Communism quotes by William Blum
#1. The Soviet Union and something called communism per se had not been the object of Washington's global attacks. There had never been an International Communist Conspiracy. The enemy was, and remains, any government or movement, or even individual, that stands in the way of the expansion of the American Empire; by whatever name the US gives to the enemy - communist, rogue state, drug trafficker, terrorist. #Quote by William Blum
Communism quotes by Linus Pauling
#2. The problem of an atomic war must not be confused by minor problems such as Communism versus capitalism. An atomic war would kill everyone, left, right, or center. #Quote by Linus Pauling
Communism quotes by Norodom Sihanouk
#3. The best way to make Communists is to put the Americans into a place where there were no Communists before. #Quote by Norodom Sihanouk
Communism quotes by Hank Bracker
#4. Weston, having been born in Chicago, was raised with typical, well-grounded, mid-western values. On his 16th birthday, his father gave him a Kodak camera with which he started what would become his lifetime vocation. During the summer of 1908, Weston met Flora May Chandler, a schoolteacher who was seven years older than he was. The following year the couple married and in time they had four sons.
Weston and his family moved to Southern California and opened a portrait studio on Brand Boulevard, in the artsy section of Glendale, California, called Tropico. His artistic skills soon became apparent and he became well known for his portraits of famous people, such as Carl Sandburg and Max Eastman. In the autumn of 1913, hearing of his work, Margrethe Mather, a photographer from Los Angeles, came to his studio, where Weston asked her to be his studio assistant. It didn't take long before the two developed a passionate, intimate relationship. Both Weston and Mather became active in the growing bohemian cultural scene in Los Angeles. She was extremely outgoing and artistic in a most flamboyant way. Her bohemian sexual values were new to Weston's conventional thinking, but Mather excited him and presented him with a new outlook that he found enticing. Mather was beautiful, and being bisexual and having been a high-class prostitute, was delightfully worldly. Mather's uninhibited lifestyle became irresistible to Weston and her photography took him into a new and exciting art form. #Quote by Hank Bracker
Communism quotes by Vladimir Lenin
#5. Communists have become bureaucrats. If anything will destroy us, it is this. #Quote by Vladimir Lenin
Communism quotes by Edgar Cayce
#6. Through Russia, comes the hope of the world. Not in respect to what is sometimes termed Communism or Bolshevism
no! But freedom
freedom! That each man will live for his fellow man. The principle has been born there. It will take years for it to be crystallized; yet out of Russia comes again the hope of the world, #Quote by Edgar Cayce
Communism quotes by Karl Marx
#7. Then the world will be for the common people, and the sounds of happiness will reach the deepest springs. Ah! Come! People of every land, how can you not be roused. #Quote by Karl Marx
Communism quotes by Neel Burton
#8. Resentment is a powerful and corrosive force, both on the slippery left and the slippery right, and the history of humankind can largely be read as a history of resentment. Aside from a profound philosophy of capital, what we really need is a profound psychology and philosophy of resentment. We must learn to live for ourselves, without reference to the other, and, at the same time, to rise above and beyond ourselves. Or else history will keep repeating itself, and our life will be a living death. #Quote by Neel Burton
Communism quotes by Thomas Piketty
#9. I belong to a generation that came of age listening to news of the collapse of the Communist dicatorships and never felt the slightest affection or nostalgia for those regimes or for the Soviet Union. I was vaccinated for life against the conventional but lazy rhetoric of anticapitalism, some of which simply ignored the historic failure of Communism and much of which turned its back on the intellectual means necessary to push beyond it. I have no interest in denouncing inequality or capitalism per se - especially since social inequalities are not in themselves a problem as long as they are justified, that is, "founded only upon common utility," as article 1 of the 1789 Declaration of the Rights of Man and the Citizen proclaims. #Quote by Thomas Piketty
Communism quotes by George Orwell
#10. For the rest, she grew used to the life that she was leading - used to the enormous sleepless nights, the cold, the dirt, the boredom, and the horrible communism of the Square. After a day or two she had ceased to feel even a flicker of surprise at her situation. She had come, like everyone about her, to accept this monstrous existence almost as though it were normal. The dazed, witless feeling that she had known on the way to the hopfields had come back upon her more strongly than before. It is the common effect of sleeplessness and still more of exposure. To live continuously in the open air, never going under a roof for more than an hour or two, blurs your perceptions like a strong light glaring in your eyes or a noise drumming in your ears. You act and plan and suffer, and yet all the while it is as though everything were a little out of focus, a little unreal. The world, inner and outer, grows dimmer till it reaches almost the vagueness of a dream. #Quote by George Orwell
Communism quotes by Tom Wolfe
#11. Vietnam was really an idealistic thing to stop the spread of communism, which, incidentally, it did. It was a pretty costly way to do it, but it achieved its goal. #Quote by Tom Wolfe
Communism quotes by Bertolt Brecht
#12. Who fights for Communism must be able to fight and not to fight, to speak the truth and not to speak the truth, to perform services and not to perform services, to keep promises and not to keep promises, to go into danger and to keep out of danger, to be recognizable and not to be recognizable. Who fights for Communism has only one of all the virtues: that he fights for Communism. #Quote by Bertolt Brecht
Communism quotes by Leon Trotsky
#13. Everything is relative in this world, where change alone endures. #Quote by Leon Trotsky
Communism quotes by Malcolm X
#14. You show me a capitalist, and I'll show you a bloodsucker #Quote by Malcolm X
Communism quotes by Mikhail Gorbachev
#15. I am a Communist, a convinced Communist! For some that may be a fantasy. But to me it is my main goal. #Quote by Mikhail Gorbachev
Communism quotes by Anderson Cooper
#16. I graduated in 1989, and I'd focused almost entirely on the Soviet Union and communism ... so when the Berlin wall fell, I was, well, I was screwed. #Quote by Anderson Cooper
Communism quotes by Peter Hitchens
#17. State ownership of industry is no longer politically important or particularly contentious. Regulation by unaccountable national bodies, and even by more unaccountable supranational and global authorities, has quietly taken its place, with implication that few have yet grasped. #Quote by Peter Hitchens
Communism quotes by Dubravka Ugresic
#18. Stephen King is just one of the numerous modern engineers of human souls. This mega-writer got a mega-advance of seventeen million dollars for his latest book. The communist soul engineers would get an advance on their future historical guilt, crates of vodka, cirrhosis of the liver, and the constant possibility of a knock on the door from the KGB. #Quote by Dubravka Ugresic
Communism quotes by Jack Kemp
#19. The leaders of the Democratic Party aren't soft on Communism. They're soft on Democracy. #Quote by Jack Kemp
Communism quotes by Leonard Read
#20. Such terms as communism, socialism, Fabianism, the welfare state, Nazism, fascism, state interventionism, egalitarianism, the planned economy, the New Deal, the Fair Deal, the New Frontier are simply different labels for much the same thing. #Quote by Leonard Read
Communism quotes by Richard Wurmbrand
#21. Some tell me Preach the pure gospel! This reminds me that the Communist secret police also told me to preach Christ, but not to mention communism. Is it really so, that those who are for what is called a pure gospel are inspired by the same spirit as those of the Communist secret police? #Quote by Richard Wurmbrand
Communism quotes by A.E. Samaan
#22. LENIN = "Revolutionary Social Democracy"
American Socialists = "Democratic Socialism". What is the difference? The USSR held democratic referendums too; all of which increased the power of the central planners and reduced the individual to nothingness. #Quote by A.E. Samaan
Communism quotes by Bertolt Brecht
#23. It's sensible,
anyone can understand it.
It's easy.
You're not an exploiter,
so you can grasp it.
It's a good thing for you,
find out more about it.
The stupid call it stupid
and the squalid call it squalid.
It is against squalor and
against stupidity.
the exploiters call it a crime
But we know:
It is the end of crime.
It is not madness, but
The end of madness.
It is not the riddle
But the solution.
It is the simple thing
So hard to achieve.
