Art quotes by Paul Auster
#1. You're a dreamer, boy," he said. "Your mind is on the moon, and from the looks of things, it's never
going to be anywhere else. You have no ambitions, you don't give a damn about money, and you're
too much of a philosopher to have any feeling for art. What am I going to do with you? You need
someone to look after you, to make sure you have food in your belly and a bit of cash in your pocket.
Once I'm gone, you'll be right back where you started. #Quote by Paul Auster
Art quotes by Billy Joel
#2. Honesty is the best part of any art form. If you don't have that, you're kidding yourself and your listener. #Quote by Billy Joel
Art quotes by Thomas Keneally
#3. I was never any good at cricket thought I love it as a, as a sort of mystery. #Quote by Thomas Keneally
Art quotes by Morihei Ueshiba
#4. BE GRATEFUL EVEN for hardship, setbacks, and bad people. Dealing with such obstacles is an essential part of training in the Art of Peace. #Quote by Morihei Ueshiba
Art quotes by International Covenant On Civil And Political Rights
#5. Article 19

1. Everyone shall have the right to hold opinions without interference.

2. Everyone shall have the right to freedom of expression; this right shall include freedom to seek, receive and impart information and ideas of all kinds, regardless of frontiers, either orally, in writing or in print, in the form of art, or through any other media of his choice.

3. The exercise of the rights provided for in paragraph 2 of this article carries with it special duties and responsibilities. It may therefore be subject to certain restrictions, but these shall only be such as are provided by law and are necessary:

(a) For respect of the rights or reputations of others;

(b) For the protection of national security or of public order (ordre public), or of public health or morals. #Quote by International Covenant On Civil And Political Rights
Art quotes by Mindy Fordham
#6. Art lovers collect paintings that demonstrate some form of imperceptible complexity. Abstract images with vague messages and symbols that keep you guessing and wondering what it all means, if anything. What these art buffs don't seem to realize is that true complexity - the real abstract image - lies in something as simple and as random as a family photo. If they bothered to look deeply and closely enough into these unremarkable images, they would see the lies, the sorrow and the dark secrets that hide behind the superficial smiles and forced joviality. A picture is worth a thousand words, but most of those words get lost in translation. #Quote by Mindy Fordham
Art quotes by Gary Holland
#7. Creating art alone doesn't seem to fill us up, in my opinion, until we begin to truly communicate with it. #Quote by Gary Holland
Art quotes by Martin Puryear
#8. I'm interested in vernacular cultures, where people lived a little closer to the source of materials and the making of objects for use. And for me, not to rely strictly on the history of art has always been an interesting process, to be looking into areas that we call craft and trades. #Quote by Martin Puryear
Art quotes by Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi
#9. It is how we choose what we do, and how we approach it, that will determine whether the sum of our days adds up to a formless blur, or to something resembling a work of art. #Quote by Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi
Art quotes by James Joyce
#10. Art is the human disposition of sensible or intelligible matter for an esthetic end. #Quote by James Joyce
Art quotes by Wendell Berry
#11. To husband is to use with care, to keep, to save, to make last, to conserve. Old usage tells us that there is a husbandry also of the land, of the soil, of the domestic plants and animals - obviously because of the importance of these things to the household. And there have been times, one of which is now, when some people have tried to practice a proper human husbandry of the nondomestic creatures in recognition of the dependence of our households and domestic life upon the wild world. Husbandry is the name of all practices that sustain life by connecting us conservingly to our places and our world; it is the art of keeping tied all the strands in the living network that sustains us.
And so it appears that most and perhaps all of industrial agriculture's manifest failures are the result of an attempt to make the land produce without husbandry. #Quote by Wendell Berry
Art quotes by Anne Waldman
#12. I've multiplied, I'm 2.
He was part of me
he came out of me,
he took a part of me
He took me apart.
I'm 2, he's my art,
no, he's separate.
He art one. I'm not
done & I'm still one.
I sing of my son. I've
multiplied. My heart's
in 2, half to him & half
to you,
who are also a part
of him, & you & he
& I make trio of
kind congruity. #Quote by Anne Waldman
Art quotes by Woody Allen
#13. The artist's job is not to succumb to despair but to find an antidote for the emptiness of existence. #Quote by Woody Allen
Art quotes by M.I.A.
#14. That's what New York is like - you can't have real art happen in an institution because rich people can make the world stop. The stuff on the street is a lot more interesting. #Quote by M.I.A.
Art quotes by Dav Pilkey
#15. It's been said that adults spend the first two years of their children's lives trying to make them walk and talk, and the next sixteen years trying to get them to sit down and shut up.
It's the same way with potty training: Most adults spend the first few years of a child's life cheerfully discussing pee and poopies, and how important it is to learn to put your pee-pee and poo-poo in the potty like big people do.
But once children have mastered the art of toilet training, they are immeadiately forbidden to ever talk about poop, pee, toilets and other bathroom-related subjects again. Such things are now considered rude and vulgar, and are no longer rewarded with praise and cookies and juice boxes.
One day you're a superstar because you pooped in the toilet like a big boy, and the next day you're sitting in the principal's office because you said the word "poopy" in American History class (which, if you ask me, is the perfect place to say that word). #Quote by Dav Pilkey
Art quotes by Joe Bastianich
#16. Wine pricing is an art - like painting. #Quote by Joe Bastianich
Art quotes by Jason E. Hodges
#17. For the writer that has truly suffered, their pen, their words, their art will become as important as breathing. #Quote by Jason E. Hodges
Art quotes by Edmund De Waal
#18. All art is the result of one's having been in danger of having gone through an experience all the way to the end when no one can go any further. This is what it is like to be an artist – you are unsteady on the edge of life like a swan before an anxious launching of himself on the floods where he is gently caught. #Quote by Edmund De Waal
Art quotes by Queen Of Spades
#19. I never want the art of reviewing to ever feel like a chore. #Quote by Queen Of Spades
Art quotes by Louis De Bernieres
#20. Love is a temporary madness, it erupts like volcanoes and then subsides. And when it subsides, you have to make a decision. You have to work out whether your roots have so entwined together that it is inconceivable that you should ever part. Because this is what love is. Love is not breathlessness, it is not excitement, it is not the promulgation of promises of eternal passion, it is not the desire to mate every second minute of the day, it is not lying awake at night imagining that he is kissing every cranny of your body. No, don't blush, I am telling you some truths. That is just being "in love", which any fool can do. Love itself is what is left over when being in love has burned away, and this is both an art and a fortunate accident. #Quote by Louis De Bernieres
Art quotes by Daniele Vare
#21. Diplomacy is the art of letting the other party have things your way. #Quote by Daniele Vare
Art quotes by Thomas Kinkade
#22. The whole Modernist lie is that art is about the artist. #Quote by Thomas Kinkade
Art quotes by Chuck Jones
#23. Every artist has thousands of bad drawings in them and the only way to get rid of them is to draw them out. #Quote by Chuck Jones
Art quotes by Claire G. Coleman
#24. You think you are smarter than us, you think your brains are bigger, you think we can't learn. We know more than you, we have stories and songs, we have art and culture. What do you have? You have guns and fury and hate. The war has so far been about guns and death. When you think we are defeated, the war will change.

