Individual quotes by Janet Crain
#1. Each store will fulfil some of your needs, but no individual store can meet all of your needs. Learning how to set realistic expectations now and in future relationships requires you to examine each of the existing stores to see what they can offer. #Quote by Janet Crain
Individual quotes by Jurgen Habermas
#2. Today, the language of the market penetrates every pore and forces every interpersonal relation into the schema of individual preference. #Quote by Jurgen Habermas
Individual quotes by Henry Ford
#3. I will build a car for the great multitude. It will be large enough for the family, but small enough for the individual to run and care for. It will be constructed of the best materials, by the best men to be hired, after the simplest designs that modern engineering can devise. But it will be so low in price that no man making a good salary will be unable to own one ... #Quote by Henry Ford
Individual quotes by Joe Navarro
#4. The majority of individuals view their surroundings with a minimal amount of observational effort. They are unaware of the rich tapestry of details that surrounds them, such as the subtle movement of a person's hand or foot that might betray his thoughts or intentions. #Quote by Joe Navarro
Individual quotes by Temple Grandin
#5. Complicating matters even further, on a day-to-day basis, in the same individual, the sensory sensitivities can change, especially when the person is tired or stressed. These #Quote by Temple Grandin
Individual quotes by Deepak Chopra
#6. Every child needs as much mature love as you can give. What makes love mature - and not just adult - is the conscious spiritual intention behind it. The birth of a baby launches us as teachers of spirit. Afterward we rely on the grace of love, which guides our intentions in the years to come. Spirit lifts us above our individual fallibility, and in doing that it teaches our children the deepest, most valuable lessons. #Quote by Deepak Chopra
Individual quotes by Eric Hoffer
#7. When we lose our individual independence in the corporateness of a mass movement, we find a new freedom - freedom to hate, bully, lie, torture, murder and betray without shame and remorse. #Quote by Eric Hoffer
Individual quotes by Project Itoh
#8. The instant the old folks had entered their codes and the Harmony program had begun to sing, suicide disappeared from human society. Nearly all battles ceased. The individual was no longer a unit. The entire social system was the unit. By losing its sense of self and self-awareness, society had been freed from the pain it suffered because its systems had relied on imperfect humans, arriving for the first time at a perfect bliss. I am a part of the system, as you are part of the system. No one felt any pain about that any longer. There was no "me" to feel pain. I had been replaced by a single... #Quote by Project Itoh
Individual quotes by Jarett Kobek
#9. agreements were documents of inequality codified under American law, which had always favored property rights over liberties of the individual. This made any landlord the most important person in his or her tenants' lives, capable of enacting terrible vengeance on the slightest whim. #Quote by Jarett Kobek
Individual quotes by William Blum
#10. The Soviet Union and something called communism per se had not been the object of Washington's global attacks. There had never been an International Communist Conspiracy. The enemy was, and remains, any government or movement, or even individual, that stands in the way of the expansion of the American Empire; by whatever name the US gives to the enemy - communist, rogue state, drug trafficker, terrorist. #Quote by William Blum
Individual quotes by Mark Epstein
#11. Our basic suffering is rooted in a kind of original separation anxiety, which he called a "fear of life." We fear what has already irrevocably happened - separation from the greater whole - and yet we also come to fear the loss, in death, of this precious individuality. "Between these two fear possibilities," Rank wrote, "these poles of fear, the individual is thrown back and forth all his life, which accounts for the fact that we have not been able to trace fear back to a single root, or to overcome it therapeutically."8 #Quote by Mark Epstein
Individual quotes by Dylan Saccoccio
#12. Foreword To you, that you may awaken to understand that the whole universe is a dance of energy, and that energy is God, and that energy is you. You are something that the whole universe is doing, that God is doing, just as a wave is something that the whole ocean is doing. The real you, the energy, the soul, is not a puppet that life pushes around. The real you is the whole universe. The real you is God, destined to follow no one, destined to ignite the ether, experience life from an individual perspective, and take part in the creation. So this is for you, my fellow creators, my fellow gods, and my fellow selves, that coincidence may never disguise itself with the mask of fate and torment you, that every moment be meaningful, and that no experience be lost #Quote by Dylan Saccoccio
Individual quotes by George Papandreou
#13. An elected government making huge changes with the consent of its people, is being undermined by concentrated powers in unregulated markets-powers which go beyond those of any individual government. #Quote by George Papandreou
Individual quotes by Doris Lessing
#14. It seems to me that being psycho-analysed is essentially a process where one is forced back into infantilism and then rescued from it by crystallising what one learns into a sort of intellectual primitivism-one is forced back into myth, and folk lore and everything that belongs to the savage or undeveloped stages of society. For if I say to you: I recognise in that dream, such and such a myth; or in that emotion about my father, that folk-tale; or the atmosphere of that memory is the same as an English ballad-then you smile, you are satisfied. As far as you are concerned, I've gone beyond the childish, I've transmuted it and saved it, by embodying it in myth. But in fact all I do, or you do, is to fish among the childish memories. of an individual, and merge them with the art or ideas that belong to the childhood of a people. #Quote by Doris Lessing
Individual quotes by Mitch Gaylord
#15. The greatest memory for me of the 1984 Olympics was not the individual honors, but standing on the podium with my teammates to receive our team gold medal. #Quote by Mitch Gaylord
Individual quotes by Willa Cather
#16. And that's what makes men happy, believing in the mystery and importance of their own individual lives. #Quote by Willa Cather
Individual quotes by Malcolm Muggeridge
#17. Jesus himself, even in his obscurity, dreaded the gathering of crowds, and where possible avoided them. Everything in Christianity that matters is from individual to individual; collectivities belong to the Devil, and so easily respond to his persuasion. The Devil is a demagogue and sloganeer; Jesus was, and is, concerned with individual souls, with the Living Word. What he gives us is truth carried on the wings of love, not slogans carried on the thrust of power. #Quote by Malcolm Muggeridge
Individual quotes by Mahatma Gandhi
#18. I believe it to be perfectly possible for an individual to adopt the way of life of the future ... without having to wait for others to do so. #Quote by Mahatma Gandhi
Individual quotes by Mark Ireland
#19. Your circumstance is ultimately tied to your choices; you create your own destiny. Individual development is up to you - it is your responsibility. You have all eternity to grow and progress to become all you can be. Whether the journey is swift of protracted is ultimately in your hands. #Quote by Mark Ireland
Individual quotes by T. S. Eliot
#20. No poet, no artist of any art, has his complete meaning alone. His significance, his appreciation is the appreciation of his relation to the dead poets and artists. You cannot value him alone; you must set him, for contrast and comparison, among the dead. #Quote by T. S. Eliot
Individual quotes by Tom Robbins
#21. A lot of life boils down to the question of whether a person is going to be able to realize his fantasies, or else end up surviving only through compromises he can't face up to. The way I figure it, Heaven and Hell are right here on Earth. Heaven is living in your hopes and Hell is living in your fears. It's up to each individual which one he chooses. - Bonanza Jellybean #Quote by Tom Robbins
Individual quotes by Dalai Lama XIV
#22. Violence is a reaction by short-sighted, out-of-control people. At 81, I believe it cannot be resolved through prayers or government help. We have to begin the change at individual level and then move on to neighbourhood and society. #Quote by Dalai Lama XIV
Individual quotes by Jean De La Bruyere
#23. The regeneration of society is the regeneration of society by individual education. #Quote by Jean De La Bruyere
Individual quotes by Louis Cozolino
#24. Wise elders will likely be those individuals who stay both mentally and physically vital throughout life. #Quote by Louis Cozolino
Individual quotes by Ted Danson
#25. How much do you engage yourself in what's truly real and important in life? That's the individual question. #Quote by Ted Danson
Individual quotes by Beth Houston
#26. Deists, not religious authoritarians, codified the clear separation of church from state in addition to the division of powers within the state. Deists, not the Continental philosophers, established our democratic republic upon uniquely radical interpretations of constitutional and procedural stability, representation, accountability, and transparency. Deists, not autocrats, formed a more perfect Union that preserved equally for each individual the universal civil liberties inscribed in the Bill of Rights. It was Deists who stood up for Everyman by instituting true equality and freedom for all. #Quote by Beth Houston
Individual quotes by Michael Lewis
