Generosity quotes by Francis Quarles
#1. He that gives all, though but little, gives much; because God looks not to the quantity of the gift, but to the quality of the givers. #Quote by Francis Quarles
Generosity quotes by Chuck Palahniuk
#2. Give me release.
I'm tired of this world of appearances. Pigs that only look fat. Families that look happy.
Give me deliverance.
From what only looks like generosity. What only looks like love.
Flash. #Quote by Chuck Palahniuk
Generosity quotes by Terry Pratchett
#3. Tell him - tell him he's very welcome. Tell him breakfast is - uh - one gold piece'. For a moment Broadman's face looked as though some vast internal struggle was going on, and then he added with a burst of generosity, 'I'll throw in yours, too.' 'Stranger,' said Rincewind levelly. 'If you stay here you will be knifed or poisoned by nightfall. But don't stop smiling, or so will I. #Quote by Terry Pratchett
Generosity quotes by Alex Pattakos
#4. The search for meaning in our lives takes us on paths large and small. When we go beyond ourselves-whether in forgiveness, unselfishness, thoughtfulness, generosity and understanding toward others-we enter into the spiritual realm of meaning. By giving beyond ourselves, we make our own lives richer. This is a truth long understood at the heart of all meaningful spiritual traditions. It's a mystery that can only be experienced. And when we do experience it, we are in the heart of meaning. We are no longer a prisoner of our thoughts. #Quote by Alex Pattakos
Generosity quotes by Susan C. Young
#5. Love is the universal language that transcends countries, borders, barriers, and differences. #Quote by Susan C. Young
Generosity quotes by Chris Hedges
#6. The rebel, dismissed as impractical and zealous, is chronically misunderstood. Those cursed with timidity, fear, or blindness and those who are slaves to opportunism call for moderation and patience. They distort the language of religion, spirituality, compromise, generosity, and compassion to justify cooperation with systems of power that are bent on our destruction. The rebel is deaf to these critiques. The rebel hears only his or her inner voice, which demands steadfast defiance. Self-promotion, positions of influence, the adulation of the public, and the awards and prominent positions that come with bowing before authority mean nothing to the rebel, who understands that virtue is not rewarded. The rebel expects nothing and gets nothing. But for the rebel, to refuse to struggle, to refuse to rebel, is to commit spiritual and moral suicide. #Quote by Chris Hedges
Generosity quotes by Mark Leyner
#7. I always thought of my work as being animated by a spirit of unhinged generosity. #Quote by Mark Leyner
Generosity quotes by B.C. Forbes
#8. Selfishness corrodes. Unselfishness ennobles, satisfies. Don't put off the joy derivable from doing helpful, kindly things for others. #Quote by B.C. Forbes
Generosity quotes by Eamon De Valera
#9. Could he not find in his heart the generosity to acknowledge that there is a small nation that stood alone not for one year or two, but for several hundred years against aggression; that endured spoliations, famines, massacres in endless succession; that was clubbed many times into insensibility, but that each time on returning [to] consciousness took up the fight anew; a small nation that could never be got to accept defeat and has never surrendered her soul? #Quote by Eamon De Valera
Generosity quotes by Andy Stanley
#10. While generosity may be the antidote for the dizzying effects of wealth, your appetite for more may function as an antidote against God-honoring generosity. Your appetite for more stuff, status, and security has the potential to quash your efforts to be generous. And that's a problem. #Quote by Andy Stanley
Generosity quotes by Lewis Hyde
#11. I discovered in belles-lettres that the Giver can be transformed into his own Gift, that is, into a pure object. Chance had made me a man, generosity would make me a book. JEAN-PAUL SARTRE #Quote by Lewis Hyde
Generosity quotes by Virginia Woolf
#12. But Orlando was a woman - Lord Palmerston had just proved it. And when we are writing the life of a woman, we may, it is agreed, waive our demand for action, and substitute love instead. Love, the poet has said, is woman's whole existence. And if we look for a moment at Orlando writing at her table, we must admit that never was there a woman more fitted for that calling. Surely, since she is a woman, and a beautiful woman, and a woman in the prime of life, she will soon give over this pretence of writing and thinking and begin at least to think of a gamekeeper (and as long as she thinks of a man, nobody objects to a woman thinking). And then she will write him a little note (and as long as she writes little notes nobody objects to a woman writing either) and make an assignation for Sunday dusk and Sunday dusk will come; and the gamekeeper will whistle under the window - all of which is, of course, the very stuff of life and the only possible subject for fiction. Surely Orlando must have done one of these things? Alas, - a thousand times, alas, Orlando did none of them. Must it then be admitted that Orlando was one of those monsters of iniquity who do not love? She was kind to dogs, faithful to friends, generosity itself to a dozen starving poets, had a passion for poetry. But love - as the male novelists define it - and who, after all, speak with greater authority? - has nothing whatever to do with kindness, fidelity, generosity, or poetry. Love is slipping off one' #Quote by Virginia Woolf
Generosity quotes by Sharon Salzberg
#13. Generosity has such power because it is characterized by the inner quality of letting go or relinquishing. #Quote by Sharon Salzberg
Generosity quotes by Walter Lord
#14. To the British, Dunkirk symbolizes a generosity of spirit, a willingness to sacrifice for the common good. To Americans, it has come to mean Mrs. Miniver, little ships, The Snow Goose, escape by sea. To the French, it suggests bitter defeat; to the Germans, opportunity forever lost. #Quote by Walter Lord
Generosity quotes by Suzy Kassem
#15. Beware of those who are stingy, for they would rather sting you than give you anything. #Quote by Suzy Kassem
Generosity quotes by Yi-Fu Tuan
#16. A spontaneous act of generosity, performed with unselfish grace is an example of moral beauty, as are certain acts of courage; genuine modesty is a possible example, as is selfless love. Although moral beauty is a natural gift, it is nevertheless more likely to emerge and flourish in societies that appreciate and encourage it. #Quote by Yi-Fu Tuan
Generosity quotes by Thomas Sowell
#17. Welfare states on both sides of the Atlantic have discovered that largesse to losers does not reduce their hostility to society, but only increases it. Far from producing gratitude, generosity is seen as an admission of guilt, and the reparations as inadequate compensations for injustices - leading to worsening behavior by the recipients. #Quote by Thomas Sowell
Generosity quotes by George Clooney
#18. At the core of every religion is the belief that we care for everyone ... It's not too late to help a neighbor in need and to do it with the swiftness, expertise, generosity and love that resides in the best of who we are. #Quote by George Clooney
Generosity quotes by Kingman Brewster, Jr.
#19. The presumption of innocence is not just a legal concept. In commonplace terms, it rests on that generosity of spirit which assumes the best, not the worst, of the stranger. #Quote by Kingman Brewster, Jr.
Generosity quotes by Richard L. Evans
#20. We must not let the things we can't do keep us from doing the things we can do. #Quote by Richard L. Evans
Generosity quotes by Cynthia Dill
#21. The opposite of corporate greed is personal generosity. Government policies that enable the former and prevent the latter are both worthy of protest. #Quote by Cynthia Dill
Generosity quotes by Michael Meade
#22. When a person becomes aware of their genius and they live it and they give generously from it, they change the world, they affect the world. And when they depart everyone knows something is missing. #Quote by Michael Meade
Generosity quotes by Kristen Ashley
#23. But that light that shone in Mitch's eyes told me he loved it more. Not because he liked roller coasters and crappy food.

No, because he liked to see us happy, he liked to make us that way and he didn't mind us knowing it.

From the beginning, he'd demonstrated generosity, selflessness and protectiveness, but there was something beautiful about sensing his contentment grow as the hours passed and he got more out of giving something to us than we got out of having it.

I knew before that Mitch would make a great dad.