The next war will be about resilience and survival, culture and art. When that war begins you will discover you are not well armed. You have no art, your stories have no power. #Quote by Claire G. Coleman
Art quotes by Katarina West
#25. There is no vaccination against creative blocks. And nowhere else are they as devastating as in fashion which, unlike art or literature, dies the moment it is born. #Quote by Katarina West
Art quotes by Walter J. Phillips
#26. The importance of colour is as nothing compared with that of form, chiaroscuro and arrangement. They are the true and enduring bases of pictorial art. #Quote by Walter J. Phillips
Art quotes by Octave Feuillet
#27. The ideal itself is but truth clothed in the forms of art. #Quote by Octave Feuillet
Art quotes by Jasper Fforde
#28. Writing is a subtle art that is reached mostly by self-discovery and experimentation. #Quote by Jasper Fforde
Art quotes by Richard Serra
#29. When I moved into making sculpture, I could handle steel the way it had been handled in the technological revolution. I could use it the way bridge builders used it; I could use it the way they used it in industry and building and not the way it had been used in art. #Quote by Richard Serra
Art quotes by Kyle Cease
#30. Our job is to get out of the way of ourselves and let the art flow through us. We need to stop trying, stop doing, start allowing. We have no clue what we can be when you stop forcing and start being. #Quote by Kyle Cease
Art quotes by Gunter Grass
#31. Art is accusation, expression, passion. Art is a fight to the finish between black charcoal and white paper. #Quote by Gunter Grass
Art quotes by Doris Lessing
#32. It seems to me that being psycho-analysed is essentially a process where one is forced back into infantilism and then rescued from it by crystallising what one learns into a sort of intellectual primitivism-one is forced back into myth, and folk lore and everything that belongs to the savage or undeveloped stages of society. For if I say to you: I recognise in that dream, such and such a myth; or in that emotion about my father, that folk-tale; or the atmosphere of that memory is the same as an English ballad-then you smile, you are satisfied. As far as you are concerned, I've gone beyond the childish, I've transmuted it and saved it, by embodying it in myth. But in fact all I do, or you do, is to fish among the childish memories. of an individual, and merge them with the art or ideas that belong to the childhood of a people. #Quote by Doris Lessing
Art quotes by John Zorn
#33. I have art. I have music. I have the history, this legacy behind me that I can look up to. This is what I believe in. If you want to call it God or spirituality, that's all up to you. Basically I believe in something that's bigger than myself, and that gives my life meaning. #Quote by John Zorn
Art quotes by Gerhard Richter
#34. I don't create blurs. Blurring is not the most important thing; nor is it an identity tag for my pictures. #Quote by Gerhard Richter
Art quotes by John Ruskin
#35. If you can draw the stone rightly, everything within reach of art is also within yours. #Quote by John Ruskin
Art quotes by Susan Neiman
#36. Kitsch is much more than a question of style; it's a preference for consolation over truth. Disney's version of reality is not just cleaned up, it's pernicious. Unlike the best forms of art and philosophy, it undercuts the possibility of transformation because it portrays a world that's just fine as it is
or as it will be by the time the credits come up. #Quote by Susan Neiman
Art quotes by Rumi
#37. You live in my heart where no one sees you but I do. That vision becomes this art. #Quote by Rumi
Art quotes by Naima Coster
#38. They smoked and drank as if they were already defeated, hardened, and long out of art school. #Quote by Naima Coster
Art quotes by Jack White
#39. The wonderful news is that when a person with my lack of art background can be successful, then anyone can. I'm not super talented and had no art training. Nothing, nada, zip. No workshops or classes. #Quote by Jack White
Art quotes by Helen Maryles Shankman
#40. The terrible things that happen to us," Tessa said slowly. "What we
do with them ... I think that's what makes us artists. #Quote by Helen Maryles Shankman
Art quotes by Miguel Angel Silvestre
#41. In Spain, after the dictatorship, thanks to Pedro Almodovar, many artists put on the streets through art a big explosion of freedom. #Quote by Miguel Angel Silvestre
Art quotes by Elizabeth Stuart Phelps Ward
#42. The Girl of the Period, sauntering before one down Broadway, is one panorama of awful surprises from top to toe. Her clothes characterize her. She never characterizes her clothes. She is upholstered, not ornamented. She is bundled, not draped. She is puckered, not folded. She struts, she does not sweep. She has not one of the attributes of nature nor of proper art. She neither soothes the eye like a flower, nor pleases it like a picture. She wearies it like a kaleidoscope. She is a meaningless dazzle of broken effects. #Quote by Elizabeth Stuart Phelps Ward
Art quotes by James P. Cannon
#43. The art of politics is knowing what to do next. #Quote by James P. Cannon
Art quotes by William James
#44. The science of logic never made a man reason rightly, and the science of ethics never made a man behave rightly. The most such sciences can do is to help us to catch ourselves up and check ourselves, if we start to reason or to behave wrongly; and to criticise ourselves more articulately after we have made mistakes. #Quote by William James
Art quotes by Thomas Jefferson
#45. I view great cities as pestilential to the morals, the health, and the liberties of man. #Quote by Thomas Jefferson
Art quotes by T. S. Eliot
#46. No poet, no artist of any art, has his complete meaning alone. His significance, his appreciation is the appreciation of his relation to the dead poets and artists. You cannot value him alone; you must set him, for contrast and comparison, among the dead. #Quote by T. S. Eliot
Art quotes by Sun Tzu
#47. Fierce language and pretentious advances are signs that the enemy is about to retreat. #Quote by Sun Tzu
Art quotes by Philip Pullman