-"Praise of Communism #Quote by Bertolt Brecht
Communism quotes by Jomo Kenyatta
#24. Some people try deliberately to exploit the colonial hangover for their own purpose, to serve an external force. To us, Communism is as bad as imperialism. #Quote by Jomo Kenyatta
Communism quotes by Alain Badiou
#25. I would say, if you like, that the party is like an out-moded mathematics ... that is to say, the mathematics of Euclid. We need to invent a non-Euclidian mathematics with respect to political discipline. #Quote by Alain Badiou
Communism quotes by Magda Szubanski
#26. The war cured me of all the "isms", he said. 'Nazism, communism, socialism, patriotism, nationalism, capitalism. I have seen them all. The problem is human nature. People. Shit always floats to the top. #Quote by Magda Szubanski
Communism quotes by Murray Rothbard
#27. The major reason for Keynes's rejection of communism was simply that he could scarcely identify with the grubby proletariat. #Quote by Murray Rothbard
Communism quotes by Eka Kurniawan
#28. Communism was born from a beautiful dream, the likes of which there will never be again on the face of this earth: that there would no longer be lazy men who eat their fill while others work hard and starve. #Quote by Eka Kurniawan
Communism quotes by Ron Paul
#29. We have depended on government for so much for so long that we as people have become less vigilant of our liberties. As long as the government provides largesse for the majority, the special interest lobbyists will succeed in continuing the redistribution of welfare programs that occupies most of Congress's legislative time. #Quote by Ron Paul
Communism quotes by Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn
#30. What the engineers had first seen in the October coup d'état was ruin. (And for three years there had been ruin and nothing else.) Beyond that, they had seen the loss of even the most elementary freedoms. (And these freedoms never returned.) How, then, could engineers not have wanted a democratic republic? How could engineers accept the dictatorship of the workers, the dictatorship of their subordinates in industry, so little skilled or trained and comprehending neither the physical nor the economic laws of production, but now occupying the top positions, from which they supervised the engineers? Why shouldn't the engineers have considered it more natural for the structure of society to be headed by those who could intelligently direct its activity? #Quote by Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn
Communism quotes by Armand Hammer
#31. People I meet today, especially journalists who interview me, are astonished to hear that Lenin told me, in effect, that Communism was not working and that the Revolution needed American capital and technical aid. #Quote by Armand Hammer
Communism quotes by A.E. Samaan
#32. The vitriol and viciousness is the inevitable result of a government increasingly deciding the vital aspects of people's lives. #Quote by A.E. Samaan
Communism quotes by Julius Evola
#33. The true state will be oriented against both capitalism and communism. At its center will stand a principle of authority and a transcendent symbol of sovereignty…. The state is the primary element that precedes nation, people, and society. The state – and with the state everything that is properly constituted as political order and political reality – is defined essentially on the basis of an idea, not by naturalistic and contractual factors. #Quote by Julius Evola
Communism quotes by Peter Van Der Veer
#34. What economists and political scientists today call the "rational choice of individuals," but what Smith called "the individual pursuit of happiness," leads according to this view in a mechanical way to general welfare. As Alexander Pope in his Essay on Man put it: "true Self Love and Social are the same." While this is the foundation of liberal capitalism, Marx's dialectical materialism is not different in its selection of the economy as the prime mover. In this way the economy becomes the most important purpose of society. Fortunately, the economy has laws of causation, or, at least, that is what economists would like us to believe. Statistics are gathered to provide an objectified view of reality that enables social engineering. The individual and the collective are simultaneously put in an economic framework that is secular not in the sense that it is nonreligious, since individuals can rationally pursue religious ends, but in the sense that a God-given order of society has been replaced by an order that is constantly produced by homo economicus" (p. 41). #Quote by Peter Van Der Veer
Communism quotes by Mo Yan
#35. When Communism has been realized, everyone will be a novelist. #Quote by Mo Yan
Communism quotes by George F. Kennan
#36. World communism is like [a] malignant parasite which feeds on diseased tissue #Quote by George F. Kennan
Communism quotes by Heather Marsh
#37. We are in a prison of our own minds holding our own chains around us. We create our oligarchs and fight for their right to oppress us. #Quote by Heather Marsh
Communism quotes by Andre Gide
#38. When everything belongs to everyone, nobody will take care of anything. #Quote by Andre Gide
Communism quotes by Jules Renard
#39. Socialism must come down from the brain and reach the heart. #Quote by Jules Renard
Communism quotes by Pyotr Kropotkin
#40. Vladimir Ilyich (Lenin), your concrete actions are completely unworthy of the ideas you pretend to hold.
Is it possible that you do not know what a hostage really is - a man imprisoned not because of a crime he has committed, but only because it suits his enemies to exert blackmail on his companions? ... If you admit such methods, one can foresee that one day you will use torture, as was done in the Middle Ages.
I hope you will not answer me that Power is for political men a professional duty, and that any attack against that power must be considered as a threat against which one must guard oneself at any price. This opinion is no longer held even by kings... Are you so blinded, so much a prisoner of your own authoritarian ideas, that you do not realise that being at the head of European Communism, you have no right to soil the ideas which you defend by shameful methods ... What future lies in store for Communism when one of its most important defenders tramples in this way every honest feeling? #Quote by Pyotr Kropotkin
Communism quotes by Karl Marx
#41. The 'free' laborer, thanks to the development of capitalistic production, agrees, i.e. is compelled by social conditions, to sell the whole of his active life, his birthright for a mass of pottage. #Quote by Karl Marx
Communism quotes by Ernest Hemingway,
#42. You had to have these peasant leaders quickly in this sort of war and a real peasant leader might be a little too much like Pablo. You couldn't wait for the real Peasant Leader to arrive and he might have too many peasant characteristics when he did. So you had to manifacture one. At that, from what he had seen of Campesino, with his black beard, his thick negroid lips, and his feverish, staring eyes, he thought he might give almost as much trouble as a real peasant leader. The last time he had seen him he seemed to have gotten to believe his own publicity and think he was a peasant. #Quote by Ernest Hemingway,
Communism quotes by Christopher Hitchens
#43. In his book The Captive Mind, written in 1951-2 and published in the West in 1953, the Polish poet and essayist Czeslaw Milosz paid Orwell one of the greatest compliments that one writer has ever bestowed upon another. Milosz had seen the Stalinisation of Eastern Europe from the inside, as a cultural official. He wrote, of his fellow-sufferers:

A few have become acquainted with Orwell's 1984; because it is both difficult to obtain and dangerous to possess, it is known only to certain members of the Inner Party. Orwell fascinates them through his insight into details they know well, and through his use of Swiftian satire. Such a form of writing is forbidden by the New Faith because allegory, by nature manifold in meaning, would trespass beyond the prescriptions of socialist realism and the demands of the censor. Even those who know Orwell only by hearsay are amazed that a writer who never lived in Russia should have so keen a perception into its life.

