Our Lives quotes by Phillip Phillips
#1. Sometimes when we fall in love there simply is no going back. There's not turning back to the people we once were or simply falling in love with someone else. When we truly fall in love and find the person we're going to spend the rest of our lives with there's no falling in love with someone else. It simply isn't possible. You don't have your heart to give anymore. #Quote by Phillip Phillips
Our Lives quotes by Jenni Schaefer
#2. Clinicians have told me that our emotional is arrested at the age that an eating disorder takes control of our lives. After we recover, we pick up emotionally where we left off at that age. #Quote by Jenni Schaefer
Our Lives quotes by Wilford Woodruff
#3. Ours is no ordinary calling. Great opportunities and privileges have been bestowed upon us. To us, as a people, has been entrusted the grand and glorious labor of laying the foundation of the kingdom of God upon the earth. Every act of our lives should be performed with this in view. Nothing should be done by anyone calling himself a Latter-day Saint that will conflict with the policy which God has announced as proper to be adopted in establishing that kingdom (The Discourses of Wilford Woodruff, p. 125). #Quote by Wilford Woodruff
Our Lives quotes by Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi
#4. If the firms that employ an increasing majority of the population are driven solely to satisfy the owner's greed at the expense of working conditions, of the stability of the community, and of the health of the environment, chances are that the quality of our lives will be worse than it is now. #Quote by Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi
Our Lives quotes by Kevin Hearne
#5. Missing people in our lives are like wounds we reopen with thoughts. #Quote by Kevin Hearne
Our Lives quotes by Brother Yun
#6. We're not called to live by human reason. All that matters is obedience to God's Word and his leading in our lives. if God says go,we'll go. If he says stay, we'll stay. When we are in his will, we are in the safest place in the world. #Quote by Brother Yun
Our Lives quotes by Michael Meade
#7. Something ancient in us bends us toward the origins of the whole thing. We either drown in the splits and confusions of our lives, or we surrender to something greater than ourselves. The water of our deepest troubles is also the water of our own solution. In surrender, we descend down to the bottom of it and back to the beginning of it; down into what is divided in order to get back to the wholeness before the split. Healing, health, wealth, wholeness: all hail from the same roots. To heal is to make whole again; wholeness is what all healing seeks and what alone can truly unify our spirit. #Quote by Michael Meade
Our Lives quotes by Frederick Lenz
#8. What more could there be, but the absolute beauty of our lives? Look around you, for heaven's sake and stop thinking. It is only in your thoughts and in analytical processes that you lose yourself. #Quote by Frederick Lenz
Our Lives quotes by Erica Jong
#9. But the great compensation for being fifty in a culture that is not kind to older women is that you care less about criticism and you are less afraid of confrontation. In a world not made for women, criticism and ridicule follow us all the days of our lives. Usually they are indications that we are doing something right. #Quote by Erica Jong
Our Lives quotes by Naomi Shihab Nye
#10. Valentine for Ernest Mann"

You can't order a poem like you order a taco.
Walk up to the counter, say, "I'll take two"
and expect it to be handed back to you
on a shiny plate.

Still, I like your spirit.
Anyone who says, "Here's my address,
write me a poem," deserves something in reply.
So I'll tell a secret instead:
poems hide. In the bottoms of our shoes,
they are sleeping. They are the shadows
drifting across our ceilings the moment
before we wake up. What we have to do
is live in a way that lets us find them.

Once I knew a man who gave his wife
two skunks for a valentine.
He couldn't understand why she was crying.
"I thought they had such beautiful eyes."
And he was serious. He was a serious man
who lived in a serious way. Nothing was ugly
just because the world said so. He really
liked those skunks. So, he re-invented them
as valentines and they became beautiful.
At least, to him. And the poems that had been hiding
in the eyes of skunks for centuries
crawled out and curled up at his feet.

Maybe if we re-invent whatever our lives give us
we find poems. Check your garage, the off sock
in your drawer, the person you almost like, but not quite. #Quote by Naomi Shihab Nye
Our Lives quotes by Ugo Betti
#11. Who cares about great marks left behind? We have one life ... just one. Our life. We have nothing else. #Quote by Ugo Betti
Our Lives quotes by Thomas Troward
#12. What is our point of support? Is it in ourselves or outside us? Are we self-poised, or does our balance depend on something external? According to the actual belief in which our answer to these questions is embodied so will our lives be. In everything there are two parts, the essential and the incidental – that which is the nucleus and raison d'être of the whole thing, and that which gathers round this nucleus and takes form from it. The true knowledge always consists in distinguishing these two from each other, and error always consists in misplacing them. #Quote by Thomas Troward
Our Lives quotes by Joyce Carol Oates
#13. Our lives can only be interpreted in retrospect, yet must be lived from day to day, blindly. What folly, the human condition! #Quote by Joyce Carol Oates
Our Lives quotes by Alex Pattakos
#14. The search for meaning in our lives takes us on paths large and small. When we go beyond ourselves-whether in forgiveness, unselfishness, thoughtfulness, generosity and understanding toward others-we enter into the spiritual realm of meaning. By giving beyond ourselves, we make our own lives richer. This is a truth long understood at the heart of all meaningful spiritual traditions. It's a mystery that can only be experienced. And when we do experience it, we are in the heart of meaning. We are no longer a prisoner of our thoughts. #Quote by Alex Pattakos
Our Lives quotes by Nicholas A. Christakis
#15. There are very fundamental reasons we live our lives in social networks, and if we really understood the role they're playing in our society, we would take better care of social networks and find ways to take advantage of their power to improve our society. #Quote by Nicholas A. Christakis
Our Lives quotes by Johann Wolfgang Von Goethe
#16. The fine emotions whence our lives we mold
Lie in the earthly tumult dumb and cold. #Quote by Johann Wolfgang Von Goethe
Our Lives quotes by Lillian Smith
#17. To believe in something not yet proved and to underwrite it with our lives: it is the only way we can leave the future open. #Quote by Lillian Smith
Our Lives quotes by John Eldredge
#18. As Buechner says, we are in constant danger of being not actors in the drama of our lives but reactors, to go where the world takes us, to drift with whatever current happens to be running the strongest. #Quote by John Eldredge
Our Lives quotes by Atul Gawande
#19. In a sense, the advances of modern medicine have given us two revolutions: we've undergone a biological transformation of the course of our lives and also a cultural transformation of how we think about that course. #Quote by Atul Gawande
Our Lives quotes by Matshona Dhliwayo
#20. Our eyes are open to see wisdom.
Our ears are open to hear wisdom.
Our minds are open to gain wisdom.
Our hearts are open to store wisdom.
Our souls are open to practice wisdom.
Our lives are open to magnify wisdom. #Quote by Matshona Dhliwayo

Our Lives quotes by Sarah Rees Brennan
#22. Also," Nick added curtly, "I'm sorry about your face."
Jamie looked over his shoulder, and touched the demon's mark crawling along his jaw with the back of his hand. "Sorry about saving all our lives by doing something you had to do?"
"Oh no," Nick said blandly, "I just meant, you know. Generally."
Jamie stared at him, shocked, and laughed. It was a real laugh, helpless and sweet, and Mae memorized it in case he died. Jamie by the river at dawn, laughing. #Quote by Sarah Rees Brennan
Our Lives quotes by Richard Blackaby

Our Lives quotes by Delbert L. Stapley
#25. Good habits are developed in the workshops of our daily lives. It is not in the great moments of test and trial that character is built. That is only when it is displayed. The habits that direct our lives and form our character are fashioned in the often uneventful, commonplace routine of life. #Quote by Delbert L. Stapley
Our Lives quotes by Peter Kreeft
#26. God writes the story of our lives with the pen strokes of our own free choices. #Quote by Peter Kreeft
Our Lives quotes by Gore Vidal
#27. I confess to not having listened to a word of the Declaration of Independence. At the time I barely knew the name of the author of this sublime document. I do remember hearing someone comment that since Mr. Jefferson had seen fit to pledge so eloquently our lives to the cause of independence, he might at least join us in the army. But wise Tom preferred the safety of Virginia and the excitement of local politics to the discomforts and dangers of war. #Quote by Gore Vidal
Our Lives quotes by Gregory Maguire
#28. Beauty is no end in itself, but if it makes our lives less miserable so that we might be more kind - well, then, let's have beauty, painted on our porcelain, hanging on our walls, ringing through our stories. We are a sorry tribe of beasts. We need all the help we can get. #Quote by Gregory Maguire
Our Lives quotes by Mike Birbiglia
#29. My wife and I always comment that our lives are relatively mundane. She's a writer as well, I'm a writer, we spend most of our time writing, and kind of going to yoga in Brooklyn. #Quote by Mike Birbiglia
Our Lives quotes by Christina Baldwin
#30. Story is the mother of us all. First we wrap our lives in language and then we act on who we say we are. We proceed from the word into the world and make a world based on our stories. #Quote by Christina Baldwin
Our Lives quotes by Gillian Hovell, 'Visiting The Past'
#31. Discover how to visit the past and bring yesterday's stories into our lives today #Quote by Gillian Hovell, 'Visiting The Past'
Our Lives quotes by Michael Kimmel
#32. I believe that Americans are entitled. We're entitled to have a job that makes us feel like we have some dignity in our lives, that we live a life of integrity, and that we have good family relationships and our relationships with our friends and our families and our coworkers are enriching and meaningful. #Quote by Michael Kimmel
Our Lives quotes by Jacque Fresco
#33. The more intelligent our children, the better our lives and the richer our culture will be. #Quote by Jacque Fresco
Our Lives quotes by Robert Sheckley

