that it's when you've let go of something that you have made progress. It's the letting go that allows you to expand and grow. #Quote by Ian Watson
Period quotes by Edward Gibbon
#196. The two Antonines (for it is of them that we are now speaking) governed the Roman world forty-two years, with the same invariable spirit of wisdom and virtue ... Their united reigns are possibly the only period of history in which the happiness of a great people was the sole object of government. #Quote by Edward Gibbon
Period quotes by Phindiwe Nkosi
#197. This book is written in
a barren period of loss with an attempt to move forward towards substance. #Quote by Phindiwe Nkosi
Period quotes by Richelle E. Goodrich
#198. I know they don't respect the lives of others…"

"Mortals," he specified, "who exist for a brief moment and then die off."

Her voice rose as she argued with him. "I speak of people with very valued lives, Edgar. It may seem like a moment to you, but to me it is eternity."

"That makes no sense."

"It makes perfect sense, Edgar! Life is valuable - period. And because mine can be easily taken away, it becomes even more valuable and precious. Yours, you take for granted because you'll never lose it. Mine, I cherish because it's fleeting. For that reason alone I can argue that my life is of the greatest worth."

His eyebrows pulled together over a tangled scowl. She couldn't tell if he was trying to understand her reasoning or if she had merely managed to upset him.

"Never mind," she mumbled. "I don't think you can appreciate what you've never experienced.

"That works both ways, Amora."

"Whatever. #Quote by Richelle E. Goodrich
Period quotes by Rhys Darby
#199. I was in the New Zealand army for like four years, the exact period of when it was on the air, so I never saw it. #Quote by Rhys Darby
Period quotes by Bille August
#200. It was a major dream come true at last. In many respects, Jerusalem is a very modern and important story about people in a period of transition, with all the unrest that permeates society on the eve of a new century. The big life issues are at stake. #Quote by Bille August