Only one or two years after Orwell's death, in other words, his book about a secret book circulated only within the Inner Party was itself a secret book circulated only within the Inner Party. #Quote by Christopher Hitchens
Communism quotes by Viet Thanh Nguyen
#44. Here was one representative example of Richard Hedd's highly esteemed Asian Communism and the Oriental Mode of Destruction: The Vietnamese peasant will not object to the use of airpower, for he is apolitical, interested only in feeding himself and his family. Bombing his village will of course upset him, but the cost is outweighed ultimately by how airpower will persuade him that he is on the wrong side if he chooses communism, which cannot protect him. (p. 126) #Quote by Viet Thanh Nguyen
Communism quotes by Aldous Huxley
#45. It is only when we have renounced our preoccupation with "I," "me," "mine," that we can truly possess the world in which we live. Everything, provided that we regard nothing as property. And not only is everything ours; it is also everybody else's. #Quote by Aldous Huxley
Communism quotes by Os Guinness
#46. I have lived under totalitarian Communism, so I prize freedom as much as anyone and have long fought for freedom of conscience and speech. #Quote by Os Guinness
Communism quotes by Dwight L. Moody
#47. Either these - unsaved people are to be evangelized, or the leaven of communism and infidelity will assume such enormous proportions that it will break you in a reign of terror such as this country has never known. #Quote by Dwight L. Moody
Communism quotes by Carlos Zen
#48. Although i hate having to admit this, but the one good thing those annoying communists did right was to treat religion like a type of addiction and completely banned all practicies of it
-Tanya Degurechaff (Youjo Senki) #Quote by Carlos Zen
Communism quotes by Nadezhda Krupskaya
#49. We should try to link our personal lives with the cause for which we struggle, with the cause of building communism. #Quote by Nadezhda Krupskaya
Communism quotes by Noam Chomsky
#50. That comes to about one hundred million people in India alone from 1947 to 1980. But we don't call that a crime of democratic capitalism. If we were to carry out that calculation throughout the world ... I wont even talk about it. But Sen is correct; they're not intended, just like the Chinese famine wasn't intended. But they are ideological and institutional crimes, and capitalist democracy and its advocates are responsible for them, in whatever sense supporters of so-called Communism are responsible for the Chinese famine. We don't have the entire responsibility, but certainly a large part of it #Quote by Noam Chomsky
Communism quotes by Stefan Molyneux
#51. Tyranny is the wolf cast by the shadows of sheep. #Quote by Stefan Molyneux
Communism quotes by Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn
#52. All Communist Parties, upon attaining power, have become completely merciless. But at the stage before they achieve power, it is necessary to use disguises. #Quote by Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn
Communism quotes by Richard M. Nixon
#53. Communism denies God, enslaves men, and destroys justice. #Quote by Richard M. Nixon
Communism quotes by Michael Burawoy
#54. I take as a point of departure the possibility and desirability of a fundamentally different form of society
call it communism, if you will
in which men and women, freed from the pressures of scarcity and from the insecurity of everyday existence under capitalism, shape their own lives. Collectively they decide who, how, when, and what shall be produced. #Quote by Michael Burawoy
Communism quotes by Harry S. Truman
#55. Our religious faith gives us the answer to the false beliefs of Communism ... I have the feeling that God has created us and brought us to our present position of power and strength for some great purpose. #Quote by Harry S. Truman
Communism quotes by Luke Harding
#56. Two decades after communism and the alleged end of the Cold War, Russia is still a cash economy. The preferred currency is dollars, though euros are also acceptable. #Quote by Luke Harding
Communism quotes by Ben Klassen
#57. Church and State should be united in the White Man's religion.- Global White Racial Loyalty and Solidarity must be our constant goal.- Race is everything. In order to survive and prosper, the White Race must overcome its five main enemies: Judaism, Christianity, Communism, Liberalism and Nationalism. #Quote by Ben Klassen
Communism quotes by Kurt Vonnegut
#58. Dwayne Hoover's and Kilgore Trout's country, where there was still plenty of everything, was opposed to Communism. It didn't think that Earthlings who had a lot should share it with others unless they really wanted to, and most of them didn't want to. So they didn't have to. *** #Quote by Kurt Vonnegut
Communism quotes by Jim Walsh
#59. Never, since the fall of communism, has it been so abundantly clear that an ethos exists, which is loath to accept the freedoms and prosperity we hold sacred in this nation. #Quote by Jim Walsh
Communism quotes by Oscar Auliq-Ice
#60. If capitalism was under another system which regulated it, so that supplies would fit the demand, rather than the suppliers trying to manipulate demands with deception to sell, then capitalism would be a great system. #Quote by Oscar Auliq-Ice
Communism quotes by Sheila Rowbotham
#61. It is only when women start to organize in large numbers that we become a political force, and begin to move towards the possibility of a truly democratic society in which every human being can be brave, responsible, thinking and diligent in the struggle to live at once freely and unselfishly. Such a democracy would be communism, and is beyond our present imagining. #Quote by Sheila Rowbotham
Communism quotes by Larry McDonald
#62. The drive of the Rockefellers and their allies is to create a one-world government combining super capitalism and Communism under the same tent, all under their control ... Do I mean conspiracy? Yes I do. I am convinced there is such a plot, international in scope, generations old in planning, and incredibly evil in intent. #Quote by Larry McDonald
Communism quotes by Eric Hobsbawm
#63. The paradox of communism in power was that it was conservative. #Quote by Eric Hobsbawm
Communism quotes by Ho Chi Minh
#64. It was patriotism, not communism, that inspired me. #Quote by Ho Chi Minh
Communism quotes by Henry Kissinger
#65. The cultural and political backgrounds of the two sides diverge in important aspects. The American approach to policy is pragmatic; China's is conceptual. America has never had a powerful threatening neighbor; China has never been without a powerful adversary on its borders. Americans hold that every problem has a solution; Chinese think that each solution is an admission ticket to a new set of problems. Americans seek an outcome responding to immediate circumstances; Chinese concentrate on evolutionary change. Americans outline an agenda of practical "deliverable" items; Chinese set out general principles and analyze where they will lead. Chinese thinking is shaped in part by Communism but embraces a traditionally Chinese way of thought to an increasing extent; neither is intuitively familiar to Americans. China #Quote by Henry Kissinger
Communism quotes by Warren Farrell
#66. It evolved from my experience in the fifties, growing up during the McCarthy era, and hearing a lot of assumptions that America was wonderful and Communism was terrible. #Quote by Warren Farrell
Communism quotes by Arthur Koestler
#67. Each wrong idea we follow is a crime committed against future generations. #Quote by Arthur Koestler
Communism quotes by Lyudmila Ulitskaya
#68. He had understood long ago that the past was no better than the present. That was as plain as day. One had to try to escape, to wrestle free from every era, so as not to be devoured by it. #Quote by Lyudmila Ulitskaya
Communism quotes by Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn
#69. Communism is as crude an attempt to explain society and the individual as if a surgeon were to perform his delicate operations with a meat ax. All that is subtle in human psychology and in the structure of society (which is even more complex), all of this is reduced to crude economic processes. The whole created being - man - is reduced to matter. It is characteristic that Communism is so devoid of arguments that it has none to advance against its opponents in our Communist countries. It lacks arguments and hence there is the club, the prison, the concentration camp, and insane asylums with forced confinement. #Quote by Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn
Communism quotes by Karl Marx
#70. But you Communists would introduce community of women, screams the whole bourgeoisie in union. The bourgeois sees in his wife a mere instrument of production. He hears that the instruments of production are to be exploited in common, and, naturally, can come to no other conclusion than that the lot of being common to all will likewise fall to women. He has not even a suspicion that the real point aimed at is to do away with the status of women as mere instruments of production. #Quote by Karl Marx
Communism quotes by Julius And Ethel Rosenberg
#71. If the English want a king, it is their business. If the Russians want communism, it is their business. If the Americans want our form of government, it is our business. #Quote by Julius And Ethel Rosenberg
Communism quotes by Joseph Conrad
#72. All idealization makes life poorer. To beautify it is to take away its character of complexity - it is to destroy it. Leave that to the moralists, my boy. History is made by men, but they do not make it in their heads. The ideas that are born in their consciousness play an insignificant part in the march of events. History is dominated and determined by the tool and the production - by the force of economic conditions. Capitalism has made socialism, and the laws made by the capitalist for the protection of property are responsible for anarchism. No one can tell what form the social organisation may take in the future. Then why indulge in prophetic phantasies? At best they can only interpret the mind of the prophet, and can have no objective value. Leave that pastime to the moralists, my boy. #Quote by Joseph Conrad
Communism quotes by Max Stirner
#73. Our athiests are pious people. #Quote by Max Stirner
Communism quotes by Jung Chang
#74. Instead of sniping at her like Mrs. Mi, Mrs. Ting let my mother do all sorts of things she wanted, like reading novels: before, reading a book without a Marxist cover would bring down a rain of criticism about being a bourgeois intellectual. #Quote by Jung Chang
Communism quotes by Susan Sontag
#75. Enemies are somewhere else, as the fighting is almost always "over there," with Islamic fundamentalism now replacing Russian and Chinese communism as the implacable, furtive menace. And "terrorist" is a more flexible word than "communist." It can unify a larger number of quite different struggles and interests. What this may mean is that the war will be endless
since there will always be some terrorism. #Quote by Susan Sontag
Communism quotes by Greg Gutfeld
#76. The Islamophobia phobes, (ph) the writers and the editors and the talking heads who deny an existence of evil while blaming those who speak up. There no difference - different than the apologists for communism. As communism killed millions, they, they denied it. #Quote by Greg Gutfeld
Communism quotes by John F. Kennedy
#77. Communism has never come to power in a country that was not disrupted by war or corruption, or both. #Quote by John F. Kennedy
Communism quotes by Evan Currie
#78. she knew that pacifism was the superior way of life. The problem was that it was a lot like communism in that it was only perfect on paper. Put it in the real world and things fell apart fast because it depended on the good will and behavior of people for it to work. And people are an ugly sort at the best of times. In the land of the blind, the one-eyed man was kind. In the land of pacifists, it was the man who was willing to throw a punch. #Quote by Evan Currie
Communism quotes by Ronald Reagan
#79. At my first press conference I was asked whether we could trust the Soviet Union, and I said that the answer to that question could be found in the writings of Soviet leaders: It had always been their philosophy that it was moral to lie or cheat for the purpose of advancing Communism. #Quote by Ronald Reagan
Communism quotes by Sara Sheridan
#80. Communism," I observed, "is a pile of wank. #Quote by Sara Sheridan
Communism quotes by Horace Rowan Gaither
#81. We operate here under directives which emanate from the White House ... The substance of the directives under which we operate is that we shall use our grant making power to alter life in the United States such that we can comfortably be merged with the Soviet Union. #Quote by Horace Rowan Gaither
Communism quotes by Juan Bosch
#82. Democracy was being saved from Communism by getting rid of democracy. #Quote by Juan Bosch
Communism quotes by Slavenka Drakulic
#83. Why communism failed: it failed because of distrust, because of a fear for the future.