Our Lives quotes by Kent Nerburn
#35. We're conditioned to think that our lives revolve around great moments. But great moments often catch us unaware – beautifully wrapped in what others may consider a small one. #Quote by Kent Nerburn
Our Lives quotes by Carlos Bulosan
#36. We do not take democracy for granted. We feel it grow in our working together - many millions of us working toward a common purpose. If it took us several decades of sacrifice to arrive at this faith, it is because it took us that long to know what part of America is ours.
Our faith has been shaken many times, and now it is put to question. Our faith is a living thing, and it can be crippled or chained. It can be killed by denying us enough food or clothing, by blasting away our personalities and keeping us in constant fear. Unless we are properly prepared the powers of darkness will have good reason to catch us unaware and trample our lives. #Quote by Carlos Bulosan
Our Lives quotes by Gloria Steinem
#37. For women, all women, whatever our sexuality, it's crucial to our health that we are able to separate sexuality from reproduction. I mean whether or not we can control when we give birth is the biggest element in our health, our education, our economic welfare, our life expectancy, everything. #Quote by Gloria Steinem
Our Lives quotes by Don Lemna
#38. I don't think she [Mother] likes doing the laundry," I said. It was actually the first time in my life that I'd really thought about it - about what she did once a week, every week, all our lives. I suddenly felt very sorry for her. At the same time, I wondered what it would be like to never again have clean clothes. #Quote by Don Lemna
Our Lives quotes by Richard Paul Evans
#39. I have found that the most significant experiences of our lives rarely come when we're expecting them and oftentimes when we're not even paying attention. #Quote by Richard Paul Evans
Our Lives quotes by Jawaharlal Nehru
#40. Our lives are encumbered with the dead wood of this past; all that is dead and has served its purpose has to go. But that does not mean a break with, or a forgetting of, the vital and life-giving in that past. We can never forget the ideals that have moved our race, the dreams of the Indian people through the ages, the wisdom of the ancients, the buoyant energy and love of life and nature of our forefathers, their spirit of curiosity and mental adventure, the daring of their thought, their splendid achievements in literature, art and culture, their love of truth and beauty and freedom, the basic values that they set up, their understanding of life's mysterious ways, their toleration of other ways than theirs, their capacity to absorb other peoples and their cultural accomplishments, to synthesize them and develop a varied and mixed culture; nor can we forget the myriad experiences which have built up our ancient race and lie embedded in our sub-conscious minds. We will never forget them or cease to take pride in that noble heritage of ours. If India forgets them she will no longer remain India and much that has made her our joy and pride will cease to be. #Quote by Jawaharlal Nehru
Our Lives quotes by Ann Spangler
#41. Sometimes something good has to be subtracted from our lives before something better can take its place. #Quote by Ann Spangler
Our Lives quotes by Samuel Longfellow
#42. Into all our lives, in many simple, familiar, homely ways, God infuses this element of joy from the surprises of life, which unexpectedly brighten our days and fill our eyes with light. #Quote by Samuel Longfellow
Our Lives quotes by Mary Ann Shaffer
#43. The war is now the story of our lives, and there's no denying it #Quote by Mary Ann Shaffer
Our Lives quotes by Adam Phillips
#44. The unexamined life is surely worth living, but is the unloved life worth examining? It seems a strange question until one realizes how much of our so-called mental life is about the lives we are not living, the lives we are missing out on, the lives we could be leading but for some reason are not. What we fantasize about, what we long for, are the experiences, the things and the people that are absent. It is the absence of what we need that makes us think, that makes us cross and sad. We have to be aware of what is missing in our lives - even if this often obscures both what we already have and what is actually available - because we can survive only if our appetites more or less work for us. Indeed, we have to survive our appetites by making people cooperate with our wanting. We pressurize the world to be there for our benefit. And yet we quickly notice as children - it is, perhaps, the first thing we do notice - that our needs, like our wishes, are always potentially unmet. Because we are always shadowed by the possibility of not getting what we want, we lean, at best, to ironize our wishes - that is, to call our wants wishes: a wish is only a wish until, as we say, it comes true - and, at worst, to hate our needs. But we also learn to live somewhere between the lives we have and the lives we would like.(…)
There is always what will turn out to be the life we led, and the life that accompanied it, the parallel life (or lives) that never actually happened, that we liv #Quote by Adam Phillips
Our Lives quotes by Brian Tracy
#45. We feel good about ourselves to the exact degree we feel in control of our lives. #Quote by Brian Tracy
Our Lives quotes by Abu Bakr
#46. Our abode in this world is transitory, our life therein is but a loan, our breaths are numbered and our indolence is manifest. #Quote by Abu Bakr
Our Lives quotes by Jacqui Stedmon
#47. Narratives are the primary way in which we make sense of our lives, as opposed to, for example schema, cognition, beliefs, constructs. Definition of narrative include the important element of giving meaning to events and experiences over time by connecting them as a developing, continuing story. #Quote by Jacqui Stedmon
Our Lives quotes by Joss Whedon
#48. When you're telling a story, you're trying to connect to people in a particular way ... The way in which you guys have inhabited this world, this universe, has made you part of it, part of the story. You are living in Firefly. When I see you guys, I don't think the show is off the air. I don't think there's a show; I think that's what the world is like. ... The story is our lives. #Quote by Joss Whedon
Our Lives quotes by Marcus Sakey
#49. Freedom is not a couch. It's not a television, or a car, or a house. It's not an item you can possess. You cannot put freedom on layaway; you cannot refinance freedom. Freedom is something you need to fight for, not once, but every single day. The nature of freedom is that it is fluid; like water in a leaking bucket, the tendency is for it to drain away. Left untended, the holes through which freedom escapes widen. When politicians restrict our rights in order to "protect us," freedom is lost. When the military refuses to disclose basic facts, freedom is lost. Worst of all, when fear becomes a part of our lives, we willingly surrender freedom for a promise of safety, as if freedom weren't the very basis of safety. #Quote by Marcus Sakey
Our Lives quotes by M. Yvonne Jones
#50. Mr. Baptiste, I love Sid with all that I am and I would greatly treasure the opportunity to spend the rest of our lives showing her just how much she means to me. #Quote by M. Yvonne Jones
Our Lives quotes by Ali Harris
#51. Is there such a thing as a life without any regrets? I've never believed so. We spend our lives aiming for happiness and fulfilment in work, in love and with our friends and family, and yet often our energy is spent lamenting bad boyfriends, wrong career turns, fallouts with friends and opportunities missed. Or is that just me? I admit I'm naturally a glass-half-empty kind of girl, but I know regrets are a burden to happiness and I'm trying to let go of them because I've learned that it's all about choice. You can choose to turn regrets into lessons that change your future. Believe me when I say I'm really trying to do this. But the truth is, I'm failing. Because all I can think right now is: maybe I deserve it. Maybe this is my penance. #Quote by Ali Harris
Our Lives quotes by Bell Hooks
#52. The widespread assumption that ethical behavior takes the fun out of life is false. In actuality, living ethically ensures that relationships in our lives, including encounters with strangers, nurture our spiritual growth. #Quote by Bell Hooks
Our Lives quotes by Drew Gerald
#53. Om is said to be a four-syllable word in Sanskrit, originally as AUM. A, the waking state. U, the dream state. M, the unconscious state. And the fourth, the silence that surrounds it - wherefrom everything arises and whereto everything inevitably returns.

It is the silence that surrounds om that contains everything. It is the silence in your own life that contains and gives birth to everything you have, and everything you will ever need.

It is this same silence we avoid, overlook, and disregard as nothing. The white space of life we abhor. We fill our lives with noise, drama, screens, people, and "stuff" to avoid the void that reminds us of our truth - that beyond flesh that once was not, and will inescapably become not, we are eternal. #Quote by Drew Gerald
Our Lives quotes by Jess Walter
#54. And when our lives do begin? I mean, the exacting part, the action? It's all so fast. #Quote by Jess Walter
Our Lives quotes by Mark Batterson
#55. Every once in a while, I need a no-agenda day with nothing to do, but those aren't the days we're going to celebrate at the end of our lives. We won't even remember those days. What we'll remember are the days when we had everything to do, and with God's help, we did it. We won't remember the things that came easy; we'll remember the things that came hard. We'll remember the miracles on the far side of long and boring. #Quote by Mark Batterson
Our Lives quotes by Candi Pearson-Shelton
#56. Our lives are far more important than they may seem. Our legacies have the capacity to be treasures to cherish or trash to bury. We can affect the course of someone else's life by our actions, by our words, by our efforts. Jesus in us can make the glorious impact a treasure. Left to our own devices, we contribute little more than good intentions. #Quote by Candi Pearson-Shelton
Our Lives quotes by Victor L. Brown
#57. The law of the fast benefits both those who fast and those who stand in need ... In addition to providing the means for taking care of the poor among us, fasting is a principle of power which helps us to individually achieve righteous purposes in our lives. #Quote by Victor L. Brown
Our Lives quotes by Mike Nichols
#58. Most great plays of the past lose their grip on immediacy; on application to our lives right now. #Quote by Mike Nichols
Our Lives quotes by Marcus Sedgwick
#59. And if I really can see the future, then what does it mean? Is there any sense in our lives if everything is already out there, just waiting to happen? For if that were so, then life would be a horrible monster indeed, with no chance of escape from fate, from destiny. It would be like reading a book, but reading it backwards, from the final chapter down to chapter one, so that the end is already known to you. #Quote by Marcus Sedgwick
Our Lives quotes by Courtenay Hameister
#60. Anxious people are braver than the un-anxious, because we do it anyway, every single day. We're faced with fear on a regular basis and we push through it in order to simply live our lives. And that's something to be proud of.