Art quotes by E.H. Gombrich
#49. The artist gives the beholder increasingly 'more to do,' he draws him into the magic circle of creation and allows him to experience something of the thrill of 'making' which had once been the privilege of the artist #Quote by E.H. Gombrich
Art quotes by Frank Zappa
#50. Her head is full of bubbles, her nose is petite, she looks like she never gets nothing to eat. #Quote by Frank Zappa
Art quotes by John Petrucci
#51. The Majesty guitar symbolizes the very reason why I am so proud to be a Music Man artist. I had the idea for this guitar a couple of years ago but it is because of their innovative spirit and dedication to the art of guitar building that it is now a reality. I am so grateful that I am able to collaborate with the best guitar company on the planet and so incredibly proud that together we have created what is to me, the perfect musical instrument for guitar players. I really hope you get a chance to play one and am confident that you will feel the same! #Quote by John Petrucci
Art quotes by Rajneesh
#52. An intelligent man, a man who has a little meditative consciousness, can make his life a beautiful piece of art, can make it so full of love and full of music and full of poetry and full of dance that there are no limitations for it. Life is not hard. It is man's stupidity that makes it hard. #Quote by Rajneesh
Art quotes by Ovid
#53. The art of medicine in the season lies:
Wine given in season oft will benefit,
Which out of season injures. #Quote by Ovid
Art quotes by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

Art quotes by John Le Carre
#55. Some fieldmen, and particularly the clever ones, take a perverse pride in not knowing the whole picture. Their art consists in the deft handling of loose ends, and stops there stubbornly. #Quote by John Le Carre
Art quotes by Marcel Duchamp
#56. Art is not about itself but the attention we bring to it. #Quote by Marcel Duchamp
Art quotes by H.G.Wells

Art quotes by Thomas Carlyle
#58. Speech is human, silence is divine, yet also brutish and dead: therefore we must learn both arts. #Quote by Thomas Carlyle
Art quotes by Thomas Jefferson
#59. I may grow rich by an art I am compelled to follow; I may recover health by medicines I am compelled to take against my own judgment; but I cannot be saved by a worship I disbelieve and abhor. #Quote by Thomas Jefferson
Art quotes by Edward Abbey
#60. Romanticism was more than merely an alternative to a sterile classicism; romanticism made possible, especially in art, a great expansion of the human consciousness. #Quote by Edward Abbey