Because deep down no body believed in a system that was continuously unable to provide for its life citizen's basic needs for forty years or more. #Quote by Slavenka Drakulic
Communism quotes by Jerzy Kosinski
#84. I felt lost in this maze. In the world into which Gavrila was initiating me, human aspirations and expectations were entangled with each other like the roots and branches of great trees in a thick forest, each tree struggling for more moisture from the soil and more sunshine from the sky. #Quote by Jerzy Kosinski
Communism quotes by Kliph Nesteroff
#85. You Bet Your Life's sponsor, Chrysler, was convinced only a Commie would dare promote racial equality. #Quote by Kliph Nesteroff
Communism quotes by Mikhail Bakunin
#86. If you took the most ardent revolutionary, vested him in absolute power, within a year he would be worse than the Tsar himself. #Quote by Mikhail Bakunin
Communism quotes by Stephen Ambrose
#87. D-Day represents the greatest achievement of the american people and system in the 20th century. It was the pivot point of the 20th century. It was the day on which the decision was made as to who was going to rule in this world in the second half of the 20th century. Is it going to be Nazism, is it going to be communism, or are the democracies going to prevail? #Quote by Stephen Ambrose
Communism quotes by Elvira Baryakina
#88. In Shanghai, there were several pro-right circles of former officers. They realized that the Great War and European revolutions were a direct consequence of rotten liberalism. Words like order, family, discipline and duty didn't mean anything anymore. Civil liberties, so dear to Nina Kupina and people like her, resulted in monstrous egotism and total moral degradation: I do what I want and don't give a damn about others. #Quote by Elvira Baryakina
Communism quotes by Pearl S. Buck
#89. Friendship between tow persons, or two nations, is an unbreakable bond, a tie which cannot be cut. An honourable heart does not cast aside a friend because he is in trouble, nor even if he changes his nature and becomes a criminal. Between two nations friendship must also be eternal, else the friend is false and being false in one event was always false. And what was our crime against the Americans? The Great Change? But is it a crime to change a government? By whose law can it be called a crime? It is of no more importance, between friends, than for one to change his garment! For this lack of reason our love for Americans is changed to hate. I fear for the future! A generation is growing up here in our country which has never seen an American face or heard an American voice. What do they know of Americans except to hate them as they are taught to do? There is no hate so dangerous as that which once was love.
- To the Americans, Communism is a crime. They will have none of it.
- But why, when it is ours, not theirs?
- I suppose this American concern with a form of government springs from their own history. Their ancestors fled from Europe to escape tyranny from their ancient rulers. Freedom was their dream. To them, therefore, tyranny is endemic in Communism. They will have none of it. It is not we who are Chinese whom they hate. It is the tyranny they imagine. #Quote by Pearl S. Buck
Communism quotes by Ezra Taft Benson
#90. Communism introduced into the world a substitute for true religion. It is a counterfeit of the gospel plan. #Quote by Ezra Taft Benson
Communism quotes by Julia Child
#91. People were hysterical about Communism the way people today are hysterical about flag burning. I'm really against these people who try to show that they're great patriots, because they're not thinking, they're just being hysterical. #Quote by Julia Child
Communism quotes by Karl Marx
#92. Communism deprives no man of the power to appropriate the products of society: all that it does is to deprive him of the power to subjugate the labor of others by means of such appropriation.
It has been objected, that upon the abolition of private property all work will cease, and universal laziness will overtake us.
According to this, bourgeois society ought long ago to have gone to the dogs through sheer idleness; for those of its members who work, acquire nothing, and those who acquire anything, do not work. #Quote by Karl Marx
Communism quotes by Mikhail Gorbachev
#93. In October 1917, we parted with the old world, rejecting it once and for all. We are moving toward a new world, a world of Communism. We shall never turn off that road. #Quote by Mikhail Gorbachev
Communism quotes by Tony Judt
#94. The history of the two halves of post-war Europe cannot be told in isolation from one another. The legacy of the Second World War - and the pre-war decades and the war before that - forced upon the governments and peoples of east and west Europe alike some hard choices about how best to order their affairs so as to avoid any return to the past. One option - to pursue the radical agenda of the popular front movements of the 1930s - was initially very popular in both parts of Europe (a reminder that 1945 was never quite the fresh start that it sometimes appears). In eastern Europe some sort of radical transformation was unavoidable. There could be no possibility of returning to the discredited past. What, then, would replace it? Communism may have been the wrong solution, but the dilemma to which it was responding was real enough.
In the West the prospect of radical change was smoothed away, not least thanks to American aid (and pressure). The appeal of the popular-front agenda - and of Communism - faded: both were prescriptions for hard times and in the West, at least after 1952, the times were no longer so hard. And so, in the decades that followed, the uncertainties of the immediate post-war years were forgotten. But the possibility that things might take a different turn - indeed, the likelihood that they would take a different turn - had seemed very real in 1945; it was to head off a return of the old demons (unemployment, Fascism, German militarism, war, revolution) #Quote by Tony Judt
Communism quotes by Jack Larson
#95. If you look at all forms of collectivism, be it communism or fascism, people are reduced to animals. #Quote by Jack Larson
Communism quotes by Greg Johnson
#96. Violence, of course, is generally associated with frankly totalitarian forms of anti-political utopianism like Communism, but the Second World War shows that liberal universalists are as capable of violence as Communists. They are just less capable of honesty. #Quote by Greg Johnson
Communism quotes by Ernest Hemingway,
#97. How would that premise stand up if he examined it? That was probably why the Communists were always cracking down on Bohemiansism. When you were drunk or when you committed adultery you recognised your own personal fallability of that so mutable substitute for the apostles' creed, the party line. Down with Bohemianism, the sin of Majakowski. #Quote by Ernest Hemingway,
Communism quotes by Kurt Vonnegut
#98. Communism is what Karl Marx hoped could be an economic scheme for making industrialized nations take as good care of people, and especially of children and the old and disabled, as tribes and extended families used to do, before they were dispersed by the Industrial Revolution. #Quote by Kurt Vonnegut
Communism quotes by Davis McCaughey
#99. The Western societies which espouse free market capitalism survive by the pursuit of greed and, in their own way, like Communism, throw into leadership men and women (mostly men) who know how to gain, exert and manipulate power. #Quote by Davis McCaughey
Communism quotes by U.G. Krishnamurti
#100. Those who are marching into the battlefield and are ready to be killed today in the name of democracy, in the name of freedom, in the name of communism, are no different from those who threw themselves to the lions in the arenas. The Romans watched that fun with great joy. How are we different from them? Not a bit. We love it. To kill and to be killed is the foundation of our culture. #Quote by U.G. Krishnamurti
Communism quotes by Dennis Prager
#101. There was a time when liberalism was identified with anti-Communism. But the Vietnam War led liberals into the arms of the Left, which had been morally confused about Communism since its inception and had become essentially pacifist following the carnage of World War I. #Quote by Dennis Prager
Communism quotes by Karl Marx
#102. In a higher phase of communist society, after the enslaving subordination of the individual to the division of labor, and therewith also the antithesis between mental and physical labor, has vanished; after labor has become not only a means of life but life's prime want; after the productive forces have also increased with the all-around development of the individual, and all the springs of co-operative wealth flow more abundantly - only then can the narrow horizon of bourgeois right be crossed in its entirety and society inscribe on its banners: From each according to his ability, to each according to his needs! #Quote by Karl Marx
Communism quotes by Neel Mukherjee
#103. I couldn't make any sense of this logic, that the better off got more and those had little got less. The world ran on this law and only on this. #Quote by Neel Mukherjee
Communism quotes by Eleanor Roosevelt
#104. We need not fear any isms if our democracy is achieving the ends for which it was established ... #Quote by Eleanor Roosevelt
Communism quotes by Jesse James Freeman
#105. I should write a serious book on China. If I did that and put in a lot of subtext about love and maybe compared it to the Great Wall or communism or something I could show the parallels between how we are forced to act in society due to cultural mores, versus how we really are, like, behind our own personal Jungian Great Walls. Then people would take my writing seriously like they do with Marni and Tess and that guy who wrote the Great Gatsby. #Quote by Jesse James Freeman
Communism quotes by Henry Johnson Jr
#106. Sometimes I wonder what the world would be like if we all got along. If there were no terrorism, Islamophobia, Western hypocrisy, corrupt government in African countries (especially Liberia), sexism, nativism, people like Donald Trump, stereotypes, war, Capitalism, Communism, Marxism and xenophobia. #Quote by Henry Johnson Jr
Communism quotes by Kwame Nkrumah