Also, we're kind of lucky, we anxious few. Because when you're scared of everything, everything is an adventure. #Quote by Courtenay Hameister
Our Lives quotes by Jamin Goggin
#61. How we handle our disappointment with God reveals the heart of our idolatry. But that is the very point! The dryness God ushers in to our lives is for the very purpose of bringing these idolatries to the surface. This is why dryness is not a problem to be fixed. This is not a season to work through. This is the high calling of God to be present with him wherever he leads, and to utilize this season to be with him who is always with us, even when we feel like he has abandoned us. #Quote by Jamin Goggin
Our Lives quotes by Huston Smith
#62. Love is the movement within life that carries us, that enables us, that causes us to break out of what Alan Watts calls the "skin-encapsulated ego." Without love, we are self-centered, but love enables us to move the center of our lives outside our ego. Therefore it expands our lives and, needless to say, enriches it. Any human being would give anything to love or be loved. When it really happens, it is like heaven on earth. #Quote by Huston Smith
Our Lives quotes by Vaclav Klaus
#63. The development of European integration can be divided into two phases. The first era ended with the Maastricht Treaty. It was a liberalization phase, with the main goal of European integration at the time being the removal of various barriers and borders in Europe. The second phase is a homogenization or standardization phase, one that involves regulation from the top and growing control over our lives. This no longer has anything to do with freedom and democracy. #Quote by Vaclav Klaus
Our Lives quotes by Stanley Hauerwas
#64. We complain of the increased tempo of our lives, but our frenetic lives are just reflection of the economic system that we have created. #Quote by Stanley Hauerwas
Our Lives quotes by Mark Spragg
#65. We own nothing in our lives but perspective. #Quote by Mark Spragg
Our Lives quotes by Gaston Bachelard
#66. In our life as a civilized person in the industrial age, we are invaded by objects; how could an object have a "force" when it no longer has individuality? #Quote by Gaston Bachelard
Our Lives quotes by Maya Tiwari
#67. When we look at things as simple as food, it's not about just nourishment and sustaining our life, it is really the seed of our ancestor. #Quote by Maya Tiwari
Our Lives quotes by Patsy Clairmont
#68. We are told repeatedly in Scripture to prepare for hardships; so why do we believe our lives should be characterized by ease? #Quote by Patsy Clairmont
Our Lives quotes by Tammara Webber
#69. Remember last fall, when you needed to be reckless, and I told you to use me? Well, now, it's time to be fearless. I can't promise that you won't be hurt again, because life can suck. And, sometimes it hurts like hell. I'm asking you now to have faith in one thing, for now: the fact that when we're alone, I'm just Reid, and you're just Dori, and we're going to love each other for the rest of our lives. #Quote by Tammara Webber
Our Lives quotes by Wendell Berry
#70. A crowd whose discontent has risen no higher than the level of slogans is only a crowd. But a crowd that understands the reasons for its discontent and knows the remedies is a vital community, and it will have to be reckoned with. I would rather go before the government with two people who have a competent understanding of an issue, and who therefore deserve a hearing, than with two thousand who are vaguely dissatisfied.
But even the most articulate public protest is not enough. We don't live in the government or in institutions or in our public utterances and acts, and the environmental crisis has its roots in our lives. By the same token, environmental health will also be rooted in our lives. That is, I take it, simply a fact, and in the light of it we can see how superficial and foolish we would be to think that we could correct what is wrong merely by tinkering with the institutional machinery. The changes that are required are fundamental changes in the way we are living. #Quote by Wendell Berry
Our Lives quotes by Monica Johnson
#71. We live unto Him, so committing our service to the Lord is the first and foremost priority of our lives. We can start with our reasonable service: prayer, studying, fasting, tithing, fellowshipping, and witnessing. #Quote by Monica Johnson
Our Lives quotes by Joyce Meyer
#72. As we regularly spend time reading God's Word and talking to Him in prayer, we put ourselves in position for Him to do things in our lives we could never do on our own. #Quote by Joyce Meyer
Our Lives quotes by Louisa May Alcott
#73. Both of us hope and trust that our daughters, whether married or single, will be the pride and comfort of our lives. #Quote by Louisa May Alcott
Our Lives quotes by Kyung-Sook Shin
#74. I wish someone would promise me that nothing is meaningless," he said. "I wish there were promises worth believing in. That after we've been hunted and lonely and anxious and living in fear, there is something else. Considering the way we are living right now, if we were young at the end of our lives instead, then maybe our dreams could come true. #Quote by Kyung-Sook Shin
Our Lives quotes by Harper Lee
#75. Older Scout: [narrating] Neighbors bring food with death, and flowers with sickness, and little things in between. Boo was our neighbor. He gave us two soap dolls, a broken watch and chain, a knife, and our lives. #Quote by Harper Lee
Our Lives quotes by Art Hochberg
#76. Everything comes from nowhere. Where is nowhere? An, that's the mystery of our lives. #Quote by Art Hochberg