#27. Individual Greeks are delightful: funny, warm, smart, and good company. I left two dozen interviews saying to myself, "What great people!" They do not share the sentiment about one another: the hardest thing to do in Greece is to get one Greek to compliment another behind his back. No success of any kind is regarded without suspicion. Everyone is pretty sure everyone is cheating on his taxes, or bribing politicians, or taking bribes, or lying about the value of his real estate. And this total absence of faith in one another is self-reinforcing. The epidemic of lying and cheating and stealing makes any sort of civic life impossible; the collapse of civic life only encourages more lying, cheating, and stealing. Lacking faith in one another, they fall back on themselves and their families. #Quote by Michael Lewis
Individual quotes by Julian Seifter
#28. You are not your illness. You have an individual story to tell. You have a name, a history, a personality. Staying yourself is part of the battle. #Quote by Julian Seifter
Individual quotes by Witold Gombrowicz
#29. The individual is a nut so impossible to crack that no theoretic tooth will be able to manage it. And so nothing will be able to justify your defeat, bumblers! #Quote by Witold Gombrowicz
Individual quotes by Osho
#30. The Real Self is dangerous: dangerous to the established church, dangerous to the state, dangerous to the crowd, dangerous to tradition, because once a man knows his real self, he becomes an individual. #Quote by Osho
Individual quotes by C. G. Jung
#31. And just as the typical neurotic is unconscious of his shadow side, so the normal individual, like the neurotic, sees his shadow in his neighbour or in the man beyond the great divide. #Quote by C. G. Jung
Individual quotes by Francois Truffaut
#32. There are two kinds of directors; those who have the public in mind when they conceive and make their films and those who don't consider the public at all. For the former, cinema is an art of spectacle; for the latter, it is an individual adventure. There is nothing intrinsically better about one or the other; it's simply a matter of different approaches. For Hitchcock as for Renoir, as for that matter almost all American directors, a film has not succeeded unless it is a success, that is, unless it touches the public that one has had in mind right from the moment of choosing the subject matter to the end of production. While Bresson, Tati, Rossellini, Ray make films their own way and then invite the public to join the "game," Renoir, Clouzot, Hitchcock and Hawks make movies for the public, and ask themselves all the questions they think will interest their audience. Alfred Hitchcock, who is a remarkably intelligent man, formed the habit early--right from the start of his career in England--of predicting each aspect of his films. All his life he has worked to make his own tastes coincide with the public', emphasizing humor in his English period and suspense in his American period. This dosage of humor and suspense has made Hitchcock one of the most commercial directors in the world (his films regularly bring in four times what they cost). It is the strict demands he makes on himself and on his art that have made him a great director. #Quote by Francois Truffaut
Individual quotes by Hayden Fry
#33. We probably spend more time talking about individual players in our coaching sessions than anything else. #Quote by Hayden Fry
Individual quotes by Mary Roach
#34. The driving aesthetic of military style is uniformity. Whence the word uniform. From first inspection to Arlington National Cemetery, soldiers look like those around them: same hat, same boots, identical white grave marker. They are discouraged from looking unique, because that would encourage them to feel unique, to feel like an individual. The problem with individuals is that they think for themselves and of themselves, rather than for and of their unit. They're the lone goldfish on the old Pepperidge Farm bags, swimming the other way. They're a problem. #Quote by Mary Roach
Individual quotes by Ernest Becker
#35. Man's best efforts seem utterly fallible without appeal to something higher for justification, some conceptual support for the meaning of one's life from a transcendental dimension of some kind. As this belief has to absorb man's basic terror, it cannot be merely abstract but must be rooted in the emotions, in an inner feeling that one is secure in something stronger, larger, more important than one's own strength and life. It is as though one were to say: "My life pulse ebbs, I fade away into oblivion, but "God" (or "It) remains, even grows more glorious with and through my living sacrifice." At least, this feeling is belief at its most effective for the individual. #Quote by Ernest Becker
Individual quotes by William A. Henry III
#36. It is a commonplace observation that liberals believe in the perfectibility of man while conservatives believe in the endurance of original sin. Superficially, that would suggest that conservatives take a more understanding and indulgent view of individual lapses, while liberals take a more harshly judgmental one. In fact, we know, quite the opposite is the case. #Quote by William A. Henry III
Individual quotes by Lauryn Hill
#37. Over-commercialization and its resulting restrictions and limitations can be very damaging and distorting to the inherent nature of the individual. I did not deliberately abandon my fans, nor did I deliberately abandon any responsibilities. #Quote by Lauryn Hill
Individual quotes by Dalai Lama
#38. Each individual has a universal responsibility to shape institutions to serve human needs. #Quote by Dalai Lama
Individual quotes by Peter Thiel
#39. in order to be happy, every individual needs to have goals whose attainment requires effort.

Kaczynski argued that modern people are depressed because all the world's hard problems have already been solved. What's left to do is either easy or impossible, and pursuing those tasks is deeply unsatisfying. What you can do, even a child can do; what you can't do, even Einstein couldn't have done. #Quote by Peter Thiel
Individual quotes by Carre Otis
#40. But I would assert that despite the wide variety of yoga options and individual preferences, there is one universal element: the union of consciousness and movement, breath and awareness. #Quote by Carre Otis
Individual quotes by Barack Obama
#41. Around the world, Gandhi, Nelson Mandela
what they did was hard. It takes time. It takes more than a single term. It takes more than a single president. It takes more than a single individual. #Quote by Barack Obama
Individual quotes by Mahesh Bhupathi
#42. I think that tennis has been in a place for many years without any change. Davis Cup and Fed Cup has always been a very exciting platform for players because it is such an individual sport, and we get to play a team competition. We love being part of a team. #Quote by Mahesh Bhupathi
Individual quotes by Kurt Angle
#43. The Olympics is not really about the sport, it's about the story behind the person. You keep the sport relatively simple to understand - let the fans understand that a takedown is 1 point, a turn is 2, a pin and the match is over. Keep it simple, and keep the story on the individual. #Quote by Kurt Angle
Individual quotes by Paulo Coelho
#44. Knowing someone's name meant knowing that the other person was a human being and not "the enemy." Knowing someone's name transformed him into a unique and special individual, with a past and a future, with ancestors and possibly descendants, a person who has known triumphs and failures. People are their names; they're proud of them; they repeat them thousands of times in their lifetime and identify with them. It's the first word they learn after "Daddy" and "Mummy. #Quote by Paulo Coelho
Individual quotes by Friedrich Nietzsche
#45. Those moralists, on the other hand, who, following in the footsteps of Socrates, offer the individual a morality of self-control and temperance as a means to his own advantage, as his personal key to happiness, are the exceptions. #Quote by Friedrich Nietzsche
Individual quotes by Nicolas Barreau
#46. When you get a little older, there comes a time when you realise thats whats called happiness consists only of individual lovely moments, those special times that you remember later on. #Quote by Nicolas Barreau
Individual quotes by Sandra Rogers
#47. The myth that morality and fidelity are old-fashioned and trite can imprison more than just one individual as generations are affected by the choices perpetuated by this lie. The myth that withholding judgment or having charity means that all values are relative and should be given equal importance or loyalty creates a heavy chain that eventually traps a person in doubt and disaffection, leaving him or her to be constantly "driven with the wind and tossed" (see James 1:6). However, confidence that Christ honors those who honor him (see 1 Samuel 2:30) provides an anchor to our souls (see Ether 12:4) whereby we are capable of giving affirmative answers to those who question the "reason of the hope that is in [us]" (1 Peter 3:15). I remember one of my saddest moments as a faculty member at BYU. One of my students came to me in emotional tatters. She had come to BYU looking for a supportive community that shared her values, something she had not enjoyed being the only Mormon in her high school. Instead her peers at BYU teased, sneered at, and demeaned her because she was not willing to watch an R-rated movie. How proud I was of her! Despite the hurt of rejection "by her own," her faith carried her through the social prison created by her peers. To "stand in holy places, and be not moved" (D&C 87:8) in today's world requires faith, courage, poise, and patience. #Quote by Sandra Rogers
Individual quotes by Paul Caponigro
#48. Under all of the factors that make up the art world, it's up to the individual artist to discern which of those influences are present and at what time and what really serves the deeper process that is constantly running like a stream underground. Influence is incessant. Influence is a fact. But, carry a big shovel and dig constantly to clear away all the unessentials so that the origins of mystery and the poetic force of life can get into and inspire the work. #Quote by Paul Caponigro
Individual quotes by Martin Luther King, Jr.
#49. No one can pretend that because a people may be oppressed, every individual member is virtuous and worthy. #Quote by Martin Luther King, Jr.