Art quotes by Dr Syed Muhammad Zeeshan Hussain Almashhadi

#67. Art is not a handicraft, it is the transmission of feeling the artist has experienced. #Quote by Leo Tolstoy
Art quotes by Lewis Thomas
#68. Selfness is an essential fact of life. The thought of nonselfness, precise sameness is terrifying. #Quote by Lewis Thomas
Art quotes by Pranab Mukherjee
#69. India is a land of plenty inhibited by poverty; India has an enthralling, uplifting civilization that sparkles not only in our magnificent art, but also in the enormous creativity and humanity of our daily life in city and village. #Quote by Pranab Mukherjee
Art quotes by Robert Adams
#70. The only things that distinguish the photographer from everybody else are his pictures: they alone are the basis for our special interest in him. If pictures cannot be understood without knowing details of the artist's private life, then that is a reason for faulting them; major art, by definition, can stand independent of its maker. #Quote by Robert Adams
Art quotes by John Burroughs
#71. I do not think I exaggerate the importance or the charms of pedestrianism, or our need as a people to cultivate the art. I think it would tend to soften the national manners, to teach us the meaning of leisure, to acquaint us with the charms of the open air, to strengthen and foster the tie between the race and the land. No one else looks out upon the world so kindly and charitably as the pedestrian; no one else gives and takes so much from the country he passes through. #Quote by John Burroughs
Art quotes by Joe Meno
#72. I don't like the fact that no one has any imagination anymore. It doesn't pay to be a dreamer because all they really want you to do is answer the phone. Nobody wants you to think about anything new or use your brain or make anything interesting because everything important has already been made. America is over; it's done being brilliant.Everything genius has already been built, like all the great works of art have already been produced. #Quote by Joe Meno
Art quotes by Gustave Flaubert
#73. Do not imagine you can exorcise what oppresses you in life by giving vent to it in art. #Quote by Gustave Flaubert
Art quotes by Debasish Mridha
#74. Art is the reflection of an imaginative mind. #Quote by Debasish Mridha
Art quotes by Francois Truffaut
#75. There are two kinds of directors; those who have the public in mind when they conceive and make their films and those who don't consider the public at all. For the former, cinema is an art of spectacle; for the latter, it is an individual adventure. There is nothing intrinsically better about one or the other; it's simply a matter of different approaches. For Hitchcock as for Renoir, as for that matter almost all American directors, a film has not succeeded unless it is a success, that is, unless it touches the public that one has had in mind right from the moment of choosing the subject matter to the end of production. While Bresson, Tati, Rossellini, Ray make films their own way and then invite the public to join the "game," Renoir, Clouzot, Hitchcock and Hawks make movies for the public, and ask themselves all the questions they think will interest their audience. Alfred Hitchcock, who is a remarkably intelligent man, formed the habit early--right from the start of his career in England--of predicting each aspect of his films. All his life he has worked to make his own tastes coincide with the public', emphasizing humor in his English period and suspense in his American period. This dosage of humor and suspense has made Hitchcock one of the most commercial directors in the world (his films regularly bring in four times what they cost). It is the strict demands he makes on himself and on his art that have made him a great director. #Quote by Francois Truffaut
Art quotes by Robert Coppola Schwartzman
#76. That's the thing about music: It's forever. Hopefully, you captured a moment musically that has a timeless quality people will find relevant to their lives at any point. That's the whole idea about what I love about art and music. #Quote by Robert Coppola Schwartzman
Art quotes by Eliezer Yudkowsky
#77. So much of a rationalist's skill is below the level of words. It makes for challenging work in trying to convey the Art through blog posts. People will agree with you, but then, in the next sentence, do something subdeliberative that goes in the opposite direction. Not that I'm complaining! A major reason I'm posting here is to observe what my words haven't conveyed. #Quote by Eliezer Yudkowsky
Art quotes by Theodore Bikel
#78. In my world, history comes down to language and art. No one cares much about what battles were fought, who won them and who lost them - unless there is a painting, a play, a song or a poem that speaks of the event. #Quote by Theodore Bikel
Art quotes by Thom Mayne
#79. The huge problem in our society is the enormous ignorance of the ideas that underlie modern art. #Quote by Thom Mayne
Art quotes by Warren Ellis
#80. He wasn't pleased with himself for appraising the girl in the tank. He thought of her as half-pretty, the sort of girl one would find modeling for art classes in dire community colleges. Putting her cheap panties and her ex-boyfriend's shirt back on to wander around the easels afterward and wondering how grotesque she must really be, to have summoned up the deformities whacked down in merciless charcoal strikes. #Quote by Warren Ellis
Art quotes by Agnes Martin
#81. That which takes us by surprise-moments of happiness-that is inspiration. #Quote by Agnes Martin
Art quotes by Rebecca Solnit
#82. I look over at my hero shelf and see Philip Levine, Rainer Maria Rilke, Virginia Woolf, Shunryu Suzuki, Adrienne Rich, Pablo Neruda, Subcomandante Marcos, Eduardo Galeano, James Baldwin. These books are, if they are instructions at all, instructions in extending our identities out into the world, human and nonhuman, in imagination as a great act of empathy that lifts you out of yourself, not locks you down into your gender.
("80 Books No Woman Should Read") #Quote by Rebecca Solnit
Art quotes by Jonny Greenwood
#83. I think it should be ambitious and good music does deal with life and art and all these wonderful things. #Quote by Jonny Greenwood
Art quotes by Robert Louis Stevenson
#84. Literature, although it stands apart by reason of the great destiny and general use of its medium in the affairs of men, is yet an art like other arts. Of these we may distinguish two great classes: those arts, like sculpture, painting, acting, which are representative, or as used to be said very clumsily, imitative; and those, like architecture, music, and the dance, which are self-sufficient, and merely presentative. #Quote by Robert Louis Stevenson
Art quotes by Joan Sutherland
#85. My voice was obviously God given and I have tried to give of myself honestly. #Quote by Joan Sutherland
Art quotes by Madeleine L'Engle
#86. A great ring of pure & endless light
Dazzles the darkness in my heart
And breaks apart the dusky clouds of night.
The end of all is hinted in the start.
When we are born we bear the seeds of blight;
Around us life & death are torn apart,
Yet a great ring of pure and endless light
Dazzles the darkness in my heart.
It lights the world to my delight.
Infinity is present in each part.
A loving smile contains all art.
The motes of starlight spark & dart.
A grain of sand holds power & might.
Infinity is present in each part,
And a great ring of pure and endless light
Dazzles the darkness in my heart. #Quote by Madeleine L'Engle
Art quotes by Jeffrey Deitch