Our Lives quotes by Joan Lunden
#78. Often, we don't recognize real moments of happiness in our lives because we've been expecting something different- something bigger or perhaps more dramatic. #Quote by Joan Lunden
Our Lives quotes by Max Lucado
#79. Our lives are a little like a milkshake. Ingredients get mixed together. Some of the ingredients are unimpressive by themselves. Some - rejections, disappointments, failures - are awful at the time. Yet God shakes them up and pours them out into a concoction that is delicious and good. #Quote by Max Lucado
Our Lives quotes by Hill Harper
#80. There will always be crazy things that happen in our lives, but love is the central connector. If we commit to love and partnership, the other stuff doesn't matter. #Quote by Hill Harper
Our Lives quotes by Reynolds Price
#81. A need to tell and hear stories is essential to the species Homo sapiens-second in necessity apparently after nourishment and before love and shelter. Millions survive without love or home, almost none in silence; the opposite of silence leads quickly to narrative, and the sound of story is the dominant sound of our lives, from the small accounts of our day's events to the vast incommunicable constructs of psychopaths. #Quote by Reynolds Price
Our Lives quotes by Emily Thorne
#82. Some say that our lives are defined by the sum of our choices. But it isn't really our choices that distinguish who we are. It's our commitment to them. #Quote by Emily Thorne
Our Lives quotes by Sheena Iyengar
#83. Whether we do it consciously or subconsciously, we tend to organize our lives to display our identity as accurately as possible. Our lifestyle choices often reveal our values, or at least what we'd like people to perceive as our values ... as we make our everyday choices, we continuously calculate not just which choices best match who we are and what we want but also how those choices will be interpreted by others. We look for cues in our social environment to figure out what others think of this or that, which can require being sensitive to the most localized and up-to-date details of what a particular choice means. #Quote by Sheena Iyengar
Our Lives quotes by Ivanka Trump
#84. I love my father very much. I attribute so much of the person I am today to the values that he and my mother set for us, and the way they encouraged us every day of our lives to go out and find what we love doing and to fulfill our potential and really be happy. #Quote by Ivanka Trump
Our Lives quotes by Ernst Mach
#85. The task which we have set ourselves is simply to show why and for what purpose we hold that standpoint during most of our lives, and why and for what purpose we are provisionally obliged to abandon it. #Quote by Ernst Mach
Our Lives quotes by Mahnaz Afkhami
#86. We have the ability to achieve, if we master the necessary goodwill, a common global society blessed with a shared culture of peace that is nourished by the ethnic, national and local diversities that enrich our lives. #Quote by Mahnaz Afkhami
Our Lives quotes by Allison Winn Scotch
#87. We all have those moments where we realize how easily our lives could be so different, for better or for worse. I met my husband at a gym in NYC! What if I'd joined a different gym? What if I hadn't worked out in the afternoons? These questions are endless. #Quote by Allison Winn Scotch
Our Lives quotes by Thomas Jefferson
#88. The most fortunate of us all in our journey through life frequently meet with calamities and misfortunes which greatly afflict us. To fortify our minds against the attacks of these calamities and misfortunes should be one of the principal studies and endeavors of our lives. #Quote by Thomas Jefferson
Our Lives quotes by David Bottoms
#89. We all want to break our orbits, float like a satellite gone wild in space, run the risk of disintegration. We all want to take our lives in our own hands and hurl them out among the stars. #Quote by David Bottoms
Our Lives quotes by Jean Shinoda Bolen
#90. Synchronistic events offer us perceptions that may be useful in our psychological and spiritual growth and may reveal to us, through intuitive knowledge, that our lives have meaning. #Quote by Jean Shinoda Bolen
Our Lives quotes by Douglas R. Hofstadter
#91. Perhaps the greatest contradiction in our lives, the hardest to handle, is the knowledge 'There was a time when I was not alive, and there will come a time when I am not alive.' On one level, when you 'step out of yourself' and see yourself as 'just another human being', it makes complete sense. But on another level, perhaps a deeper level, personal nonexistence makes no sense at all. All that we know is embedded inside our minds, and for all that to be absent from the universe is not comprehensible. This is a basic undeniable problem of life... #Quote by Douglas R. Hofstadter
Our Lives quotes by Brene Brown
#92. We are the authors of our lives. We write our own daring endings. #Quote by Brene Brown
Our Lives quotes by Jose Andres
#93. I don't think anybody can claim success at any part of our lives, private or professional, if there are others that don't enjoy the same opportunities. #Quote by Jose Andres
Our Lives quotes by Christopher Hawke
#94. There are casualties in war. Those who don't make it back to a place of sound hopes and dreams. Some take on their demons alone. They are deceived into fearlessness and trampled by the hooves of their oppressor.
Besides intervention, there is little justice for the thousands-upon-thousands hacked to pieces all around us.
How dare we try to take life to the next level. Instead of merely protecting ourselves or scrounging up our next meal, we have the audacity to hope for something more - a witness for our lives who will survive alongside us. #Quote by Christopher Hawke
Our Lives quotes by Gregory Maguire
#95. All our lives are activity without meaning; we burrow ratlike into life and we squirm ratlike through it and ratlike we are flung into our graves at the end. Now and then, why shouldn't we hear a voice of prophecy, #Quote by Gregory Maguire
Our Lives quotes by Leigh Bardugo
#96. We cannot spend our lives in hiding, wondering what we might accomplish if given the chance. We have to take that chance ourselves. #Quote by Leigh Bardugo
Our Lives quotes by Nancy Leigh DeMoss
#97. Obedience is the pathway to blessing. It's the means of protection. It's the means of joy. It's the means to finding God's best in our lives. #Quote by Nancy Leigh DeMoss
Our Lives quotes by Susan Jeffers
#98. The term "universe" refers to that life plan that seems to take over despite what we have in mind - that "force" operating, seemingly on its own, that often interferes with our picture of how we would like things to be. It refers to a certain flow in our lives and the lives of others over which we have little or no control. #Quote by Susan Jeffers
Our Lives quotes by Jesenia Sanabia
#99. A book is a blessing that comes into our lives to teach, entertain, and inspire. #Quote by Jesenia Sanabia
Our Lives quotes by Gordon T. Smith
#100. Part of the reason why we feel these transitions so keenly is that we know that our lives matter. #Quote by Gordon T. Smith
Our Lives quotes by Dave Barry
#101. Technology is constantly improving our lives. Look at the cellular telephone. Just ten years ago, virtually nobody was able to get into a car crash caused by trying to steer and dial at the same time; today, people do this all the time. #Quote by Dave Barry
Our Lives quotes by Donald Miller
#102. The great tragedy of our lives seems to be that we are smart enough to ask the questions of meaning but too dumb to really figure it out. #Quote by Donald Miller
Our Lives quotes by Paulo Coelho
#103. A brush with death always helps us to live our lives better. #Quote by Paulo Coelho
Our Lives quotes by Auliq Ice
#104. Spending time to learn and to gather better information is what we do most in our lives. We go to school, spend time there, and learn things important in our life. We do this only for one reason, to be happy. #Quote by Auliq Ice
Our Lives quotes by Seneca The Younger
#105. There is nothing that Nature has made necessary which is more easy than death; we are longer a-coming into the world than going out of it; and there is not any minute of our lives wherein we may not reasonably expect it. Nay, it is but a momen'ts work, the parting of soul and body. What a shame is it then to stand in fear of anything so long that is over so soon! #Quote by Seneca The Younger
Our Lives quotes by Warren W. Wiersbe
#106. Nothing paralyzes our lives like the attitude that things can never change. We need to remind ourselves that God can change things. Outlook determines outcome. If we see only the problems, we will be defeated; but if we see the possibilities in the problems, we can have victory. #Quote by Warren W. Wiersbe
Our Lives quotes by Devon Monk
#107. There was a Dad-shaped emptiness in all of our lives, and I didn't think any of us knew how to fill it yet. #Quote by Devon Monk
Our Lives quotes by Vincent Van Gogh
#108. It is only right and proper to be moved by the Bible, but present-day reality has so strong a hold over us that even when we try to imagine the past the minor events in our lives immediately wrench us out of our musings, and our own adventures throw us back irrevocably upon our personal feelings - joy, boredom, suffering, anger, or a smile. #Quote by Vincent Van Gogh
Our Lives quotes by Wes Moore
#109. How we spend our days is how we spend our lives, and it's the rare person who can walk away from what feels like a sure thing. #Quote by Wes Moore
Our Lives quotes by Margaret Mead
#110. The city as a center where, any day in any year, there may be a fresh encounter with a new talent, a keen mind or a gifted specialist-this is essential to the life of a country. To play this role in our lives a city must have a soul-a university, a great art or music school, a cathedral or a great mosque or temple, a great laboratory or scientific center, as well as the libraries and museums and galleries that bring past and present together. A city must be a place where groups of women and men are seeking and developing the highest things they know. #Quote by Margaret Mead
Our Lives quotes by Michael Leunig
#111. Murk can be described as an enfeebled fog with a personality disorder; it is more troubled than ethereal, sulking moodily over our lives at the end of the day. #Quote by Michael Leunig
Our Lives quotes by Sheldon B. Kopp