Individual quotes by Jerry Rice
#50. You know, I never looked down the road and said, 'Hey look, one day, the Hall of Fame.' It's always about playing each and every game 100 percent and I thank my teammates for getting me into the Hall because football is a team sport, not an individual sport. #Quote by Jerry Rice
Individual quotes by Benito Mussolini
#51. Against individualism, the Fascist conception is for the State ... Liberalism denied the State in the interests of the particular individual; Fascism reaffirms the State as the true reality of the individual. #Quote by Benito Mussolini
Individual quotes by Friedrich August Von Hayek
#52. What a free society offers to the individual is much more than what he would be able to do if only he were free. #Quote by Friedrich August Von Hayek
Individual quotes by William James
#53. The community stagnates without the impulse of the individual. The impulse dies away without the sympathy of the community. #Quote by William James
Individual quotes by Eric Holder
#54. No individual or company, no matter how large or how profitable, is above the law. #Quote by Eric Holder
Individual quotes by Julius Nyerere
#55. Having come into contact with a civilization which has over-emphasized the freedom of the individual, we are in fact faced with one of the big problems of Africa in the modern world. Our problem is just this: how to get the benefits of European society - benefits that have been brought about by an organization based upon the individual - and yet retain African's own structure of society in which the individual is a member of a kind of fellowship. #Quote by Julius Nyerere
Individual quotes by Robert M. Sapolsky
#56. Testosterone has far less to do with aggression than most assume. Within the normal range, individual differences in testosterone levels don't predict who will be aggressive. Moreover, the more an organism has been aggressive, the less testosterone is needed for further aggression. When testosterone does play a role, it's facilitatory - testosterone does not 'invent' aggression. It makes us more sensitive to triggers of aggression. Also, rising testosterone levels foster aggression only during challenges to status. Finally, crucially, the rise in testosterone during a status challenge does not necessarily increase aggression; it increases whatever is needed to maintain status. In a world in which status is awarded for the best of our behaviors, testosterone would be the most prosocial hormone in existence. #Quote by Robert M. Sapolsky
Individual quotes by Maria Bartiromo
#57. Individual investors have become far more powerful than anyone gives them credit for. Today, 85 million Americans invest in stocks. Collectively, that kind of buying and selling power can move markets. #Quote by Maria Bartiromo
Individual quotes by Justin Vernon
#58. The way I see it is that I grew up with a good set of values, but it was never too strict. I was always encouraged to be a free-thinking individual. I spent the first five years out of high school trying to make it work in Eau Claire, then I had to leave because there wasn't enough going on in town. #Quote by Justin Vernon
Individual quotes by Arthur Schopenhauer
#59. [I]t is fundamentally false that our search for higher grounds of knowledge, more general truths, springs from the presupposition of an object unconditioned in its being [i.e., Kant's principle of reason], or has anything whatever in common with this. Moreover, how should it be essential to the reason to presuppose something which it must know to be an absurdity as soon as it reflects? The source of that conception of the unconditioned is rather to be found only in the indolence of the individual who wishes by means of it to get rid of all further questions, whether his own or of others, though entirely without justification. #Quote by Arthur Schopenhauer
Individual quotes by Benjamin Graham
#60. The thing that I have been emphasizing in my own work for the last few years has been the group approach. To try to buy groups of stocks that meet some simple criterion for being undervalued-regardless of the industry and with very little attention to the individual company. #Quote by Benjamin Graham
Individual quotes by Emile Zola
#61. Art for me ... is a negation of society, an affirmation of the individual, outside of all the rules and all the demands of society. #Quote by Emile Zola
Individual quotes by Suzette Boon
#62. Dissociative parts of the personality are not actually separate identities or personalities in one body, but rather parts of a single individual that are not yet functioning together in a smooth, coordinated, flexible way. P14 #Quote by Suzette Boon
Individual quotes by Bill Viola
#63. Revolution is something that actually starts in individual hearts. #Quote by Bill Viola
Individual quotes by Charles K. Kao
#64. When information is infinite, individual pieces of information are worth nothing. #Quote by Charles K. Kao
Individual quotes by Ronald Carter

Had we but world enough, and time,
This coyness, lady, were no crime

(Andrew Marvell, To His Coy Mistress)

While theatre was the most public literary form of the period, poetry tended to be more personal, more private. Indeed, it was often published for only a limited circle of readers. This was true of Shakespeare's sonnets, as we have seen, and even more so for the Metaphysical poets, whose works were published mostly after their deaths. John Donne and George Herbert are the most significant of these poets.
The term 'Metaphysical' was used to describe their work by the eighteenth-century critic, Samuel Johnson. He intended the adjective to be pejorative. He attacked the poets' lack of feeling, their learning, and the surprising range of images and comparisons they used. Donne and Herbert were certainly very innovative poets, but the term 'Metaphysical' is only a label, which is now used to describe the modern impact of their writing. After three centuries of neglect and disdain, the Metaphysical poets have come to be very highly regarded and have been influential in recent British poetry and criticism. They used contemporary scientific discoveries and theories, the topical debates on humanism, faith, and eternity, colloquial speech-based rhythms, and innovative verse forms, to examine the relationship between the individual, his God, and the universe. Their 'conceits', metaphors and images, paradoxes and inte #Quote by Ronald Carter
Individual quotes by Langston Hughes
#66. We younger Negro artists who create now intend to express our individual dark-skinned selves without fear or shame. If white people are pleased, we are glad. If they are not, it doesn't matter. We know we are beautiful. And ugly too. #Quote by Langston Hughes
Individual quotes by Iris Murdoch
#67. I have used the word "attention," which I borrow from Simone Weil, to express the idea of a just and loving gaze directed upon individual reality. I believe this to be the characteristic and proper mark of the active moral agent. #Quote by Iris Murdoch
Individual quotes by Louis D. Brandeis
#68. In every such case, the individual is entitled to decide that which is his... shall be given to the public. #Quote by Louis D. Brandeis
Individual quotes by Benson Grayson
#69. Among the many who fruitlessly attempted thoughout history to create a time machine, one individual actually succeeded. He was surprisingly not a human. #Quote by Benson Grayson
Individual quotes by Bruno Tonioli
#70. I always sleep on my own. I can't sleep with somebody else. Always separate bedrooms, bathrooms and closets. I'm very individual and I want my own space. #Quote by Bruno Tonioli
Individual quotes by T. J. Miller
#71. I consider myself a fairly ethical individual while I do have a lot of dichotomies within me. We're all victims of our own hypocrisy at times. #Quote by T. J. Miller
Individual quotes by Francis De Gaston, Chevalier De Levis
#72. To judge of the real importance of the individual, we should think of the effect his death would produce. #Quote by Francis De Gaston, Chevalier De Levis
Individual quotes by Marquis De Sade
#73. Those laws, being forged for universal application, are in perpetual conflict with personal interest, just as personal interest is always in contradiction with the general interest. Good for society, our laws are very bad for the individuals whereof it is composed; for, if they one time protect the individual, they hinder, trouble, fetter him for three quarters of his life. #Quote by Marquis De Sade
Individual quotes by E. M. Forster
#74. I believe in teaching people to be individuals, and to understand other individuals. #Quote by E. M. Forster
Individual quotes by Darío Fernández-Morera
#75. Those who portray Islamic Spain as an example of peaceful coexistence frequently cite the fact that Muslim, Jewish, and Christian groups in al-Andalus sometimes lived near one another. Even when that was the case, however such groups dwelled more often than not in their own neighborhoods. More to the point: even when individual Muslims, Jews, and Christians cooperated with one another out of convenience, necessity, mutual sympathy, or love, these three groups and their own numerous subgroups engaged for centuries in struggles for power and cultural survival, manifested in often subtle ways that should not be glossed over for the sake of modern ideals of tolerance, diversity, and convivencia. #Quote by Darío Fernández-Morera
Individual quotes by Michel Pastoureau
#76. Some bears are sold for amazing sums at auction. An example is a very old stuffed individual named Mabel that had belonged to Elvis Presley (as a child or an adult?) and had been sold at auction several times after the King's death; it was made in the Steiff workshop in 1909. Its end was exceedingly sinister. Lent by its owner for an exhibition of stuffed bears in Wells, England, in which it was to be the star attraction, it provoked a hatred or jealousy of a young Doberman accompanying the night watchman after the first day of the exhibition. The dog seized the precious relic and furiously bit and clawed it to pieces. (252) #Quote by Michel Pastoureau
Individual quotes by Ben Carson
#77. made more than a century ago? Certain individuals feel that the United States cannot be forgiven for slavery until reparations are made to the descendants of slaves. This belief goes back to Mosaic laws requiring anyone who caused harm to someone else to make reparations to that individual or to the family if the #Quote by Ben Carson
Individual quotes by John Polson