But I knew right then that he'd build a beautiful family. #Quote by Kristen Ashley
Generosity quotes by Philip Chard
#24. Higher states of consciousness correlate strongly with attributes like compassion, forgiveness, generosity and kindness. The more one is self-aware and other-aware, and the greater one's connection with the spiritual, the more likely one will be a force for good in our world. #Quote by Philip Chard
Generosity quotes by Randa Abdel-Fattah
#25. Religious celebrations, and the good will, high spirits and generosity that mark them, are wonderful occasions for understanding the potential of 'everyday multiculturalism', and how people from diverse faiths can connect and show they care, rather than go down parallel, sometimes hostile, roads. #Quote by Randa Abdel-Fattah
Generosity quotes by Hari Krishnan Nair
#26. Life is not about rationality but it is all about dignity followed by integrity. Charity is not about amenity but it is all about generosity. From Hari krishnan Nair #Quote by Hari Krishnan Nair
Generosity quotes by Robert Pinsky
#27. A reflection on Robert Lowell

Robert Lowell knew I was not one of his devotees. I attended his famous "office hours" salon only a few times. Life Studies was not a book of central importance for me, though I respected it. I admired his writing, but not the way many of my Boston friends did. Among poets in his generation, poems by Elizabeth Bishop, Alan Dugan, and Allen Ginsberg meant more to me than Lowell's. I think he probably sensed some of that.

To his credit, Lowell nevertheless was generous to me (as he was to many other young poets) just the same. In that generosity, and a kind of open, omnivorous curiosity, he was different from my dear teacher at Stanford, Yvor Winters. Like Lowell, Winters attracted followers - but Lowell seemed almost dismayed or a little bewildered by imitators; Winters seemed to want disciples: "Wintersians," they were called.

A few years before I met Lowell, when I was still in California, I read his review of Winters's Selected Poems. Lowell wrote that, for him, Winters's poetry passed A. E. Housman's test: he felt that if he recited it while he was shaving, he would cut himself. One thing Lowell and Winters shared, that I still revere in both of them, was a fiery devotion to the vocal essence of poetry: the work and interplay of sentences and lines, rhythm and pitch. The poetry in the sounds of the poetry, in a reader's voice: neither page nor stage.

Winters criticizing the violence of Lowell's #Quote by Robert Pinsky
Generosity quotes by Nassim Nicholas Taleb
#28. Pure generosity is when you help the ingrate. Every other form is self-serving. #Quote by Nassim Nicholas Taleb
Generosity quotes by Adam Driver
#29. There's so much emphasis on Daniel Day-Lewis and his process, which is appropriately his own. But I was just blown away by his generosity as an actor. He's so giving as an actor that he just naturally commands the focus on set. #Quote by Adam Driver
Generosity quotes by Robert Grudin
#30. No psychological message is so open to question as that which tells us that we have nothing left to do or to give. #Quote by Robert Grudin
Generosity quotes by Jiddu Krishnamurti
#31. To forgive, there must have been a wound; and to be wounded, there must have been the gatherings of pride. There is no generosity of heart as long as there is a referential memory, the "me" and the "mine. #Quote by Jiddu Krishnamurti
Generosity quotes by Elbert Hubbard
#32. Meanness is more in half-doing than in omitting acts of generosity. #Quote by Elbert Hubbard
Generosity quotes by Aldous Huxley
#33. He does his work very well,' put in Henry, with hypocritical generosity.
'I know. But that's all the more reason for severity. His intellectual eminence carries with it corresponding moral responsibilities. The greater a man's talents, the greater his power to lead astray. It is better than one should suffer than that many should be corrupted. Consider the matter dispassionately, Mr Foster, and you will see that no offence is so heinous as unorthodoxy of behavior. Murder kills only the individual - and, after all, what is an individual?' With a sweeping gesture he indicated the rows of microscopes, the test-tubes, the incubators. 'We can make a new one with the greatest ease - as many as we like. Unorthodoxy threatens more than the life of a mere individual; it strikes at Society itself. Yes, at Society itself,' he repeated. 'Ah, but here he comes. #Quote by Aldous Huxley
Generosity quotes by William Shakespeare
#34. With these shreds They vented their complainings, which being answered And a petition granted them, a strange one, To break the heart of generosity, And make bold power look pale, they threw their caps As they would hang them on the horns o' th' moon, Shouting their emulation. #Quote by William Shakespeare
Generosity quotes by Slavoj Zizek
#35. If the secret core of potlatch is the reciprocity of exchange, why is this reciprocity not asserted directly, why does it assume the "mystified" form of two consecutive acts each of which is staged as a free voluntary display of generosity? Here we encounter the paradoxes of forced choice, of freedom to do what is necessary, at its most elementary: I have to do freely what I am expected to do. (If, upon receiving a gift, I immediately return it to the giver, this direct circulation would amount to an extremely aggressive gesture of humiliation, it would signal that I refused the other's gifts - recall those embarrassing moments when elderly people forget and give us last year's present once again … )

…the reciprocity of exchange is in itself thoroughly ambiguous; at its most fundamental, it is destructive of the social bond, it is the logic of revenge, tit for tat. To cover this aspect of exchange, to make it benevolent and pacific, one has to pretend that each person's gift is free and stands on its own. This brings us to potlatch as the "pre-economy of the economy," its zero-level, that is, exchange as the reciprocal relation of two non-productive expenditures. If the gift belongs to Master and exchange to the Servant, potlatch is the paradoxical exchange between Masters. Potlach is simultaneously the zero-level of civility, the paradoxical point at which restrained civility and obscene consumption overlap, the point at which it is polite to behave impolitely. #Quote by Slavoj Zizek
Generosity quotes by Miguel De Cervantes Saavedra
#36. There are two kinds of beauty, one being of the soul and the other of the body,
That of the soul is revealed through intelligence, modesty, right conduct,
Generosity and good breeding, all of which qualities may exist in an ugly man;
And when one's gaze is fixed upon beauty of this sort and not upon that of the body,
Love is usually born suddenly and violently. #Quote by Miguel De Cervantes Saavedra
Generosity quotes by Salman Rushdie
#37. We must agree on what matters: kissing in public places, bacon sandwiches, disagreement, cutting-edge fashion, literature, generosity, water, a more equitable distribution of the world's resources, movies, music, freedom of thought, beauty, love. #Quote by Salman Rushdie
Generosity quotes by Henry Home, Lord Kames
#38. Who hath not courage to revenge will never find generosity to forgive. #Quote by Henry Home, Lord Kames
Generosity quotes by Walter Brueggemann
#39. On Generosity

On our own, we conclude:
there is not enough to go around

we are going to run short
of money
of love
of grades
of publications
of sex
of beer
of members
of years
of life

we should seize the day
seize our goods
seize our neighbours goods
because there is not enough to go around

and in the midst of our perceived deficit
you come
you come giving bread in the wilderness
you come giving children at the 11th hour
you come giving homes to exiles
you come giving futures to the shut down
you come giving easter joy to the dead
you come – fleshed in Jesus.

and we watch while
the blind receive their sight
the lame walk
the lepers are cleansed
the deaf hear
the dead are raised
the poor dance and sing

we watch
and we take food we did not grow and
life we did not invent and
future that is gift and gift and gift and
families and neighbours who sustain us
when we did not deserve it.

It dawns on us – late rather than soon-
that you "give food in due season
you open your hand
and satisfy the desire of every living thing."