#112. We must learn to give ourselves permission to blunder, to fail, and to make fools of ourselves every day for the rest of our lives. We do so in any case. #Quote by Sheldon B. Kopp
Our Lives quotes by John F. Kennedy
#113. We must find time to stop and thank the people who make a difference in our lives. #Quote by John F. Kennedy
Our Lives quotes by Timothy Keller
#114. The story of Jesus changes our lives because it is true. #Quote by Timothy Keller
Our Lives quotes by Maud Hart Lovelace
#115. We have to build our lives out of what materials we have. It's as though we were given a heap of blocks and told to build a house. #Quote by Maud Hart Lovelace
Our Lives quotes by Ron Lambros
#116. God does not want our faith kept in mothballs, so He sometimes allows trials and testing to come into our lives; the unexpected hardships and heartbreaks that rock us in places we never thought we'd face as a child of God. And it's in those defining moments that we knock off the cobwebs of our everyday faith and face life with a new and improved one that's empowered by God Himself. #Quote by Ron Lambros
Our Lives quotes by Peter Coyote
#117. We spend all this energy keeping our lives normal and safe and predictable, and the result is that our approved cultural safety valve is the movies. So in films, anyway, the hero is obliged to represent the continuance of social values and institutions, and his permission to act is much more seriously limited than the villain's. #Quote by Peter Coyote
Our Lives quotes by Jason Versey
#118. There are seasons in our lives when we stand emotionally vulnerable, naked, affronted, without hope and broken. What of these dark difficult times? It's in these moments of deep humility and brokenness that exposes us for who we are. Adversity is a litmus test of our spirit. Don't begrudge it. It's where God does his greatest work. When you come out on the other side, and you will, you'll receive the gift of knowing exactly who you are and what you're truly made of and that's a small price to pay… if you stop and really think about it. ~Jason Versey #Quote by Jason Versey
Our Lives quotes by P.D. James
#119. On the whole I'm glad; you can't mourn for unborn grandchildren when there never was a hope of them. This planet is doomed anyway. Eventually the sun will explode or cool and one small insignificant particle of the universe will disappear with only a tremble. If man is doomed to perish, then universal infertility is as painless a way as any. And there are, after all, personal compensations. For the last sixty years we have sycophantically pandered to the most ignorant, the most criminal and the most selfish section of society. Now, for the rest of our lives, we're going to be spared the intrusive barbarism of the young, their noise, their pounding, repetitive, computer-produced so-called music, their violence, their egotism disguised as idealism. My God, we might even succeed in getting rid of Christmas, that annual celebration of parental guilt and juvenile greed. I intend that my life shall be comfortable, and, when it no longer is, then I shall wash down my final pill with a bottle of claret. #Quote by P.D. James
Our Lives quotes by Tijan
#120. Ezekiel 33:10 says that our sins weigh us down and we will waste away our lives because of them. #Quote by Tijan
Our Lives quotes by Marlo Thomas
#121. The rejection that we all take and the sadness and the aggravation and the loss of jobs and all of the things that we live through in our lives, without a sense of humor, I don't know how people make it. #Quote by Marlo Thomas
Our Lives quotes by Peleg Top
#122. We live in such a digital age. Paper is going out of our lives. A poem on paper is tangible. #Quote by Peleg Top
Our Lives quotes by Bill Mills
#123. To the degree that God gives us the grace to see Him, our lives and our ministries will become fruitful and effective. #Quote by Bill Mills
Our Lives quotes by Nora Ephron
#124. Most of us live our lives devoid of cinematic moments. #Quote by Nora Ephron
Our Lives quotes by J. Wesley Porter
#125. Animals in our lives can be a blessing. #Quote by J. Wesley Porter
Our Lives quotes by Eric Overby
#126. Is our closeness all smoke and mirrors,
Just a figment in my mind?
Do you know what all your in for
With a love like mine?
I can show you what lies ahead
If we leave our lives behind #Quote by Eric Overby
Our Lives quotes by Jon Kabat-Zinn
#127. Non-doing has nothing to do with being indolent or passive. Quite the contrary. It takes great courage and energy to cultivate non-doing, both in stillness and in activity. Nor is it easy to make a special time for non-doing and to keep at it in the face of everything in our lives which needs to be done. #Quote by Jon Kabat-Zinn
Our Lives quotes by Woodrow Wilson
#128. We have begun a fight that it may be will take many a generation to complete ... but you know that men are not put into this world to go the path of ease; they are put into this world to go the path of pain and struggle ... We have given our lives to the enterprise, and that is richer and the moral is greater. #Quote by Woodrow Wilson
Our Lives quotes by Richelle E. Goodrich
#129. What is this thing of intangible substance that wreaks consequential havoc on our lives? What is this sensitive thread that runs through heart and mind, and when given the slightest tremor grasps hold of all sanity, dragging the afflicted down to insufferable depths or flinging him weightless to euphoric heights? What is this magic we would deem imagination, fantasy, or pretend if not for the evidence of power manifest by human consequences? Effortlessly controlling us, it affects the infected in an instant. It takes but one word, one thought, one act to become immersed.
To stop it is hopeless.
To stifle it, demanding.
To think to master it is both improbable and pretentious.
What is this invisible hand that blinds our eyes and reigns hearts with a string? It is nature's drug and poison we call emotion. #Quote by Richelle E. Goodrich
Our Lives quotes by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow
#130. Death takes us by surprise,
And stays our hurrying feet;
The great design unfinished lies,
Our lives are incomplete
But in the dark unknown,
Perfect their circles seem,
Even as a bridge's arch of stone
Is rounded in the stream.
Alike are life and death,
When life in death survives,
And the uninterrupted breath
Inspires a thousand lives.
Were a star quenched on high,
For ages would its light,
Still traveling downward from the sky,
Shine on our mortal sight.
So when a great man dies,
For years beyond our ken,
The light he leaves behind him lies
Upon the paths of men. #Quote by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow
Our Lives quotes by Mark Epstein
#131. To be free, to come to terms with our lives, we have to have a direct experience of ourselves as we really are, warts and all. #Quote by Mark Epstein
Our Lives quotes by Mario Testino
#132. I like getting my ideas from the things of now. I am very conscious of the moment, of images that belong to this moment instead of another period. Fashion is really a reflection of our lives. You see women today and they don't do their hair up; they all wear their hair undone. So you have to reflect that in your photography . #Quote by Mario Testino
Our Lives quotes by Brennan Manning
#133. The deepest desire of our hearts is for union for God. God created us for union with himself. This is the original purpose of our lives. #Quote by Brennan Manning
Our Lives quotes by John Green
#134. So Friday? Do you have plans for Friday? And then I laughed, because the Colonel and I didn't have plans for this Friday, or for any other Friday for the rest of our lives. #Quote by John Green
Our Lives quotes by Jack Kornfield
#135. The adult brain and nervous system grow and change throughout our lives. Until the very end, we are neurologically transformed by whatever we practice. We are not limited by the past. #Quote by Jack Kornfield
Our Lives quotes by Charles Stanley
#136. If we rationalize our problems when He points them out, we will spend less and less time meditating because we won't want to face God in that area of our lives. #Quote by Charles Stanley
Our Lives quotes by Mandy Hale
#137. So many people bump into our lives for a second and it changes us forever, but they never know it. And while that's funny and strange and a little sad, it's also just life. And the truth of the matter is, it was never really about them anyway. It was always about us and what we were meant to learn from them. It was always about us and who we were meant to BECOME as a result of having encountered them. #Quote by Mandy Hale
Our Lives quotes by Alexander McCall Smith
#138. But we make such mistakes all the time, all through our lives. Wisdom, I suppose, is seeing this and acting upon it before it is too late. But it is often too late, isn't it? - and those things that we should have said are unsaid, and remain unsaid for ever. #Quote by Alexander McCall Smith
Our Lives quotes by Orison Swett Marden
#139. Where did the idea come from that we should take life so seriously, anyway? Why should a man be such a slave to his breadwinning? We ought to be able to get a good living, even to make fortunes, and yet have a good time every day of our lives. This idea of being a slave most of the time, and of only occasionally enjoying a holiday, is all wrong. #Quote by Orison Swett Marden
Our Lives quotes by Lisa See
#140. Maybe our lives are like gigantic jigsaw puzzles. You find the right piece and suddenly the whole picture has meaning. #Quote by Lisa See
Our Lives quotes by Janet Evanovich
#141. May misfortune follow us for the rest of our lives, but never catch up-Nicolas Fox, The Heist #Quote by Janet Evanovich
Our Lives quotes by John Piper
#142. We waste our lives when we do not pray and think and dream and plan and work toward magnifying God in all spheres of life. God created us for this: to live our lives in a way that makes him look more like the greatness and the beauty and the infinite worth that he really is. #Quote by John Piper
Our Lives quotes by Robin McKinley
#143. Tales are as much the necessary fabric of our lives as our bodies are. #Quote by Robin McKinley
Our Lives quotes by Tim McGraw
#144. Beyond the picket fences and the oil wells, the happy endings, and the fairy tales, is the reality of shattered lives and broken dreams. We carry on. #Quote by Tim McGraw
Our Lives quotes by Harper Lee