#78. Australians love to pump you up when you're nobody. Then, when you start to put your head above water and say, 'Well, actually, I am a bit different, I am an individual and I do have a particular talent', or whatever, they want to go after you. But the good news is that once you reach a certain level, I think they start to leave you alone. #Quote by John Polson
Individual quotes by Siddhartha Mukherjee
#79. The problem with racial discrimination, though, is not the inference of a person's race from their genetic characteristics. It is quite the opposite: it is the inference of a person's characteristics from their race. The question is not, can you, given an individual's skin color, hair texture, or language, infer something about their ancestry or origin. That is a question of biological systematics -- of lineage, taxonomy, of racial geography, of biological discrimination. Of course you can -- and genomics as vastly refined that inference. You can scan any individual genome and infer rather deep insights about a person's ancestry, or place of origin. But the vastly more controversial question is the converse: Given a racial identity -- African or Asian, say -- can you infer anything about an individual's characteristics: not just skin or hair color, but more complex features, such as intelligence, habits, personality, and aptitude? /I/ Genes can certainly tell us about race, but can race tell us anything about genes? /i/

To answer this question, we need to measure how genetic variation is distributed across various racial categories. Is there more diversity _within_ races or _between_ races? Does knowing that someone is of African versus European descent, say, allow us to refine our understanding of their genetic traits, or their personal, physical, or intellectual attributes in a meaningful manner? Or is there so much variation within Africans and Europeans that _i #Quote by Siddhartha Mukherjee
Individual quotes by Albert Schweitzer
#80. By itself the affirmation of life can only produce a partial and imperfect civilization. Only if it turns inward and becomes ethical can the will to progress attain the ability to distinguish the valuable from the worthless. We must therefore strive for a civilization that is not based on the accretion of science and power alone, but which cares most of all for the spiritual and ethical development of the individual and of humankind. How #Quote by Albert Schweitzer
Individual quotes by Hazrat Inayat Khan
#81. The true use of music is to become musical in one's thoughts, words and actions. One should be able to give the harmony for which the soul yearns and longs every moment. All the tragedy in the world, in the individual and in the multitude, comes from lack of harmony, and harmony is best given by producing it in one's own life. #Quote by Hazrat Inayat Khan
Individual quotes by J.C. Cooper
#82. Next to the dragon, and connected with it, water is the most frequently used symbol in Taosim. It is the strength in apparent weakness, the fluidity of life, an also symbolic of the state of coolness of judgment, acceptance and passionlessness, as opposed to the heat of argument, the friction of opposition, and the emotion of desire. Water fertilizes, refreshes and purifies and it is symbolic of gentle persuasion in government of the state and the individual. It occupies the lowest position, yet is the most powerful of forces. The highest goodness in like water. #Quote by J.C. Cooper
Individual quotes by Jeffrey R. Holland
#83. In such times as we are in, whether the threats be global or local or in individual lives, I too pray for the children. Some days it seems that a sea of temptation and transgression inundates them, simply washes over them before they can successfully withstand it, before they should have to face it. And often at least some of the forces at work seem beyond our personal control. Well, some of them may be beyond our control, but I testify with faith in the living God that they are not beyond His. #Quote by Jeffrey R. Holland
Individual quotes by Dwight D. Eisenhower
#84. In this hope, among the things we teach to the young are such truths as the transcendent value of the individual and the dignity of all people, the futility and stupidity of war, its destructiveness of life and its degradation of human values. #Quote by Dwight D. Eisenhower
Individual quotes by Jim Lewis
#85. one motion of individual want sends trembles around a circle of dependents, until the whole helpless ring knocks and shakes like a tray of wineglasses in an unsteady waiter's hands. Any music they make is random, involuntary and brief; one can't be still unless they all are, and they never are. #Quote by Jim Lewis
Individual quotes by Fyodor Dostoyevsky
#86. When he realizes that he is not only worse than others, but that he is responsible to all men for all and everything, for all human sins, national and individual, only then the aim of our seclusion is attained. For know, dear ones, that every one of us is undoubtedly responsible for all men and everything on earth, not merely through the general sinfulness of creation, but each one personally for all mankind and every individual man. #Quote by Fyodor Dostoyevsky
Individual quotes by Sheila Jeffreys
#87. Men's sexual freedom has depended, and still does to a large extent, upon their ownership of women's bodies. Men have bought, sold and traded women as things to be used. Women are still regularly raped in marriage, even though most Western countries have now changed their laws to recognize that wives have a right not to be raped. Women are still bought and sold in marriage in many countries, and in the vast majority of countries of the world their bodies are still legally owned by their husbands. In prostitution and pornography, the mail-order bride business and reproductive surrogacy, the international trade in women is a burgeoning industry. Men's ownership of women's bodies has been the substrate on which their idea of sexual freedom was born and given its meaning. This is why it includes the right to buy access to women, men, and children as an important way of demonstrating that freedom. At the base of men's sexual freedom agenda is the concept of the rights of the male individual. Pateman points out that women cannot gain recognition as individuals, since the very concept of the 'individual' is male. #Quote by Sheila Jeffreys
Individual quotes by Phillips Brooks
#88. Society does not exist for itself, but for the individual; and man goes into it, not to lose, but to find himself. #Quote by Phillips Brooks
Individual quotes by Thomas Paine
#89. Liberty and Property are words expressing all those of our possessions which are not of an intellectual nature. There are two kinds of property. Firstly, natural property, or that which comes to us from the Creator of the universe-such as the earth, air, water. Secondly, artificial or acquired property-the invention of men. In the latter, equality is impossible; for to distribute it equally it would be necessary that all should have contributed in the same proportion, which can never be the case; and this being the case, every individual would hold on to his own property, as his right share. Equality of natural property is the subject of this little essay. Every individual in the world is born therein with legitimate claims on a certain kind of property, or its equivalent. -Agrarian Justice #Quote by Thomas Paine
Individual quotes by Chuck Hagel
#90. No one individual vote, no one individual quote or no one individual statement defines me, my beliefs, or my record. #Quote by Chuck Hagel
Individual quotes by John W. Gardner
#91. The creative individual is particularly gifted in seeing the gap between what is and what could be. #Quote by John W. Gardner
Individual quotes by Richard Betts
#92. Duane Allman was one of the best there ever was ... when you listen to him, you are hearing a truly gifted individual giving his all to the music, and there is nothing better than that. Duane played music the same way that he rode his motorcycle and drove his car .. he was a daredevil, just triple Scorpio, God's-on-my-side wide open ... that was part of the romance and I loved Duane. I have nothing but admiration for him #Quote by Richard Betts
Individual quotes by Jane McGonigal
#93. We mistakenly think that by putting ourselves first, we'll finally get what we want. In fact, true happiness comes not from thinking more of ourselves, but rather from thinking less of ourselves - from seeing the truly small role we play in something much bigger, much more important than our individual needs. #Quote by Jane McGonigal
Individual quotes by Elizabeth Janeway
#94. Television. It has changed the way that we perceive the world out there, and though we know that - have indeed been bombarded with analyses on the consequences for society, for the family, and for individual psychology - I don't believe that we have yet begun to appreciate the reach of its subliminal effects, of what we might call 'the slow viruses.' They not only get into our ways of seeing, they pervade the ways in which we weave our perceptions together into patterns that support and explain our thinking and our doing and both direct and hinder various kinds of relationships. #Quote by Elizabeth Janeway
Individual quotes by Isadora Duncan
#95. Dance is the movement of the universe concentrated in an individual. #Quote by Isadora Duncan
Individual quotes by Beryl Bender Birch
#96. I really think there's an evolution to the practice and the individual no matter what brings you in, whether it's wine and yoga or chocolate and yoga or surfing and yoga ... #Quote by Beryl Bender Birch
Individual quotes by Nicholas Murray Butler
#97. The fifth freedom, the Freedom of Individual Enterprise, is the keystone of the arch on which the other Four Freedoms rest. This is what freedom means. #Quote by Nicholas Murray Butler
Individual quotes by William J. Brennan
#98. While the machinery of law enforcement and indeed the nature of crime itself have changed dramatically since the Fourth Amendment became part of the Nation's fundamental law in 1791, what the Framers understood then remains true today - that the task of combating crime and convicting the guilty will in every era seem of such critical and pressing concern that we may be lured by the temptations of expediency into forsaking our commitment to protecting individual liberty and privacy. #Quote by William J. Brennan
Individual quotes by Christina Engela
#99. Because freedom and liberty and equality are as vital as breath, we only notice their absence when we are left gasping when the colors of diversity and individual liberty are drained from the world around us. #Quote by Christina Engela
Individual quotes by Paul Goodman
#100. To learn theory by experimenting and doing.