#87. Celebrity has become, for better or worse, an art form. An artist can use themselves as a medium to become a celebrity as a walking work of art. #Quote by Jeffrey Deitch
Art quotes by Friedrich Schleiermacher
#88. The first, that their pretensions to this possession of an art properly so called in their art of speaking are entirely unfounded; and the second, that they are involved in a profound mistake in their confusion of the good with the pleasant. #Quote by Friedrich Schleiermacher
Art quotes by August Wilson
#89. All of art is a search for ways of being, of living life more fully. #Quote by August Wilson
Art quotes by Randy Sandke
#90. To date, [Wynton] Marsalis has received a total of nine Grammy Awards; a Pulitzer Prize (the first ever awarded to a jazz musician) ... and twenty-nine honorary degrees, including Columbia, Brown, Princeton and Yale; the National Medal of Arts; and numerous awards from other countries. #Quote by Randy Sandke
Art quotes by Edward Bond
#91. Art is the close scrutiny of reality and therefore I put on the stage only those things that I know happen in our society. #Quote by Edward Bond
Art quotes by Steven Pinker
#92. Whenever you feel an impulse to perpetrate a piece of exceptionally fine writing, obey it - wholeheartedly - and delete it before sending your manuscript to press. Murder your darlings. #Quote by Steven Pinker
Art quotes by E.A. Bucchianeri
#93. (The Mona Lisa), that really is the ugliest portrait I've seen, the only thing that supposedly makes it famous is the mystery behind it, Katherine admitted as she remembered her trips to the Louvre and how she shook her head at the poor tourists crowding around to see a jaundiced, eyebrow-less lady that reminded her of tight-lipped Washington on the dollar bill. Surely, they could have chosen a better portrait of the First President for their currency? #Quote by E.A. Bucchianeri
Art quotes by Walter Benjamin
#94. Painting, by its nature, cannot provide an object of simultaneous collective reception ... as film is able to do today ... And while efforts have been made to present paintings to the masses in galleries and salons, this mode of reception gives the masses no means of organizing and regulating their response. Thus, the same public which reacts progressively to a slapstick comedy inevitably displays a backward attitude toward Surrealism. #Quote by Walter Benjamin
Art quotes by Victor Pinchuk
#95. Art, freedom and creativity will change society faster than politics. #Quote by Victor Pinchuk
Art quotes by Joe Papagoda
#96. Art is unpredictable. #Quote by Joe Papagoda
Art quotes by Sheila Heti
#97. Sholem [a painter] was saying that freedom, for him, is having the technical facility to be able to execute whatever he wants, just whatever image he has in his mind. But that's not freedom! That's control, or power. Whereas I think Margaux understands freedom to be the freedom to take risks, the freedom to do something bad or appear foolish. To not recognize that difference is a pretty big thing. [ ... ]
"It's like with improv," Misha said. "True improv is about surprising yourself
but most people won't improvise truthfully. They're afraid. What they do is pull from their bag of tricks. They take what they already know how to do and apply it to the present situation. But that's cheating! And cheating's bad for an artist. It's bad in life
but it's really bad in art." -p.20-1, How Should A Person Be #Quote by Sheila Heti
Art quotes by Paul Caponigro
#98. Under all of the factors that make up the art world, it's up to the individual artist to discern which of those influences are present and at what time and what really serves the deeper process that is constantly running like a stream underground. Influence is incessant. Influence is a fact. But, carry a big shovel and dig constantly to clear away all the unessentials so that the origins of mystery and the poetic force of life can get into and inspire the work. #Quote by Paul Caponigro
Art quotes by John Baldessari
#99. I can't imagine a life without thinking, doing art. I don't feel any need to be a world traveler or an adventurer. I'm very happy doing what I'm doing. I think somehow I know that I should have a larger vision of art, but I can't think of what that would be. #Quote by John Baldessari
Art quotes by Kirsten Vangsness
#100. I like dressing how I like to dress, and I look like a little art statement. #Quote by Kirsten Vangsness
Art quotes by Kurt Vonnegut
#101. Practicing an art, no matter how well or badly, is a way to make your soul grow, for heaven's sakes. Now, I mean, I'm talking about singing in the shower, I'm talking about dancing to the radio, I'm talking about writing a poem to a friend
a lousy poem. #Quote by Kurt Vonnegut
Art quotes by Chinua Achebe
#102. Museums are unknown among the Igbo people. They do not even contemplate the idea of having something like a canon with the postulate: "This is how this sculpture should be made, and once it's made it should be venerated." No, the Igbo people want to create these things again and again, and every generation has a chance to execute its own model of art. So there's no undue respect for what the last generation did, because if you do that too much it means that there is no need for me to do anything, because it's already been done. #Quote by Chinua Achebe
Art quotes by Kathleen Tessaro
#103. There's an art to life. Some people have talent for it. A boundless hope illuminates them. Where others are vague and tentative, they have only sharp, clear edges. Energy soars; lights burn brighter when they enter a room. #Quote by Kathleen Tessaro
Art quotes by Andre Malraux
#104. An artist discovers his genius the day he dares not to please. #Quote by Andre Malraux
Art quotes by Liam O'Flaherty
#105. It's impossible for a creative artist to be either a Puritan or a Fascist, because both are a negation of the creative urge. The only things a creative artist can be opposed to are ugliness and injustice. #Quote by Liam O'Flaherty
Art quotes by John Roecker
#106. Roecker sure is a romantic about certain things, like art and music, though you might not know it from watching Live Freaky! Die Freaky!, his claymation musical retelling of the Helter Skelter Charlie Manson saga. #Quote by John Roecker
Art quotes by Susan Sontag
#107. We live in a time in which tragedy is not an art form but a form of history. #Quote by Susan Sontag
Art quotes by Carmelo Anthony
#108. At the end of the day, you want to be always the one that's one step ahead of everybody, and when it comes to hip-hop, culture and art, you want to be that signature guy. #Quote by Carmelo Anthony
Art quotes by Erwin Raphael McManus
#109. The only art we can create is that which authentically reflects who we are. Our soul is the material for all we create. Thus, to nurture the artisan soul, essence is far more important than talent. #Quote by Erwin Raphael McManus
Art quotes by Stephen King
#110. As with all other aspects of the narrative art, you will improve with practice, but practice will never make you perfect. Why should it? What fun would that be? #Quote by Stephen King
Art quotes by Roseanne Barr
#111. I loved comedy all my life. I think it's a real powerful art form. #Quote by Roseanne Barr
Art quotes by Gerhard Richter
#112. To me, grey is the welcome and only possible equivalent for indifference, noncommitment, absence of opinion, absence of shape. But grey, like formlessness and the rest, can be real only as an idea, and so all I can do is create a colour nuance that means grey but is not it. The painting is then a mixture of grey as a fiction and grey as a visible, designated area of colour. #Quote by Gerhard Richter