By your giving, break our cycles of imagined scarcity
override our presumed deficits
quiet our anxieties of lack
transform our perceptual field to see
the abundance………mercy upon mercy
#Quote by Walter Brueggemann
Generosity quotes by Maryrose Wood
#40. You know I believe that all children should have pets if it can possibly be managed, she wrote. I feel it is beneficial to give even the littlest children responsibility for something more helpless and in need of care than themselves. In this way selfishness is avoided, generosity is nurtured, and the heart's affections are exercised until they can bend and stretch to encompass all the world's creatures. #Quote by Maryrose Wood
Generosity quotes by Horace Mann
#41. Generosity during life is a very different thing from generosity in the hour of death; one proceeds from genuine liberality and benevolence, the other from pride or fear. #Quote by Horace Mann
Generosity quotes by Hadiqa Kiani
#42. Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital and Research Centre is a genuine project and a living proof of generosity of the people of Pakistan. #Quote by Hadiqa Kiani
Generosity quotes by William Maxwell
#43. They looked at me, and were so full of delight in the pleasure they were giving me that some final thread of resistance gave way and I understood not only how entirely generous they were but also that generosity might be the greatest pleasure there is. #Quote by William Maxwell
Generosity quotes by Charles Caleb Colton
#44. Courage is generosity of the highest order, for the brave are prodigal of the most precious things. #Quote by Charles Caleb Colton
Generosity quotes by Chinonye J. Chidolue
#45. Giving is not favor; it's a form of self-reparation. #Quote by Chinonye J. Chidolue
Generosity quotes by Pablo Neruda
#46. Let us forget with generosity those who cannot love us #Quote by Pablo Neruda
Generosity quotes by Jimmy Buffett
#47. I have always looked at life as a voyage, mostly wonderful, sometimes frightening. In my family and friends I have discovered treasure more valuable than gold. #Quote by Jimmy Buffett
Generosity quotes by Elaine N. Aron
#48. In short, you do not have to take the job that will create excessive stress and overarousal. Someone else will take it and flourish in it. You do not have to work long hours. Indeed, it may be your duty to work shorter ones. It may not be best to advertise it, but keeping yourself healthy and in your right range of arousal is the first condition for helping others. #Quote by Elaine N. Aron
Generosity quotes by George Lakoff
#49. Conservatives have proposed cutting pension plans and benefits like contributions to health care. Think for a moment what pensions are: Pensions are delayed payments for work already done. If employees' pensions are cut, the company is stealing their money - money they have already earned. If the corporation says it can no longer pay "generous" benefits, then the company is cutting employees' salaries. "Benefits" are not gifts; "generosity" is not at issue. Benefits are part of pay for work. Corporations #Quote by George Lakoff
Generosity quotes by Francis Of Assisi
#50. For it is in giving that we receive. #Quote by Francis Of Assisi
Generosity quotes by Debbie Macomber
#51. Here's where the real power of generosity comes in. Often, the more we give, the more we receive. #Quote by Debbie Macomber
Generosity quotes by Scott Lynch
#52. You'll pardon me," he finally said, "if the suggestion that the minuscule black turnip you call a heart is suddenly overflowing with generosity toward me leaves me wanting to arm myself and put my back against a wall. #Quote by Scott Lynch
Generosity quotes by Heloise
#53. I am convinced by a sad experience that it is natural to avoid those to whom we have been too much obliged, and that uncommon generosity causes neglect rather than gratitude. #Quote by Heloise
Generosity quotes by Pete Wilson
#54. I LOVE my job. Having a front row seat to watch lives change because of others generosity is amazing! So thankful. #Quote by Pete Wilson
Generosity quotes by Hillary Clinton
#55. I'm not making excuses for the missed opportunities of the Israelis, or the lack of generosity, the lack of empathy that I think goes hand-in-hand with the suspicion. So, yes, there is more that the Israelis need to do to really demonstrate that they do understand the pain of an oppressed people in their minds, and they want to figure out, within the bounds of security and a Jewish democratic state, what can be accomplished. #Quote by Hillary Clinton
Generosity quotes by Herbert Spencer
#56. There is a story of some mountains of salt in Cumana, which never diminished, though carried away in much abundance by merchants; but when once they were monopolized to the benefit of a private purse, then the salt decreased; till afterward all were allowed to take of it, when it had a new access and increase. The truth of this story may be uncertain, but the application is true; he that envies others the use of his gifts decays then, but he thrives most that is most diffusive. #Quote by Herbert Spencer
Generosity quotes by Jan Holly
#57. Dear Charles, she wrote.
After writing to express my appreciation for all the generosity of our friends, I would be remiss indeed if I did not include a missive to you. Out of all the new blessings in my new life, the one I thank God for the most is you. I thank you for writing to me through Genteel Correspondence, and for choosing me out of all the other women eager for adventure in the wild west.
I thank you for your kindness, and your gentleness toward me. Only very strong men can be gentle. I thank you for sharing your home and your life with me. I thank you for inventing delicious breakfasts. And chicory flavored coffee. And prayers that ease my mind and inspire my spirit and lift my heart. For your smile and the way you hold your hat in your hands. For the things you say and how you say them.
Did you know that I pray for you each day? I do. I pray for your safety and happiness.
Yours in Christ,
Rose #Quote by Jan Holly
Generosity quotes by Earle Brown
#58. It is not possible, given any degree of optimism and generosity in regard to people in general, to set a time limit on creative reflection or a limitation on the number of people involved in the creation. #Quote by Earle Brown
Generosity quotes by Nelson Mandela
#59. People tend to measure themselves by external accomplishments, but jail allows a person to focus on internal ones; such as honesty, sincerity, simplicity, humility, generosity and an absence of variety. You learn to look into yourself. #Quote by Nelson Mandela
Generosity quotes by Wayne Dyer
#60. If you are not generous when it's difficult, you will not be generous when it's easy. Generosity is a function of the heart, not the wallet. #Quote by Wayne Dyer
Generosity quotes by Stephen King
#61. Rich people can be generous, even the ones with bloodcurdling political views can be generous, but most believe in generosity on their own terms, and underneath (not so deep, either), they're always afraid someone is going to steal their presents and eat their birthday cake. #Quote by Stephen King
Generosity quotes by Cassandra Clare
#62. There were those who believed that because Jem was so kind, so capable of gentleness and generosity, because Jem loved so selflessly, that Jem was weak. There were those who suspected he was not capable of violence or vengeance, who assumed they could hurt Jem and the ones he loved with impunity, because he did not have it in him to strike back. Those who believed this were wrong. Those who acted on it would be sorry. #Quote by Cassandra Clare
Generosity quotes by Jonathan Shay
#63. As beasts are beneath human restraints, gods are above them... It would be foolish and untruthful to deny the appeal of exalted, godlike intoxication....We have seen the paradox that these godlike exalted moments often correspond to times when the men who have survived them say that they have acted like beasts....Above all, a sense of merely human virtue, a sense of being valued and of valuing anything seems to have fled their lives....However, all of our virtues come from not being gods. Generosity is meaningless to a god, who never suffers shortage or want. Courage is meaningless to a god, who is immortal and can never suffer permanent injury. The godlike berserk state can destroy the capacity for virtue. Whether the berserker is beneath humanity as an animal, above it as a god, or both, he is cut off from all human community when he is in this state. #Quote by Jonathan Shay
Generosity quotes by Randy Alcorn
#64. God doesn't make us rich so we can indulge ourselves and spoil our children, or so we can insulate ourselves form needing God's provision. God gives us abundant material blessing so that we can give it away, and give it generously. #Quote by Randy Alcorn
Generosity quotes by Ken Solts
#65. Generosity is not always tax deductible. #Quote by Ken Solts
Generosity quotes by Taisen Deshimaru
#66. To receive everything, one must open one's hands and give. #Quote by Taisen Deshimaru
Generosity quotes by John Steinbeck
#67. It has always seemed strange to me," said Doc. "The things we admire in men, kindness and generosity, openness, honesty, understanding and feeling are the concomitants of failure in our system. And those traits we detest, sharpness, greed, acquisitiveness, meanness, egotism and self-interest are the traits of success. And while men admire the quality of the first they love the produce of the second. #Quote by John Steinbeck
Generosity quotes by Christian Smith
#68. Generosity involved in proactively forgiving other people. This form of generosity, and the positive feelings it evokes in generous forgivers, have been shown by studies to reduce stress, tension, and sadness, and to lead to lower heart rates, lower skin conduction levels, and lower blood pressure. By contrast, those who ungenerously hold grudges are more angry, feel less in control of their lives, and, partly as a result, exhibit symptoms of unhealthy physical conditions. #Quote by Christian Smith
Generosity quotes by Saadi
#69. No one ever sowed the grain of generosity who gathered not up the harvest of the desire of his heart. #Quote by Saadi
Generosity quotes by Jose Saramago
#70. The skeptics are quite right when they say that the history of humanity is one long succession of missed opportunities. Fortunately, thanks to the inexhaustible generosity of the imagination, we erase faults, fill in lacunae as best we can, forge passages through blind alleys that will remain stubbornly blind, and invent keys to doors that have never even had locks. #Quote by Jose Saramago
Generosity quotes by Dalai Lama
#71. Giving material goods is one form of generosity, but one can extend an attitude of generosity into all one's behavior. Being kind, attentive, and honest in dealing with others, offering praise where it is due, giving comfort and advice where they are needed, and simply sharing one's time with someone - all these are forms of generosity, and they do not require any particular level of material wealth. #Quote by Dalai Lama
Generosity quotes by Toni Morrison
#72. What was taken by outsiders to be slackness, slovenliness or even generosity was in fact a full recognition of the legitimacy of forces other than good ones. They did not believe doctors could heal
for them, none ever had done so. They did not believe death was accidental
life might be, but death was deliberate. They did not believe Nature was ever askew
only inconvenient. Plague and drought were as 'natural' as springtime. If milk could curdle, God knows robins could fall. The purpose of evil was to survive it and they determined (without ever knowing they had made up their minds to do it) to survive floods, white people, tuberculosis, famine and ignorance. They knew anger well but not despair, and they didn't stone sinners for the same reason they didn't commit suicide
it was beneath them. #Quote by Toni Morrison
Generosity quotes by Paul Fleischman
#73. [Community gardens] were oases in the urban landscape of fear, places where people could safely offer trust, helpfulness, charity, without need of an earthquake or hurricane...Community gardens are places where people rediscover not only generosity, but the pleasure of coming together. I salute all those who give their time and talents to rebuilding that sense of belonging. #Quote by Paul Fleischman
Generosity quotes by Nelson Mandela
#74. It is a simple tale, but its message is an enduring one: virtue and generosity will be rewarded in ways that one cannot know. #Quote by Nelson Mandela
Generosity quotes by Benjamin Constant
#75. There is indeed in the contemplation of beauty of any kind, something which detaches us from ourselves by making us feel that perfection is worth more than we are; and that, through this conviction, by inspiring us with a momentary disinterestedness, awakens in us the power of sacrifice, which is the source of all virtues. There is in emotion, whatever its cause, something which makes our blood flow faster, which communicates to us a kind of wellbeing which doubles the sense of our existence and our powers, and that, by doing so, renders us capable of a greater generosity, courage, or sympathy, than we normally feel. Even a corrupt man is better when he is moved and as long as he is moved. #Quote by Benjamin Constant
Generosity quotes by Adam Bryant
#76. We think about our values in pairs, and there is a tension or a balance between them. We talk about listening and leadership; accountability and generosity; humility and audacity. You've got to have the humility to see the world as it is - and in our world, working with poor communities, that's not easy to do - but have the audacity to know why you are trying to make it be different, to imagine the way it could be. #Quote by Adam Bryant
Generosity quotes by Sandra Bullock
#77. At this critical time, I am grateful to Sandra Bullock for once again demonstrating her leadership, compassion and belief in our global humanitarian mission. Sandra continues to enable our lifesaving work and is a model for personal generosity. #Quote by Sandra Bullock
Generosity quotes by Maya Angelou
#78. Although there was always generosity in the Negro neighborhood, it was indulged on pain of sacrifice. Whatever was given by Black people to other Blacks was most probably needed as desperately by the donor as by the receiver. A fact which made the giving or receiving a rich exchange. #Quote by Maya Angelou
Generosity quotes by Giordano Bruno
#79. IF, O most illustrious Knight, I had driven a plough, pastured a herd, tended a garden, tailored a garment: none would regard me, few observe me, seldom a one reprove me; and I could easily satisfy all men. But since I would survey the field of Nature, care for the nourishment of the soul, foster the cultivation of talent, become expert as Daedalus concerning the ways of the intellect; lo, one doth threaten upon beholding me, another doth assail me at sight, another doth bite upon reaching me, yet another who hath caught me would devour me; not one, nor few, they are many, indeed almost all. If you would know why, it is because I hate the mob, I loathe the vulgar herd and in the multitude I find no joy. It is Unity that doth enchant me. By her power I am free though thrall, happy in sorrow, rich in poverty, and quick even in death. Through her virtue I envy not those who are bond though free, who grieve in the midst of pleasures, who endure poverty in their wealth, and a living death. They carry their chains within them; their spirit containeth her own hell that bringeth them low; within their soul is the disease that wasteth, and within their mind the lethargy that bringeth death. They are without the generosity that would enfranchise, the long suffering that exalteth, the splendour that doth illumine, knowledge that bestoweth life. Therefore I do not in weariness shun the arduous path, nor idly refrain my arm from the present task, nor retreat in despair from the enemy that #Quote by Giordano Bruno
Generosity quotes by Ernest Bevin
#80. Ernest Bevin had many of the strongest characteristics of the English race. His manliness, his common sense, his rough simplicity, sturdiness and kind heart, easy geniality and generosity, all are qualities which we who live in the southern part of this famous island regard with admiration. #Quote by Ernest Bevin
Generosity quotes by Thomas Hardy
#81. Eustacia Vye was the raw material of a divinity. On Olympus she would have done well with a little preparation. She had the passions and instincts which make a model goddess, that is, those which make not quite a model woman. Had it been possible for the earth and mankind to be entirely in her grasp for a while, she had handled the distaff, the spindle, and the shears at her own free will, few in the world would have noticed the change of government. There would have been the same inequality of lot, the same heaping up of favors here, of contumely there, the same generosity before justice, the same perpetual dilemmas, the same captious alteration of caresses and blows that we endure now. #Quote by Thomas Hardy
Generosity quotes by Anthony Marra
#82. Maybe we try to find them in other people. In kindness and generosity; those things don't disappear. #Quote by Anthony Marra
Generosity quotes by Richelle E. Goodrich
#83. Choose altruism, because selfishism is a lonely, cold, dark hole. #Quote by Richelle E. Goodrich
Generosity quotes by Robert T. Kiyosaki
#84. Whenever you feel short or need of something, give what you want first, and it will come back in buckets. That is true for money, a smile, love or friendship. I know it is often the last thing a person may do, but it has always worked for me. I trust that the principle of prosperity is true, and I give what I want. I want money, so I give money, and it comes back in multiples. I want sales, so I help someone else sell something, so sales come to me. I want contacts, and I help someone else get contacts. Like magic, contacts come to me. I heard a saying years ago that went: god does not need to receive, but humans need to give. My rich dad would often say: poor people are more greedy than rich people. He would explain that if a person is rich, that person is providing something that other people wanted...whenever I think people aren't smiling at me, I simply began smiling and saying hello. Like magic, the next thing I know: I'm surrounded by smiling people. It is true that you world is only a mirror of you. So that's why I say, teach and you shall receive. #Quote by Robert T. Kiyosaki
Generosity quotes by Debasish Mridha