To learn belonging by participating and self-rule.
Permissiveness in all animal behavior and interpersonal expression.
Emphasis on individual differences.
Unblocking and training feeling by plastic arts, eurythmics and dramatics.
Tolerance of races, classes, and cultures.
Group therapy as a means of solidarity, in the staff meeting and community meeting.
Taking youth seriously as an age in itself.
Community of youth and adults, minimizing 'authority.'
Educational use of the actual physical plant (buildings and farms) and the culture of the school community.
Emphasis in the curriculum on real problems and wider society, its geography and history, with actual participation in the neighboring community (village or city).
Trying for functional interrelation of activities. #Quote by Paul Goodman
Individual quotes by Vaclav Havel
#101. You may ask what kind of a republic I dream of. Let me reply: I dream of a republic independent, free, and democratic, of a republic economically prosperous and yet socially just; in short, of a humane republic which serves the individual and which therefore holds the hope that the individual will serve it in turn. Of a republic of well-rounded people, because without such it is impossible to solve any of our problems, human, economic, ecological, social, or political. #Quote by Vaclav Havel
Individual quotes by Stuart D.B. Picken
#102. Purification in Shinto lifts the burden from the shoulders of the individual and washes it away. #Quote by Stuart D.B. Picken
Individual quotes by J. Paul Getty
#103. It has always been my contention that an individual who can be relied upon to be himself and to be honest unto himself can be relied upon in every other way. #Quote by J. Paul Getty
Individual quotes by Rainer Maria Rilke
#104. Love at first has nothing to do with unfolding, abandon and uniting with another person (for what would be the sense in a union of what is unrefined and unfinished, still second order?); for the individual it is a grand opportunity to mature, to become something in himself, to become a world, to become a world in himself for another's sake; it is a great immoderate demand made upon the self, something that singles him out and summons him to vast designs. #Quote by Rainer Maria Rilke
Individual quotes by Eugene V. Debs
#105. Why should the railroad employees be parceled out among a score of different organizations? They are all employed in the same service. Their interests are mutual. They ought to be able to act together as one. But they divide according to craft and calling, and if you were to propose today to unite them that they might actually do something to advance their collective and individual interests as workers, you would be opposed by every grand officer of these organizations. #Quote by Eugene V. Debs
Individual quotes by Muhammad Iqbal
#106. The standpoint of the man who relies on religious experience for capturing Reality must always remain individual and incommunicable. #Quote by Muhammad Iqbal
Individual quotes by Karl Marx
#107. National differences and antagonisms between peoples are daily more and more vanishing, owing to the development of the bourgeoisie, to freedom of commerce, to the world-market, to uniformity in the mode of production and in the conditions of life corresponding thereto.
The supremacy of the proletariat will cause them to vanish still faster. United action, of the leading civilized countries at least, is one of the first conditions for the emancipation of the proletariat.
In proportion as the exploitation of one individual by another is put an end to, the exploitation of one nation by another will also be put an end to. In proportion as the antagonism between classes within the nation vanishes, the hostility of one nation to another will come to an end. #Quote by Karl Marx
Individual quotes by Mark Fisher
#108. [I]t is a mistake to rush to impose the individual ethical responsibility that the corporate structure deflects. This is the temptation of the ethical which, as Zizek has argued, the capitalist system is using in order to protect itself in the wake of the credit crisis - the blame will be put on supposedly pathological individuals, those' abusing the system', rather than on the system itself. But the evasion is actually a two step procedure - since structure will often be invoked (either implicitly or openly) precisely at the point when there is the possibility of individuals who belong to the corporate structure being punished. At this point, suddenly, the causes of abuse or atrocity are so systemic, so diffuse, that no individual can be held responsible… But this impasse - it is only individuals that can be held ethically responsible for actions, and yet the cause of these abuses and errors is corporate, systemic - is not only a dissimulation: it precisely indicates what is lacking in capitalism. What agencies are capable of regulating and controlling impersonal structures? How is it possible to chastise a corporate structure? Yes, corporations can legally be treated as individuals - but the problem is that corporations, whilst certainly entities, are not like individual humans, and any analogy between punishing corporations and punishing individuals will therefore necessarily be poor. And it is not as if corporations are the deep-level agents behind everything; they are th #Quote by Mark Fisher
Individual quotes by Karel Capek
#109. Everyone has the best of feelings towards mankind in general, but not towards the individual man. We'll kill men, but we want to save mankind. And that isn't right, your Reverence. The world will be an evil place as long as people don't believe in other people. #Quote by Karel Capek
Individual quotes by Nancy Duarte
#110. My best advice is to not start in PowerPoint. Presentation tools force you to think through information linearly, and you really need to start by thinking of the whole instead of the individual lines. #Quote by Nancy Duarte
Individual quotes by Edward Kennedy
#111. The real transgression occurs when religion wants government to tell citizens how to live uniquely personal parts of their lives. The failure of Prohibition proves the futility of such an attempt when a majority or even a substantial minority happens to disagree. Some questions may be inherently individual ones, or people may be sharply divided about whether they are. In such cases, like Prohibition and abortion, the proper role of religion is to appeal to the conscience of the individual, not the coercive power of the state. #Quote by Edward Kennedy
Individual quotes by Tom Robbins
#112. For all the ugly vices that capitalism encourages, it's at least interesting, exciting, it offers possiblities. In America, the struggle is at least an individual struggle. And if the individual has strength enough of character, salt enough of wit, the alternatives are thicker than polyesters in a car salesman's closet. In a socialistic system, you're no better or no worse than anybody else.'
But that's equality!'