Art quotes by Rick Riordan
#113. I think the more you understand myths, the more you understand the roots of our culture and the more things will resonate. Do you have to know them? No, but certainly it is nice to recognise how deeply these things are embedded in our literature, our art. #Quote by Rick Riordan
Art quotes by Neil Gaiman
#114. Doing fine, thank you, I would say, never knowing how to talk about what I do. If I could talk about it, I would not have to do it. I make art, sometimes I make true art, and sometimes it fills the empty places in my heart. Some of them. Not all. #Quote by Neil Gaiman
Art quotes by Marilyn Ferguson
#115. Many artists have said that when life itself becomes fully conscious, art as we know it will vanish. #Quote by Marilyn Ferguson
Art quotes by Mark Ronson
#116. DJing is an art that I have the utmost respect for, and I've been practising it since I was 17 years old. Doing Tom Cruise wedding-type things becomes the focal point of every interview, and you realize that you have to cut it out if you don't want to be answering questions about that. #Quote by Mark Ronson
Art quotes by Michele Jennae
#117. On the great canvas of time
We all create our own masterpiece.
Choreographing our steps across minutes and hours
Dancing over the days
Painting pictures over months and
Writing our stories on the years.
Singing our songs that echo across eons.
We are all a thread in the talent tapestry.
A snapshot in the cosmic, collective collage. #Quote by Michele Jennae
Art quotes by Dorothy Neville-Rolfe
#118. The real art of conversation is not only to say the right thing at the right place, but to leave unsaid the wrong thing at the most tempting moment. #Quote by Dorothy Neville-Rolfe
Art quotes by Jawaharlal Nehru
#119. Our lives are encumbered with the dead wood of this past; all that is dead and has served its purpose has to go. But that does not mean a break with, or a forgetting of, the vital and life-giving in that past. We can never forget the ideals that have moved our race, the dreams of the Indian people through the ages, the wisdom of the ancients, the buoyant energy and love of life and nature of our forefathers, their spirit of curiosity and mental adventure, the daring of their thought, their splendid achievements in literature, art and culture, their love of truth and beauty and freedom, the basic values that they set up, their understanding of life's mysterious ways, their toleration of other ways than theirs, their capacity to absorb other peoples and their cultural accomplishments, to synthesize them and develop a varied and mixed culture; nor can we forget the myriad experiences which have built up our ancient race and lie embedded in our sub-conscious minds. We will never forget them or cease to take pride in that noble heritage of ours. If India forgets them she will no longer remain India and much that has made her our joy and pride will cease to be. #Quote by Jawaharlal Nehru
Art quotes by Kathryn Bigelow
#120. I began to exercise a lot of cinematic muscle with the precepts I had learned in the New York art world. Film was intriguing. I began to think of art as elitist; film was not. #Quote by Kathryn Bigelow
Art quotes by Philippe Petit
#121. Everybody wanted me to be rich and famous on my art. And I said no to all the commercials and all the seedy offers. #Quote by Philippe Petit
Art quotes by Kathryn Hahn
#122. I got a liberal arts education just because I felt like I should to keep my parents happy, but it was for them. If it was up to me, I would've just moved to New York. #Quote by Kathryn Hahn
Art quotes by Babu Rajan
#123. Music is an art, if not a part,
You are just another stubborn sort ... #Quote by Babu Rajan
Art quotes by Armand Trousseau
#124. Every science touches art at some points - every art has its scientific side; the worst man of science is he who is never an artist, and the worst artist is he who is never a man of science. #Quote by Armand Trousseau
Art quotes by Andrew Wyeth
#125. I have a good friend, Rudolf Serkin, the pianist, a very sensitive man. I was talking to him one day backstage after a concert and I told him that I thought he had played particularly sensitively that day. I said, "You know, many pianists are brilliant, they strike the keys so well, but somehow you are different." "Ah," he said, "I don't think you should ever strike a key. You should pull the keys with your fingers." #Quote by Andrew Wyeth
Art quotes by Mehmet Murat Ildan
#126. Politics is the art of anesthesia. #Quote by Mehmet Murat Ildan
Art quotes by Robert A. Heinlein
#127. Abstract design is all right - for wallpaper or linoleum. But art is the process of evoking pity or terror, which is not abstract at all but very human. #Quote by Robert A. Heinlein
Art quotes by Nick Cave
#128. At some point you start seeing the difference between what you really want, and what is your priority order. I feel that today I know what I want. That's the problem with perspective, as well as focus and concentration. #Quote by Nick Cave
Art quotes by Benjamin Franklin
#129. Here in France, you must practice the art of accomplishing much while appearing to accomplish little. (in the John Adams miniseries on HBO) #Quote by Benjamin Franklin
Art quotes by Akemi Dawn Bowman
#130. I feel like I have the world, and even though Prizm isn't in it, Hiroshi is. His family is. His art is. He's filling a void I never knew was there, with his stories and his family and his paintings and the kindness he never seems to run out of. #Quote by Akemi Dawn Bowman
Art quotes by Vincent Van Gogh
#131. Life is too short to do the whole. #Quote by Vincent Van Gogh
Art quotes by Robert Hughes
#132. One gets tired of the role critics are supposed to have in this culture: It's like being the piano player in a whorehouse; you don't have any control over the action going on upstairs. #Quote by Robert Hughes
Art quotes by Aaron Denius Garcia
#133. The biggest and first obstacle any artist faces is not believing they can do something. You have the talent. Just believe you are capable of doing it, because you are. Writing anything, for anyone, regardless of expertise, is like crossing the Atlantic in a canoe. What you are doing is saying "I don't know how to row". Start rowing, you will get there. Just know it will take time and perseverance, but you will get there! #Quote by Aaron Denius Garcia
Art quotes by Unknown
#134. We ding to music, to poems, to quotes, to writing, to art because we desperately do not want to be alone. We want to know we aren't going crazy and someone else out there knows exactly how you're feeling. We want someone to explain the things we can't. #Quote by Unknown
Art quotes by Katherine Anne Porter
#135. Life comes first, an art not rooted in human experience is not worth a damn, but different kinds of minds have different kinds of experience, and all I ask of any man is validity; and there should be place for every type and kind of mind. #Quote by Katherine Anne Porter
Art quotes by Antony Gormley
#136. Making beautiful things for everyday use is a wonderful thing to do - making life flow more easily - but art confronts life, allowing it to stop and perhaps change direction - they are completely different. #Quote by Antony Gormley
Art quotes by Damien Hirst
#137. I always feel like the art's there and I just see it, so it's not really a lot of work. #Quote by Damien Hirst
Art quotes by Eula Biss
#138. Art-making was part of my daily life from a very young age, and I still love that kind of everyday art-making. #Quote by Eula Biss