Generosity quotes by Anonymous
#86. Psalm PSALM - NOTE ON 37. This can be called a wisdom psalm because it reflects on themes normally dealt with in the Bible's Wisdom Literature, particularly in Proverbs. It addresses the issue of why godless people often prosper. It shows that it really is better to stay loyal to the Lord - a loyalty expressed in contentment, honesty, and generosity. In his own good time, the Lord will make a clear distinction between the godless and the faithful. Meanwhile, the faithful must wait patiently. #Quote by Anonymous
Generosity quotes by C. Christopher Smith
#87. Open-handed generosity and caring for the poor and marginalized as if we were caring for Jesus himself are extensions of our worship. #Quote by C. Christopher Smith
Generosity quotes by Keith Ferrazzi
#88. Bottom Line: It's better to give before you receive. And never keep score. If your interactions are ruled by generosity, your rewards will follow suit. #Quote by Keith Ferrazzi
Generosity quotes by Seth Godin
#89. If there's time for an emergency, why isn't there time for brilliance, generosity or learning? #Quote by Seth Godin
Generosity quotes by Herman Melville
#90. We cannot live for ourselves alone. Our lives are connected by a thousand invisible threads, and along these sympathetic fibers, our actions run as causes and return to us as results. #Quote by Herman Melville
Generosity quotes by John Steinbeck
#91. The things we admire in men, kindness and generosity, openness, honesty, understanding and feeling are the concomiants of failure in our system. And those traits we detest, sharpness, greed, acquisitiveness, meanness, egotism and self-interest are the traits of success. And while men admire the quality of the first they love the produce of the second. (Cannery Row) #Quote by John Steinbeck
Generosity quotes by Pierre Gagnaire