Bullshit. Unromantic, unattractive bullshit. Equality is not in regarding different things similarly, equality is in regarding different things differently. #Quote by Tom Robbins
Individual quotes by Buck Brannaman
#113. As far as horses go, people will ask about one breed versus another. I have to tell you, I really don't have any prejudice one way or another. I treat every horse at face value, how he/she is as an individual. #Quote by Buck Brannaman
Individual quotes by Wade Schalles
#114. Winners expect to win before the contest starts; losers don't. Any individual becomes what he or she thinks about most. If you want to be a champion, then that thought must dominate your life. But most important, winners dwell on the rewards of winning; losers dwell on the penalties of failure. #Quote by Wade Schalles
Individual quotes by Stefan Zweig
#115. The Battle of Waterloo is a work of art with tension and drama with its unceasing change from hope to fear and back again, changewhich suddenly dissolves into a moment of extreme catastrophe, a model tragedy because the fate of Europe was determined within this individual fate. #Quote by Stefan Zweig
Individual quotes by Ernest Becker
#116. We said it is impossible for man to feel "right" in any straightforward way, and now we can see why. He can expand his self-feeling not only by Agape merger but also by the other ontological motive Eros, the urge for more life, for exciting experience, for the development of the self-powers, for developing the uniqueness of the individual creature, the impulsion to stick out of nature and shine. Life is, after all, a challenge to the creature, a fascinating opportunity to expand. Psychologically it is the urge for individuation: how do I realize my distinctive gifts, make my own contribution to the world through my own self-expansion? #Quote by Ernest Becker
Individual quotes by Alan Jacobs
#117. So let me conclude this chapter with a celebration of splitting--of the disciplined, principled preference for rejecting categories whenever we discern them at work. Again, this is not to say that we can live without them, but rather that we need to cultivate skepticism as a first response. The group solidarity matters to almost all of us in one way or another--it is the stuff of which both inner rings and genuine membership are made--on some fundamental level, as Dorothy Sayers once wrote, "What is repugnant to every human being is to be reckoned always as a member of a class and not as an individual person." The key word there is always: to be " a member of a class" Is sometimes useful, often necessary, but intolerably offensive as a universal practice. #Quote by Alan Jacobs
Individual quotes by Ezra Taft Benson
#118. By deriving it's just powers from the governed, government becomes primarily a mechanism for defense against bodily harm, theft, and involuntary servitude. It cannot claim the power to redistribute money or property nor to force reluctant citizens to perform acts of charity against their will. Government is created by the people. No individual possesses the power to take another's wealth or to force others to do good, so no government has the the right to do such things either. The creature cannot exceed the creator. #Quote by Ezra Taft Benson
Individual quotes by Helga Drummond
#119. It is easy to understand why groups can fail. Bringing people together, giving them objectives and bidding them to work like a team regardless of body chemistry may not bring out the best in them. Moreover, almost all groups carry passengers. In a famous experiment, Max Ringelmann, a German psychologist, found that as more people joined a rope-pulling team, the average effort expended by individual team members fell. Indeed, studies of group behaviour reveal that most of the work in groups is done by a third of the membership.1 #Quote by Helga Drummond
Individual quotes by Bill Bradley
#120. We need to get beyond the politics of the moment, the deficit of the hour, the military count of the day, the numbers that rarely shape events. Our long-term interests must be in people and in the values of democracy and individual liberty. #Quote by Bill Bradley
Individual quotes by Thomas S. Monson
#121. The goal of gospel teaching ... is not to 'pour information' into the minds of class members ... The aim is to inspire the individual to think about, feel about, and then do something about living gospel principles. #Quote by Thomas S. Monson
Individual quotes by Debbie Macomber
#122. I generally read every night befi=ore I fall asleep: Brad does too. I find it comforting to lie beside my husband, each of us with a book in our hands. I see it as a period of calm and intimacy, and as the perfect metaphor-together, yet individual-for our marriage. #Quote by Debbie Macomber
Individual quotes by Jonathan D. Morris
#123. We talk about democracy as if it's a safeguard for individual rights ... Instead, it's become our way of intruding on rights, allegedly in the name of that most collectivist of concepts: The Common Good. #Quote by Jonathan D. Morris
Individual quotes by Ayn Rand
#124. When numbers are substituted for morality, and no individual can claim a right, but any gang can assert any desire whatever, when compromise is the only policy expected of those in power, and the preservation of the moment's "stability," of peace at any price, is their only goal - the winner, necessarily, is whoever presents the most unjust and irrational demands; the system serves as an open invitation to do so. #Quote by Ayn Rand
Individual quotes by John Lydon
#125. I like lime-flavoured yoghurt. The end. There is no religion. It's a man-made fabrication. Once you understand that, you'll be a happier individual. Atheism is as pointless as satanism. #Quote by John Lydon
Individual quotes by James Madison
#126. [In government] the constant aim is to divide and arrange the several offices in such a manner as that each may be a check on the other-that the private interest of every individual may be a sentinel over the public rights. #Quote by James Madison
Individual quotes by Margaret Thatcher
#127. I think we have gone through a period when too many children and people have been given to understand 'I have a problem, it is the government's job to cope with it!' or 'I have a problem, I will go and get a grant to cope with it!'; 'I am homeless, the government must house me!' and so they are casting their problems on society and who is society?
"There is no such thing! There are individual men and women and there are families, and no government can do anything except through people and people look to themselves first.
"It is our duty to look after ourselves and then also to help look after our neighbour and life is a reciprocal business and people have got the entitlements too much in mind without the obligations. #Quote by Margaret Thatcher
Individual quotes by Lupita Nyong'o
#128. I learned at Yale, one of the biggest lessons was to learn how special I am and therefore how totally unspecial I am. I was special among everyone else who was special. The fact that we're all so individual and that's what makes us special. #Quote by Lupita Nyong'o
Individual quotes by Marie Calloway
#129. The second guy I met on the Internet was Tom, who I dated for around 6 months, which is by far the longest relationship I've ever had as an adult. We long distance dated mostly, chatting everyday for a long time on FB chat and Skype. It's hard to imagine a more genuinely caring and kind individual. I owe a lot to him. #Quote by Marie Calloway
Individual quotes by Eyvind Kang
#130. I love the appropriateness of making a dogmatic statement. I support that, but that is a different level of the individual consciousness than was the source of our music. #Quote by Eyvind Kang
Individual quotes by Charlotte Bronte
#131. I again felt rather like an individual of but average gastronomical powers, sitting down to feast alone at a table spread with provisions for a hundred. #Quote by Charlotte Bronte
Individual quotes by Cathy O'Neil
#132. Racism, at the individual level, can be seen as a predictive model whirring away in billions of human minds around the world. It is built from faulty, incomplete, or generalized data. Whether it comes from experience or hearsay, the data indicates that certain types of people have behaved badly. That generates a binary prediction that all people of that race will behave that same way. Needless to say, racists don't spend a lot of time hunting down reliable data to train their twisted models. And once their model morphs into a belief, it becomes hardwired. It generates poisonous assumptions, yet rarely tests them, settling instead for data that seems to confirm and fortify them. Consequently, racism is the most slovenly of predictive models. It is powered by haphazard data gathering and spurious correlations, reinforced by institutional inequities, and polluted by confirmation bias. #Quote by Cathy O'Neil
Individual quotes by Maxim Gorky
#133. [Politics] is the seedbed of social enmity, evil suspicions, shameless lies, morbid ambitions, and disrespect for the individual. Name anything bad in man, and it is precisely in the soil of political struggle that it grows with abundance. #Quote by Maxim Gorky
Individual quotes by Dwight D. Eisenhower
#134. To have a free, peaceful and prosperous world we must be ever stronger particularly in the spiritual things ... It is American belief in decency and justice and progress and the value of individual liberty because of the rights conferred on each of us by our Creator that willcarry us through ... There must be something in the heart as well as the head. #Quote by Dwight D. Eisenhower
Individual quotes by William James
#135. The war-function has grasped us so far; but the constructive interests may some day seem no less imperative, and impose on the individual a hardly lighter burden. #Quote by William James
Individual quotes by Ludwig Feuerbach
#136. It is not I, but religion that worships man, although religion, or rather theology, denies this; it is not I, an insignificant individual, but religion itself that says: God is man, man is God #Quote by Ludwig Feuerbach