#145. Neighbors bring food with death and flowers with sickness and little things in between. Boo was our neighbor. He gave us two soap dolls, a broken watch and chain, a pair of good-luck pennies, and our lives. But neighbors give in return. We never put back into the tree what we took out of it: we had given him nothing, and it made me sad. #Quote by Harper Lee
Our Lives quotes by Timothy Pina
#146. The World is full of pain, suffering and many situations we never want to face. Truth is we must overcome it all to move on to better, brighter days in our lives.Overcoming is the only way we can. #Quote by Timothy Pina
Our Lives quotes by Maggie Q
#147. We've all, at some point in our lives, been in a position where we have felt powerless. #Quote by Maggie Q
Our Lives quotes by Douglas Adams
#148. I don't think anybody would argue now that the Internet isn't becoming a major factor in our lives. However, it's very new to us. Newsreaders still feel it is worth a special and rather worrying mention if, for instance, a crime was planned by people 'over the Internet.' #Quote by Douglas Adams
Our Lives quotes by Sharon Salzberg
#149. We have one impermanent experience, and, unable to be at peace as it passes, we reach out and grab for another,
The Tibetan Buddhist tradition defines renunciation as accepting what comes into our lives and letting go of what leaves our lives. To renounce in this sense is to come to a state of simple being. #Quote by Sharon Salzberg
Our Lives quotes by Federico Fellini
#150. When the most important times are occurring, we don't even recognize them or notice. We are just busy living our lives. Only looking back do we know what was a great moment in our lives. #Quote by Federico Fellini
Our Lives quotes by Jojo Moyes
#151. This was the story of our lives: minor insurrections, tiny victories, a brief chance to ridicule our oppressors, little floating vessels of hope amid a great sea of uncertainty, deprivation and fear. #Quote by Jojo Moyes
Our Lives quotes by Jean Shinoda Bolen
#152. When we enter a forest phase in our lives we enter a period of wandering and a time of potential soul growth. Here it is possible to find what we have cut off from, to "remember" a once vital aspect of ourselves. We may uncover a wellspring of creativity that has been hidden for decades. #Quote by Jean Shinoda Bolen
Our Lives quotes by Seneca The Younger
#153. As the mother's womb holds us for ten months, making us ready, not for the womb itself, but for life, just so, through our lives, we are making ourselves ready for another birth ... Therefore look forward without fear to that appointed hour- the last hour of the body, but not of the soul ... That day, which you fear as being the end of all things, is the birthday of your eternity. #Quote by Seneca The Younger
Our Lives quotes by Dalai Lama
#154. A sense of concern for others gives our lives meaning; it is the root of all human happiness #Quote by Dalai Lama
Our Lives quotes by Donald Miller
#155. If you watched a movie about a guy who wanted a Volvo and worked for years to get it, you wouldn't cry at the end when he drove off the lot, testing the windshield wipers. You wouldn't tell your friends you saw a beautiful movie or go home and put a record on to think about the story you'd seen. The truth is, you wouldn't remember that movie a week later, except you'd feel robbed and want your money back. Nobody cries at the end of a movie about a guy who wants a Volvo.
But we spend years actually living those stories, and expect our lives to be meaningful. The truth is, if what we choose to do with our lives won't make a story meaningful, it won't make a life meaningful either #Quote by Donald Miller
Our Lives quotes by Greg Bear
#156. Oh, there will still be deception. The fresh crew will emerge as adults, will have memories of past training and lives. Our stories, our lives, will go on. I refuse to allow that love to die, just because it was never real. #Quote by Greg Bear
Our Lives quotes by Gordon B. Hinckley
#157. Our lives are the only meaningful expression of what we believe and in Whom we believe. And the only real wealth, for any of us, lies in our faith. #Quote by Gordon B. Hinckley
Our Lives quotes by Richard Ford
#158. What was our life like? I almost don't remember now. Though I remember it, the space of time it occupied. And I remember it fondly. #Quote by Richard Ford
Our Lives quotes by Trevor Driggers
#159. We put our lives on hold for people who so easily forget about us. #Quote by Trevor Driggers
Our Lives quotes by Rick Anderson
#160. God is writing His story on the pages of our lives. #Quote by Rick Anderson
Our Lives quotes by Hanya Yanagihara
#161. You will learn to see your life - all of our lives - as a series of agreements, #Quote by Hanya Yanagihara
Our Lives quotes by Pete Hamill
#162. My father had a job in the factory across the way, and because he'd lost his leg, he had a stump... and in the summer... he'd work on this assembly line 8 hours a day and he was home at night. And I heard him weeping in the dark around 1 o'clock in the morning and I knew that no matter what I ever did ... that I had to honor that pain. I think that's what the children of immigrants do, all of us. We know what they gave up. They gave up their countries. In some cases they gave up their languages. They worked at the lousiest, rottenest jobs in order to put food on our table. We have to honor that, for the rest of our lives. #Quote by Pete Hamill
Our Lives quotes by Kat Lahr
#163. Sometimes we get stuck in patterns or reoccurring themes in our lives that require a shocking epiphany to give us the opportunity to see new possibilities and notice the obstacles that keep us from moving on. #Quote by Kat Lahr
Our Lives quotes by Thomas Jefferson
#164. I have ever judged of the religion of others by their lives. For it is in our lives, and not from our works, that our religion must be read. #Quote by Thomas Jefferson
Our Lives quotes by Roger Ebert
#165. And yet, even so, there is a way to find happiness. That is to be curious about all of the interlocking events that add up to our lives. To notice connections. To be amused or perhaps frightened by the ways things work out. If the universe is indifferent, what a consolation that we are not. #Quote by Roger Ebert
Our Lives quotes by Pope Benedict XVI
#166. God loves us despite our shortcomings and sins, and his love gives meaning to our lives and to the life of the world. #Quote by Pope Benedict XVI
Our Lives quotes by Toni Aleo
#167. This is about us. This is about an intense, deep connection we have. I have loved you since I first laid eyes on you Fallon, and I haven't stopped. I started to fall for you all over again Saturday night and even with how this afternoon went down, I still feel the same way. I am never going to hurt you. I will earn your trust again because I am only going to love you and our son for the rest of our lives. #Quote by Toni Aleo
Our Lives quotes by Dan Millman
#168. Simplicity has power. Founding our life on constructive, positive behavior is the simplest, most direct, and powerful approach I've ever found-simple, but not easy. #Quote by Dan Millman
Our Lives quotes by Daniel H. Pink
#169. Abstract thinking leads to greater creativity ... But in our businesses and our lives, we often do the opposite. We intensify our focus rather than widen our view. #Quote by Daniel H. Pink
Our Lives quotes by Margaret Clarkson
#170. On accepting adversity in our lives: Always it is initiated by an act of will on our part; we set ourselves to believe in the overruling goodness, providence, and sovereignty of God and refuse to turn aside no matter what may come, no matter how we may feel. I mistakenly thought I could not trust God unless I felt like trusting Him. Now I am learning that trusting God is first of all a matter of the will. I choose to trust in God, and my feelings eventually follow. #Quote by Margaret Clarkson
Our Lives quotes by Jay Chiat
#171. Fire has impacted every part of our lives - without fire, there would be no shopping, right? - that's how the Internet will intrude on our lives, particularly our kids' lives. #Quote by Jay Chiat
Our Lives quotes by Mandy Hale
#172. It is only after surrendering what we think our lives are supposed to be that we can step into everything that our lives are meant to be. #Quote by Mandy Hale
Our Lives quotes by J.K. Rowling
#173. There were once three brothers who were traveling along a lonely, winding road at twilight - '"
"Midnight, our mum always told us," said Ron, who had stretched out, arms behind his head, to listen. Hermione shot him a look of annoyance.
"Sorry, I just think it's a bit spookier if it's midnight!" said Ron.
"Yeah, because we really need a bit more fear in our lives," said Harry before he could stop himself. #Quote by J.K. Rowling
Our Lives quotes by Dave Hunt
#174. The key to our lives as Christians today is how clearly we see by faith the resurrected Christ. #Quote by Dave Hunt
Our Lives quotes by Alan Paton
#175. Who indeed knows the secret of the earthly pilgrimage? Who indeed knows why there can be comfort in a world of desolation? Now God be thanked that there is a beloved one who can lift up the heart in suffering, that one can play with a child in the face of such misery. Now God be thanked that the name of a hill is such music, that the name of a river can heal. Aye, even the name of a river that runs no more.
Who indeed knows the secret of the earthly pilgrimage? Who knows for what we live, and struggle and die? Who knows what keeps us living and struggling, while all things break about us? Who knows why the warm flesh of a child is such comfort, when one's own child is lost and cannot be recovered? Wise men write many books, in words too hard to understand. But this, the purpose of our lives, the end of all our struggle, is beyond all human wisdom. #Quote by Alan Paton
Our Lives quotes by Jeff W. Horton
#176. Life is only a brief stop on the road to eternity. Our loved ones, acquaintances, and strangers pass away before our very eyes on a daily basis. Yet each of us carries on with our lives as if we will live forever. This is merely an illusion; of course, as it is an inevitable consequence of life that each of us must die. #Quote by Jeff W. Horton
Our Lives quotes by Tony Robbins
#177. We're all going to face extreme stress in our lives, there's no one who is going to escape that. That's the one thing, rich or poor, I don't care who you are, you're going to lose. #Quote by Tony Robbins
Our Lives quotes by Kathy Reichs
#178. You should've told us!"