Generosity quotes by Timothy Keller
#96. A lack of generosity refuses to acknowledge that your assets are not really yours, but God's. #Quote by Timothy Keller
Generosity quotes by Fethullah Gulen
#97. Some [people] think that there is a central organization responsible for all the institutions they wrongly think affiliated with me. They ignore the zeal of many to serve humanity and to gain God's good pleasure in doing so. They ignore people's generosity. Such misunderstandings may lead others to have suspicions about the financial resources of the schools. #Quote by Fethullah Gulen
Generosity quotes by Nora Roberts
#98. Walking home's going to be...interesting half dressed." Alan mused as he dropped the shirt over the lip of the sink.
Shelby shot a look over her shoulder, but the retort she had in mind slipped away from her.He was lean enough so she could have counted his ribs, but there was a sense of power and endurance in the breadth of his chest and shoulders, the streamlined waist. His body made her forget any other man she'd ever seen.
It had been he,she realized all at once, whom she'd been thinking of when she'd thrown the clay into that clean-lined bowl.
Shelby let the first flow of arousal rush through her because it was as sweet as it was sharp. Then she tensed against it, rendering it a distant throb she could control.
"You're in excellent shape," she commented lightly. "You should be able to make it to P street in under three minutes at a steady jog."
"Shelby, that's downright unfriendly."
"I thought it was more rude," she corrected as she struggled against a grin. "I suppose I could be a nice guy and throw it in the dryer for you."
"It was your clay."
"It was your move," she reminded him, but snatched up the damp shirt. "Okay, come on upstairs." With one hand, she tugged off her work apron, tossing it aside as she breezed through the doorway. "I suppose you're entitled to one drink on the house."
"You're all heart," Alan murmured as he followed her up the stairs.
"My reputation for generosity precedes me. #Quote by Nora Roberts
Generosity quotes by Tullian Tchividjian
#99. What we see here (and in our lives) is that love inspires what the law demands - the law prescribes good works, but only grace can produce them. Gratitude, generosity, honesty, compassion, acts of mercy, and self-sacrifice (all requirements of the law) spring unsummoned from a forgiven heart. This is how God works on us. He picks us, the least deserving, out of the crowd, insists upon being in a relationship with us, and creates in us a new heart, miraculously capable of pleasing Him. #Quote by Tullian Tchividjian
Generosity quotes by Edward Kennedy
#100. Our commitment to this founding principle is especially relevant today. Americans are united as rarely before in compassion and generosity for our fellow citizens whose lives have been devastated by Hurricane Katrina, The powerful winds and floodwater of Katrina tore away the mask that has hidden from public view the many Americans who are left out and left behind. #Quote by Edward Kennedy
Generosity quotes by Mary Baker Eddy
#101. Philanthropy is loving, and ameliorative, revolutionary; it wakens lofty desires, new possibilities, achievements, and energies; ... it touches thought to spiritual issues, systematizes action, and insures success. #Quote by Mary Baker Eddy
Generosity quotes by Lundy Bancroft
#102. The symptoms of abuse are there, and the woman usually sees them: the escalating frequency of put-downs. Early generosity turning more and more to selfishness. Verbal explosions when he is irritated or when he doesn't get his way. Her grievances constantly turned around on her, so that everything is her own fault. His growing attitude that he knows what is good for her better than she does. And, in many relationships, a mounting sense of fear or intimidation. But the woman also sees that her partner is a human being who can be caring and affectionate at times, and she loves him. She wants to figure out why he gets so upset, so that she can help him break his pattern of ups and downs. She gets drawn into the complexities of his inner world, trying to uncover clues, moving pieces around in an attempt to solve an elaborate puzzle. #Quote by Lundy Bancroft
Generosity quotes by Walter Brueggemann
#103. When we live according to our fears and our hates, our lives become small and defensive, lacking the deep, joyous generosity of God. If you find some part of your life where your daily round has grown thin and controlling and resentful, life with God is much, much larger, shattering our little categories of control, permitting us to say that God's purposes led us well beyond ourselves to live and to forgive, to create life we would not have imagined #Quote by Walter Brueggemann
Generosity quotes by Piero Ferrucci
#104. Generosity is, by definition, disinterested." (p.157) #Quote by Piero Ferrucci
Generosity quotes by Jeff Goins
#105. We must wake up. If we are going to find our callings, we must live intentionally and audaciously. And we must be generous. This choice is not an easy one, and it doesn't come naturally, but it's how we were meant to live. It's the only way - I'm quite convinced of this - that we can find the satisfaction we've been searching for, the lives we've been dreaming of. And although there are legitimate health, business, and psychological benefits to generous living, the most important one is this: generosity gives your life meaning. #Quote by Jeff Goins
Generosity quotes by John F. Kennedy
#106. In a time of domestic crisis, men of goodwill and generosity should be able to unite regardless of party or politics. #Quote by John F. Kennedy
Generosity quotes by Charles Haddon Spurgeon
#107. To give to others is but sowing seed for ourselves. #Quote by Charles Haddon Spurgeon
Generosity quotes by Paul J. Zak
#108. Oxytocin infusion increases generosity in unilateral monetary transfers by 80 percent [and] increases donations to charity by 50 percent. #Quote by Paul J. Zak
Generosity quotes by Vladimir Nabokov
#109. In a nervous and slender-leaved mimosa grove at the back of their villa we found a perch on the ruins of a low stone wall. She trembled and twitched as I kissed the corner of her parted lips and the hot lobe of her ear. A cluster of stars palely glowed above us between the silhouettes of long thin leaves; that vibrant sky seemed as naked as she was under her light frock. I saw her face in the sky, strangely distinct, as if it emitted a faint radiance of its own. Her legs, her lovely live legs, were not too close together, and when my hand located what it sought, a dreamy and eerie expression, half-pleasure, half-pain, came over those childish features. She sat a little higher than I, and whenever in her solitary ecstasy she was led to kiss me, her head would bend with a sleepy, soft, drooping movement that was almost woeful, and her bare knees caught and compressed my wrist, and slackened again; and her quivering mouth, distorted by the acridity of some mysterious potion, with a sibilant intake of breath came near to my face. She would try to relieve the pain of love by first roughly rubbing her dry lips against mine; then my darling would draw away with a nervous toss of her hair, and then again come darkly near and let me feed on her open mouth, while with a generosity that was ready to offer her everything, my heart, my throat, my entrails, I gave her to hold in her awkward fist the scepter of my passion. #Quote by Vladimir Nabokov
Generosity quotes by Christopher Hitchens
#110. One also, in our milieu, simply didn't meet enough Americans to form an opinion. And when one did - this was in the days of crew-cuts and short-legged pants - they, too, often really did sport crew-cuts and trousers that mysteriously ended several inches short of the instep. Why was that? It obviously wasn't poverty. A colleague of my father's had a daughter who got herself married and found that an American friend she had met on holiday had offered to pay the whole cost of the nuptial feast. I forget the name of this paladin, but he had a crew-cut and amputated trouser-bottoms and a cigar stub and he came from a place called Yonkers, which seemed to me a ridiculous name to give to a suburb. (I, who had survived Crapstone… ) Anyway, once again one received a Henry Jamesian impression of brash generosity without overmuch refinement. There was a boy at my boarding school called Warren Powers Laird Myers, the son of an officer stationed at one of the many U.S. Air Force bases in Cambridgeshire. Trousers at The Leys School were uniform and regulation, but he still managed to show a bit of shin and to buzz-cut his hair. 'I am not a Yankee,' he informed me (he was from Norfolk, Virginia). 'I am a CON-federate.' From what I was then gleaning of the news from Dixie, this was unpromising. In our ranks we also had Jamie Auchincloss, a sprig of the Kennedy-Bouvier family that was then occupying the White House. His trousers managed to avoid covering his ankles also, though the fact that #Quote by Christopher Hitchens
Generosity quotes by Farshad Asl