Individual quotes by Rory Stewart
#137. Democracy matters because it reflects an idea of equality and an idea of liberty. It reflects an idea of dignity, the dignity of the individual, the idea that each individual should have an equal vote, an equal say, in the formation of their government. #Quote by Rory Stewart
Individual quotes by T. Colin Campbell
#138. If we limit our sight to individual players, we'll never see the big picture. The issue is a systemic one, maintained by interconnected actors, all acting in their self-interest to further their goals. The trouble is not, or not always, the actors themselves, or their intrinsic motivations. Instead, it's the overarching goal of the entire system that's at fault: corporate profit above public health. #Quote by T. Colin Campbell
Individual quotes by Baruch Spinoza
#139. The more we understand individual things, the more we understand God. #Quote by Baruch Spinoza
Individual quotes by Arthur Schopenhauer
#140. Phil. Look what you are doing! When you say, I - I - I want to exist you alone do not say this, but everything, absolutely everything, that has only a vestige of consciousness. Consequently this desire of yours is just that which is not individual but which is common to all without distinction. #Quote by Arthur Schopenhauer
Individual quotes by Sara Zaske
#141. Nature is not kind; it is not good. Do you really think nature cares about any individual living thing? #Quote by Sara Zaske
Individual quotes by Greg Kinnear
#142. You learn more about a person from the people around that person than you do from the person themselves. We all have our own ideas of who we are that may or may not be justified, and you can really find out a heck of a lot more accurately from the people around an individual. #Quote by Greg Kinnear
Individual quotes by Suzanne Hetts
#143. There are disagreements and conflicts in the relationship, but each individual cares enough about the other to make up and forgive. (Dogs forgive us far easier than we forgive them.) Parents #Quote by Suzanne Hetts
Individual quotes by Mike Klepper
#144. Religious faith is by nature the most fundamental set of beliefs that one can have. It is how a believer views the world, and is how the believer judges himself as well as the other people, things, and events in that world. It colors everything about them. It is for this reason that people who adopt a faith out of convenience appear so phony, and why it is simply not possible for an individual to have a "religion d'jour. #Quote by Mike Klepper
Individual quotes by Erich Fromm
#145. Religion and nationalism, as well as any custom and any belief however absurd and degrading, if it only connects the individual with others, are refuges from what man most dreads: isolation. #Quote by Erich Fromm
Individual quotes by Yuval Noah Harari
#146. Most Westerners today believe in individualism. They believe that every human is an individual, whose worth does not depend on what other people think of him or her. #Quote by Yuval Noah Harari
Individual quotes by H.D.F. Kitto
#147. The city-state was the means by which the Greek consciously strove to make the life both of the community and of the individual more excellent than it was before. #Quote by H.D.F. Kitto
Individual quotes by Charles Krauthammer
#148. Winning control of the Senate would allow Republicans to pass a whole range of measures now being held up by Reid, often at the behest of the White House. Make it a major reform agenda. The centerpiece might be tax reform, both corporate and individual. It is needed, popular and doable. Then go for the low-hanging fruit enjoying wide bipartisan support, such as the Keystone XL pipeline and natural gas exports, most especially to Eastern Europe. One could then add border security, energy deregulation and health-care reform that repeals the more onerous Obamacare mandates. #Quote by Charles Krauthammer
Individual quotes by David Anderson
#149. Actions are merely an indicator of a problem contained deeper in the heart and in the beliefs of a person. Individual racism cannot be changed through legislation but through personal transformation. #Quote by David Anderson
Individual quotes by Rene Dubos
#150. Clearly, health and disease cannot be defined merely in terms of anatomical, physiological, or mental attributes. Their real measure is the ability of the individual to function in a manner acceptable to himself and to the group of which he is a part. #Quote by Rene Dubos
Individual quotes by Eric Shinseki
#151. I have spent a lifetime watching kids make mistakes because they were not trained or well led or properly motivated to do well. I never faulted the kids; rather, I saw opportunity to train, to motivate, to improve leadership - not to punish the individual. #Quote by Eric Shinseki
Individual quotes by Alfred North Whitehead
#152. The importance of an individual thinker owes something to chance. For it depends upon the fate of his ideas in the minds of his successors. #Quote by Alfred North Whitehead
Individual quotes by M.F. Moonzajer
#153. I give no shit to what extent they believe in superstitions and fanaticism. But I will fight till death, if their fallacious belief hurts any individual. #Quote by M.F. Moonzajer
Individual quotes by Hugo Black
#154. The first ten amendments were proposed and adopted largely because of fear that Government might unduly interfere with prized individual liberties. The people wanted and demanded a Bill of Rights written into their Constitution. The amendments embodying the Bill of Rights were intended to curb all branches of the Federal Government in the fields touched by the amendments-Legislative, Executive, and Judicial. #Quote by Hugo Black
Individual quotes by John Muir
#155. In the beauty and grandeur of individual trees, and in number and variety of species, the Sierra forests surpass all others #Quote by John Muir
Individual quotes by Jane Austen
#156. You shall not, for the sake of one individual, change the meaning of principle and integrity, nor endeavour to persuade yourself or me, that selfishness is prudence, and insensibility of danger security for happiness. #Quote by Jane Austen
Individual quotes by Guy Ritchie
#157. We're quite volatile as individuals, but that doesn't work exponentially when we are together. Relationships are about eating humble pie. #Quote by Guy Ritchie
Individual quotes by Robert D. Richardson
#158. Part of the power of Emerson's individualism is his insistence, at crucial moments, that individualism does not mean isolation or self-sufficiency. This is not a paradox, for it is only the strong individual who can frankly concede the sometimes surprising extent of his own dependence. #Quote by Robert D. Richardson
Individual quotes by Adolf Hitler
#159. Reading is not an end in itself, but a means to an end. Its chief purpose is to help towards filling in the framework which is made up of the talents and capabilities that each individual possesses. Thus #Quote by Adolf Hitler
Individual quotes by David Hume
#160. Starting with Martin Luther's rebellion against the Church of Rome in 1517, led to widespread religious wars founded on philosophical differences: one side took Church authority and tradition as the criterion of truth, the other appealed instead to the Spirit of God acting within the individual believer. #Quote by David Hume
Individual quotes by Cornel West
#161. No community dictates to any individual how to live their lives. You can criticize and you can push but people freely choose. #Quote by Cornel West
Individual quotes by Mary Quant
#162. London style is individual. #Quote by Mary Quant
Individual quotes by Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi
#163. I have devoted 30 years of research to how creative people live and work, to make more understandable the mysterious process by which they come up with new ideas and new things. If I had to express in one word what makes their personalities different from others, it's complexity. They show tendencies of thought and action that in most people are segregated. They contain contradictory extremes; instead of being an individual, each of them is a multitude. #Quote by Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi
Individual quotes by Maurice Merleau Ponty
#164. But the spectacle perceived does not partake of pure being. Taken exactly as I see it, it is a moment of my individual history, and since sensation is a reconstitution, it pre-supposes in me sediments left behind by some previous constitution, so that I am, as a sentient subject, a repository stocked with natural powers at which I am the first to be filled with wonder. #Quote by Maurice Merleau Ponty
Individual quotes by Fyodor Dostoyevsky
#165. Warn you that my friend is a compound personality, and therefore it is difficult to blame him as an individual. #Quote by Fyodor Dostoyevsky
Individual quotes by Fennel Hudson
#166. It's better to be individual than a clone of someone else. #Quote by Fennel Hudson
Individual quotes by Mei Fong
#167. For Americans, the car is the American way. Jay Gatsby roars through capitalism, individual freedom, and the good life. For China, the train is the metaphor. Everyone's on board, there's no chance to steer, and it's clickety-clack to collectivism's dreams. #Quote by Mei Fong
Individual quotes by Dan Pearce
#168. The world population is nearing seven billion. John Travolta and Farrah Fawcett didn't procreate and produce all seven thousand million of us. Audrey Hepburn and Burt Lancaster didn't personally populate the world. Almost every child that was ever born is the byproduct of two everyday people who found each other attractive enough to go jump in the sack together. Almost every child that was ever born came about because two everyday people thought the other was attractive enough to warrant a second glance. If you want proof that attraction belongs to the individual, go sit on a bench at the mall and look at all the different couples walking by.