#107. It is only the ending of capitalism, colonialism, imperialism and neocolonialism and the attainment of world communism that can provide the conditions under which the RACE question can finally be abolished and eliminated. #Quote by Kwame Nkrumah
Communism quotes by Bertrand Russell
#108. In Labor movements generally, success through violence can hardly be expected except in circumstances where success without violence is attainable. #Quote by Bertrand Russell
Communism quotes by George Orwell
#109. The educated man pictures a horde of submen, wanting only a day's liberty to loot his house, burn his books, and set him to work minding a machine or sweeping out a lavatory. 'Anything,' he thinks, 'any injustice, sooner than let that mob loose.' He does not see that since there is no difference between the mass of rich and poor, there is no question of setting the mob loose. The mob is in fact loose now, and
in the shape of rich men
is using its power to set up enormous treadmills of boredom, such as 'smart' hotels. #Quote by George Orwell
Communism quotes by Douglas MacArthur
#110. It seems strangely difficult for some to realize that here in Asia is where the Communist conspirators have elected to make their play for global conquest, and that we have joined the issue thus raised on the battlefield; that here we fight Europe's war with arms while the diplomats there still fight it with words; that if we lose the war to communism in Asia the fall of Europe is inevitable, win it and Europe most probably would avoid war and yet preserve freedom. As you pointed out, we must win. There is no substitute for victory. #Quote by Douglas MacArthur
Communism quotes by Francisco Franco
#111. There will be no communism. #Quote by Francisco Franco
Communism quotes by Michael Gold
#112. I have never had the lust to meet famous authors; the best of them is in their books. #Quote by Michael Gold
Communism quotes by Ted Cruz
#113. Ronald Reagan reignited the American economy, rebuilt the Military, bankrupted the Soviet Union and defeated Soviet Communism. I will do the same thing. #Quote by Ted Cruz
Communism quotes by Albert Camus
#114. Atheism is humanism mediated by the suppression of religion, communism is humanism mediated by
the suppression of private property. #Quote by Albert Camus
Communism quotes by Mark Boyle
#115. I think every single thing we do is political. Even if you go to the shops and buy a packet of biscuits, then you're buying into the system, willingly or not. I think we're conditioned into thinking political systems as being either communism or capitalism. I think there are a lot more options available. We just haven't explored them. #Quote by Mark Boyle
Communism quotes by Naomi Klein
#116. During the Cold War, widespread alcoholism was always seen in the West as evidence that life under Communism was so dismal that Russians needed large quantities of vodka to get through the day. Under capitalism, however, Russians drinks more than twice as much alcohol as they used to - and they are reaching for harder painkillers as well. #Quote by Naomi Klein
Communism quotes by Slavoj Zizek
#117. Was 9/11 not the 20th congress of the American Dream? #Quote by Slavoj Zizek
Communism quotes by George Orwell
#118. Fear! We swim in it. It's our element. Everyone that isn't scared stiff of losing his job is scared stiff of war, or Facism, or Communism, or something. #Quote by George Orwell
Communism quotes by Vladimir Ilyich Lenin
#119. The task of a truly revolutionary party is not to declare that it is impossible to renounce all compromises, but to be able, through all compromises, when they are unavoidable, to remain true to its principles, to its class, to its revolutionary purpose, to its task of paving the way for revolution and educating the mass of the people for victory in the revolution. #Quote by Vladimir Ilyich Lenin
Communism quotes by Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn
#120. Of course, peace treaties are very attractive to those who sign them. They strengthen one's prestige with the electorate. But the time will come when the names of these public figures will be erased from history. Nobody will remember them any longer. But the Western peoples will have to pay heavily for these overtrusting agreements. #Quote by Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn
Communism quotes by Karl Marx
#121. Communism begins where atheism begins ... #Quote by Karl Marx
Communism quotes by Ryszard Legutko
#122. The ideological man is thus both absolutely suspicious and absolutely enthusiastic. There seems to be no idea under the sun that he would not put into question and make an object of derision, skepticism, or contempt, no idea that he would not reduce to an offshoot of hidden instincts, mundane interests, biological drives, and psychological complexes. Hence he is likely to despise reason as an autonomous faculty, to downgrade lofty ideals, and to debunk the past, seeing everywhere the same ideological mystification. But at the same time, he lives in a constant state of mobilization for a better world. His mouth is full of noble slogans about brotherhood, freedom, and justice, and with every word he makes it clear that he knows which side is right and that he is ready to sacrifice his entire existence for the sake of its victory. The peculiar combination of both attitudes--merciless distrust and unwavering affirmation--gives him an incomparable sense of moral self-confidence and intellectual self-righteousness. #Quote by Ryszard Legutko
Communism quotes by Martha Gellhorn
#123. A dock worker from East Ham also spoke of freedom. "You'll never find the English going Communist" he said. "We don't like it. It's not true Communism, it dictatorial. We want to say what we think. I'm a republican myself and I don't like the Royal Family. They all look as if a good day's work would kill them". #Quote by Martha Gellhorn
Communism quotes by Tony Judt
#124. In the first place, this is a history of Europe's reduction. The constituent states of Europe could no longer aspire, after 1945, to international or imperial status. The two exceptions to this rule - the Soviet Union and, in part, Great Britain - were both only half-European in their own eyes and in any case, by the end of the period recounted here, they too were much reduced. Most of the rest of continental Europe had been humiliated by defeat and occupation. It had not been able to liberate itself from Fascism by its own efforts; nor was it able, unassisted, to keep Communism at bay. Post-war Europe was liberated - or immured - by outsiders. Only with considerable effort and across long decades did Europeans recover control of their own destiny. Shorn of their overseas territories Europe's erstwhile sea-borne empires (Britain, France, the Netherlands, Belgium, Portugal) were all shrunk back in the course of these years to their European nuclei, their attention re-directed to Europe itself.
Secondly, the later decades of the twentieth century saw the withering away of the 'master narratives' of European history: the great nineteenth-century theories of history, with their models of progress and change, of revolution and transformation, that had fuelled the political projects and social movements that tore Europe apart in the first half of the century. This too is a story that only makes sense on a pan-European canvas: the decline of political fervor in the West (except #Quote by Tony Judt
Communism quotes by Edwin O. Reischauer
#125. The real strength of democracy is that anyone who is not specifically against it must ultimately be for it, while communism suffers from the great tactical liability that anyone who is not specifically for it is eventually forced to oppose it. #Quote by Edwin O. Reischauer
Communism quotes by Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn
#126. On the way from the Renaissance to our days we have enriched our experience, but we have lost the concept of a Supreme Complete Entity which used to restrain our passions and our irresponsibility. We have placed too much hope in political and social reforms, only to find out that we were being deprived of our most precious possession: our spiritual life. In the East, it is destroyed by the dealings and machinations of the ruling party. In the West, commercial interests tend to suffocate it. This is the real crisis. #Quote by Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn
Communism quotes by Ken Wilber
#127. In Democracy, man exploits man; in Communism, it's the other way round. #Quote by Ken Wilber
Communism quotes by Whittaker Chambers
#128. [It is b]etter to die on the losing side than to live under communisim. #Quote by Whittaker Chambers
Communism quotes by Ronald Reagan
#129. How do you tell a Communist? Well, it's someone who reads Marx and Lenin. And how do you tell an anti-Communist? It's someone who understands Marx and Lenin. #Quote by Ronald Reagan
Communism quotes by Omar Torrijos Herrera
#130. I don't like Communism because it hands out wealth through rationing books. #Quote by Omar Torrijos Herrera

Communism quotes by Pope Pius IX
#132. Socialism, Communism, clandestine societies, Bible societies ... pests of this sort must be destroyed by all means. #Quote by Pope Pius IX
Communism quotes by Amadeo Bordiga
#133. The degeneration of the revolution in Russia does not pass from the revolution for communism to the revolution for a developed kind of capitalism, but to a pure capitalist revolution. It runs in parallel with world-wide capitalist domination which, by successive steps, eliminates old feudal and Asiatic forms in various zones. While the historical situation in the seventeenth, eighteenth and nineteenth centuries caused the capitalist revolution to take liberal forms, in the twentieth century it must have totalitarian and bureaucratic ones. #Quote by Amadeo Bordiga
Communism quotes by Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn
#134. Of course in the present situation the Communists have to use various disguises. Sometimes we hear words like "popular front," at other times "dialogue with Christianity." For Communists a dialogue with Christianity! In the Soviet Union this dialogue was a simple matter: they used machine guns and revolvers. #Quote by Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn
Communism quotes by Doris Lessing
#135. That a work of the imagination has to be "really" about some problem is, again, an heir of Socialist Realism. To write a story for the sake of storytelling is frivolous, not to say reactionary.