#139. The future art historians are going to be software guys who are going to go into the depths of the code to find out what was changed hundreds of years before. #Quote by Bill Viola
Art quotes by Michael Craig-Martin
#140. I have never understood, for instance, why some people see contemporary art as divided between 'painting' and 'conceptual art', as though this represented a genuine division. #Quote by Michael Craig-Martin
Art quotes by Mark Twain
#141. I can always tell which is the front end of a horse, but beyond that, my art is not above the ordinary. #Quote by Mark Twain
Art quotes by Alice Hoffman
#142. Do people choose the art that inspires them - do they think it over, decide they might prefer the fabulous to the real? For me, it was those early readings of fairy tales that made me who I was as a reader and, later on, as a storyteller. #Quote by Alice Hoffman
Art quotes by Ai Weiwei
#143. I think art certainly is the vehicle for us to develop any new ideas, to be creative, to extend our imagination, to change the current conditions. #Quote by Ai Weiwei

#145. We all know that Beauty grows to love the Beast. She grows to love him, despite what her family might think for his charm and education, his knowledge of art and his sensitive heart. #Quote by E. Lockhart
Art quotes by Emile Zola
#146. Art for me ... is a negation of society, an affirmation of the individual, outside of all the rules and all the demands of society. #Quote by Emile Zola
Art quotes by Somer Brodribb
#147. The assertion that only sex is power and the arrogation of creativity to the masculine sex and the rendering of all creativity as sexual - this is patriarchal aesthetics. Patriarchal passion sees violent sex as the essential creative act, even aesthetically, through a sort of metaphysical transubstantiation. This is their romantic belief that sex with the Master can produce the artistic spirit in the student. Male creativity is thus born in another, her work is given depth through the violent transgression of her boundaries. #Quote by Somer Brodribb
Art quotes by Krista Tippett
#148. The mystery and art of living are as grand as the sweep of a lifetime and the lifetime of a species. And they are as close as beginning, quietly, to mine whatever grace and beauty, whatever healing and attentiveness, are possible in this moment and the next and the next one after that. #Quote by Krista Tippett
Art quotes by Felix Gonzalez-Torres
#149. Above all else, it is about leaving a mark that I existed: I was here. I was hungry. I was defeated. I was happy. I was sad. I was in love. I was afraid. I was hopeful. I had an idea and I had a good purpose and that's why I made works of art. #Quote by Felix Gonzalez-Torres
Art quotes by Barbara Kingsolver
#150. If we can't, as artists, improve on real life, we should put down our pencils and go bake bread. #Quote by Barbara Kingsolver
Art quotes by Owen Gleiberman
#151. Josh Radnor is that rare thing: a writer-director who thinks like an actor but still knows how to create a comedy with shape and vision. Liberal Arts is the best movie about college I've seen since I don't know what ... Dryly affectionate and super-sharp. Elizabeth Olsen is every inch a star. #Quote by Owen Gleiberman
Art quotes by Arthur Schopenhauer
#152. You must treat a work of art like a great man: stand before it and wait patiently till it deigns to speak. #Quote by Arthur Schopenhauer
Art quotes by Paul Simon
#153. Facts can be turned into art if one is artful enough. #Quote by Paul Simon
Art quotes by Giuseppe Verdi
#154. I adore art ... when I am alone with my notes, my heart pounds and the tears stream from my eyes, and my emotion and my joys are too much to bear. #Quote by Giuseppe Verdi
Art quotes by Ralph Waldo Emerson
#155. Whoso would be a man must be a nonconformist. #Quote by Ralph Waldo Emerson

Art quotes by Frederick Lenz
#158. Zen and Buddhism have produced martial arts, because of the Buddhist injunction against weapons. #Quote by Frederick Lenz
Art quotes by Ron Brackin
#159. There's no such thing as good art or bad art. Art is popular or unpopular. What is banned in Boston may be bid on at Christie's. #Quote by Ron Brackin
Art quotes by Mark Twain
#160. It is a gratification to me to know that I am ignorant of art ... Because people who understand art find nothing in pictures but blemishes ... #Quote by Mark Twain
Art quotes by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart
#161. The music is not in the notes, but in the silence between. #Quote by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart
Art quotes by Jimi Hendrix
#162. Definitely, and it's getting more spiritual. Pretty soon I believe people will have to rely on music to get some kind of peace of mind, or satisfaction, or direction, actually. More so than politics, the big ego scene. You know it's an art of words ... Meaning nothing. Therefore you will have to get an earthier substance, like music or the arts. #Quote by Jimi Hendrix
Art quotes by John Millington Synge
#163. Every article on these islands has an almost personal character, which gives this simple life, where all art is unknown, something of the artistic beauty of medieval life. #Quote by John Millington Synge
Art quotes by Niccolo Machiavelli
#164. Therefore, a prudent ruler ought not to keep faith when by so doing it would be against his interest, and when the reasons which made him bind himself no longer exist. If men were all good, this precept would not be a good one; but as they are bad, and would not observe their faith with you, so you are not bound to keep faith with them. #Quote by Niccolo Machiavelli
Art quotes by Asrie Budiasriati
#165. The art of reading, it occupies your mind no matter at any situation or mood you're in..bringing you to completely different world, the enchanting world of the characters..giving you the best feeling after reading it..the art of writing, it shows who you are, what are your real passions, what you've been through..inviting other people to see and experience your own world..hoping they have the best feeling that you have when writing it. As much as the feeling you always have when you read the books you've read before.. #Quote by Asrie Budiasriati
Art quotes by Jamie Muir
#166. Allan had come down wanting to do some sort of crucial music and I'd been involved in so-called Art Music and wanted to explore other areas - we were approaching it in some quite tongue-in-cheek ways and we had a lot of fun - we spent more time laughing than playing music. #Quote by Jamie Muir
Art quotes by Roberto Bolano
#167. God and chance belonged to art, eternity and labyrinths to science. #Quote by Roberto Bolano
Art quotes by Thomas Mann
#168. Even in a personal sense, after all, art is an intensified life. By art one is more deeply satisfied and more rapidly used up. It engraves on the countenance of its servant the traces of imaginary and intellectual adventures, and even if he has outwardly existed in cloistral tranquility, it leads in the long term to overfastidiousness, over-refinement, nervous fatigue and overstimulation, such as can seldom result from a life of the most extravagant passions and pleasures. #Quote by Thomas Mann
Art quotes by Abraham Lincoln
#169. The highest art is always the most religious, and the greatest artist is always a devout person. #Quote by Abraham Lincoln
Art quotes by Steve Maraboli
#170. The art of letting go is simply about personal empowerment. Realizing what you're in charge of, realizing what you control, and more importantly, what you don't control. #Quote by Steve Maraboli
Art quotes by Issey Miyake
#171. A great thing happening now in art is that artists are using the figure, the body, clothing, life. #Quote by Issey Miyake

#172. All art is an expression and extension of ourselves.. Art finds its deepest value when it is the authentic expression of a deep human experience. #Quote by Erwin Raphael McManus

Art quotes by Sara Genn
#174. Art is a perfectly complete cause. #Quote by Sara Genn