You will believe that there literally is someone for everyone. #Quote by Dan Pearce
Individual quotes by Alan Greenspan
#169. I do not understand where the backing of Bitcoin is coming from. There is no fundamental issue of capabilities of repaying it in anything which is universally acceptable, which is either intrinsic value of the currency or the credit or trust of the individual who is issuing the money, whether it's a government or an individual. #Quote by Alan Greenspan
Individual quotes by John Verdon
#170. Sexual energy in general has tremendous power, the power to concentrate one's attention like nothing else, to become the sole reality, to warp judgement, to obliterate pain and the perception of risk. The power to make all other considerations irrelevant. There is no force on earth that comes close to it in its power to blind and drive the individual in its grip. #Quote by John Verdon
Individual quotes by Edward Snowden
#171. The freedom of a country can only be measured by its respect for the rights of its citizens, and it's my conviction that these rights are in fact limitations of state power that define exactly where and when a government may not infringe into that domain of personal or individual freedoms that during the American Revolution was called "liberty" and during the Internet Revolution is called "privacy. #Quote by Edward Snowden
Individual quotes by Friedrich Nietzsche
#172. In the heroic effort of the individual to attain universality, in the attempt to transcend the curse of individuation and to become the one world-being, he suffers in his own person the primordial contradiction that is concealed in things, which means that he commits sacrilege and suffers. #Quote by Friedrich Nietzsche
Individual quotes by Tom Gegax
#173. Given the challenges and adversity we face in business and life today, Jon Gordon provides a clear road map to navigate the negativity and pitfalls that too often sabotage individual and team success as he shines a light on the truths that define great leaders, great teams, and great energy. I especially loved the part about leading with purpose. I consider this a valuable book for anyone looking to bring out the best in themselves and their team. #Quote by Tom Gegax
Individual quotes by Edward O. Wilson
#174. To give in completely to the instinctual urgings born from individual selection would be to dissolve society. At the opposite extreme, to surrender to the urgings from group selection would turn us into angelic robots - the outsized equivalents of ants. #Quote by Edward O. Wilson
Individual quotes by Gro Harlem Brundtland
#175. Since the reduction of risk factors is the scientific basis for primary prevention, the World Health Organization promotes the development of an integrated strategy for prevention of several diseases, rather than focusing on individual ones. #Quote by Gro Harlem Brundtland
Individual quotes by Thomas Merton
#176. The complacency of the individual who admires his own excellence is bad enough, but it is more respectable than the complacency of the man who has no self-esteem because he has not even a superficial self which he can esteem. He is not a person, not an individual, only an atom. This atomized existence is sometimes praised as humility or as self-sacrifice, some-times it is called obedience, sometimes it is devotion to the dialectic of class war. It produces a kind of peace which is not peace, but only the escape from an immediately urgent sense of conflict. It is the peace not of love but of anesthesia. It is the peace not of self-realization and self-dedication, but of flight into irresponsibility. #Quote by Thomas Merton
Individual quotes by Alan W. Watts
#177. The sensation of "I" as a lonely and isolated center of being is so powerful and commonsensical, and so fundamental to our modes of speech and thought, to our laws and social institutions, that we cannot experience selfhood except as something superficial in the scheme of the universe. I seem to be a brief light that flashes but once in all the aeons of time - a rare, complicated, and all-too-delicate organism on the fringe of biological evolution, where the wave of life bursts into individual, sparkling, and multicolored drops that gleam for a moment only to vanish forever. Under such conditioning it seems impossible and even absurd to realize that myself does not reside in the drop alone, but in the whole surge of energy which ranges from the galaxies to the nuclear fields in my body. #Quote by Alan W. Watts
Individual quotes by G.D.H. Cole
#178. Man is everywhere in chains, and his chains will not be broken till he feels that it is degrading to be a bondsman, whether to an individual or to a State. The disease of civilization is not so much the material poverty of the many as the decay of the spirit of freedom and self-confidence. The revolt that will change the world will spring, not from the benevolence that breeds "reform", but from the will to be free. Men will act together in the full consciousness of their mutual dependence; but they will act for themselves. Their liberty will not be given them from above; they will take it on their own behalf. #Quote by G.D.H. Cole
Individual quotes by Steve Jobs
#179. I know from my own education that if I hadn't encountered two or three individuals that spent extra time with me, I'm sure I would have been in jail. #Quote by Steve Jobs
Individual quotes by Leymah Gbowee
#180. There is something in this world that every individual can do. God has created all of us with something unique to contribute. #Quote by Leymah Gbowee
Individual quotes by Muhammad Yunus
#181. We prepare our students for jobs and careers, but we don't teach them to think as individuals about what kind of world they would create. #Quote by Muhammad Yunus
Individual quotes by Friedrich Nietzsche
#182. The most serious Christians have always been well disposed towards me. I myself, an opponent of Christianity - de rigueur, am far from bearing a grudge against the individual for what is the fatality of millennia. #Quote by Friedrich Nietzsche
Individual quotes by Hans F. Sennholz
#183. Monetary freedom (gold: sound money), like all other economic freedoms, clears the way for energy, intellect and virtue ... Political control weakens individual self-reliance and energy, causes want and poverty and, in the end, breeds tyranny and oppression. #Quote by Hans F. Sennholz
Individual quotes by Richard Bach
#184. When one individual writer sings her song of beauty, she changes the lives of a million others. #Quote by Richard Bach
Individual quotes by Frances J Roberts
#185. For adversities must of necessity come. They are part of the pattern of life's pilgrimage for every individual; and who can escape them? But I say unto thee, that for those who walk in Me, and for those who are encircled by the intercessory prayers of My children, I shall make of the suffering, yea, shall make of the trials a stepping stone to future blessing. #Quote by Frances J Roberts
Individual quotes by A.E. Samaan
#186. We Libertarians believe in "Limited Government" precisely because we believe in unlimited liberty. Reduce one, and you decrease the other. #Quote by A.E. Samaan
Individual quotes by Franz Kafka
#187. Meanwhile, the majority of the audience- this is plain to see- has retreated into itself. Here in these brief gaps between their troubles our people dream; it is as if the limbs of each were loosened, as if every last uneasy individual were for once allowed to stretch out and relax freely in the great warm bed of the people. #Quote by Franz Kafka
Individual quotes by Karen Traviss
#188. The biggest battles in human history can only ever be seen through the eyes of the bloke on the front line, and that's by definition a very focused view and one that will vary from individual to individual. #Quote by Karen Traviss
Individual quotes by Eleanor Roosevelt
#189. True patriotism springs from a belief in the dignity of the individual, freedom and equality not only for Americans but for all people on earth, universal brotherhood and good will, and a constant and earnest striving toward the principles and ideals on which this country was founded. #Quote by Eleanor Roosevelt
Individual quotes by Herbert Spencer
#190. The more numerous public instrumentalities become, the more is there generated in citizens the notion that everything is to be done for them, and nothing by them. Every generation is made less familiar with the attainment of desired ends by individual actions or private agencies; until, eventually, governmental agencies come to be thought of as the only available agencies. #Quote by Herbert Spencer
Individual quotes by Olaf Stapledon
#191. Myriads of individuals, each one unique, live out their lives in rapt intercourse with one another, contribute their heart's pulses to the universal music, and presently vanish, giving place to others. All this age-long sequence of private living, which is the actual tissue of humanity's flesh, I cannot describe. I can only trace, as it were, the disembodied form of its growth. #Quote by Olaf Stapledon
Individual quotes by Charles De Lint
#192. The real difference is that with fantasy - and by that I mean fantasy which can simultaneously tap into a cosmopolitan commonality at the same time as it springs from an individual and unique perspective. In this sort of fantasy, a mythic resonance lingers on - an harmonious vibration that builds in potency the longer one considers it, rather than fading away when the final page is read and the book is put away. Characters discovered in such writing are pulled from our own inner landscapes... and then set out upon the stories' various stages so that as we learn to understand them a little better, both the monsters and the angels, we come to understand ourselves a little better as well. #Quote by Charles De Lint
Individual quotes by Ashley Tisdale
#193. My look is a very individual look. I love Pink, but I don't really dress like Pink. #Quote by Ashley Tisdale
Individual quotes by Andy Stanley
#194. Jesus healed people one at a time because God cares about individual people. #Quote by Andy Stanley
Individual quotes by Michael Lewis
#195. Success was individual achievement; failure was a social problem. #Quote by Michael Lewis
Individual quotes by Craig Williams
#196. The separation of the individual from a corporeal relationship with the Soul is mirrored in the separation of the individual from nature. This is perhaps one of the most important spiritual and psychological poisons of modernity: the alienation of the individual from the wilderness of nature. The modern obsession with progress and technology has worked to effectively separate man from the unpredictable and uncontrollable milieu of the wilderness and the concomitant alienation of the Soul from the flesh. The modern mind worships the Techno-God and uses many methods to enforce the separation of the flesh from the Soul. Reconnecting to nature requires only concentrated periods spent in a natural environment instead of living a life entirely immersed in artificial environments Efforts should be made to spend significant time in nature to allow the Sacramental Vision to thrive and organically develop. Without a constant connection to nature, the primordial voice of the Soul will eventually fade into silence. Nature must become a constant companion. #Quote by Craig Williams
Individual quotes by Josiah Warren
#197. Liberty, then, is the sovereignty of the individual, and never shall man know liberty until each and every individual is acknowledged to be the only legitimate sovereign of his or her person, time, and property, each living and acting at his own cost; and not until we live in a society where each can exercise his right of sovereignty at all times without clashing with or violating that of others. #Quote by Josiah Warren
Individual quotes by Nathaniel Hawthorne
#198. It contributes greatly towards a man's moral and intellectual health, to be brought into habits of companionship with individuals unlike himself, who care little for his pursuits, and whose sphere and abilities he must go out of himself to appreciate. #Quote by Nathaniel Hawthorne
Individual quotes by Batuhan Ibal
#199. Ignorance is a bliss. One does not simply believe everything they see on the Internet. If an individual has full swag control and mastery of the deception of swag, one could have easily seen through this 'troll'. This is why learning the basic 4 swag principles and mastering them is extremely necessary. Basically, one must AT least master the 4 elements of swag in order to see through deception and perceive where the swag count energy is being emitted from. this state of mind is not common, but it is essential for right thinking , where it is absent, discussion is adapted to become worse than useless.
My title as 'Man of Swag' can never be replaced. I am Swag #Quote by Batuhan Ibal
Individual quotes by Julian Barnes
#200. Like what? The things Literature was all about: love, sex, morality, friendship, happiness, suffering, betrayal, adultery, good and evil, heroes and villains, guilt and innocence, ambition, power, justice, revolution, war, fathers and sons, mothers and daughters, the individual against society, success and failure, murder, suicide, death, God. And barn owls. #Quote by Julian Barnes