The demand that stories must be "about" something is from Communist thinking and, further back, from religious thinking, with its desire for self-improvement books as simple-minded as the messages on samplers.

The phrase "political correctness" was born as Communism was collapsing. I do not think this was chance. I am not suggesting that the torch of Communism has been handed on to the political correctors. I am suggesting that habits of mind have been absorbed, often without knowing it.

There is obviously something very attractive about telling other people what to do: I am putting it in this nursery way rather than in more intellectual language because I see it as nursery behavior. Art - the arts generally - are always unpredictable, maverick, and tend to be, at their best, uncomfortable. Literature, in particular, has always inspired the House committees, the Zhdanovs, the fits of moralizing, but, at worst, persecution. It troubles me that political correctness does not seem to know what its exemplars and predecessors are; it troubles me more that it may know and does not care.

Does political correctness have a good side? Yes, it does, for it makes us re-examine attitudes, and that is always useful. The trouble is that, with all #Quote by Doris Lessing
Communism quotes by Francis George
#136. Love isn't blind. Love is reasonable. God is pure love, but He is also pure reason. If you separate reason from faith you'll end in violence. Either way, if you have a purely rationalistic scheme that is atheistic, for instance Communism was for social justice. Fascism was for the nation-state, which isn't automatically a bad thing. #Quote by Francis George
Communism quotes by Friedrich Hayek
#137. The complete collapse of the belief in the attainability of freedom and equality through Marxism," writes Peter Drucker, "has forced Russia to travel the same road toward a totalitarian, purely negative, non-economic society of unfreedom and inequality which Germany has been following. Not that communism and fascism are essentially the same. Fascism is the stage reached after communism has proved an illusion, and it has proved as much an illusion in Stalinist Russia as in pre-Hitler Germany."9 No less significant #Quote by Friedrich Hayek
Communism quotes by Charles Krauthammer
#138. ...every once in a while, a single person arises without whom everything would be different. Such a man was Churchill. After having single-handedly saved Western civilization from Nazi barbarism--Churchill was, of course, not sufficient in bringing victory, but he was uniquely necessary--he then immediately rose to warn prophetically against its sister barbarism, Soviet communism. #Quote by Charles Krauthammer
Communism quotes by Salman Rushdie
#139. Children, however magical, are not immune to their parents; and as the prejudices and world-views of adults began to take over their minds, I found children from Maharashtra loathing Gujaratis, and fair-skinned northerners reviling Dravidian "blackies"; there were religious rivalries; and class entered our councils. The rich children turned up their noses at being in such lowly company; Brahmins began to feel uneasy at permitting their thoughts to touch the thoughts of untouchables; while, among the low-born, the pressures of poverty and Communism were becoming evident…and, on top of all this, there were clashes of personality, and a hundred squalling rows which are unavoidable in a parliament composed entirely of half-grown brats. #Quote by Salman Rushdie
Communism quotes by Bill Maher
#140. I always compare marriage to communism. They're both institutions that don't conform to human nature, so you're going to end up with lying and hypocrisy. #Quote by Bill Maher
Communism quotes by Doris Lessing
#141. Political correctness is the natural continuum from the party line. What we are seeing once again is a self-appointed group of vigilantes imposing their views on others. It is a heritage of communism, but they don't seem to see this. #Quote by Doris Lessing
Communism quotes by Nguyen Cao Ky
#142. From its inception, South Vietnam was only considered to be an outpost in the war against communism. #Quote by Nguyen Cao Ky
Communism quotes by James Traficant
#143. Mr. Speaker, in 1848, Karl Marx said, a progressive income tax is needed to transfer wealth and power to the state. Thus, Marx's Communist Manifesto had as its major economic tenet a progressive income tax. Think about it, 1848 Karl Marx, Communism ... I say it is time to replace the progressive income tax with a national retail sales tax, and it is time to abolish the IRS, my colleagues. I yield back all the rules, regulations, fear, and intimidation of our current system. #Quote by James Traficant
Communism quotes by Martin Luther King, Jr.
#144. It is a sad fact that because of comfort, complacency, a morbid fear of communism, and our proneness to adjust to injustice, the Western nations that initiated so much of the revolutionary spirit of the modern world have now become the arch-antirevolutionaries. #Quote by Martin Luther King, Jr.
Communism quotes by David Korten
#145. Capitalism has defeated communism. It is now well on its way to defeating democracy. #Quote by David Korten
Communism quotes by Lyz Lenz
#146. According to Gallup, church attendance hovered around 39 percent in the 1930s and 1940s.7 It increased in the 1950s, when Dwight D. Eisenhower encouraged Americans everywhere to go to services. This was the sales pitch: America was now at war with communism, which was perpetuated by atheism. Americans could differentiate themselves from the godless hordes by exercising their freedom of religion. The call was taken up by religious leaders such as Billy Graham, and soon going to church was more than just something for the religious, it was part of being a good American. #Quote by Lyz Lenz
Communism quotes by Benito Mussolini
#147. State ownership! It leads only to absurd and monstrous conclusions; state ownership means state monopoly, concentrated in the hands of one party and its adherents, and that state brings only ruin and bankruptcy to all. #Quote by Benito Mussolini
Communism quotes by Andrew S. Grove
#148. "This compound should be available from most good drugstores." I got increasingly annoyed with this phrase because in the world I lived in, even ordinary soap was available only intermittently ... In an economy that operated by central planning, shortages of just about everything were commonplace." the author dexcribing life in Hungary in the 1950s under Communist Russian rule. #Quote by Andrew S. Grove
Communism quotes by Joseph Stein
#149. After Jacob had worked for Laban for seven years, do you know what happened? Laban fooled him and gave him his ugly daughter Leah. So to marry Rachel, Jacob was forced to work another seven years.