Generosity quotes by Leonid Andreyev
#112. Men are always murderers, and their calmness and generosity is the calmness of a well-fed animal, that knows itself out of danger. #Quote by Leonid Andreyev
Generosity quotes by Howard W. Hunter
#113. To dig a straight furrow, the plowman needs to keep his eyes on a fixed point ahead of him. That keeps him on a true course. If, however, he happens to look back to see where he has been, his chances of straying are increased. The results are crooked and irregular furrows ... Fix your attention on your ... goals and never look back on your earlier problems ... If our energies are focused not behind us but ahead of us
on eternal life and the joy of salvation
we assuredly will obtain it. #Quote by Howard W. Hunter
Generosity quotes by Ella J. Fraser
#114. Over the course of seventy years, Isobel had learned how indiscriminately unkind Life could be. She also knew that cataloguing and reviewing examples of such cruelty was, in itself, a masochistic exercise. One that she'd habitually and rigorously trained herself to refrain from engaging in. Better to focus on those events that demonstrated the grace and beauty with which Life could perform, without rival, when bestowing on her captive audience a distinctively intermittent yet consistently welcomed generosity of spirit. #Quote by Ella J. Fraser
Generosity quotes by J. A. Spender
#115. It is cheap generosity which promises the future in compensation for the present. #Quote by J. A. Spender
Generosity quotes by Matt Perman
#116. Excellence in our work is actually a form of generosity and love, and poor quality is a form of stinginess and selfishness. #Quote by Matt Perman
Generosity quotes by Patrick Woodroffe
#117. Let us learn to adapt our ways to the generosity of Nature. Let us learn to care, yet without letting care itself bring us down. Let us learn to think, yet without letting thought be our only master. Let us learn to die, yet without believing in death. #Quote by Patrick Woodroffe
Generosity quotes by Gregory Peck
#118. In art there is compassion, in compassion there is humanity, with humanity there is generosity and love,' Peters said. #Quote by Gregory Peck
Generosity quotes by Agnes Repplier
#119. Letter-writing on the part of a busy man or woman is the quintessence of generosity. #Quote by Agnes Repplier
Generosity quotes by Rory Stewart
#120. As a Scot, I instinctively feel a sympathy towards a culture which is based on generosity. It's very refreshing. Afghans think they're the best people in the world and their country is the best place in the world, and it's strange because you go there and it doesn't really look like it, and yet they assume that everybody else envies them. #Quote by Rory Stewart
Generosity quotes by Sharon Salzberg
#121. If we have nothing material to give, we can offer our attention, our energy, our appreciation. The world needs us. It doesn't deplete us to give. #Quote by Sharon Salzberg
Generosity quotes by Ajahn Chah
#122. Some people are afraid of generosity. They feel they will be taken advantage of or oppressed. In cultivating generosity, we are only oppressing our greed and attachment. This allows our true nature to come out and become lighter and freer. #Quote by Ajahn Chah
Generosity quotes by Lailah Gifty Akita
#123. Life can only be live with grace, gratitude and generosity. #Quote by Lailah Gifty Akita
Generosity quotes by Jiddu Krishnamurti
#124. When I understand myself, I understand you, and out of that understanding comes love. Love is the missing factor; there is a lack of affection, of warmth in relationship; and because we lack that love, that tenderness, that generosity, that mercy in relationship, we escape into mass action which produces further confusion, further misery. We fill our hearts with blueprints for world reform and do not look to that one resolving factor which is love. #Quote by Jiddu Krishnamurti
Generosity quotes by Fulton J. Sheen
#125. Never measure your generosity by what you give, but rather by what you have left. #Quote by Fulton J. Sheen
Generosity quotes by Janet Frame
#126. I have to cry out here that language is all we have for the delicacy and truth of telling, that words are the sole heroes and heroines of fiction. Their generosity and forgiveness make one weep. They will accept anything and stand by it, and show no sign of suffering. They will accept change, painlessly, the only pain being that experienced by those who use words, scattering them like beans in a field and hoping for morning beanstalks as high as the sky with heavenly commotion there, upstairs where the giants live. #Quote by Janet Frame
Generosity quotes by Adrienne Maree Brown
#127. Do you already know that your existence--who and how you are--is in and of itself a contribution to the people and place around you? Not after or because you do some particular thing, but simply the miracle of your life. And that the people around you, and the place(s), have contributions as well? Do you understand that your quality of life and your survival are tied to how authentic and generous the connections are between you and the people and place you live with and in?

Are you actively practicing generosity and vulnerability in order to make the connections between you and others clear, open, available, durable? Generosity here means giving of what you have without strings or expectations attached. Vulnerability means showing your needs. #Quote by Adrienne Maree Brown
Generosity quotes by Angelica Hopes
#128. Wagging tongues from prejudiced, sophisticated facade of show-off people can never blemish any honest, genuine, golden heart. #Quote by Angelica Hopes
Generosity quotes by J.M. Coetzee
#129. Is this love - this easy generosity, this sense of being understood at last, of not having to pretend? #Quote by J.M. Coetzee
Generosity quotes by Charles Alexander Eastman
#130. It was our belief that the love of possessions is a weakness to be overcome ... Children must early learn the beauty of generosity. They are taught to give what they prize most, that they may taste the happiness of giving ... The Indians in their simplicity literally give away all that they have - to relatives, to guests of other tribes or clans, but above all to the poor and the aged, from whom they can hope for no return. #Quote by Charles Alexander Eastman
Generosity quotes by Matshona Dhliwayo
#131. The greatest gift you can open is your heart to someone in need. #Quote by Matshona Dhliwayo
Generosity quotes by Jack Welch
#132. Your people give their days (and sometimes their nights) to you. They give their hands, brains, and hearts. Sure, the company pays them. It fills their wallets. But as a leader, you need to fill their souls. You can do that by getting in their skin, by giving the work meaning, by clearing obstacles, and by demonstrating the generosity gene. And you can do it, perhaps most powerfully, by creating an environment that's exciting and enjoyable. #Quote by Jack Welch
Generosity quotes by Charlie Haden
#133. If you strive to become a good human being with the qualities of generosity, humility and having reverence for life ... just maybe you'll become a great musician. #Quote by Charlie Haden
Generosity quotes by Sharon Salzberg
#134. The cultivation of generosity is the beginning of spiritual awakening. Generosity has tremendous force because it arises from an inner quality of letting go. Being able to let go, to give up, to renounce, and to give generously all spring from the same source, and when we practice generosity ... we open up these qualities within ourselves. #Quote by Sharon Salzberg
Generosity quotes by Charles F. Glassman
#135. True kindness is not necessarily giving something to someone who is down, but showing them that they still have something to give to get back up. #Quote by Charles F. Glassman
Generosity quotes by Vita Sackville-West
#136. Violence, passion, indignation, loyalty, integrity, incorruptibility, shameless egoism, generosity, excitability, energy, a hundred horse-power drive - none of it very subtle: Ethel [Smyth] didn't deal in pastel shades, she went for the stronger colors, the blood-red, anything deep and pumping out of the arteries of the heart. #Quote by Vita Sackville-West
Generosity quotes by Sharon Salzberg
#137. The Buddha said that no true spiritual life is possible without a generous heart ... Generosity allies itself with an inner feeling of abundance - the feeling that we have enough to share. #Quote by Sharon Salzberg
Generosity quotes by Yasmin Mogahed
#138. Shaytan will tell you that you're not worthy, so give up. But his traps are based on lies. When was any of it because of *your* worth? It was all because of His mercy, His generosity, His love of giving, and forgiving. And those qualities don't change because you're messing up. Just seek them. Call Him by His mercy, not by your deeds. #Quote by Yasmin Mogahed
Generosity quotes by Naomie Harris
#139. What I generally get from being in Africa is a sense of warmth and openness. As a stranger, you are always welcomed into people's homes and people are always offering you food. That generosity is incredibly touching. #Quote by Naomie Harris
Generosity quotes by Henry David Thoreau
#140. With wisdom we shall learn liberality. #Quote by Henry David Thoreau
Generosity quotes by Patti Digh
#141. Being generous often consists of simply extending a hand. That's hard to do if you are grasping tightly to your righteousness, your belief system, your superiority, your assumptions about others, your definition of normal. #Quote by Patti Digh
Generosity quotes by Robert G. Ingersoll
#142. In a new country a man must possess at least three virtues - honesty, courage and generosity. In cultivated society, cultivation is often more important than soil. A well-executed counterfeit passes more readily than a blurred genuine. It is necessary only to observe the unwritten laws of society - to be honest enough to keep out of prison, and generous enough to subscribe in public - where the subscription can be defended as an investment. In a new country, character is essential; in the old, reputation is sufficient. In the new, they find what a man really is; in the old, he generally passes for what he resembles. People separated only by distance are much nearer together, than those divided by the walls of caste. #Quote by Robert G. Ingersoll
Generosity quotes by Noam Chomsky
#143. How, then, does one become an activist?