"You wouldn't have let me help!" Ben shot back. "This whole nightmare was my fault. I needed to find that psycho and stop him. If I'd told you guys the truth, you'd have shut me out. Then we found the corpse, and … and …" He shook his head. "It was too late. Things were crazy. All I could do was try to prevent whatever evil Rome had planned."

I held up a hand. Couldn't handle any more of his confession.

Unwittingly or not, Ben had assisted a monster. A killer. He'd known the truth for days, and never told us. He'd lied. Even when The Game had threatened our lives.

"Tell me why, Ben. Why would you want to trick us in the first place?"

Ben stopped pacing. Looked directly at me. "Don't you know?"

I shook my head, confused.

"To impress you, Victoria Brennan." His voice cracked. "I wanted you to think I was special."

The words rocked me.

Oh, Ben.

He'd started this madness … for me?

"You were spending all that time with Jason," Ben said softly, staring at his shoes. "Skipping around town with your new perfect guy. Cotillion this. Fund-raiser that. I hated it. Hated him. When I finally told Rome, he said I needed to amaze you. Said I needed to figure out a way to make you see me."

"I see you, Ben." I rose and grabbed his hand. "I always have. You're in my pack."

He pulled away. "What if being packmates isn't enough for #Quote by Kathy Reichs
Our Lives quotes by Charlie Kaufman
#179. We try to organize the world, which isn't organized the way our brains want to organize it. We tell stories about the people in our lives, we project ideas onto them. We project relationships with people, we make our lives into stories. I don't think we can avoid doing that. #Quote by Charlie Kaufman
Our Lives quotes by Jorge Luis Borges
#180. One of the schools of Tlön goes so far as to negate time; it reasons that the present is indefinite, that the future has no reality other than as a present hope, that the past has no reality other than as a present memory. Another school declares that all time has already transpired and that our life is only the crepuscular and no doubt falsified an mutilated memory or reflection of an irrecoverable process. Another, that the history of the universe - and in it our lives and the most tenuous detail of our lives - is the scripture produced by a subordinate god in order to communicate with a demon. Another, that the universe is comparable to those cryptographs in which not all the symbols are valid and that only what happens every three hundred nights is true. Another, that while we sleep here, we are awake elsewhere and that in this way every man is two men. #Quote by Jorge Luis Borges
Our Lives quotes by Guy Finley
#181. We go through our lives in a continual dance of being filled with something that needs an answer, and then going out and finding that answer ... only to find out that our answer wasn't quite the answer. #Quote by Guy Finley
Our Lives quotes by Honore De Balzac
#182. During the great storms of our lives we imitate those captains who jettison their weightiest cargo. #Quote by Honore De Balzac
Our Lives quotes by Ogden Nash
#183. Life has a tendency to obfuscate and bewilder, Such as fating us to spend the first part of our lives being embarrassed by our parents and the last part being embarrassed by our children. #Quote by Ogden Nash
Our Lives quotes by Jake Halpern
#184. Ultimately, our obsession with celebrities isn't about them; it's about us and our needs. Many of us look at these people - who have glamour, beauty, wealth, and youth - and familiarize ourselves with them until they begin to feel like real people in our lives. We discuss them at work, in the park, and over dinner. We develop feelings for them. We love them, or hate them, or pity them, or profess not to care but secretly do. #Quote by Jake Halpern
Our Lives quotes by Jodi Picoult
#185. There are legions of us, I realized. The mothers who have broken babies, and spend the rest of our lives wondering if we should have spared them. And the mothers who have let their broken babies go, who look at our children and see instead the faces of the ones they never met. #Quote by Jodi Picoult
Our Lives quotes by Mildred D. Taylor
#186. Each second that goes by, we're all one second closer to the rest of our lives and our deaths. #Quote by Mildred D. Taylor
Our Lives quotes by Bill Thrall
#187. Character – the inner world of motives and values that shapes our actions – is the ultimate determiner of the nature of our leadership. It empowers our capacities while keeping them in check. It distinguishes those who steward power well from those who abuse power. Character weaves such values as integrity, honesty, and selfless service into the fabric of our lives, organizations, and cultures. #Quote by Bill Thrall
Our Lives quotes by Karl Rahner
#188. Childhood is not a state which only applies to the first phase of our lives in the biological sense. Rather it is a basic condition which is always appropriate to a life that is lived aright. #Quote by Karl Rahner
Our Lives quotes by Michael Grant
#189. God knew our lives would be really bad sometimes. Like maybe we'd be turned into a monster and then our best friend would get killed. So he made up this story about hell, so we could always say, 'Well it could be worse. It could be hell.' And then we'd keep going. #Quote by Michael Grant
Our Lives quotes by Mary Catherwood
#190. We cannot leave the expression of our lives to those better qualified than we are, however dear they may be. #Quote by Mary Catherwood
Our Lives quotes by Bruce Springsteen
#191. We honor our parents by not accepting as the final equation the most troubling characteristics of our relationship. I decided between my father and me that the sum of our troubles would not be the summation of our lives together. In analysis, you work to turn the ghosts that haunt you into ancestors who accompany you. That takes hard work and a lot of love, but it's the way we lessen the burdens our children have to carry. #Quote by Bruce Springsteen
Our Lives quotes by Richard Rorty
#192. My principal motive is the belief that we can still make admirable sense of our lives even if we cease to have ... an ambition of transcendence. #Quote by Richard Rorty
Our Lives quotes by Emma Thomas
#193. We've spent almost ten years of our lives making 'Batman' films. #Quote by Emma Thomas
Our Lives quotes by Najeev Raj Nadarajah
#194. There is no time frame on living life, only the frame we place about ourselves to hinder our lives from living to its fullest. #Quote by Najeev Raj Nadarajah
Our Lives quotes by Claude Vorilhon
#195. To live forever should not be an obligation. In fact, eternal life should only be for those who wish for it, because if we are depressed and unhappy with our lives, just the idea of living forever is an unbearable source of suffering. #Quote by Claude Vorilhon
Our Lives quotes by Jean Vanier
#196. [Happiness] comes when we choose to be who we are, to be ourselves, at this present moment in our lives. #Quote by Jean Vanier
Our Lives quotes by Craig D. Lounsbrough
#197. To maximize our lives we think that we should get up and join in the race. Yet, we rarely consider that maybe it's less about joining a race and more about actually creating one. #Quote by Craig D. Lounsbrough
Our Lives quotes by Erik Pevernagie
#198. Let us not wait until the specter of solitude and isolation crawls into the alleys of our lives. Let us not the veiled threat of despair thrust us into oppression through our deficiency in interaction, and expand the frailty and the anxiety of our existence. Let us reach out and talk instead and use an authentic language in an unambiguous wording, and connect the dots, without fear. ("Words had disappeared") #Quote by Erik Pevernagie
Our Lives quotes by R.C. Sproul
#199. We do not segment our lives, giving some time to God, some to our business or schooling, while keeping parts to ourselves. The idea is to live all of our lives in the presence of God, under the authority of God, and for the honor and glory of God. That is what the Christian life is all about. #Quote by R.C. Sproul
Our Lives quotes by Josephine Angelini
#200. It's almost as if we don't need to live our lives or feel our feelings at all, because someone already told us what the ending was going to be. #Quote by Josephine Angelini
Our Lives quotes by Farid Al-Din Attar
#201. The home we seek is in eternity; The Truth we seek is like a shoreless sea, Of which your paradise is but a drop. This ocean can be yours; why should you stop Beguiled by dreams of evanescent dew? The secrets of the sun are yours, but you Content yourself with motes trapped in its beams. Turn to what truly lives, reject what seems
Which matters more, the body or the soul? Be whole: desire and journey to the Whole. #Quote by Farid Al-Din Attar
Our Lives quotes by Maria Cantwell
#202. In my state, two women who came to the U.S. as 'mail-order brides' were killed by abusive husbands. They had risked everything to come to this country, and it cost them their lives. We must let women know they have options. #Quote by Maria Cantwell
Our Lives quotes by Dossie Easton
#203. Marriage today is the outcome government imposing its standards on personal relationships, legislating a one-size-fits-all mandate for how people in sexual or domestic relationships ought to run their lives. #Quote by Dossie Easton
Our Lives quotes by Thomas S. Monson
#204. The Book of Mormon changes lives. #Quote by Thomas S. Monson
Our Lives quotes by Charles Duhigg
#205. One of them told me the craving disappeared as soon as we turned the electricity on," Mueller said. "Then, we turned it off, and the craving came back immediately." Eradicating the alcoholics' neurological cravings, however, wasn't enough to stop their drinking habits. Four of them relapsed soon after the surgery, usually after a stressful event. They picked up a bottle because that's how they automatically dealt with anxiety. However, once they learned alternate routines for dealing with stress, the drinking stopped for good. One patient, for instance, attended AA meetings. Others went to therapy. And once they incorporated those new routines for coping with stress and anxiety into their lives, the successes were dramatic. The man who had gone to detox sixty times never had another drink. Two other patients had started drinking at twelve, were alcoholics by eighteen, drank every day, and now have been sober for four years. #Quote by Charles Duhigg
Our Lives quotes by C. JoyBell C.
#206. Life is too short to waste any amount of time on wondering what other people think about you. In the first place, if they had better things going on in their lives, they wouldn't have the time to sit around and talk about you. What's important to me is not others' opinions of me, but what's important to me is my opinion of myself. #Quote by C. JoyBell C.
Our Lives quotes by L.M. Montgomery
#207. Never on painter's canvas lives
The charm of his fancy's dream. #Quote by L.M. Montgomery
Our Lives quotes by Gregory Maguire
#208. A capacity for inferiority in the growing adult is threatened by the temptation by squander that capacity ruthlessly, to revel in hallowness. The syndrom especially plaques anyone who lives behind a mask. An elephant in her disquise as a human princess, a scarecrow with painted features, a glittering tiara under which to glow and glide in anonymous glamour. A witch's hat, a wizards stole, a scholars gown, a soldiers dress sartorials. A hundred ways to duck the question: how will I live with myself now that I nkow what I know. #Quote by Gregory Maguire
Our Lives quotes by Gary Carr
#209. I studied the lives of jazz singers who would tour Europe, and ... what I learned was life was big ride for them. They'd seen the dark side of humanity ... but touring the world playing jazz, it was a truly carefree way of living. A great escapism, if you like. #Quote by Gary Carr
Our Lives quotes by Francis George
#210. Marriage in the Church changes all of us who are believers. This is why marriage, along with the sacrament of Holy Orders, is called a social sacrament. It changes everyone's life, not just the lives of those who enter into a particular marriage covenant. Everyone therefore has a stake in the success of a marriage. #Quote by Francis George
Our Lives quotes by Felix Salmon
#211. In a Bloomberg poll, 88% of respondents said that Wall Street bonuses should either be banned outright or taxed at 50%. Just 7% said they should remain an incentive. To put that 7% figure in perspective, 6% of Americans believe the moon landings were a hoax; 7% believe Elvis lives; 24% believe that Barack Obama is a secret Muslim; 41% believe in ESP; and 48% believe in creationism. Americans will believe anything, it seems-except the idea that incentivizing bankers at systemically important institutions to take big risks makes any sense at all. #Quote by Felix Salmon
Our Lives quotes by Diana Ross
#212. Most people don't understand performers are really sheltered and protected so much sometimes that they don't get a chance to live their lives. #Quote by Diana Ross
Our Lives quotes by Natsuo Kirino
#213. I suspect there are lots of women who want to become prostitutes. Some see themselves as valued commodities and figure they ought to sell while the price is high. Others feel that sex has no intrinsic meaning in and of itself but allows individuals to feel the reality of their own bodies. A few women despise their existence and the insignificance of their meager lives and want to affirm themselves by controlling sex much as a man would. Then there are those who are actuated by violent, self-destructive behavior. And finally we have those want to offer comfort. I suppose there are any number of women who find the meaning of their existence in similar ways. #Quote by Natsuo Kirino
Our Lives quotes by Alan Bilton
#214. Or is it that alongside this track runs other lines - repetitions, variations, contradictions - echoes of all those lives we failed to live and the things we failed to do? #Quote by Alan Bilton
Our Lives quotes by David B. Haight
#215. Life is a competition not with others, but with ourselves. We should seek each day to live stronger, better, truer lives; each day to master some weakness of yesterday; each day to repair a mistake; each day to surpass ourselves. #Quote by David B. Haight
Our Lives quotes by Jill Soloway
#216. There are a whole bunch of people - Republicans or sports fans or reality TV fans - who probably would never have recognized that they have trans people in their world. Caitlyn Jenner really is thinking about the movement and saving lives, so I know that her intentions are honorable. #Quote by Jill Soloway
Our Lives quotes by Peter Singer
#217. I agree with Varner and Scruton that the more one thinks of one's life as a story that has chapters still to be written, and the more one hopes for achievements yet to come, the more one has to lose by being killed. For this reason, when there is an irreconcilable conflict between the basic survival needs of animals and of normal humans, it is not speciesist to give priority to the lives of those with a biographical sense of their life and a stronger orientation towards the future. #Quote by Peter Singer
Our Lives quotes by Nicholas Sparks
#218. He felt as though he were failing in practically every area of his life. Lately, happiness seemed as distant and unattainable to him as space travel. He hadn't always felt this way. There had been a long period of time during which he remembered being very happy. But things change. People change. Change was one of the inevitable laws of nature, exacting its toll on people's lives. Mistakes are made, regrets form, and all that was left were repercussions that made something as simple as rising from the bed seem almost laborious. #Quote by Nicholas Sparks
Our Lives quotes by Aja Gabel
#219. But maybe what they did trained them to be selfish. But they all couldn't walk around expecting everyone else to understand that there was this relationship in their lives that was superior to every other relationship, and they had to understand that other people valued other things, and well, but. #Quote by Aja Gabel
Our Lives quotes by Arnold Schwarzenegger
#220. For the hundreds of thousands of Californians in gay and lesbian households who are managing their day-to-day lives, this decision affirms the full legal protections and safeguards I believe everyone deserves. #Quote by Arnold Schwarzenegger
Our Lives quotes by Thomas Sowell
#221. The march of science and technology does not imply growing intellectual complexity in the lives of most people. It often means the opposite. #Quote by Thomas Sowell
Our Lives quotes by Atul Gawande
#222. We look for medicine to be an orderly field of knowledge and procedure. But it is not. It is an imperfect science, an enterprise of constantly changing knowledge, uncertain information, fallible individuals, and at the same time lives on the line. There is science in what we do, yes, but also habit, intuition, and sometimes plain old guessing. The gap between what we know and what we aim for persists. And this gap complicates everything we do. #Quote by Atul Gawande
Our Lives quotes by Barbara W. Tuchman
#223. If it was not intended as a veto, then it must have been intended for commanders to interpret as they saw fit, which brings the matter to that melting point of warfare - the temperament of the individual commander.
When the moment of live ammunition approaches, the moment to which all his professional training has been directed, when the lives of men under him, the issue of the combat, even the fate of a campaign may depend upon his decision at a given moment, what happens inside the heart and vitals of a commander? Some are made bold by the moment, some irresolute, some carefully judicious, some paralyzed and powerless to act. #Quote by Barbara W. Tuchman
Our Lives quotes by Masanobu Fukuoka
#224. I believe that if one fathoms deeply one's own neighborhood and the everyday world in which he lives, the greatest of worlds will be revealed. #Quote by Masanobu Fukuoka