So, you see, children, the Bible clearly teaches us you can never trust an employer. #Quote by Joseph Stein
Communism quotes by Salman Rushdie
#150. We must conclude that it is not only a particular political ideology that has failed, but the idea that men and women could ever define themselves in terms that exclude their spiritual needs. #Quote by Salman Rushdie
Communism quotes by Vladimir Lenin
#151. We are marching in a compact group along a precipitous and difficult path, firmly holding each other by the hand. We are surrounded on all sides by enemies, and we have to advance almost constantly under their fire. We have combined, by a freely adopted decision, for the purpose of fighting the enemy, and not of retreating into the neighbouring marsh, the inhabitants of which, from the very outset, have reproached us with having separated ourselves into an exclusive group and with having chosen the path of struggle instead of the path of conciliation. And now some among us begin to cry out: Let us go into the marsh! And when we begin to shame them, they retort: What backward people you are! Are you not ashamed to deny us the liberty to invite you to take a better road! Oh, yes, gentlemen! You are free not only to invite us, but to go yourselves wherever you will, even into the marsh. In fact, we think that the marsh is your proper place, and we are prepared to render you every assistance to get there. Only let go of our hands, don't clutch at us and don't besmirch the grand word freedom, for we too are "free" to go where we please, free to fight not only against the marsh, but also against those who are turning towards the marsh! #Quote by Vladimir Lenin
Communism quotes by Richard J. Evans
#152. Some authors have argued that a direct historical line can be drawn to Nazism from the French Revolution of 1789, the Jacobin 'Reign of Terror' in 1793-4, and the implicit idea of a popular dictatorship in Rousseau's theory of the 'General Will,' decided initially by the people but brooking no opposition once resolved upon. The French Revolution was indeed remarkable for its rehersal of many of the major ideologies that bestrode the historical stage of Europe in the following two centuries, from communism and anarchism to liberalism and conservatism. But National Socialism was not among them. The Nazis, indeed thought of themselves as undoing all the work of the French Revolution and rolling back the clock, in a political sense at least, much further to the early Middle Ages. Their concept of the people was racial rather than civic. All the ideologies to which the French Revolution had given birth were to be destroyed. The Nazi Revolution was to be the world-historical negation of its French predecessor, not its historical fufillment. #Quote by Richard J. Evans
Communism quotes by Walter E. Williams
#153. Communism and socialism is [sic] seductive. It promises us that people will contribute according to ability and receive according to needs. Everybody is equal. Everybody has a right to decent housing, decent food and affordable medical care. History should have taught us that when we hear people talk this stuff - watch out! #Quote by Walter E. Williams
Communism quotes by Ernesto Che Guevara
#154. Youth must refrain from ungrateful questioning of governmental mandates ... Instead, they must dedicate themselves to study, work and military service, should learn to think and act as a mass. #Quote by Ernesto Che Guevara
Communism quotes by Chris Hedges
#155. The amount of coercion needed to make society adhere to the model is "a rough measure of the model's validity." "That the Soviet Union had to use so much coercion undermined the credibility of communism as a model of reality," he said. "It is perhaps symptomatic that the USA, a society that elevates freedom to the highest position among its values, is also the one that has one of the very largest penal systems in the world relative to its population. It also inflicts violence all over the world. It tolerates a great deal of gun violence, and a health service that excludes large numbers of people. #Quote by Chris Hedges
Communism quotes by Elia Kazan
#156. I was the true future. I understood Communism better than they did. #Quote by Elia Kazan
Communism quotes by Mao Zedong
#157. Many who have read Marxist books have become renegades from the revolution, whereas illiterate workers often grasp Marxism very well. #Quote by Mao Zedong
Communism quotes by Upton Sinclair
#158. There was only one earth, and the quantity of material things was limited. Of intellectual and moral things, on the other hand, there was no limit, and one could have more without another's having less; hence "Communism in material production, anarchism in intellectual," was the formula of modern proletarian thought. As #Quote by Upton Sinclair
Communism quotes by Pope Francis
#159. This concern for the poor is in the Gospel, it is within the tradition of the Church, it is not an invention of communism and it must not be turned into an ideology, as has sometimes happened before in the course of history. #Quote by Pope Francis
Communism quotes by Madeleine Albright
#160. I spent my life studying communism and Soviet systems. #Quote by Madeleine Albright
Communism quotes by Muhammad Iqbal
#161. The Westerners have lost the vision of heaven, they go hunting for the pure spirit in the belly. The pure soul takes not color and scent from the body, and Communism has nothing to do save with the body. #Quote by Muhammad Iqbal
Communism quotes by Will Durant
#162. The greatest question of our time is not communism vs. individualism, not Europe vs. America, not even the East vs. the West; it is whether men can bear to live without God. #Quote by Will Durant
Communism quotes by Reuben Gold Thwaites
#163. They still possess virtues which might cause shame to most Christians. No hospitals are needed among them, because there are neither mendicants nor paupers as long as there are any rich people among them. Their kindness, humanity, and courtesy not only make them liberal with what they have, but cause them to possess hardly anything except in common. A whole village must be without corn before any individual can be obliged to endure privation. They divide the produce of their fisheries equally with all who come #Quote by Reuben Gold Thwaites
Communism quotes by Albert Camus
#164. Moreover, competition for foreign markets and the necessity for
larger and larger investments in raw materials, produce phenomena of concentration and accumulation.
First, small capitalists are absorbed by big capitalists who can maintain, for example, unprofitable prices
for a longer period. A larger and larger part of the profits is finally invested in new machines and
accumulated in the fixed assets of capital. This double movement first of all hastens the ruin of the middle
classes, who are absorbed into the proletariat, and then proceeds to concentrate, in an increasingly small
number of hands, the riches produced uniquely by the proletariat. Thus the proletariat increases in size in
proportion to its increasing ruin. Capital is now concentrated in the hands of only a very few masters,
whose growing power is based on robbery. Moreover, these masters are shaken to their foundations by
successive crises, overwhelmed by the contradictions of the system, and can no longer assure even mere
subsistence to their slaves, who then come to depend on private or public charity. A day comes,
inevitably, when a huge army of oppressed slaves find themselves face to face with a handful of
despicable masters. That day is the day of revolution. "The ruin of the bourgeoisie and the victory of the
proletariat are equally inevitable. #Quote by Albert Camus
Communism quotes by Anthony Marra
#165. Everything did change, faster than his fingers could type. What he had been too cautious to hope for was pulled from his dreams and made real on the television screen. At that momentous hour on December 26, 1991, as he watched the red flag of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics - the empire "empire extending eleven times zones, from the Sea of Japan to the Baltic coast, encompassing more than a hundred ethnicities and two hundred languages; the collective whose security demanded the sacrifice of millions, whose Slavic stupidity had demanded the deportation of Khassan's entire homeland; that utopian mirage cooked up by cruel young men who gave their mustaches more care than their morality; that whole horrid system that told him what he could be and do and think and say and believe and love and desire and hate, the system captained by Lenin and Zinoviev and Stalin and Malenkov and Beria and Molotov and Khrushchev and Kosygin and Mikoyan and Podgorny and Brezhnev and Andropov and Chernenko and Gorbachev, all of whom but Gorbachev he hated with a scorn no author should have for his subject, a scorn genetically encoded in his blood, inherited from his ancestors with their black hair and dark skin - as he watched that flag slink down the Kremlin flagpole for the final time, left limp by the windless sky, as if even the weather wanted to impart on communism this final disgrace, he looped his arms around his wife and son and he held them as the state that had denied him his life #Quote by Anthony Marra
Communism quotes by Milan Kundera
#166. She would have liked to tell them that behind Communism, Fascism, behind all occupations and invasions lurks a more basic, pervasive evil and that the image of that evil was a parade of people marching by with raised fists and shouting identical syllables in unison. #Quote by Milan Kundera
Communism quotes by Alexis De Tocqueville
#167. It's not an endlessly expanding list of rights - the 'right' to education, the 'right' to health care, the 'right' to food and housing. That's not freedom, that's dependency. Those aren't rights, those are the rations of slavery - hay and a barn for human cattle. #Quote by Alexis De Tocqueville

Communism quotes by Nien Cheng
#169. Pilfering was common in Communist China's state-owned enterprises, as the Party secretaries were slack in guarding properties that belonged to the government and poorly paid workers felt it fair compensation for their low pay. The practice was so widespread that it was an open secret. The workers joked about it and called it "Communism," which in Chinese translation means "sharing property." Pg. 390 #Quote by Nien Cheng
Communism quotes by Harry Shearer
#170. I think Nixon says a lot about those times. It was possibly hard, in the '90s and early 2000s to understand the grip of fear that communism had on the country in the 1950s and 1960s - a fear Nixon rode like a endless great wave on the Pacific to high office. I'm sure, though there's no evidence of it, one of the things that rankled him down deep was that it was called McCarthyism and not Nixonism. #Quote by Harry Shearer
Communism quotes by Mao Zedong
#171. We Communists never conceal our political views. Definitely and beyond all doubt, our future or maximum program is to carry China forward to socialism and communism. Both the name of our Party and our Marxist world outlook unequivocally point to this supreme ideal of the future, a future of incomparable brightness and splendor. #Quote by Mao Zedong
Communism quotes by Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn

#175. Ronald Reagan goes around saying that Nicaragua is communist and that communism is a threat to Central America. Why doesn't he say that he's a big capitalist, and that capitalism has made a great mess of Central America? Why doesn't he talk about what capitalism has done? We don't know what communism is, but we sure know what capitalism has done for us! #Quote by Elvia Alvarado
Communism quotes by George Orwell
#176. I always disagree, however, when people end up saying that we can only combat Communism, Fascism or what not if we develop an equal fanaticism. It appears to me that one defeats the fanatic precisely by not being a fanatic oneself, but on the contrary by using one's intelligence. #Quote by George Orwell
Communism quotes by Timothy Snyder
#177. Both fascism and communism [in the 20th Century] were responses to globalization: to the real and perceived inequalities it created, and apparent helplessness of the democracies in addressing them. Fascists rejected reason in the name of will, denying objective truth in favor of a glorious myth articulated by leaders who claimed to give voice to the people. They put a face on on globalization, arguing that its complex challenges were the result of a conspiracy against the nation. #Quote by Timothy Snyder
Communism quotes by Richard M. Nixon
#178. I also believe that academic freedom should protect the right of a professor or student to advocate Marxism, socialism, communism, or any other minority viewpoint - no matter how distasteful to the majority, provided ... #Quote by Richard M. Nixon
Communism quotes by P. W. Botha
#179. The free world wants to feed South Africa to the Red Crocodile [communism], to appease its hunger. #Quote by P. W. Botha
Communism quotes by Oliver Bullough
#180. In this way, the Church was a true reflection of the whole of Russian society. The KGB and the Russian people had penetrated each other to such an extent that they could not be separated. The culture of betrayal and suspicion and distrust that the KGB relied on had become part of the national culture, poisoning politics in the 1990s and beyond: decades of corruption, murder and sordid sex scandals. If it cannot purge itself, however, the Russian nation will never rid itself of the illness that has driven people to alcohol. Russians need to trust each other again. #Quote by Oliver Bullough
Communism quotes by P. J. O'Rourke
#181. Liberalism is just Communism sold by the drink. #Quote by P. J. O'Rourke
Communism quotes by Julia Penelope
#182. Checking out shoes when looking for Lesbians is an elimination device, a negative marker. Lesbians wear sensible shoes whenever possible. Irene and I have learned to pass right by a woman who looks like a Lesbian from head to ankle, but wears flimsy shoes with pointed toes and heels. She is sure to mention a husband by her second sentence.