The easy answer would be to say that we do not become activists; we simply forget that we are. We are all born with compassion, generosity, and love for others inside us. We are all moved by injustice and discrimination. We are all, inside, concerned human beings. We all want to give more than to receive. We all want to live in a world where solidarity and companionship are more important values than individualism and selfishness. We all want to share beautiful things; experience joy, laughter, love; and experiment, together. #Quote by Noam Chomsky
Generosity quotes by Max Lucado
#144. Heavenly Father, loosen my grip on the things of this world. Lead me in the dance of spontaneous, cheerful giving, and let that generosity remind me always of your grace toward me, which I in no way deserve. In your Son's name I pray, amen. #Quote by Max Lucado
Generosity quotes by J.A. Perez
#145. Generosity always intends to enhance the true wellbeing of those to whom it gives. #Quote by J.A. Perez
Generosity quotes by Desmond Tutu
#146. One of the sayings in our country is Ubuntu - the essence of being human. Ubuntu speaks particularly about the fact that you can't exist as a human being in isolation. It speaks about our interconnectedness. You can't be human all by yourself, and when you have this quality - Ubuntu - you are known for your generosity. We think of ourselves far too frequently as just individuals, separated from one another, whereas you are connected and what you do affects the whole World. When you do well, it spreads out; it is for the whole of humanity. #Quote by Desmond Tutu
Generosity quotes by Ruth Reichl
#147. One of mom's greatest acts of generosity was that she trained me to be defiant. Her great gift to me was encouraging me to be the person that I wanted to be, not the one that she and my father wished I was. #Quote by Ruth Reichl
Generosity quotes by Tim Chester
#148. It is bad enough when rich Christians shoe little concern for the poor, but when they moan about their lot, they show contempt not only for the poor but also for the generosity of God. #Quote by Tim Chester
Generosity quotes by James S.A. Corey
#149. The messages coming back flooded the comm buffers with rage and sorrow, threats of vengeance and offers of aid. Those last were the hardest. New colonies still trying to force their way into local ecosystems so exotic that their bodies could hardly recognize them as life at all, isolated, exhausted, sometimes at the edge of their resources. And what they wanted was to send back help. He listened to their voices, saw the distress in their eyes. He couldn't help, but love them a little bit.

Under the best conditions, disasters and plagues did that. It wasn't universally true. There would always be hoarders and price gouging, people who closed their doors to refugees and left them freezing and starving. But the impulse to help was there too. To carry a burden together, even if it meant having less for yourself. Humanity had come as far as it had in a haze of war, sickness, violence, and genocide. History was drenched in blood. But it also had cooperation and kindness, generosity, intermarriage. The one didn't come without the other. #Quote by James S.A. Corey
Generosity quotes by William Lyon Phelps
#150. I do not know how wicked American millionaires are, but as I travel about and see the results of their generosity in the form of hospitals, churches, public libraries, universities, parks, recreation grounds, art museums and theatres I wonder what on earth we should do without them. #Quote by William Lyon Phelps
Generosity quotes by Charlie Trotter
#151. Fernand Point's philosophy instilled what cuisine is all about: generosity and hugeness of heart. #Quote by Charlie Trotter
Generosity quotes by Jerry Lewis
#152. If I've learned anything in the more than 50 years that I've led MDA, it's that the generosity of the American people knows no bounds. I'm sure that with their fellow citizens in such dire need, they'll dig deep and do everything they can to help. I'm hopeful that many people will be willing to make two phone calls and donate to both causes. #Quote by Jerry Lewis
Generosity quotes by Dallas Willard
#153. We should, to begin with, think that God leads a very interesting life, and that he is full of joy. Undoubtedly he is the most joyous being in the universe. The abundance of his love and generosity is inseparable from his infinite joy. All of the good and beautiful things from which we occasionally drink tiny droplets of soul-exhilarating joy, God continuously experiences in all their breadth and depth and richness. #Quote by Dallas Willard
Generosity quotes by Tom Allen
#154. The Sudanese have delighted me, not only in their generosity and simplicity, but also in their tendency to take tea with milk and not to hesitate to dunk biscuits in it. As an Englishman, you can imagine the feeling of fraternal closeness that this activity has generated. #Quote by Tom Allen
Generosity quotes by Remigio Bongulielmi
#155. To many, love is both a blessing and a curse. From love springs bliss and utter ruin. But they are confused. What they describe is a selfish version of love - a dark pretender. If anyone seeks this kind of love, they will never find grace. True Love is unconditional generosity and requires nothing in return. True Love takes nothing for self, but only gives to others. #Quote by Remigio Bongulielmi
Generosity quotes by Richard Dawkins
#156. Let us try to teach generosity and altruism, because we are born selfish. Let us understand what our own selfish genes are up to, because we may then at least have the chance to upset their designs, something that no other species has ever aspired to do. #Quote by Richard Dawkins
Generosity quotes by Leonard Jacobson
#157. Gratitude, generosity and humility are inherent characteristics of one who is present. When you awaken, you will realize that everyone and everything has the same right to be here as you do. This includes every human Being, every tree Being, every flower Being, and every other kind of Being. #Quote by Leonard Jacobson
Generosity quotes by John Ortberg
#158. Tithing is considerably less popular than words like generosity or sharing. #Quote by John Ortberg
Generosity quotes by Adam Hochschild
#159. Today we are less likely to speak of humanitarianism, with its overtones of paternalistic generosity, and more likely to speak of human rights. The basic freedoms in life are not seen as gifts to be doled out by benevolent well-wishers, but as Casement said at his trial, as those rights to which all human beings are entitled from birth. It is this spirit which underlies organizations like Amnesty International, with its belief that putting someone in prison solely for his or her opinion is a crime, whether it happens in China or Turkey or Argentina and Medecins Sans Frontieres, with its belief that a sick child is entitled to medical care, whether in Rwanda or Honduras or the South Bronx. #Quote by Adam Hochschild
Generosity quotes by Patrick Rothfuss
#160. It's like this: if you have one piece of cake, and you eat it, that's fine.
If you have two pieces of cake, you should probably share some with a friend. But maybe not. Occasionally we could all use two pieces of cake.
But if you have a whole cake, and you eat *all* of it, that's not very cool. It's not just selfish, it's kinda sick and unhealthy. #Quote by Patrick Rothfuss
Generosity quotes by Pankaj Mishra
#161. In the age of democratic nationalism, imperialism needed deeper self-justifications:
The idea that despotism of any kind was an offence against humanity, had crystallised into an instinctive feeling, and modern morality and sentiment revolted against the enslavement of nation by nation, of class by class or of man by man. Imperialism had to justify itself to this modern sentiment and could only do so by pretending to be a trustee of liberty, commissioned from on high to civilize the uncivilized and train the untrained until the time had come when the benevolent conqueror had done his work and could unselfishly retire. Such were the professions with which England justified her usurpation of the heritage of the Moghul and dazzled us into acquiescence in servitude by the splendour of her uprightness and generosity. Such was the pretence with which she veiled her annexation of Egypt. These Pharisiac pretensions were especially necessary to British Imperialism because in England the Puritanic middle class had risen to power and imparted to the English temperament a sanctimonious self-righteousness which refused to indulge in injustice and selfish spoliation except under a cloak of virtue, benevolence and unselfish altruism. #Quote by Pankaj Mishra
Generosity quotes by Nathaniel Branden
#162. There is overwhelming evidence that the higher the level of self-esteem, the more likely one will be to treat others with respect, kindness, and generosity. #Quote by Nathaniel Branden
Generosity quotes by Miguel Angel Ruiz
#163. My personal prayer is simply my joy to be alive, and to live in gratitude and generosity. #Quote by Miguel Angel Ruiz
Generosity quotes by Sharon Salzberg
#164. You can enhance the practice of generosity by observing those moments when the thought of giving does arise and you resist it. Feel the nature of the resistance - paint a word picture of it. Do you experience it as contraction, rigidity fearfulness? Explore it.
Then examine the impulse to give. What is that sense yielding, letting go, sharing? How would you describe the nature of the generous intention? Do you notice the release from grasping, the recognition that happiness will not come from holding on and clinging? #Quote by Sharon Salzberg
Generosity quotes by Michael Mullen
#165. If you listen closely to the voices of our veterans, you understand that yes, they all returned from war changed, but what never changed is this: They never forgot your generosity. They never forgot the power of opportunity. They never forgot the American dream. #Quote by Michael Mullen
Generosity quotes by Cary Attwell
#166. Dear Aunt Patty,
Thank you for coming to be part of what definitely ranks in the top five worst days of my life. While your generosity is appreciated, I am returning this gift, as forced bachelorhood necessitates total abstinence from bamboo placemats and matching napkin rings in my daily life.
Too much? #Quote by Cary Attwell