#175. Picasso had a saying - 'good artists copy, great artists steal' - and we have always been shameless about stealing great ideas. #Quote by Walter Isaacson
Art quotes by Kanye West
#176. Creative output, you know, is just pain. I'm going to be cliche for a minute and say that great art comes from pain. #Quote by Kanye West
Art quotes by Peter Gabriel
#177. Having lots of people talking highly of you and respecting your art and your work, this is one of the best feelings that you can have. #Quote by Peter Gabriel
Art quotes by Mel Bochner
#178. In 1967 there was no place for photography in a contemporary art gallery. It was almost impossible to get an art dealer to look at, let alone exhibit, anything photographic. #Quote by Mel Bochner
Art quotes by Hank Bracker
#179. Weston, having been born in Chicago, was raised with typical, well-grounded, mid-western values. On his 16th birthday, his father gave him a Kodak camera with which he started what would become his lifetime vocation. During the summer of 1908, Weston met Flora May Chandler, a schoolteacher who was seven years older than he was. The following year the couple married and in time they had four sons.
Weston and his family moved to Southern California and opened a portrait studio on Brand Boulevard, in the artsy section of Glendale, California, called Tropico. His artistic skills soon became apparent and he became well known for his portraits of famous people, such as Carl Sandburg and Max Eastman. In the autumn of 1913, hearing of his work, Margrethe Mather, a photographer from Los Angeles, came to his studio, where Weston asked her to be his studio assistant. It didn't take long before the two developed a passionate, intimate relationship. Both Weston and Mather became active in the growing bohemian cultural scene in Los Angeles. She was extremely outgoing and artistic in a most flamboyant way. Her bohemian sexual values were new to Weston's conventional thinking, but Mather excited him and presented him with a new outlook that he found enticing. Mather was beautiful, and being bisexual and having been a high-class prostitute, was delightfully worldly. Mather's uninhibited lifestyle became irresistible to Weston and her photography took him into a new and exciting art form. #Quote by Hank Bracker
Art quotes by Eugenio Montale
#180. Narrative art, the novel, from Murasaki to Proust, has produced great works of poetry. #Quote by Eugenio Montale
Art quotes by Willie Nelson
#181. A lot of country music is sad. I think most art comes out of poverty and hard times. It applies to music. Three chords and the truth - that's what a country song is. There is a lot of heartache in the world. #Quote by Willie Nelson
Art quotes by Pauly Shore
#182. Find something that you want to do when you're 60. Find your passion. Your passion, your work, whatever it is that you want to do. Find something that you would do, even if you didn't get paid. Whether it's an art or whether is something that you're passionate about. #Quote by Pauly Shore
Art quotes by John Owen
#183. Reader, if thou intendest to go any farther, I would entreat thee to stay here a little. If thou art, as many in this pretending age, a sign or title gazer, and comest into books as Cato into the theatre, to go out again, - thou hast had thy entertainment; farewell! #Quote by John Owen
Art quotes by Jonathan Swift
#184. In oratory the greatest art is to hide art. #Quote by Jonathan Swift
Art quotes by Stefan Sagmeister
#185. You can have an art experience in front of a Rembrandt ... or in front of a piece of graphic design. #Quote by Stefan Sagmeister
Art quotes by Frank Iero
#186. I feel like you have to make art because you have to make it. But the end result of it- that last stage- you have to show it to somebody else to hopefully get a rise or reaction out of them- [to see] if it'll affect someone else. #Quote by Frank Iero
Art quotes by Robert Rauschenberg
#187. Curiosity is the main energy... #Quote by Robert Rauschenberg
Art quotes by Norah Wilson
#188. He pulled her into the alley between the restaurant and the art gallery next door, pushed her up against the cool brick of the building and kissed her.
It was not a searching, tentative kiss. It was urgent and fiercely demanding, as were the hands that skimmed down her shoulders to her hips. #Quote by Norah Wilson
Art quotes by Marty Rubin
#189. The forms art takes keep changing, but the themes remain the same. #Quote by Marty Rubin
Art quotes by Krista Tippett
#190. The Internet - its beauty is that it's a self-perfecting organism, right? But as long as it's an ad-supported medium, the motive will be to perfect commercial interest, to perfect the art of the listicle, the endless slideshow, the infinitely paginated oracle, and not to perfect the human spirit of the reader or the writer. You've #Quote by Krista Tippett
Art quotes by Mike Huckabee
#191. Government shouldn't try to dictate what art looks like or what it portrays. Last thing we want is government screwing it up, which is what they would do. #Quote by Mike Huckabee
Art quotes by Sara Teasdale
#192. Less than the cloud to the wind,
Less than the foam to the sea,
Less than the rose to the storm
Am I to thee.

More than the star to the night,
More than the rain to the tree,
More than heaven to earth
Art thou to me. #Quote by Sara Teasdale
Art quotes by Felicia Day
#193. I love crafting. Knitting, decoupage, scrapbooking, any "lady-ish" art form, I'm a fan. For about six months each. Then I shove all the supplies in a closet, alongside the skeletons of long dead New Year's resolutions, like saber fencing, playing the ukulele, and Japanese brush painting. #Quote by Felicia Day
Art quotes by Michael Gungor
#194. Not every artist has to make a living making art. Millions of people who play guitar would do well to keep their day jobs. Plenty of people make incredible art "on the side". William Faulkner wasn't any less of an artist for writing As I lay Dying on the back of a wheelbarrow during breaks in his job shoveling coal for the electric company. #Quote by Michael Gungor
Art quotes by Fernando Pessoa
#195. We may know that the work we continue to put off doing will be bad. Worse, however, is the work we never do. A work that's finished is at least finished. It may be poor, but it exists, like the miserable plant in the lone flowerpot of my neighbour who's crippled. That plant is her happiness, and sometimes it's even mine. What I write, bad as it is, may provide some hurt or sad soul a few moments of distraction from something worse. That's enough for me, or it isn't enough, but it serves some purpose, and so it is with all of life. #Quote by Fernando Pessoa
Art quotes by Ninette De Valois
#196. Classical ballet will never die. #Quote by Ninette De Valois
Art quotes by Lawrence Weiner
#197. As nice as some of the booths are, it's not the same thing. It's a pity for young artists, because one of the things that a younger artist can look forward to is an emerging dealer who has a space that they can take over and build whatever will suit whatever aesthetic they find themselves in. In an art fair, you turn yourself into an object. #Quote by Lawrence Weiner
Art quotes by Twyla Tharp
#198. I'm not one who divides music, dance or art into various categories. Either something works, or it doesn't. #Quote by Twyla Tharp
Art quotes by Christian Wiman
#199. I suppose I do believe that the greatest art consoles a wound that it creates, that art can give you the capacity to endure and respond to the pain it forces you to feel. Psychological pain, I mean. #Quote by Christian Wiman
Art quotes by Neil LaBute
#200. I have a healthy view of what one can do with art. #Quote by Neil LaBute