So, what does a Lesbian look like? Well, we saw two old women drive into a campground in a large motorhome. One dog and no men accompanied them. These are Lesbian-positive clues. We seldom see old women in campgrounds unless they are accompanied by old men. They walked the dog, each wearing a long "ladies" winter coat and lipstick. We casually intercepted them.

"Nice dog," says Irene. The dog growled. We mentioned the movie about nuclear war on TV the night before.

"They should go to Russia. Show it to the Communists," they angrily replied. We walked on. If they were Lesbians, I did not want to know.

"Not Lesbians," pronounced my expert. "There are Lesbians who wear 'ladies' coats and Lesbians who wear lipstick. There are even Lesbians who prefer nuclear war to "Godless Communism"; but Lesbians would not let their dog growl at a woman without correcting it. #Quote by Julia Penelope
Communism quotes by Martin Luther King, Jr.
#183. Capitalism is always in danger of inspiring men to be more concerned about making a living than making a life. We are prone to judge success by the index of our salaries or the size of our automobiles, rather than by the quality of our service and relationship to humanity. #Quote by Martin Luther King, Jr.
Communism quotes by Vladimir Lenin
#184. But democracy is by no means a limit one may not overstep; it is only one of the stages in the course of development from feudalism to capitalism, and from capitalism to Communism. #Quote by Vladimir Lenin
Communism quotes by Jarod Kintz
#185. I am the red wheelbarrow of communism. William Carlos Williams wrote a poem about me. #Quote by Jarod Kintz
Communism quotes by Abhijit Naskar
#186. From communism to capitalism - from judaism to buddhism - from non-dualism to existentialism - people across time and geography have come together, to think, feel and behave as the collective - and they continue to do so. But the point is, this collective behavior, which we can most aptly call "bee-hive behavior", has been a two-edged sword - it has brought along breathtaking accomplishments for the species, but at the same time, it has caused heart-wrenching devastations. #Quote by Abhijit Naskar
Communism quotes by W. Cleon Skousen
#187. Marxist Man could not have come upon the earth at a more illogical time. In an age when technological advances have finally made it feasible to adequately feed, clothe and house the entire human race, Marxist Man stands as a military threat to this peaceful achievement. His sense of insecurity drives him to demand exclusive control of human affairs in a day when nearly all other peoples would like to create a genuine United nations dedicated to world peace and world-wide prosperity. Although man can travel faster than sound and potentially provide frequent, intimate contacts between all cultures and all peoples, Marxist Man insists on creating iron barriers behind which he can secretly work. #Quote by W. Cleon Skousen
Communism quotes by Karl Marx
#188. A spectre is haunting Europe-the spectre of Communism. All the Powers of old Europe have entered into holy alliance to exorcise this spectre: Pope and Czar, Metternich and Guizot, French Radicals and German police-spies. Where is the Party in opposition that has not been decried as Communistic by its opponents in power? Where the Opposition that has not hurled back the branding reproach of Communism, against the more advanced opposition parties, as well as against its reactionary adversaries? #Quote by Karl Marx
Communism quotes by Ned Vizzini
#189. I wish the world were like this, if I just woke up and marked the food I'd be eating and it came to me later in the day. I suppose it is like that, except you have to pay for whatever you want to eat, so maybe what I'm asking for is communism, but I think it's actually deeper than communism - I'm asking for simplicity, for purity and ease of choice and no pressure. I'm asking for something that no politics is going to provide, something that probably you only get in preschool. I'm asking for preschool. #Quote by Ned Vizzini
Communism quotes by John Lennon
#190. In Western-style Communism we would have to create an almost imaginary workers' image of themselves as the father-figure. #Quote by John Lennon
Communism quotes by Emil Cioran
#191. If utopia was illusion hypostasized, communism, going still further, will be illusion decreed, imposed: a challenge to the omnipresence of evil, an obligatory optimism. A man will find it hard to accommodate himself to it if he lives, by dint of ordeals and experiments, in the intoxication of disappointment and if, like the author of Genesis, he is reluctant to identify the Age of Gold with the future, with becoming. Not that he scorns the fanatics of "infinite progress" and their efforts to make justice prevail here on earth; but he knows, to his misery, that justice is a material impossibility, a grandiose meaninglessness, the only ideal about which we can declare quite certainly that it will never be realized, and against which nature and society seem to have mobilized all their laws. #Quote by Emil Cioran
Communism quotes by Martin Luther King, Jr.
#192. With all of its false assumptions and evil methods, communism grew as a protest against the hardships of the underprivileged. Communism in theory emphasized a classless society, and a concern for social justice, though the world knows from sad experience that in practice it created new classes and a new lexicon of injustice. #Quote by Martin Luther King, Jr.
Communism quotes by William L. Shirer
#193. It was at this time that he published an open letter to a Communist leader assuring him that Nazism and Communism were really the same thing. #Quote by William L. Shirer
Communism quotes by Mitchell Heisman
#194. The land of opportunity", "The American dream", "Life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness": these are the sounds of the great sucking mechanism of the American parasite. The reliance of seduction and persuasion over coercion that sold democracy to the American people eventually sold it to the rest of the world. Although there are a minority of examples of the direct parasitism of involuntary immigration, especially slaves from Africa and the "legal" incorporation of Native Americans, voluntary immigration through the lure of freedom and and equality is only a more indirect form of parasitic predation. What is voluntary can be no less predatory than coercion, just as capitalism can be no less predatory than military imperialism. From the point of view of competition among nations, the point is not whether a citizen or their ancestor originally arrived voluntarily or involuntarily, but whether a nation or ideology is successful in harnessing its human resources towards its national interest or way of life. American parasitism works because it offers the secular Judaism of liberalism rather than the secular Christianity of communism. Communism could never compete with the immigrant American hope that they themselves might one day be a filthy rich capitalist. #Quote by Mitchell Heisman
Communism quotes by Ronald Reagan
#195. One hundred nations in the UN have not agreed with us on just about everything that's come before them, where we're involved, and it didn't upset my breakfast at all. #Quote by Ronald Reagan
Communism quotes by James Russell Lowell
#196. Communism means barbarism. #Quote by James Russell Lowell
Communism quotes by Margaret Thatcher
#197. Communism produces neither dignity nor prosperity. It takes all power away from the people and places it in the hands of a self-appointed elite. And because it distorts and manipulates the distinctive talents of individuals rather than letting those talents flourish, it prevents progress and prosperity. #Quote by Margaret Thatcher
Communism quotes by Herve Falciani
#198. When I was young, I thought banks were there to protect the assets of people who had justified concerns, because of their experiences under communism for example. #Quote by Herve Falciani
Communism quotes by Jacque Fresco
#199. Every system tries to get people to conform to support that system. That goes for communism, socialism, free enterprise, or any other civilization. If they don't demand loyalty, they can't keep their civilization together. So what they do is they teach things that would support an established system. We do not advocate an established system. TVP talks of an emergent system into state of change. So that we always prepare people for the next changes coming ahead. So that people will not cling to the past. #Quote by Jacque Fresco
Communism quotes by Jack Kingston
#200. From a monarchy followed by suffering under Communism, Ethiopians must be given the opportunity to flourish under the greatest of systems - democracy. #Quote by Jack Kingston