Generosity quotes by Ronald Reagan
#168. Directly down the lawn and accross the Ellipse from the White House are those ordered, classic lines of the Jefferson Memorial and the eyes of the 19-foot statue that gaze directly into the White House, a reminder to any of us who might occupy that mansion of the quality of mind and generosity of heart that once abided there and has been so rarely seen there again. #Quote by Ronald Reagan
Generosity quotes by Dara Horn
#169. Daniel Ziskind had once learned that time is created through deeds of true kindness. Days and hours and years are not time, but merely vessels for it, and too often they are empty. The world stands still, timeless and empty, until an act of generosity changes it in an instant and sends it soaring through arcs of rich seasons, moment after spinning moment of racing beauty. And then, with a single unkind deed, a single withheld hand, time ceases to exist. #Quote by Dara Horn
Generosity quotes by Miguel De Cervantes Saavedra
#170. The poor man is incapacitated from showing the virtue of generosity to anyone, though he may possess it in the highest degree; and gratitude that consists of disposition only is a dead thing, just as faith without works is dead. #Quote by Miguel De Cervantes Saavedra
Generosity quotes by Mahatma Gandhi

Generosity quotes by Tony Parsons
#175. There was an intelligence about him (Joe Strummer) that allowed his band to change and evolve, just as Johnny Rotten and the Sex Pistols were disappearing up their own bondage trousers. And there was a generosity about Strummer, too, a warmth and humanity about the guy. He was a brilliant musician, a beautiful man, and a charismatic artist. There is a part of me that bitterly resents the fact that the Clash never replaced the Rolling Stones in rock music's hall of heroes. But the Clash were not about milking if for a lifetime ... I thought they were the greatest band I had ever seen. And, half a lifetime on, in a large part of my soul, I still do ... They changed lives. They certainly changed mine. Because they made me believe that, with passion and commitment and a bit of fire in your belly, you could be exactly the person you wanted to be. #Quote by Tony Parsons
Generosity quotes by Isabel Allende
#176. Typical Chilean characteristics, such as sobriety, a horror of ostentation, of standing out over others or attracting attention, generosity, a tendency to compromise rather than confront, a legalistic mentality, respect for authority, resignation to bureaucracy, enthusiasm for political argument, #Quote by Isabel Allende
Generosity quotes by Jon Rubin
#177. When we travel for research our strategy is to simply move from kitchen to kitchen. It's truly a wonderful way to travel - food shopping, cooking and eating in one home for lunch and then another for dinner. The process of cooking takes us immediately into the rituals and rhythms of daily life and also places us firmly in the position of learners. We were meet with incredible generosity by all of the families we ate with. #Quote by Jon Rubin
Generosity quotes by Brin-Jonathan Butler
#178. Sometimes we're so desperate for greatness and what we believe greatness can give us in return that we bypass people's generosity. We're not generous to people. We're not caring to people. Instead, we're so selfish to grasp success because we believe our lives will be better once we succeed. But once you do become successful, that rarely happens. #Quote by Brin-Jonathan Butler

Generosity quotes by Paulo Coelho
#182. When you realized that you would have to ask for help, you did not feel humiliated. And when you learned that someone needed help, you showed them all that you had learned without fearing that you might be revealing secrets or being used by others.
To he who knocks, the door will open.
He who asks will receive.
He who consoles knows that he will be consoled.
Even if none of these things happens when you are expecting it to, sooner or later you will see the fruits of the thing you shared with such generosity. #Quote by Paulo Coelho
Generosity quotes by Jean-Paul Sartre
#183. I know. I know that I shall never again meet anything or anybody who will inspire me with passion. You know, it's quite a job starting to love somebody. You have to have energy, generosity, blindness. There is even a moment, in the very beginning, when you have to jump across a precipice: if you think about it you don't do it. I know I'll never jump again. #Quote by Jean-Paul Sartre

I think mentoring is essential in life, both being a mentor to someone and being mentored, and I think that when you are mentored it inspires a generosity in you to mentor others and that I know is what happened with me, so for instance, the people that come through my studio to work for me, it's not good enough for me to just give them a paycheck. #Quote by Carol Friedman

Nothing is so inspiring or uplifting as the sight of these splendid qualities in our friends. Keep them always in mind. #Quote by Marcus Aurelius

Generosity quotes by Don Richard Riso
#199. Generally speaking, 99 percent of the time life is benign and supportive. The ego leads us to fixate on the 1 percent when it is painful, dark, or tragic - although even in these times, it is usually only painful and tragic to us (our tragedy might be someone else's good luck). Although the mind imagines worst-case scenarios - like car crashes - most of our lives are not composed of these kinds of events. If we look at our lives more objectively, we see that reality is actually highly supportive of us - a miracle, if we could see it for what it is. The universe is much more generous than most of us have ever recognized or acknowledged, and in the face of this overwhelming abundance, it simply makes sense to awaken and open ourselves to this generosity. #Quote by Don Richard Riso
Generosity quotes by Luther Standing Bear
#200. "Civilization" has been thrust upon me since the days of the reservations, and it has not added one whit to my sense of justice, to my reverence for the rights of life, to my love for truth, honesty, and generosity, or to my faith in Wakan Tanka, God of the Lakotas. #Quote by Luther Standing Bear