#225. Investing in yourself is the best investment you will ever make. it will not only improve your life, it will improve the lives of all those around you. #Quote by Robin S. Sharma

#226. If you do politics the right way, I believe, you can actually make people's lives better. And integrity is the minimum ante to get into the game. #Quote by Joe Biden

Why people are likable (edit)
Chapter 1 - Updated Nov 09, 2013 - 648 characters
I think there are two reasons people are drawn to other people: looks or personality.
Some are both pretty and nice, but those are far and few between and everyone flocks to them like flies to honey. Then there are those who are pretty and treat others like crap, but people still like them, because let's face it were all drawn to pretty things. There are also the plain or ugly, but kind people, those we come to when we need help or a laugh or a smile, and love them for it. Lastly there are those who somehow got left with neither looks nor charisma. Those are the people who live out their lives lonely and depressed or who go off themselves. #Quote by MAD
Our Lives quotes by Alistair Cross
#228. Do what you love. Use the talents you were given. When you begin your journey as a writer, you'll be told that you can't, that you won't, that you mustn't. But look closely at the lives of those who are discouraging you and ask yourself if this is someone you should be taking advice from. #Quote by Alistair Cross
Our Lives quotes by T. Harv Eker
#229. Most people are so stuck in their egos that everything revolves around me, me, and more me. But if you want to be rich in the truest sense of the word, it can't only be about you. It has to include adding value to other people's lives. #Quote by T. Harv Eker
Our Lives quotes by Swami Vivekananda
#230. Everything that can weaken us as a race we have had for the last thousand years. It seems as if during that period the national life had this one end in view, viz how to make us weaker and weaker, till we have become real earthworms, crawling at the feet of every one who dares to put his foot on us. Therefore my friends, as one of your blood, as one that lives and dies with you, let me tell you that we want strength, strength, and every time strength. #Quote by Swami Vivekananda
Our Lives quotes by Brian K. Vaughan
#231. Fantasy/science-fiction stories have been around almost as long as each genre, but every hybrid now lives in the shadow of 'Star Wars.' #Quote by Brian K. Vaughan
Our Lives quotes by Teju Cole
#232. In a Transtromer poem, you inhabit space differently; a body becomes a thing, a mind floats, things have lives, and even non-things, even concepts, are alive. #Quote by Teju Cole
Our Lives quotes by Orson Scott Card
#233. Human beings remain grubs all the lives. #Quote by Orson Scott Card
Our Lives quotes by Kei Ohishi
#234. The smaller the world one lives in, the deeper and stronger their hatred can grow. It is like water poured into a dish. #Quote by Kei Ohishi
Our Lives quotes by Junot Diaz
#235. We get these lives for free. I didn't do anything to get this life, and no matter what the hardships are, it is free and, in a way, it's an extraordinary bargain. #Quote by Junot Diaz
Our Lives quotes by Albert Schweitzer
#236. In the past we have tried to make a distinction between animals which we acknowledge have some value and other which, having none, can be liquidated when we wish. This standard must be abandoned. Everything that lives has value simply as a living thing, as one of the manifestations of the mystery that is life. #Quote by Albert Schweitzer
Our Lives quotes by Alexei Panshin
#237. If you meet life squarely, you are likely to make mistakes, do things you wish you hadn't, say things you wish you could retract or phrase more felicitously, and, in short, fumble your way along. Those "mature" people whose lives are even without a single sour note or a single mistake, who never fumble, manage only at the cost of original thought and original action. They do without the successes as well as the failures. #Quote by Alexei Panshin
Our Lives quotes by Tony Parsons
#238. I think that the spirit lives on, I don't know if it's in heaven or if it's somewhere else, some other place that I don't know anything about. But it doesn't just die. It lives on. Even if it's only in the hearts of the people we love. #Quote by Tony Parsons
Our Lives quotes by Napoleon Hill
#239. Remember, too, that all who succeed in life get off to a bad start, and pass through many heartbreaking struggles before they "arrive". The turning point in the lives of those who succeed usually comes at some moment of crisis, through which they are introduced to their "other selves". #Quote by Napoleon Hill
Our Lives quotes by Cindy Sherman
#240. We're all products of what we want to project to the world. Even people who don't spend any time, or think they don't, on preparing themselves for the world out there - I think that ultimately they have for their whole lives groomed themselves to be a certain way, to present a face to the world. #Quote by Cindy Sherman
Our Lives quotes by Philip Yancey
#241. The Italian novelist Ignazio Silone wrote about a revolutionary hunted by the police. In order to hide him, his comrades dressed him in the garb of a priest and sent him to a remote village in the foothills of the Alps. Word got out, and soon a long line of peasants appeared at his door, full of stories of their sins and broken lives. The "priest" protested and tried to turn them away, to no avail. He had no recourse but to sit and listen to the stories of people starving for grace. #Quote by Philip Yancey
Our Lives quotes by Brad Pitt
#242. Yeah. And it was too much of what you shouldn't be doing instead of what you should be doing. I get enraged when people start telling other people how to live their lives. It drives me mental. This Prop.8 thing just drives me mental #Quote by Brad Pitt
Our Lives quotes by Lynn Coady
#243. However long, it's definitely the presence of other people that brings out the weirdness - that collision of your own way of being with the everyday lives of others, the abrupt awareness - always a surprise no matter how often it's happened - that their lives are very different from your own. #Quote by Lynn Coady
Our Lives quotes by C.S. Lewis
#244. My own view is that the Churches should frankly recognise that the majority of the British people are not Christians and, therefore, cannot be expected to live Christian lives. There ought to be two distinct kinds of marriage: one governed by the State with rules enforced on all citizens, the other governed by the Church with rules enforced by her on her own members.
about the only statement i agree with in this book #Quote by C.S. Lewis
Our Lives quotes by William Zinsser
#245. Write about small, self-contained incidents that are still vivid in your memory. If you remember them, it's because they contain a larger truth that your readers will recognize in their own lives. Think small and you'll wind up finding the big themes in your family saga. #Quote by William Zinsser
Our Lives quotes by Fall Out Boy
#246. How cruel is the golden rule
When the lives we lived are only golden-plated?
And I knew that the lights of the city were too heavy for me
Though I carried carats for everyone to see.
And I saw God cry in the reflection of my enemies
And all the lovers with no time for me
And all of the mothers raise their babies
To stay away from me.
Tongues on the sockets of electric dreams
Where the sewage of youth drowned the spark of my teens
And I knew that the lights of the city were too heavy for me (too heavy for me)
Though I carried carats for everyone to see (everyone to see).
And pray they don't grow up to be #Quote by Fall Out Boy
